... but I can live with it and have no problem with it, it's actually kind of unique.
-Zero dead pixels (third NS)
-No screen crease at top (all six prior NS's)
-No crackly speaker (second NS)
-No touchscreen issues (first, fourth NS)
-No polarization issues (fifth NS)
-No vibration issues (sixth NS)
-No battery door imperfections (plastic bubble)(sixth NS)
Now take a look at this... I don't mind it at all, but why are these manufacturing defects here? Why would this see the light of day, I mean, LOOK AT IT.

I guess it was the machine, no way of really knowing. Yeah bro, SEVEN of them to finally get it right. They all had legitimate issues... I think my town got a bad batch I swear...
Wow, this implies that Samsung really rushed with this phone and skipped QA. I got extremely lucky I guess as I asked a friend in California to ship it to Vancouver. I don't have any of the above listed issues.
However, my volume button seems a little loose and rattles a bit. How about you?

A tiny bit but it's very minuscule. I definitely agree that Samsung did rush these devices out... Maybe there will be a second batch with all the defects worked out. Who knows, like I said before, the two 'snags', if you will, do not bother me, for everything else on this device is perfect.
You know what else is stupid? This is technically my eighth NS, because when I got my exchange unit (before this one), the plastic was all messed but and there was a bunch of dust, and I peel the screen plastic off and there was a fairly decent scratch on the bottom of the screen and a knick on the top bezel... I walked back in and was like, "Dude look at this, is this a new phone or not?" haha. It sucked. Eh... bleh.
I have a rattled volume rocker, its not really a huge complaint as I know the volume rockers by Samsung are always like this, never very solid. If you shake the phone you don't hear it, that's all that matters.

Im on my 6th ns. The 6th one is the best one ive gotten the only issue is the crease at the top which is on every single ns ive seen. I even looked thru every one two best buys near me had an they all had that crease so ill live with it.
on my fifth here from carphonewarehouse ( nottingham )..
1st - back button responding bad, battery die too quick
2nd - dead pixel, back button responding bad, battery die too quick, phone rebooted on it's own, phone crashed... had to pull out battery, when charging after shutdown of android... phone would not turn on after fully charged... had to take out battery, battery over heating
3rd - touch screen was working on it's own... meaning I wasn't touching the screen but things were happening
4th - back button responding bad
5th - battery dying to quickly but asked if I could swap the battery and they were fine with it...
I spoke to the same guy through the entire time... since the first NS... I asked for him ... when I went back to the store with the 2nd, he said to me "I won't do the exchange until your happy with one" which I said "cool"... there I am at the store with the 3rd, 4th and 5th for the next 3 hours or so
so yeah my fifth here and happy with it now...
I have the screen crease but little and it seems to be common thing amongst the NS's and it doesn't bother not affect my phone in anyway ( excluding appearance at certain angles which I'm not at the majority of the time )
I'm on my third and it finally seems OK.

LOL My thoughts exactly . It's why I didn't bother replying to him/her
Often when a phone is defective, it's from a batch of phones that are defective. And since they don't shuffle the deck, as it were, before sending them out, if you get one bad phone from Location A, the chances are significantly increased that any replacement you get from that same location will also be defective until they (and potentially their warehouse) run out and get an entirely new batch to start selling. It's extremely frustrating if you find yourself caught in this situation, and if you get two or three lemons in a row that's a pretty good sign there's a problem with the whole lot. In that case it's often not a bad idea, if feasible, to just do a return and try elsewhere, or wait a month and go back. Of course, some people are just really, really unlucky. >.>
Both NS I bought on release day were just fine.

No way, the plastic was still on it. I believe it to be a manufacturing defect. A drop would have created a different mark.
Got mine a few day after release and zero issues to report.

That is definitely something weird!
Care to explain polarization, vibration, and battery door plastic bubble issues? I've never heard of these.
I'm on my 2nd NS, whereas my first had back button issues. I've checked the manufacturing date and 1st one was made on 12/18 while the 2nd was made 12/19.
My 2nd one still has some issues such as the infamous screen crease (I don't care really), loose volume rocker, and purple tint on grays at low brightness. I figured I don't want to exchange again and risk the chance that I might get a unit with even more problems.
So the crease is normal? Was gonna take it back..

