Flashing boot screen, Bell I9000, let's get it back to life! - Galaxy S I9000 General

Internal SD card failure - many of us on same boat now...It's clearly Samsung's fault, phone must be recalled, but, in the meanwhile, let's share your information - at which point your phone died; did you manage bring it back to life at all?
My phone died yesterday, after I've forced app.close few times (Skype).
I've upgraded to Froyo about 3 weeks ago, never had any problems till yesterday. Phone was all stock.
I bought phone on CL, so no receipt, no warranty
I was able to go to download mode, but not recovery mode.
I found this post, guy managed to bring phone back to life, but his method didn't help me
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/235987-clueless.html
I've tried many times with no success.
But somehow I've managed first to pass flashing boot screen (animation with music, then phone hangs), then suddenly it loaded system with I19000xxJPM! Still shows no SD card space available, gives force close errors, but it works!
Mostly I was playing with XXJPU, re-partition, multifile, 512.pit,
I19000xxJPM, 803.pit, Yaok 1.50 with 803.pit (no re-partition), UGJH2 and 512.pit, reflashing one after another in different combinations
Few times I've seen recovery mode, but never was able to format SD card.
Update: I was even able to make JK3 to work - I flashed JK3 - boots through animation and comes to black screen, after this I've flashed Ya-ok 1.50 with 803.pit, it loads Froyo JK3, still can't format SD card though...
My questions for now - is there way to eliminate using internal SD card (use external SD card instead)? Is there non-standard ways of formatting SD card (when I try to do this in Settings - nothing happens)?
So far I've found this, but it sounds a little too complicated to me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845708#9316375
And it looks that this method is not for Bell Vibrant anyway...

Good luck!
It's extremely likely the internal SD has died and there's nothing you can do to fix that other than sending it into Bell.

Any idea how much they will charge for repair if phone is not under warranty (no receipt)?

if your a bell customer all u have to tell them is you bought a galaxy s off the market and after upgrade it died... the tech person never asked me for a receipt (bell one), he just asked me for the esn to make sure and asked me what happened to it...
said it died after the upgrade... he said already ill process a replacement for you and give you a 100 for inconvenience...
if you arent a bell customer (id suggest try to see if one of ur family members or friends is if you can get them to call for you... they get free hundred)... if not then u can call the samsung center and they send you a post package where u can send in for a replacement... no need for a receipt

I'm Bell customer, I've called today tech support, they offered replacement phone but asked me to send my phone with receipt...I've checked at Bell store today - my phone wasn't purchased at Bell store (they can check this). I guess bad luck...Same with Samsung (1-800-726-7864) - they also asked for receipt. Not sure what I can do now...

Has anyone without a receipt tried registering the phone and submitting a Product Service Request on samsung's website?
My phone is still working but I am afraid it is not going to last and I don't have a receipt myself.
I have registered my phone on Samsung's support website samsung.com/ca/mysamsung/product/myssMyProductRegist2.do?page=PRODUCT.REGISTRATION
It automatically found the manufacturing date by serial number. (August 31 for me)
Then I have an option to submit a Product Service Request and it says that attaching a receipt scanned image is recommended but not necessary.
Could someone try this out and post back the results?

Just wondering - there are so many custom ROMs, so, many guys smart enough to make changes in system . The only change we need - disable internal SD card in the system and force system to use external SD card instead. Anyone?
I've just noticed the funny thing - I can't access/mount/format external SD card either, even though it's not corrupted. So, the problem might be not internal SD card but faulty firmware or some other hardware (controller etc.)?

I remember a year back I try to get a 2 year old phone fix by bell, bell would charge me "fees"
call future tel directly, they had a UPS box sent to my door step ship to them for a quote, if I decide to not have it fix, they would send me the phone back no charges

It's dead. Flash a stock JL2 and call it in to Bell.
No one has been able to recover from that error message. The best you'll get is booting into Android with no internal/external memory available.

Agreed. If you are a Bell customer, call up tech support and tell them your problem (Don't mention flashing, kernels... ect.) and say your phone died while upgrading to Android 2.2 - from there you should expect a $100 credit and the rep to start the replacement/repair process. Good Luck!
you can also call Samsung directly to get your UPS shipping label
then you can send in your phone for direct replacement

The latest I have read is that most phones are not getting replaced but just having the motherboard replaced.. Mind you I hope YOU are right since mine is in for repair right now lol.
most people that received their phone back either from Bell or Samsung, got a new IMEI # and new phone
or in the worse case scenario, you get your old phone back same IMEI with a new motherboard
called bell tech support
rep got me setup for a replacement
asked them should I bring my phone to the store and he said "they have been order to do phone replacement and not to redirect to any store and 100 credit to my account for all the trouble"
also ask if they're doing repairs and he said from what he was told they're suppose to do replacement only
update on my status
I don't know if either I'm sure lucky or Bell is awesome
Call Bell Wednesday received replacement phone today (Friday)
Its a 10.12 brand new phone, comes with all its original accessories (I read somewhere that you only get the phone in bubble wrap)
You have to return the defective phone by 5 Business days, with original battery and charger, also it states if failure is due to client damages there could be $499 repair charge and if not return by 5 business days will be charged full value of the devices.
This process was painless!

