[Q] Sending my phone back in for warranty! - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I have flashed back to the stock SPL and ROM, but I only have one question. My HD2 is a t-mobile version, and I noticed that it originally had a t-mobile splash screen instead of the HTC splash screen. Since I have a t-mobile version HD2, will I need to flash back to the t-mobile splash screen before I send it in for warranty so they won't suspect that it has been flashed? Let me know ASAP. Thanks!

Yes you will need the stock splash screen or they will know you messed with it. Search "stock splash screen"

most branded roms also contain the very first splashscreen
know this for a fact regarding the latest O2 UK rom
my advice would be to check the HTC website and use the serial # of your actual phone to download the ROM. If the site throws the error (not suitable for your device) you can safely assume that it will give problems at the warranty desk
on the other hand, if the site accepts your serial and offers a download in the drop-down menu below (try the T-mobile roms for your country first) you should flash that ROM first.
then check if the boot screen has been reverted as well, if not search for it and flash.
make sure to remove hspl first. Original ROMs with matching branding will flash without hspl. if it doesn't work or sticks at 0%, you can try to revert from SPL3 (2.08.000) to a lower original spl using the SPL2 tool

Can't get back to stock telus rom

Hi Guys i need some help.
I wanted to try out the new Bell UI wich is pretty cool but no functional for my self. So i have tried numerous time to go back to the stock Telus ROM but my phone keeps freezing and go load the ROM. I am using the upgrade utility from juicy's page and the Telus stock ROM he has posted. It will go as far as showinf the status bar and then there is an error. The loader wants you to go through recovery mode but my phone is stuck and i need to pull the battery and it just boots like normal. This happened as well when i flashed to juicy's rom.Any help would be awesome.
There are questions... does your phone change to the 3 colour boot screen?
If yes then you get the error... maybe you flashed back to the telus locked pcl and are actually flashing a custom rom built off of the telus oem package?
If it is the original telus rom it should flash without issue using either original pcl or unlocked pcl. Maybe you should reflash the unlocked pcl then flash the telus rom... then flash the pcl back to stock.
I have check to make sure it it unlocked. I just ran the upgrade utility right now to make sure it was unlocked. I get the three color screen it says security unlocked. So when i go to upgrade it to the telus stock ROM which i downloaded from juicy's page it will load through the three color screen and show the status bar at 0% and the the upgrade utility goes into recovery mode. I take the battery out and it starts up like nothing has happen. I dont know what to do any more with this thing
If the rom you have is indeed the stock telus rom... then try flashing back the locked ipl then do the rom upgrade... what I was getting at before was maybe the ipl rom is corrupt.
Hi thanks for you help. I have just tried re locking the phone with the diamond re locker from juciy's page . It said everything was fine and then i tried to upgrade to the telus stock rom and it did the same thing. when you say "flashing back the locked ipl" what does that mean. Sorry ...... did what it said on pocket PC geeks to lock the phone again. thanks in advance
You covered the bases, and it doesn't sound too good... the fact that you were able to reflash the relocked ipl and it still failed is hard to understand why it won't flash the os itself, could be a comm error with the usb? Do you have another machine you can try the flash on... guys like juicy or other c4rbon members could probably help with some insturction on pushing the rom via a terminal session with the phone but I'm not sure.
use again Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex, and after try the stock rom, i had the same problem with htc stock rom, hope it will work for you to.
Hi
I have tried what you sudgest but when i run that one is will not even get to the loader three color screen ......just locks freezes the phone with the color wheel showing. dammmm i dont know what to do now arrrrgggg!!!!!

Flashing HD2 with WWE ROM

Hello,
I want to flash my device with 1.66.707.1 rom. I can't download it via HTC official page.
Now I have few questions. According to that I couldn't download it from HTC official page in my country because I've got inappropriate S/N. May I install it on my radio if I supply good (fake) S/N to official HTC page?
I even didn't tray to do this because I'm afraid I can turn my HD2 a into brick.
I don't care about language. I think that after flashing ROM I can download a proper language pack.
Greats.
invalid serial means your phone is vendor locked. (eg t mobile, vodafone or whatever)
even if you download using a different serial the upgrade will fail saying "vendor id mismatch" or something similar.
in theory you need to wait for your vendor to release the update, however in reality installing hspl will allow you to instal the update without getting the error.
go read the hspl threads.
Easy to sey .
It's my first Windows Mobile based phone. I've never installed rom, and yet a cooked one.
I've have some bugs about which I've read on this forum. Those are:
* lack of virtual keyboard while creating a new text message (or any app which need it)
* error while starting digital camera.
All of that disappear after soft reset. That's why I want to install the newest rom.
To not start a new thread is there any way to find out if the rom which I downloaded from HTC suits to my phone? S/N is correct. If I start RUU it will start flashing my device, yes?
Another question. Is it true that every HTC Leo has 576MB RAM but it is locked down?
read this then, it has all the info you need on flashing your phone...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
once HSPL is installed you can download an official WWE ROM from this thread and run it as if it were an official ROM for your phone...