Ok, so i picked up the Nexus S early today, and well I'm in LOVE with the dam phone. BUT i've been through 2 Nexus S's already: 1 because of a dead pixel right dead center of the screen, and the other because of real bad touch screen issues. The touch screen works, but it would become unresponsive frequently and randomly. It works fine then randomly stops responding to input. Took it back and got another 1; same touchscreen issues however not half as bad as the second nexus but still there. I didn't bother replacing for another as the store was about to close and didn't wanna bother but I will go back on sunday if the issues don't go away. Pressing the hardware keys seems to always fix the stalling issue so maybe it's software? idk but it's VERY annoying -_- Has anyone on here experienced these unfortunate issues?? Sound off below!
How did you even get a replacement one? I stood in line, was the fourth person at my best buy and almost didn't get one. I was the last person. They had a total of 4 phones. Every BB in my area for that matter (orange county, ca). I have a ring shaped "watermark" in my screen and I need to get it replaced. Other than that I love this thing. The plastic is not as scratch prone as the vibrant by the way. Also, crazy that this phone was literally manufactured one week ago and got shipped to best buy. That's a crazy turn over time. No wonder they only had 4 at launch.
My screen seems to sometimes not respond very well either, but it doesnt bother me enoigh to exchange.

Or if you got the Black Tie protection you can go in after 30 days, plus it covers accidental handling damage. SOLD.
Is the unresponsiveness caused by lag, like, if you press an icon, does it launch moments later? Because this is a problem that plagues the Vibrant. Gingerbread not living up to what it says it is?
Not sure which would be worse... an issue with Gingerbread lag or with the touch screen not registering.

BB's that don't normally carry and sell Tmobile are limited to 4 phones (my understanding) BB's like the one I went to in my area which sell tmobile had about 80 in stock which they didn't even sell thru half my guess. I was real cool with the staff they just exchanged no problem

NO this isn't lag in gingerbread lol.. This phone FLIESSSS out of the box. its the touchscreen. It becomes unresponsive when i tap anything or swipe. I barely have that issue in this phone than on the last one, but when it happens it's extremely annoying.
same issue here. i can't even unlock the screen now.
My NS is easily the most responsive Android phone I've ever used. Sucks you guys got duds. Luckily if something happens, apparently no one bought them here...
This is also sometimes happen on my HTC Desire. If it does not happen so often, then I think it is OK.
I also found that our finger might contribute with this problem. Too dry or too cold, for example. When that happen, I rub my finger and it works.

well, being as this never happened to me on either of the 2 vibrants and nexus one I owned prior to this phone, it tends to really bug the hell out of me.

My experience so far..
Very disappointed in my experience with the Canadian Desire HD, I don't know what HTC are thinking seriously..here are the issues I had between 3 devices... dead pixels on the first two, third one has a misaligned lcd with the housing and the front speaker is tilted a bit as well, camera ring and lense became loose on the second day.. the volume rocker on the side is flushed, also experiencing crackling during calls every 10 seconds or so. Also the usb port in the bottom is tilted left.. please people check your phone as this is ridiculous.. other problems like flush power button, blurry camera photos on the sides, and dust under screen. Also speaker is a huge let down.. not the loudness it is loud enough but is just bad quality sound ( tin like with no depth mid base etc.) I came from and x10 and did not have a single issue with anything like the above. This is really unacceptable ... I wonder how many devices have any of this issues. Or is it just me that is really unlucky and got 3 faulty devices..
Just a little update - returned the phone to the store and the lady took out 2 more, checked both...both with dead pixels she took out another 2 first one camera lens again moving checked the last one they had and it was perfect!!! No moving lens no dead pixel, screen was aligned properly so i got it and left to go home, on the way i stopped at Tim Hortons to get a coffee and while waiting at the drive through i picked up the phone and what do i see.....a small lint behind the lcd with a few specs of dust..whiped the screen a few times checked again, double checked and triple checked and i couldnt believe it i was furious and the lint was visible on picures and everything went back to the store and got a full refund. Now i will give it a last chance at a different store in a close by city hopefully they got a better batch and if it still has problems i will give up and wait for the Arc to come out. So mad , i cant believe this not one not two but like 5-6 devices all with some kind of problem...
Update - i got another one from a city nearby so far its all good none of the problems i mentioned. Just waiting for the morning to see the screen under sunlight but it looks good now. I wonder if the problem with the dust is when they sealed the phone they sealded with the dust in between or is it just not sealed properly and the dust can get in at any time?? I hope it is sealed properly..dont want to find dust after the 14 day return period lol. Is there anyone on here that has had the device for longer period or a previous HTC and didnt have dust under the screen?
Update - this one seems to be good, checked under sunlight and everything is ok, all the other phones i mentioned above were from the same store so maybe they got a really bad batch.

I have absolutely no problems with mine, been just awesome.
Same with me, no problems or whatsoever. Just get a replacement, might be a faulty batch if you ask me. Tell them to give you the newest one.
I agree with getting a replacement. I've seen the front speaker housing misalignment on someone elses phone and it does look rather unattractive.
Nothing to complain about my dhd......loving it!!!

The only thing that's actually annoying me about my DHD is the frame around the display. It's a bit higher than the display iteslf and everytime you swype beyond the edges of the device you can feel the improper processing.
But I learned to live with that *sigh*.
Apart from that everything is fine with my device!

