I'm sure this is something attributable to the mechanics of the camera module but...
Hold your Hero near the bottom. Then lightly tap the camera end against your other hand. Do you hear something kinda loose/shaking? I think it's maybe the autofocus mechanism, as I hear the same sort of sound when the camera activates.
Just wondering if you all notice this too?

Nope, nothing at all with mine. All sounds... well there is no sounds, its just solid and well built

This is a bump for anyone who can confirm or deny that their Hero has this issue, before I seven-day it for another one. I don't want a slightly rattly phone

Yeah - I feel a slight vibration. Like a camera autofocus system. Not a problem, feels well built, but it's definitely there.
Yes, I can hear the "rattle" too - I seriously doubt it is indicative of a problem though.

You guys saying "Nope no noise on mine" must be deaf , I work for Orange in the UK and we have 10 Graphite Heros in the stockroom and they all do this, also a friend has a white hero and his does the same incase you guys thought it might be only on the Graphite ones Orange stock.
Im pretty sure its the autofocus, so i wouldnt worry! and the guys saying they cant hear it must not be listening for the right sound! faint tapping noise when you gently pat the phone on your palm.
Yeh that is it exactly. It's a bit annoying as im easily irritated by that kind of thing. Good to know its normal tho, guess I won't send it back now. Actually I heard the same noise from my friends touch HD today aswell.
Just seemed quite noticeable on mine but I'm probably imagining that.
It detracts somewhat from the otherwise solid build, that a slight rattle can be heard when you kinda toss the phone around in your palm or from hand to hand. Makes it feel a bit less solid.
Everything seems to be ok except for the freaking ear speaker is crackling now when I turned the volume all the way. It didn't happen before, anyone has experience in reviving it please share.
Lower the volume a notch or 2 works better but I can't hear really well with lower volume in a car.

It sounds like the speaker itself is actually broken. The cone is crushed i bet. Bring it to sprint. If there is no visible damage, you might be able to get it fixed free under warrenty, or even swapped.

LOOOOOL HILARIOUS POST BRO.
You can probably get away with saying it was a manufacturer defect and you never noticed it until you played with your friends Evo.
This is a very common problem in the Evos, earpiece crackling sound at full volume. I had to exchange my evo a few times (for various reasons) and never actually got one that didnt crackle at full volume.
Several other members have had this problem on there evo as well. Its a defect, and not because you dropped your phone

Obviously it is because he dropped his phone...............
Use insurance or take it to a tech shop and see what they can do
Interested to hear the likes and dislikes of the NS from those that have had a little time with it.
I know I am hatting the call quality, poor battery meter and radio reception. Hope its just a matter of getting updates to correct these things.
Love the phone overall aside from some left out givens from the galaxy S line. Would like the phone to replace my Vibrant but the call quality so far is killing it for me. Knowing the phone will be first on the next update seems like a plus but at the cost of a few nice features.
Thoughts?

I personally have not had any call quality issues, whats it like for you?

-Charges somewhat slowly (but it has great battery life)
-Gets hot when you charge it (biggest con for me)
-Maybe it was only because of the large amount of files I was copying, but when I mounted the USB storage it lagged quite a bit.

Yeah it lagged for me too, only when I was transferring though, safe to assume it was just that. As for the call quality, I find it very good, no complaints here.

My only problem would be the touch sensitivity on the left and right side of the phone....when landscape texting my thumb naturally hits the edge of the glass and dosent register =/ the vibrant does register but not the MT4G...

Calls sound digitized and buzzy. I sound find to the other party but my side sounds too processed. My Vibrant and N1 are clear with no artifacts. Will swap it out when stock is back up and give it a second chance.
Poor reception in my area at the house. AT&T full bars, on T-Mobile, my bars go from full to 0 to 3, it's just weird, I can just sit here and see it move around.
3G not so great here either. Both these issues is with Cell Coverage, so not really phone related.
No Notification Light is still a big annoying. noLED helps a little but that software needs some major tweaking/options for me to completely like it.
Gingerbread 2.3 keyboard: Stock 2.2 you can swipe left to right to engage voice, no such feature in 2.3, and the mic icon (if you want voice) replaces the comma button , if you turn off the mic icon, comma appears, but now you can't engage voice sigh. Bring back swipe for voice please Google.
Screen is incredible. 100x better than Nexus One. Even in daylight. Only complaint is that it's TOO DAMN BRIGHT.... fixed with the app Screen FIlter.
Web browsing zooming in/out is a bit laggy and not as smooth as I'd like.
No issues on call quality to and from.
I like that the power button is on the side. The external speaker is amazing, huge upgrade form the Nexus One. So much louder and fuller.
I'm coming off a CyanogenMod Nexus One, and happy as heck the Nexus S got rooted first day. I've running everything I need/want on the Nexus S right now. No hiccups from switching from Nexus One CM6.1