As EddyOS stated, go read my flashing guide THOROUGHLY!!
1. Install HardSPL on your device (best done using WindowsXP or Windows7 32bit).
2. Download the Rom you require from the download site provided and flash using the instructions provided in my guide.
3. Enjoy your new phone
Once you have HardSPL on your phone it will be protected from bad flashes and you will be able to flash stock or custom roms or radios as and when you require. HardSPL is definitely reccommended as it has probably saved hundreds of phone from being turned into paperweights when flashing a bad rom or flashing incorrectly.
If you want to try a custom rom then I would definitely recommend the one in my signature but its totally upto you what you decide to put on your device.
With regards to the 576MB Ram it does seem that its actually accessible but only using the newer 2.02 Roms with specific Radios. This has been tested and verified. It wont be accessible on a 1.66 stock rom though.

- What ROM were you trying to flash and what ROM version (and language) do you have on your device?
- Is your device Branded?
- Did you flash HSPL?
- Did you see a progress bar on screen when flashing, or just the colored bars?
- When you get to the tricolor-screen (bootloader) and you connect to your PC, does it say USB after a few seconds, or does it say Serial?
- What went wrong at 24%? Did you unplug the phone, did your system crash, or were you just being inpatient?
If you answer the above questions, someone may be able to help you. Also, start by reading the stickies.
Rom was 1.48.479.1 and I wanted to replace it with 1.48.479.1 because some bugs were annoying me which I mentioned earlier.
Yes my device is branded but it doesn't have simlock.
No I didn't used HSPL because I downloaded rom from HTC using my own original S/N.
When I was flashing I saw brogress bar with HTC logo.
I have those tri-colour screen when I power on the device, but before that I have warning triangle. No it doesn't say Serial nor USB.
What went wrong. I swear I don't know. No, no, no I wasn't impatient. After it hanged on 24% I got error message from the program on PC with UPGRADE ERROR. I've tried to resume like the program said me. But without any effect. What I did was unplug; put aut battery; wait 3 seconds; put battery in; power on and plug in. I'm sure that I was doing everything right because I was following the program.

If i have 1.48 and with my serial can`t download 1.66... it is recommended to install WWE 1.66 with serials posted here without HSPL? my device is also WWE and was only sim locked Vodafone. (non-branded)
If you have questions regarding rom or hardspl flashing please ask in the correct thread.
if,when you put your serial into htc website, it doesn't allow you to download, then you MUST use hspl to flash an unbranded rom.
@y0ystet. your phone is branded. sim lock its not connected to vendor lock.instal hspl and try again, same rom.
@lakhbeer, did you flash hspl first? more detail please, messed up? doesn't work?
@rayman your phone is vodafone locked.
I repeat, the htc website doesn't accept your serial, you are provider locked and that is not connected to sim lock/unlock.
I sent an e-mail to HTC about that. They said I can send the phone to them.
I found sth out. If I hold the volume down and connect the usb cable I have a message on my screen. On screen which have three colours on green I have: "Upgrade Rom code error. Please try again" And on the white I have: "Serial".
Is there anything I can do about that?
But don't say me to flash witch the HSPL. I won't do that on two reasons:
I've never do that
If I send it to service I'll void my warranty.
What would you suggest to do?
I've solved the problem .
you going to let people know for future use?
How to fix ROM error on VODAFONE UK solution
I also have a HTC HD2 bought from Vodafone.

How to remove the test ROM flash screen on boot?

I have been flashing different version ROMs to my HD2 and I decided to try one of the TMobile US Roms.
The "problem" is I now have the "Lets Stick Together - This is a test not for sale" flash screen before the HTC logo appears.
I would like to remove it... but no idea how?
Can anyone tell me how to do this? I have the HSPL flashed and can load any ROM easily enough - its just the annoying flash screen that won't get removed.
Hope you didn't flash using the SD card method otherwise you're now on SPL 2.x and can't use HSPL to flash other ROMs...
There are posts with the generic shipped splash screen but can't find one at the mo...

Here the original (i.e. stock) one.

Tmobile splash rom need, please!

I will return my HD2 to Tmobile (USA). I flashed a custom splash screen rom and now need a original splash rom change it back, or anybody know how to delete it and it will work too ( I still have 1st screen and animation from tmobile when it boot, but there is a extra picture between them). I did a lot of research, but I couldn’t find it. Could anybody here help me out?

I covered this in a thread I wrote for the TP2, as these devices are the same resolution, the steps are almost the same.
Check out the "Step 6" section.

There are a few questions before you proceed.
1. Did you HSPL your phone? If so you need to take that off (for turn in) and flash the original ROM from your SD card (this will remove HSPL).
Please see this thread for how to do this> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655653
The 2.10, (not 2.10.1), 2.11, 2.13 all have the required splash screens included in the ROM's for Tmo US
2. If you did not HSPL your phone then see the above post. Most of the SPL screens are generic for HTC.
Yes, I did HSPL and tried 2.10, 2.13, but it couldn't remove 2nd screen (extra one).
Thank you, Dave. I read your artical and it is helpful. It is complicate for me to do it by myself. Do you have an easy way?

