[Suggestion] Saparated ways - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I believe after NAND android is possible the developers should go on two ways.
1 just for European HD2
2 just for TMOUS HD2
if they want to build best roms they must focus on one phone.
to make everyone happy they stay always stay middle of the way.
Some for european hd2 some for TMOUS hd2
if they work on just one model i'm sure every hd2 owners who on both sides can use more sufficient, more fast and more useful roms.
This is what i'm thinking.

The only difference between the phones are the flash space. The roms themselves will still fit fine on either euro or tmo phones. Currently euro hd2s still have over 200mb nand space free after a flash. There are options for storage on sd like ext partitions or data.img on sd. Until roms exceed the capacity of the euro's nand, the distinction does not really need to be made let alone separate development.

1Gb ROM Major Plus for TmoUS HD2

Does anyone think the 1Gb ROM is a major advantage of the TMOUSHD2 over the Euro HD2? Isnt it possible WM 7 or other future OSs will require more than 512Mb?
Also, I've seen in threads and stickies here that any Tmobile US ROM will work with Euro HD2, my question is, what if the size of the ROM is larger than 512MB? How is it possible EVERY TMOUSHD2 ROM will work in a Euro?
I really hope someone can put me right...

[Q] Difference between HD2 t-mobile version and HD2 european version

I will be buying a HD2 soon and was wondering what the difference (if any) in performance between the 2?
And say if I wanted to dual boot android and wp7 if there would be any performance issues?
The difference with the frequency bands is not an issue for me.
tmous is easier to make a mistake and brick, and the regular hd2 has more range of available roms. other than that you shouldn't see any difference.

I thought that's the other way around. the TMOUS version has more roms and not so easy to brick.
to the OP, the band they used is different. the size is bigger on the TMOUS version. the rom size is twice as big as the international version.

regular hd2 can take any rom any radio, but the tmous hd2 hangs with non tmous roms, and dies permanently with non tmous radios.
There are very very few (half a dozen, maybe) roms that say specifically FOR tmous, and they are android roms that make use of the extra rom space rather than an sd card ext partition. these roms would still work on regular hd2, and most of them have two flavours, regular and tmous, with the difference being the use of sd card EXT.
On the flip side, there are loads of roms that say specifically NOT for tmous (winmo roms that don't have a tmous base)
And thats not counting the stock roms, there are dozens of stock roms, all the languages and networks and regions and such like, tmous cant touch any of them, except the three or four tmous specific ones, instant death if it tries.
summary, regular hd2 can use every radio and 99.5% of all roms, tmous can use 50% of radios, risks instant death if it touches the wrong radio, and can only use around 60% of the roms.
victory to the regular hd2 in my eyes hehe, not worth the hassle just for an extra 512 meg rom.

Hey Samsamuel I found your post very informative. I am not trying to say I do not believe you cause I very much do. But I was wondering if this is information you have learned through just your personal research and use of the HD2 or if you could post a link or links to some of this information. Cause I would really like to learn more about it being I have a TMOUS HD2. Any futher info on this would be highly appreciated.
Its all just from reading and being a natural tinkerer, and a keen interest in helping problem solve, plus reading everything, whether it seems like an interesting topic or not. come every day for a month, and read all the new threads, and you'll see there are about 10 main problems, and each time you answer it it gets a little more ingrained hehe,.
If i were to post any link it wouldnt be any particular thread it would be
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
start your search with hd2 and you wont go far wrong.
The info is all here, most of it several dozen times over,, its just a bit like looking for a needle in a needle-stack.

