[Q] Difference between HD2 t-mobile version and HD2 european version - HD2 General

I will be buying a HD2 soon and was wondering what the difference (if any) in performance between the 2?
And say if I wanted to dual boot android and wp7 if there would be any performance issues?
The difference with the frequency bands is not an issue for me.

tmous is easier to make a mistake and brick, and the regular hd2 has more range of available roms. other than that you shouldn't see any difference.

I thought that's the other way around. the TMOUS version has more roms and not so easy to brick.
to the OP, the band they used is different. the size is bigger on the TMOUS version. the rom size is twice as big as the international version.

regular hd2 can take any rom any radio, but the tmous hd2 hangs with non tmous roms, and dies permanently with non tmous radios.
There are very very few (half a dozen, maybe) roms that say specifically FOR tmous, and they are android roms that make use of the extra rom space rather than an sd card ext partition. these roms would still work on regular hd2, and most of them have two flavours, regular and tmous, with the difference being the use of sd card EXT.
On the flip side, there are loads of roms that say specifically NOT for tmous (winmo roms that don't have a tmous base)
And thats not counting the stock roms, there are dozens of stock roms, all the languages and networks and regions and such like, tmous cant touch any of them, except the three or four tmous specific ones, instant death if it tries.
summary, regular hd2 can use every radio and 99.5% of all roms, tmous can use 50% of radios, risks instant death if it touches the wrong radio, and can only use around 60% of the roms.
victory to the regular hd2 in my eyes hehe, not worth the hassle just for an extra 512 meg rom.

Hey Samsamuel I found your post very informative. I am not trying to say I do not believe you cause I very much do. But I was wondering if this is information you have learned through just your personal research and use of the HD2 or if you could post a link or links to some of this information. Cause I would really like to learn more about it being I have a TMOUS HD2. Any futher info on this would be highly appreciated.

Its all just from reading and being a natural tinkerer, and a keen interest in helping problem solve, plus reading everything, whether it seems like an interesting topic or not. come every day for a month, and read all the new threads, and you'll see there are about 10 main problems, and each time you answer it it gets a little more ingrained hehe,.
If i were to post any link it wouldnt be any particular thread it would be
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
start your search with hd2 and you wont go far wrong.
The info is all here, most of it several dozen times over,, its just a bit like looking for a needle in a needle-stack.

Where is Energy Rom ?

Looking like NRG has dropped the ball on the TMOUS Version Rom, because i don`t see the thread anymore.
It is kind of good because his roms are getting too usual and bringing nothing new
Energy rom
I still like his rom though
I asked the same question. His rom can be found in the standard HD2 thread, he does have TMOUS specific version still. Maybe he isn't going to continue with that ??
As long as it is still TMOUS compatible it may not NEED to be in this forum but I think it might be better since the separation keeps things clearer (less chance of costly mistakes). However, while I enjoyed his ROMs on the Touch Pro2 I found that the focus seems to be entirely on modifying HTC Sense. The ROMs have become a bit more bug ridden as well. On the HD2 I couldn't even use the dialer as it disappeared constantly. It might be just as well that the ROM isn't listed :/
NRGZ is the man! Im on the latest NRGZ release and its been working almost perfectly for me so far.
He said recently that there will no longer be a TombileUS specific ROM anymore since the ONLY difference between it and his other HD2 ROMs are the tmobile apps, which can easily be installed via .cabs.
He's no longer making TMoUS-specific ROMs, but you can just install his standard HD2 ROMs and get whatever TMoUS CABs you need from here:

Questions about radio 2.07.51.27_2

Hey all,
I expect some people to say "USE SEARCH", but I have, I just haven't gotten a clear enough answer (what with ll the 2.0x SPL and radio versions and the don't use version before this or after this talk) that makes me feel comfortable I am not about to brick my $450 phone. I have two questions:
1) Can I flash radio 2.07.51.27_2 onto my TMOUS1024 HD2 which already has HSPL2 and Touch X-Treme and a 2.08.50 something radio?
2) Is the battery life from this 2.07 radio really any better as has been stated?
Thanks for any info.
if you flash any radio with ..51.. in the version number
YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE COMPLETELY. it will not power on, no bootloader, nothing.

That comment alone makes this thread worthy of Sticky-Status!
It's happened far too many times already to too many people who are unaware of this reality.
TMOUS and 51 series Radios do not mix.
Yes, that is HUGELY helpful. I have been flashing ROMs on a half dozen WinMo and Android devices for like 5 years (only 1 brick so far - DON'T flash WinMo devices from within a VM!!!) so I am by no means a rookie or ignorant but from what I'd read I would have thought that .51 radio was okay.
Anyone willing to help clarify what is and isn't compatible with TMOUS1024? The general ROM flash thread is unclear on this.
The most fundamental thing to understand is that flashing any radio with xx.51.xx in the series ID will brick your TMOUS HD2. Period.
what about the 50 series
what about flashing with one of the earlier radios within the 50 series rather than the 51 series? with my unlocked HD2 i could pretty much flash any radio version without issue. so reading this make believe that the TMOUS HD2 is different by means.

all hd2 except tmous have 448 meg ram with the extra 128 hidden by HTC (Why? probably so tmous would pay extra for an 'upgraded' phone, silly billies)
to access the hidden ram (forgetting tmous for now) requires a 2.1 tmous based rom AND a radio that supports the 576. (i.e a radio from one of the tmous test/stock roms, whi9ch all have .50. in the version.
the .50. radios support the 576 ram, and the 51's dont. This isn't a problem for the non tmous hd2's because the extra ram is hidden by the system, so if you flash a .51. radio it simply accepts there is only 448 meg ram, and doesnt look for any more.
BUT, flash a 51 radio on the tmous and there is an extra 128 meg of ram that isnt hidden, and that isn't being addressed, and this seems to throw the tmous into a fit and it simply wont come on, no bootloader, nothing.
I 'think' the lowest radio that supports the 576 is 2.06.50.04, but for safety i'd probably stay at higher versions if i were you. (cos i may be wrong!)