Not to doubt you but the 2.13 Stock ROM overwrote all these screens... I had custom ones on my cooked ROM's and it cleared them out.
But I'll throw you a bone ;-) go here:

down near the bottom of the first post is the originals.
I installed LEOsplash_Stock.zip, it replaced stick together screen. However, the extra splash is still there. After I flashed 2.13, 1st from Tmobile came back, other thing wouldn't change. What else I can do for it? Thank you. By the way, I couldn't install HTC HD2 BIOS Boot Splash Screen DEFAULT.cab.

The first boot screen has to be flashed... The archive should have a ruu_signed.nbh file inside. Here is what I use: - Remove the TMobile "pink" Spash screen, post #5.
In fact, I already returned my phone to tmobile and do have chance to try your method. Thank you for your input.

[Q] Device bricked after attempt to flash official firmware

The firmware on it was 1.48.405.2, S/N HT9CSNW01982
Couldn't download the update from the HTC site with this serial, it said that the download is not suitable for this device.
Tried to flash using the exe and active sync, but at 1% would say "error [294] invalid vendor id"
Tried to install HARDSPL, but it was unable to connect to the device, though it was connected to active sync, and HSPL did manage to bring out the bootloader.
So I used mtty without HARDSPL, which bricked it.
Now it doesn't boot, it just stops at the first screen with the green HTC on white background
I've tried hard factory reset, but it's no help
If I try to flash from SD with any stock ROM, it displays "00028002 not allow"
It boots the bootloader, as follows:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.0000 XE
MicroP(Led) 0x05
MicroP(touch) 0x30
I don't know if it was branded and then unlocked, the guy I've bought it from said he got it retail and it was never locked. I can't be shure about that, all I know is that it's bought from UK
Can anything be done or should I start using it as a paperweight?
mtty has removed your operating system so of course it won't boot.
enter bootloader, flash a rom, fixed.
I tried to flash from SD with stock ROM, but it displays "00028002 not allow"
I used 1.48.405.2 from the HTC site (which was supposed to be it's original version), but nothing
Any ideas?
sounds like you are using teh wrong stock rom.
You cant just flash any stock rom, it must be the correct rom for your phone. So if your phone was originaly vodaphone germany, you must use a vodaphone germany rom, else it wont flash.
If you use hspl2, then you can flash anything you like.
Example
get the 1.66 wwe rom from official roms thread.
boot phone into bootloader.
connect usb.
when 'serial' changes to 'usb' right click hspl.exe and choose run as administrator
when it runs choose 1.66.hspl
when it completes, return to bootloader again
connect usb
when 'serial' changes to 'usb' run the 1.66 wwe.exe file.
I know what happened... I followed the MTTY thread and changed the default win7 active sync drivers with the ones from the thread. So that's why hspl would not connect...
Can I use 2.08.HSPL from HSPL3 to flash the latest 3.14.405.2 stock update from HTC?
And another thing... how can I find what's the original firmware for my phone? Because I know it was bought from the UK and the firmware on it was 1.48.405.2
i think the 1st port of call for you is to get the correct update updat for your phone , if there is one. o2 and other providers have not yet had updates (3.14) for their branded phones . go to htc uk , put your s/number in and see if they have an update for you , if you get the "this update is not suitable for your phone" or similar , message , this means that you have a branded phone that the generic update is not suitable for
Yes it does say that, but my problem is that I don't know from what provider it is, since I bought it second hand. Is there any way to find this out?

?? That should have been a pretty good indicator that it wasnt going to work.......
I think some reading is in order before you attempt this again.............
I did read, that's why I tried to use HARDSPL
I managed in the end to install 2.08.HSPL, but if I try to flash any stock ROM, it stops after (presumedly) it flashes the bootloader and displays "not allow" again
I am able though to flash custom roms.
Is there any way to find what was the original (branded?) firmware, so I can track it down? Or maybe to strip the bootloader off a stock ROM, so I can use it with HSPL?
only "method" i know is to take your s/n and try to download offical roms on htc's site.
if you can download a vodafone one, its vdf branded, if you can download a o2 one, its o2 branded and so on..

Call HTC support and tell them you want to upgrade your phone, but bought it unbranded and don't know which country it belongs to. That's what I did and they told me without any issues.
Once you have it, download and run.
Also, try some of the more esoteric regions. My phone was from Czech and although the website is not in English, the ROM upgrades were, so I was able to flash stock w/o issues
my phone is vodafone (i removed the simlock) and the HTC website told me no update for you.
so i used a custom rom.

are you sure you got it unlocked? Did you see the "we unlocked it" screen? Also, flashing a stock ROM from the sd card locks the hspl again so that may be your problem. Don't flash a stock ROM from your sd card unless you want it locked.
Indeed, I tried to flash it from the SD card, because I had no OS to boot to. So I flashed a custom ROM from th SD, then flashed a stock ROM via active sync and now the stock ROM runs happily on HSPL
Big thanks to all who answered my post and helped me to revive my phone!