Questions for smart people

I want to buy an HD2. Maybe.
I have several questions.
1. I HATE APPS2SD!!! i'll never use it on a phone like the HD2. How does this limit my rom choices? I know some HUGE sense 3.0 roms won't fit. Is that an issue? are there any sense 3.0 roms that fit? (512mb version t9193)
2. I don't know how much the average user is affected by having only 512 vs 1024, so this is a similar question to the one above
3. does anyone see a reason for me NOT to buy the HD2. Is it dying? is Development slowing down? Money isn't an object, but i'm stingy. The only reason I'm considering the phone is for the great development.
4. What phones is the HD2 faster than? could it compete (running a sense rom) with a Desire HD? (less ram, worse snapdragon, I know, but what's the difference really?)
I might have more later. I hope some people actually read and respond to some (if not all) of these.
I'll thank you with the button
jcarrz1
I'll try and remember each of your questions but I might have to revisit when I'm by my comp.
1st I don't use apps2sd either, I do put some apps on SD that appmonster shows me to be ok to move. There are several sense 3 builds that fit but they use a partition of your SD to kind of "fit" the Rom in. Leo 512 for example will need a 1gb ext2/3/4 partitioned on your SD card. Also all sense 3 builds have a few glitches on the hd2, you can go on YouTube and see videos of what I am talking about. "i believe" if we get a new gingerbread kernal that's compatible that could fix the issue.
2nd I can't really comment since I have T-Mobile 1024.
Uh..3rd I can't see a single reason not to switch to the hd2. I almost feel its got like a type of cult following behind it and I don't see the development slowing down in the near future.
I'll have to check back later because its hard to remember all the questions.
4th this phone runs about the same as the desire. Yes I know it is a slight bit slower but it can run five different operating systems..that shows there is enough power to get the job done. I will say though if you posted this question in the evo section someone else will be telling you why to get an evo. It all comes down to what your looking for in a phone. If you want the newest best screen and speed then this ain't the phone for you, if you want something that's highly customizable then this is the perfect phone.

WHY IS a2sd SO COMMON?
why is it that a random gingerbread (aosp or cyanogen) rom had a2sd support? this is very unsettling. People shouldn't automatically have their roms use a2sd. it should be an option because it's so slow... 512 is plenty of room.
anyone have insight? on this or my OP?
thanks

[Q] Which version of HD2 shall I go for

Hi Friends I am going to purchase a used HTC HD2 so i need your help in choosing as in which version shall i buy the old htc hd2 or the tmobile version please help. I am from India
t-mobile version is the best
T-mobile offers 1GB of NAND (which is excellent !!!) .. but you need to be careful of what radio you flash, it is easily bricked by flashing an incorrect radio
So, yes, go for the T-mobile. (but be careful)
TMOUS ..............

No doubt HD2 T-Mous .... I own HD2 WWE and T-mous ...
Buy original T-mobile I had it from last 2 years no problem. Try to get original with windows mobile 6.5 unlocked. Do not be fascinated by Android or Windows 7 in HD2 as preinstalled because you can install them yourself when you get the phone. And you never know preinstalled android or W7 might have some bugs or tweaks required. good luck. And congrats because you are about to buy the most powerful phone in the world.
Thank you very very much
Thank you Thank you Thank you I am going to get the tmobile version in a few days however anyways to check if its a genuine tmobile any signs i can look for ?
Also I really appreciate you guys making an effort to reply as this was my first post in the hd2 world, and I am going to sell a 8 months old galaxy ace for the HD2 and your reviews have just concreted my decision hence cheers HD2 here I come
Hey.. b carefull!!
I appreciate your choice to buy HTC HD2, its amazing set
But be careful, some of the HTC HD2 sets have unresolvable hardware issue, that is they get overheated followed by freeze on mild to moderate usage, they work fine until their temp rises to 36~37 C, suddenly they freeze like that nothing will work, neither hardware keys, nor screen will respond, no other way to except pull out battery, wen u ll restart phone, it will vibrate 7 times and again will freeze, only way to let phone work again is to let it cool down for 5,7 minutes
So this sort of mobile set will be handicap especially in temperate climate of India, so i recommend you that when you examine your mobile, do anything like wifi downloading, net browsing, mobile call, video playback for at least 15, 20 mins and observe if this phenomena happen, if you find so, don't purchase such mobile set
Regards
Thanks a ton

Can anyone give the reason to go for T mobile HD2 other than 1 GB Rom in it..
I am getting HD2 EU version and was just curious why not other HD2
Will 1GB Nand makes any difference in flashing or any other activities or general working of the phone as such? .. obviously 1GB>512MB so ppl will obviously go for it, but just want to know will it make any difference
Bigger ROM space is very very useful & touchscreen on TMOUS is the revision 300 type.
If you can not get TMOUS then a 512mb version will do ok ...