Memory Card not being recognized!!!!!

I droped my EVO yesterday and the screen literally shattered worse then I have ever seen a phone shatter, so I called Assurion to see what needed to be done and by informed me that it would be $100 and there was a 2 week back order before I could get a new "refurbished" device. I than tried going to a few different Sprint Service Repair centers in the area and thy all told me that since the crack was more that a single 2" crack it was to be presumed physically damaged and I hadto go through Assurion. I tried 1 last place this morning and the tech was nice and generous enough to swap out the entire screen housing. I am however stuck with a device that is not recognizing my SD card. I have tried different memory cards, tried formatting the existing memory card and still nothing. I put he SD card in the computer and the computer recognized the SD card no problem. The tech used the speech that it might be the fact that I am rooted and running non stock software and that I might just have to reinstall he software or try a hard reset. I am hoping someone here has some advice from personal experience on how to get my problem resolved.
Ok turned out to be a weird problem that is now resolved. I went back onto Sprint and I think it might have just been loose contacts connecting the SD slot.

[Q] Received replacement phone. Has Android 2.3.3 on it. Has error on it.

Received replacement phone. Has Android 2.3.3 on it. Has error on it.
Short story.
Monday - I lost my phone. Called T-Mobile, and they told me to report to Asurion. Fine.
Tuesday - receive new G2 from Asurion. Only catch is, it has two errors that are seemingly permanent at the moment:
1) "New Voicemail" notification in toolbar. I have no voicemails/no saved messages. So this is annoying.
2) "Blank SD card. SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem." This is SUPER annoying at the moment as I cannot use my picture gallery or anything else that would store data on the phone (MP3 players, etc).
I'm fairly tech savvy. I rebooted the phone. Checked the physical metal contacts on both the phone and the microSD card. Everything is fine. The phone itself works, as the SIM card is just fine and I can make phone calls, receive text messages, etc.
*When I connected the phone to my computer via the USB cable, the phone asks if I want to turn on USB connectivity (which I click yes). But it will not officially register w/ my computer (my computer doesn't recognize it as a removable disk drive device...ie...can't left or right click on it). I've clicked on "mount SD card" on the phone. I've clicked on "erase SD card" on the phone. None of this has worked.
So I called T-Mobile to get a handle on the "blank SD card" issue. They troubleshooted. Nothing. Referred me to HTC. I called HTC. They troubleshooted. Referred me back to T-Mobile. T-Mobile sent me over to Asurion, as they said since it is a replacement phone via warranty, they (Asurion) would handle it. Asurion said their warranty covers only the phone and nothing else (such as the microSD card). So I'm $hit out of luck at the moment. Their only suggestion, was to go get a microSD card elsewhere and try that in the phone to see if that will work. Based on what I'm reading, it seems HIGHLY unlikely this will fix the issue, but I will attempt it nonethless. If it doesn't work, T-Mobile and Asurion will be hearing from me.
So while Gingerbread seems to be great, T-Mobile/Asurion has been less than helpful to me in my case because the SD card issue prevents me from doing things such as use my picture gallery, listen to music, download MP3s, etc.
Any suggestions from you guys on what I can do as far as getting the SD card to work? (And fix the damn "new voicemail" notification).
try a different SDcard? if that one doesn't work, call Asurion and tell them. They should replace it no problem
Try using a card reader for the SD card, connect it to your computer, and format the SD card. I also jad that error on my Desire Z when I got it before. Thought that there was something wrong since other memory cards worked. Formatting the SD worked for me.

To fix the voicemail issue call and leave yourself a voicemail. Dial in and delete the new voicemail, this should reset the voicemail server and clear the notification.
Just call back and tell them the phone is frozen. Tell them you tried a master reset and it's still frozen. If they ask you to do it again, just pretend to do it. If they happen to read the notes from the previous call (not very likely) just say, "yeah, it had a problem with the sd card, but NOW my problem is that it's frozen!" In the exceedingly unlikely event that you get a rep who gives you a really hard time, just hang up and call back and try again.
They aren't going to call you out on the carpet and there's no penalty if you exchange a phone and they find nothing wrong with it at the repair center.