Go somewhere noisy. Make a call and the person you are talking to will be lucky to hear half of what you say. The NS is absolutely amazing at picking up every noise but the ones coming from your mouth.
I've had no issues with mine at all. This phone has been pure winfor me!

My dad is on his second NS. Everything he moves (walks or driving) while on a call the person on the other end will start hearing the call being choppy.
So far, my phone has been great.
I only have two complaints about the Nexus S:
- I wish they had used some kind of text coating on the casing to give it a bit of extra grip. The phone, when I first handled it, was really slick.
- There's the ever so slight separation between the glass and casing at the edges that can, will, and does attract dust/dirt/whatevs.
And just one general rant: Stop rearranging the god damn capacitive buttons. Pick an order and stick with it. Google/the OEMs can change the pictures or icons if you like, but please pick an order. It's not fun to relearn a phones buttons every time you get a new one.

It might seem minor, but it really drives people up the wall. My girlfriend decided against upgrading from her N1 to the NS solely because "What? They changed the key layout? Why would they do that?" And she is no dummy, (PHD in organic chem) she could easily adapt in a day or two. But ppeople really value consistency. The proper button order should be part of the Android specs and not left up to the whims of every 2 bit company using Android.
Alright so, now, I've got an LGOG and I would love a phone just a bit bigger, so LG G2 looks just perfect, but I have this huge question, how do buttons on the back of the phone feel? They still don't have the LG G2 as a demo phone yet, and they wont have it anytime soon . so I would like to hear how do you feel this new design, does it feel natural or does it feel weird? I'm asking because I still don't like the change of the power / lock button from above to the side when I upgraded from the P720 3D Max to LGOG (I actually hate that change, I still don't get used to it LOL :silly. Please reviews on how it feels

They've got some review videos of the Korean version, which has the back buttons there. So far, none of the videos really complained about it. It's probably something we'll get used to and I kind of like the fact that it'll be harder to bump the buttons while holding the phone. Also, I can lay it in landscape without touching the volume rockers.

Anyways, the last days I have thinking how Im holding my phone, and in portrait I mostly have my fingers ontop of where the buttons are on the G2. So I think they are perfectly placed there. Only when you hold it in landscape I could imagine it being a bit awkward to reach them, but really, how often does one really change the volume through out the day? I think in the end it will work out for the better.

I'm listening to music all day long at the office with my phone, so I do change the volume very often and I've been thinking about it and might be very uncomfortable because I change the volume as the phone is laying on my desk but anyway, I'll wait to try it before I rush to get it
I like the IDEA of the volume buttons on the back. I'm sure it reduces the bezel size and makes more room for the larger screen with only a marginal increase in overall size. However I use my phone's GPS regularly with the phone mounted in a car holder. The volume and power buttons on the back would be totally inaccessible in the car holder. Since my car cannot play notifications from the GPS while listening to music on my flash drive, I need to occasionally access the volume controls to adjust the notification volume. No can do with the volume on the back.
Having said that, I really don't know if I would find it merely a minor inconvenience, or a major pain in the ass. I sure like what I'm hearing about the phone though.

You do have the volume control in the notification drawer, even though that might be slightly more complex than pushing buttons on the side.
i'm more interested to see how the veirzon buttons feel compared to the rest, seeing as it looks like stupid verizon made them smaller than the normal G2.
also, i like how theres an LED light around hte power button....is that for notifications, too? i bet verizon took that out!
I hope the cases for the other g2 still work on Verizon version

I to have had that concern, but I also use an app called Volume Control that allows me a volume slider that sits on top of everything. This would cure it for me.