No!! That's not a fault. It was designed like that because Desire HD has turn to mute. So they have raised it to prevent any damages caused to the screen when the phone is turned.

the top right of my screen seems to be a tiny bit out compared tot he rest of the sreec. I only noticed it one day when i was playing a game and touched the screen, could kinda feel it move a tiny little bit.
I got mine from telus and it works well, and as for the problem with the edges, I have an otterbox defender case on it so its even more pronounced.

That's a feature of the phone, it protects the screen from possible scratches when placed faced down on a table or desk to silence it as part of sense.
.... Had they not read about it here....
I know I wouldn't have.... It's so insignificant, it's hilarious how people are getting upset over it....
On the iPhone4 "no reception if you hold it wrong" scale, it's not even registering.....
Its actually pretty easy to spot and noticeable. All you have to do is look on each side to notice the left side is raised and out of the bezel. Some cases are more severe. Others extremely minor. Even though its minor. It could cause an issue down the line with it raising up.

You'd have noticed it because it gets worse over time. I got two 16gb N7's last week and didn't notice the screen lift until the "change wallpaper" UI popped up a few times when I was just holding it. I looked closer and saw that only the center few inches on the left side were above the bezel. Pushing in on it you could see the screen go down and pop back and it would act on the screen like a finger hold on that side.
I checked the second one I was setting up for my mother and I could see the exact same behavior and issue in just the middle couple inches.
I decided that I would give it a week on mine and see how it reacted before I decided to RMA or not. The one I used got steadily worse over the week. by the end of the week it was making a noticeable creaking sound when gripping it from the left and eventually a popping noise. The raise has extended to almost the entire left side bezel. I called for an RMA and when I was packing them up I took out the one that hadn't been used and you could literally barely see the issue, but if it'd been used I'm sure it would have gotten worse.
I don't know how anyone calls this a non-issue. It's a $250 piece of electronics you're buying brand new. It shouldn't be shoddy. I bought this based on the glowing reviews of the build quality. It's not there. I'm getting two new ones, and if they have even minimal screen lift they're going back for a refund and I'm waiting a few months until google gets this sorted.
I noticed mine before coming on here to see if others had the same issue.

I didn't notice it at first admittedly. I read it online whilst at work and thought "I'm glad I don't have that"... til I went home and realised I actually did!
I checked online again and true enough, I had the issue, which has gotten worse. It's now creaking every time I press on the screen in a certain area.
I ordered a replacement which had the same issue. Currently waiting for replacement #2. It's not so insignificant when you have the issue repeatedly with a device you've spent your hard-earned money on, believe me.
I noticed it right away, then did a quick search to find that others were having the same problem.
I think it would have been noticed by many as a result of the squishy feeling and/or clicking that results on the left side.

The phone has been out for most of us just little over a month and there have been many reports about front/rear glass cracking, so now I made this poll to see how many people actually have/had problems with their device.
Please note that this poll is only about hardware problems, so don't vote yes if you only had software related problems, thank you.
To be clear:
Vote yes: If you had glass cracking (with/without) a reason, flaps not closing properly, phone not being waterproof, etc
Vote no: If you had no problems, software related problems
Bump!
Don't forget to vote!
I voted yes due to a way too sensitive touchscreen - putting a screenprotector on however solves the problem, but I take it that it is the out of the box product we have to vote about...
(To the - right now 13 persons - who have voted no - does this also mean that you don't have the popping issue when pressing the screen? Or is this looked at as a feature...? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JrfMjiNB9E)
Nope. I've had nothing wrong with the phone, no "popping", no "glass breaking" even though I accidentally did drop it today.
Nothing. I'm convinced most of you are playing baseball with your phones, or just being extremely picky.
Not any problem at all. This phone lives up to its expectations but i also keep it protected with case though.
i had the phone for 3 weeks. i bought a magnetic charger and was using that. last week i went to take the charger off the phone and the whole magnetic charging "module" came out of the phone with the charger. it's currently back at sony for repair - i'm really hoping they just send me a new one though. that was a fun discovery. anyway, no problems with glass or anything like that in the time i had it, though.
Not a single problem so far.
Btw, good initiative!
However, I think that since only people with glass issues post that on the forum, it's not surprising that it looks as if it's a major problem.

Yeah, that's the main reason why I made this poll, due to so 'many' people reporting issues with their phones it might scare people off that intend to buy the phone.