I am getting 512 HD2 EU version only.. Can you tell the major difference btw 1024 vs 512 HD2...
Also what is this revision 300 type.. how is it different from 512 HD2 ?
Just curious..
revision screen has better build & not same supplier as 295 solder type & plug clip connector between LCD & digi.
You will find some 512 models have later type 300 screen & you can check this in bootloader.
As for RAM you will wish you had more but it is not a big problem.
Honestly? The end user will probably not notice the difference between the two The only thing that matters is how well the previous owner has taken care of the device!
If you still have doubts then ask yourself 2 things:
1. Are you going to be cooking your own ROMs?
2. Are you going to repair the phone yourself if it breaks?
If you can answer no to those questions then the best choice for you is the phone in the best condition - simple as that!
If you want to know the differences then the US version has a different digitizer that is more easy to chance if it breaks and then of course 1024 mb of NAND memory The latter might be a tempting point to choose the TMUS over the EU version but again you have to ask yourself if you are going to use the extra memory? Dont you use your memorycard? The only thing that comes to mind for me personally is that of bad sectors The more NAND you have the more bad sectors you can have but that is a small problem only... Go for the phone that is in best condition - period!

i'm surprised no one has mentioned the RADIO differences between the EU n TMOUS models.
my understanding is that if you require using 3G data, then the EU model is more friendly/compatible to the bands/frequencies used in most regions of the globe. the bands/frequencies supported by the TMOUS for 3G r more friendly with the TMOUS network.
someone please correct me if the above factor is incorrect!

Yep, that's what I had heard as well. Plus, I have the international version and can't connect to T-Mo's 3g.
TMobile 3G Network radio frequency - HSDPA 1700 / 2100
Other International 3G Network radio frequency - HSDPA 900 / 2100
One should have problem only with upload in Tmobile 3G frequency if he/she uses international version.. Am i right here?
Also is there any possibility that NAND roms size goes above 512 MB ? in that case how the international version handles it..
Radio difference is not a big issue, TMOUS works on GSM/Edge worldwide & 3G has worked fine for me in UK/Germany/Spain/Hong Kong/Singapore/Thailand on various networks ...
Good condition HD2 is most critical issue as posted above, I bought a TMOUS as cheap here new & come with 16gb SD plus 1GB RAM is a slight plus & they have the better screen as standard & later built units also have revision mainboard.
an wwe/eu hd2 does all the job that a tmous hd2 can !!
its just the rom difference ie 512mb vs the 1024mb in tmous !!
u'll mainly need the extra rom size while flashing the sense roms !!
sense roms are usually bigger is size and u'll require an ext3/4 partition on sd card for processing the dalvik cache !!
tmous hd2 doesnt require the ext3/4 partition as the extra 512mb is available on it !!
cyanogenmod, miui, wp7, wp7.5 and other os's !! work fine on both models !!
here is a comparison of both the devices !!
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2957&idPhone2=3228
you'll just find the difference in the extra nand memory !!
and i think ur from mumbai so device will be used in india !
in india, 2G bands :900 1800 and 3G : 2100
are the respective network frequencies !!
so both devices will have full network support !!
good luck !!
choose wisely ! !!

[POLL] Sense of Eclipse for T-Mobile HD2

Since last time I created poll attached to main dev thread I had to persuade forum admins to remove poll when no longer needed which took almost half a year, so I decided to create separate thread for each new poll I create...
So the first poll is about future of storage modes, basically I need to know if users with T-Mobile HD2 with 1GB NAND are using NAND-only mode or are using EXT partition.
Vote in poll and leave comments if you want to provide further feedback.
I don't want to poll my option 'coz it will obviously be biased
That said, I have always used some form of a2sd even before the DataOnEXT idea because the remaining space was not enough for all the apps I had, and I didn't want to be restricted on what I can install or not because of the space. Also, NAND bad blocks have always been on my mind - both my TMoUS HD2 have them - one has 7, the other 9
I hope this doesn´t mean you will abandon support for EU models
I just love your work guys :good:
Whenever I use a large Sense build I use only NAND. I tried using a2sd and d2sd but there was always something that made me hate it.
My opinion on Phoenix idea is that I would love to set my system partitions to max and never have to hook it up to a computer again since I don't get reliable service on clk I am stuck with MAGLDR as it is.

no I will not...but since I am planning quite big changes that start with DataOnEXT, I need to know what variants will I need to support, because, honestly, under certain circumstances it is really hard to support everything