Hi there. I just got myself a Korean version of this beautiful beast, I also got the quickview cover so that the magic is complete.It works perfect, battery life is awesome-compared to the lgog I had before. So after a week of heavy usage and txsting, I have noticed a single drawback of the unusual buttons placement-I often accidentally interrupt my calls because -yes, they placed those buttons exactly where you normally place your index finger. And that is why you push the end-of-call button sooooo easily. Apart from that-not a single complaint. They finally came to their senses about the speaker placement becsuse the rear panel is really unfortunate, I could not hear the phone ring on the sofa. bottom location is much better. Also the knock-knock feature is great, I got used to it in an instant and it does not consume your battery life in idle mode if this is what worries you. It works just fine and I love it. Really!
One of the few things that's really annoying me about this phone is the haptic motor. It feels so cheap in comparison to other phones I've had. When it's vibrating for a text message or a phone call it's just fine, but when it's used for haptic feedback or typing it has this rattle/crackle sound that it makes that is super annoying. I think it has something to do with it being used for short bursts of feedback. I've toyed around with feedback duration during typing, but still get it. Do I just have a defective phone, or is this something other people experience too?
Really? It's the opposite for me. I find the vibrate a little too strong/loud when receiving texts etc, but feedback while using the keyboard and unlocking the screen feel really good to me.
I'm glad to have a strong vibration. Half the time I could not feel my G2 when it vibrated.
For texts, I love this vibration as it's not as hardcore as my Nexus 6. That one aggravated the sh*t out of me. As for the crackling sound, I just turned the vibrate on for SwiftKey, and I indeed noticed it too. I used to love the keyboard vibration, but I turned it off after a while. I'm glad I did, because that crackling would aggravate me to no end. Just letting you know this is not a defective device for you. Seems to just be the motor itself.
I got that too and I just noticed it today. It kind of makes a rattling noise when I am typing. Read a post on reddit where this guy compared two pures and apparently one of them didn't have that issue. The vibration was soft and fluid, with no rattle.
I absolutely love the vibrate. it's not that harsh buzzy vibrate like my Samsung or LG.. it's a nice like, round, flubby vibrate like the htc phones used to have lol

My vibration is loose as well. I also saw that reddit thread where someone was comparing two phones.
I did a Live Assistance chat with Motorola the other day and the rep said this was normal. Judging from the questions they were asking me, I think they thought I was mistaking the noise with the audio-notification (I'm not...). He/she kept trying to get me to adjust the notification volume.
In the end, the rep said they were going to escalate the issue to level 2 tech support and that someone would contact me. Exact words were:
"Just want to inform you that it is normal when you activates vibration on your phone but to lessen the worries on your mind, I will refer you and this concern to our level 2 technical support department to further assist you."

Probably luck of the draw. The only bad motor I've really had was the original moto x. All my other phones have been fine. And I've been through quite a few. Didn't bother me that much since I don't like haptic feedback for touches really and it was turned off most of the time. If it really bothers you trade it for another if possible.
Yeah, i love my moto x but the haptic motor feels like a device from more than a decade ago. I don't understand why they just couldn't go with the button style vibrating motor that samsung has.
My motor feels fine. The original moto x I had felt like it was gonna rattle loose.

At times I think I hear a rattle, other times its way too loud, and other times it's fine.
Guys, please, do this test:
Shake the phone in a (totally) silent room (maybe better at night), or next to your ear.
The strength of the shake must be like that you use to enable the torch with "chop chop" gesture.
Let me know if you ear something "moving" (cannot describe it in another way) inside your phone. I think it's the vibration motor, because the feedback it gives during texting, is different whether i use my phone in normal way (screen face up), or at bed (screen face down). Thanks

sounds like it's coming from the top. probably something in the camera module or the headphone jack

Shaking probably won't work. Camera sensor isn't stationary in a lot of phones.
yeah, my vibration motor is a little wonky also. I her a little extra rattle that I don't usually get on my other devices. it kinda annoys me but I'll run it for a few more days and see how bad it gets on my nerves.
Yeah, I have this issue as well, and had the same issue on my old Droid RAZR Maxx (in which the haptic feedback gave out after a little less than a year and a half). I think it's a Motorola thing.

I just got my Pure Edition 32GB. Really surprised and eventually extremely annoyed by the same rattling sounds you've been experiencing. I think I just got a solution (IF you are using stock GOOGLE KEYBOARD -which is great for me- ) :
Menu>Settings>Language & Input>Google Keyboard>Preferences>Vibration Strength on keypress: SET IT ON 40ms.