Hmmm could there be a connection between the popping screens and the very sensitive screens? Mine has the popping and also a screen that sometimes during internet scrolling has a life of its own speedscrolling up to the top of homepages when lifting the finger from the screen - an issue I have never ever had before on any of my many previus phones...???

hello,
"Z3 Compact" bought the 28.09.2014. The phone is turned off itself in the middle of the day in my pocket. The battery level was approx. 75% => Black screen, not even light on the charger...:S
The Sony support told me to send them with charger and usb cable.
I am waiting for news... approx. 10 days...
NO issues so far... put a tempered glass screen protector on the phone pretty soon after buying it, but I never saw any screen popping or "life of its own" syndrom while I had the screen unprotected.
no issues so far , i had some bad experience with singapore firmware , but its all good now (using latest brazil firmware).
i did drop it a week ago , tempered glass cracked abit , phone also got abit of a spank on the top right corner, still water proof.
all good just no ****ing root
Sudden Death after two weeks.
Had this awesome phone since October 3rd. All fine and dandy till now, the vibration would work sometimes. It comes and goes but it's no biggie, I can live with it!
Gyroscope defect
Yes.
I had the phone for only 3 days and the phone suddenly stop rotating. I did a factory restore and even trying running the system test. Compass test tells me function is not available. Sony says it might be a hardware issue so I had to send it to Sony to get it fixed.
My mic has become strange. People say that I sound like I'm a mila away from it.
I noticed this after i used it for a few days, it happens RIGHT where it gets hot on the back, it sticks to something inside and then comes off, hence the click/sticky sound. This is ridiculous. Anyone else have this issue?

Same issue new 32 gb white just got it hours ago. Also it is taking 10 hours to charge... really?
Now I finally understand what everyone means by a clicking sound... I'm on a black 32,nothing at all like that. Bummer bro
That definitely sounds like a defect. Thank God mine doesn't make that sound.
I bet after it gets really hot it might be melting something structural in the back. I don't have the issue, but maybe I haven't warmed it up enough.

The mine doesn't make that sound
I noticed that mine made the same noise, but it sounds like some adhesive is trying to stick, but is not strong enough. That would also explain why the sound comes when letting go instead of when pressing the device. So I pressed the back firmly. Now the sound is gone and I think the flex has become smaller too (could be placebo)

I agree with Gormsen. Sounds like double sided tape that is just not sticking. The back seem super thin and that probably all that keeps it flat in the middle. I do have the flex but no noise yet...
It must be some adhesive melting when it gets hot, which causes it to unstick.. pretty pathetic.

Or, it could be that it's thoroughly pressed upon manufacturing. Pathetic? Nah, all products have some production errors.
The good thing is that we should be able to fix this, if we pull of the back cover, apply some stronger double sided tape and the put the back cover back.
We can do some hardware modifications, am I the only one who's excited about it?
Also with the extra space (due to the flexing) we will be able to fit a bigger battery, if one is made

Not placebo. Mine was very bad to begin with. Several places on the back could be pressed in with a light finger and under the camera I had that sticky click. I did as you and literally pressed the tablet together firmly at all places. During this process there were several clicks as if the whole thing settled properly. Result. Zero flex and it now feels totally solid all around the back. I'm totally happy with it now since I have no noticeable lightbleed and everything works as expected. Good times! ?

I noticed the sound when i unboxed it. Have tried to do so. But seems like my stick is not strong enough, and the sound remains. If this is really a stick issue. Then maybe try to heat it up and push the back hard to stick properly may solve the problem. Anyway I have initiated RMA so really dont want to fix it lol. fingercrossed to get a good device.
This isn't really anything new as my Nexus 7 was the same back in 2012. I gave it a good squeeze and its still creak free to this day. I did the same with my Nexus 9 and can confirm that I don't have any creaking, although mine didn't have that much creaking to begin with anyway.

I'm glad the op doesn't have the nexus 9 anymore.

I noticed this after i used it for a few days, it happens RIGHT where it gets hot on the back, it sticks to something inside and then comes off, hence the click/sticky sound. This is ridiculous. Anyone else have this issue?

On the phone with HTC, they tried to turn it into something I DAMAGED on the device, i wasn't having that. They shuffled me off to the tech support and there i demanded to speak to a supervisor. Finally I got an RMA and shipping instructions. Shipping this guy back tomorrow, so so so mad and disappointed at this device.

Yes the exact same thing happens here, I've not played any games or had the device become hot, just expect it was like it from the start. This is typical HTC build quality, reminds me very much of the HTC One X and it's plastic back, just all done a bit cheaply.
In the iFixIt pictures there doesn't appear to be any sticky pads in the location this is happening, so it is probably just sticking unintentionally to the smooth plastic of the stick on NFC antenna in that location. As the whole back cover seems to default to be floating away from the internal chassis by a couple of millimetres, again typical HTC lack of attention to detail, then the back is going to do this, become depressed and sometimes stick to pop out again making a noise.
I'll personally live with it, it is a bit annoying, and I'd expected better at this price point, but it doesn't affect the functionality.
Regards
Phil
Firm press between both hands is the fix. You will hear and feel it lock. There are back clips that are not seated. Mine is solid and click/creak free now.