Thanks, this helped me understand, and now I know what to do. Unless I hear of miraculous battery life on another version, staying with 2.08.50 for now.

Some Conclusions

Dear all
It is my lunch break!! So I have some free time to post some conclusions I reach them after reading many threads in many forms regarding the HD2 t-mobile.
Whenever you looked, there were people says, DON’T do that it will break your device it will burn the motherboard, you will lose it forever it will died, etc..
For a moment, I am scared and changed my mind to get this device!!(I had an universal HD2 for about 3 months and sold it to get the t-mobile because of the RAM and ROM).
It is so simple, my understanding is as follows:
The MAIN/MAJOR problem is the radio, DON’T TRY TO INSTALL ANY RADIO contain the number 51, and/or STOCK HTC ROM for any language because usually the radio is included on that.
You can do the HSPL simply and you can flash it with any custom rom designed for HD2 (noting that there is some rom designed for t-mobile supports the additional/hidden RAM size ) and the rest will treat your device as a normal HD2 512 RAM. READ CAREFULLY IF THE ROM INCLUDED A RADIO.
For Android, you can install whatever you want, because they are depending on SD card and don’t use any windows/rom files.
There are my simple thoughts in this respect, if I am wrong in any part please correct me, because this what I am planning to do with my device, once its arrived (within a few days).
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH, I HOPE IT WOULD BE BETTER in the next time
Yes, you are correct. For the most part any ROM will work on the T-Mobile HD2 EXCEPT for official HTC or other carrier ROMs besides T-Mobile USA ones. And yes, flashing a radio with XX.XX.51.XX WILL brick your device and it will be unuseable. Just read the stickies and play it safe. If you don't feel comfortable with a step, DO NOT DO IT until you have either read enough to feel confident or asked someone. Hope that helps!

[Suggestion] Saparated ways

I believe after NAND android is possible the developers should go on two ways.
1 just for European HD2
2 just for TMOUS HD2
if they want to build best roms they must focus on one phone.
to make everyone happy they stay always stay middle of the way.
Some for european hd2 some for TMOUS hd2
if they work on just one model i'm sure every hd2 owners who on both sides can use more sufficient, more fast and more useful roms.
This is what i'm thinking.
The only difference between the phones are the flash space. The roms themselves will still fit fine on either euro or tmo phones. Currently euro hd2s still have over 200mb nand space free after a flash. There are options for storage on sd like ext partitions or data.img on sd. Until roms exceed the capacity of the euro's nand, the distinction does not really need to be made let alone separate development.

[Q] Experienced flasher but new to HD2 - need advice

A little background: I have been flashing other phones for over a year with no problems, so I normally can find my way around these things. The HD2, however, has proven a bit more confusing because of the tmous (mine) Vs international version. I have been doing a lot of research so far. Each day, however, I find reports of bricking (some unfounded, some terrifyingly real), I need some advice from my more seasoned fellow XDers.
Here is my scenario: I bought a T-Mo (US) HD2 to use as a tablet, mainly since I have a Sprint TP2 I intend to continue to use for the moment. This means that I am only using WIFI data. I have been using Android SD ROMs successfully, and they run smoothly. This is the extent of my progress so far.
Here is what I want to do: Flash WP7 and continue to use Android on SD. Should WP7 totally suck, I want to try NAND versions of Android not available on SD.
My concern is that some tools are appropriate for my handset, some are not. Of the former, some are not appropriate for WP7, some are not. I am not too worried about bricking the device since I'm not flashing WinMo ROMs on this one. However, I don't know if I HAVE to flash a radio as prescribed in many threads, since I'm only using WIFI. I have read about issues flashing wrong radios and screwing up a perfectly good device. Lastly, has anyone heard of a ROM for an HD2-as-tablet? I'm sure I'm not the only one needing this!
Your advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!
P.S. I am familiar with the super-awesome noob guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614, and found it very helpful. I'm just making sure I know what I need to know before I take the plunge.
TMOUS HD2 takes XX.XX.50 radios, Flashing a XX.XX.51 is a sure way to brick. however a brick does not mean the phone is trash there are a few guys on Ebay that can fix it using JTAG pretty cheap. Read the stickeys they are how I got started. The radio is the big thing though other than that this phone is really forgiving. especially after loading HSPL and MAGLDR!
As above the wrong radio is the only real sure fire danger, which boils down to "never ever flash any stock rom except tmous stock roms" (or 51 radios, or 2.04.50 and 2.05.50 which also act like 51 radios.)
Its easy to avoid, since all tmous phones naturally come with a ..50.. radio that works with magldr and such, so no,there is no need for you to flash a radio, you can skip that step.
Thank you I was not aware of those two radios, I immediately went to my little archive I have built up over time to make sure I didn't have those since I have been going back through my radios lately to see if I can get better reception in my house. Luckily those weren't in there.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
you should also probably avoid 2.06.50 too, , without digging through the threads im not sure ive got it right with 2.4 and 2.5, it may be 2.5 and 2.6, since they are the two that come with the very first tmous test roms ( the first two links in the 'tmous stock and test roms' thread)
The first tmous shipped phones came with radio 2.08.50 so i see no reason why anyone would wanna go lower than that.
Thanks to you both. I think I will give NAND a try this week. Now I feel more confident I will not cause more headache than it's worth.
I really like the HD2!