OP, just wondering how the battery life is on your phone now? Cause I bought a brand new G2 with 2.3.3 on it as well and it seems pretty bad and I don't even have the data plan hooked up to it yet so I can only imagine how bad it would be. Was it significantly better on Froyo? Just curious cause tmo can send me a replacement any time.
I fixed the voicemail issue.
Replaced the microSD card and that fixed it as well. Disappointed that I was given a bad microSD card...
As for battery life, I'll run a test today.
Battery life pre-Gingerbread compared to Gingerbread...honestly about the same. Not that much longer. Not enough for me to notice and be WOWed over.

[Q] Randomly Restarting

Hi guys, Im with Telus and my phone has been restarting randomly and over heating and giving me an error message that says replace storage card. This is what I have been through in the past couple weeks. I gave my phone to Telus and told them the problem. Couple weeks later I got it back and was told LG reflashed my phone.
For a couple hours it worked then when I got home it went back to restarting randomly, and sometimes it would say replace storage card like before, then I would have to take out the battery and put it back in and it will be stuck on the LG logo and I would have to repeatidly take out the battery and put it back in until my phone boots up again.
So I went back to Telus they sent the phone back to LG, LG reflashed the device again but now my phone doesnt say storage card missing it just totally hard resets and erases everything on my phone each time!
Now im a little pissed and I call Telus and the lady was understanding and nice and told me they will replace my phone with another Lg optimus 7 for free if I go to the telus store i bought my phone at, and if theres any problem to call us back.
Today I went to Telus store and the lady working there told me they dont replace phones for free so I called Telus customer service and that lady told me I was misinformed and she wouldn't budge so I left the store.
This is really frustrating, what should I do? I understand a lot of you probably aren't in Canada and dont know Telus policies but I heard this is a known defective problem in some LG e900h phones. And wondering what I should do, should i give it in for another repair or what?
Thanks
Internal WP7 memory are in fact...SD Card and WP7 need it to store system data.
So it seems that the connection between your sd card slot and your motherboard is defective.
Since you cannot access the slot, forget Telus and try to contact LG directly.
Telus must provide a warranty but don't forget that it doesn't void the "manufacturer warranty"
And don't forget to explain them the Telus inefficient support ^^
That's odd that Telus isn't replacing your phone, I had similar issues when I bought my phone near the device launch, so I took it back, and they replaced it with no questions asked. Did you purchase your phone from a corporate telus store? or from an authorized dealer? That shouldn't matter anyway, I bought mine from a dealer in Calgary
thanks for the reply guys... I bought it a telus retail store... the most frustrating part is the first lady told me after contacting her support staff that I could get it replaced ... but when I got there, they decided to screw me. Anyways im going to try to contact telus one more time, then LG.

Unfortunately, you are incorrect with regards to the SD Card ... Both LG and Samsung phones have internal NAND flash made by Toshiba. This was revealed through teardowns and repair manuals. So, there is no way to replace the memory on a Optimus 7 without a complete logic board change.
Oops, saw wp7 phone teardowns months ago and nand was "faked" by simple sd cards. Must have been HTC phones.
Thx for rectification

[Q] Dell Venue Pro Stuck at Dell Logo

Well the worst has happened...
I have been running a DVP since March w/o any major hassles. Updated to NoDo fine, updated to Mango Beta (legit) fine, updated to Mango fine...
Then last night I wanted to setup my old phone to tether so I took my SIM out and when I put it back in the DVP it wouldn't boot - it was stuck at the logo screen.
I took the battery out and tried a couple of times but it never got past the Dell logo screen.
So having my restore points backed up from previous upgrades I decided to revert back to my previous restore point. I turned it on holding down the volume/camera button and Zune saw it no problem. I began the restore and it got to 49% then gave me an error saying it could no longer communicate with my device! So I started the process all over again and then it gave me a error stating that there is no restore point available!
Luckily I had a backup of my restore point, so I tried again but now Zune is stuck at 0% trying to restore!
Anyway I contacted Dell last night via their website but haven't heard back yet. The problem is that I purchased the device in the USA but I live in Australia so no local customer support! If I don't hear back from Dell soon does anyone have any direct Dell customer service email addresses I could try?
Thanks!
I have same issue! And I can't solve it anymore...
Have you tried to restore your phone with an oldest version of Zune before the mango update for exemple?
No I haven't... I no longer have the phone in my possession.
I contacted Dell and managed to get them to take a look at it (I'm in Australia so not officially supported under warranty). They think that it may be hardware fault with communication port. Anyway it is going to take a few months before I get a replacement model...
OK!
Can you tell me how you contacted them?
I tried many times but I have some trouble, DVP is not supported in France and the US support told me to call Germany support....
Any updates?
I know this is a really late reply, but I have the same problem with my DVP and even used this thread to "unbrick" it for no fault of mine. Had the problem reoccur 2 days later. Same old, same old, for no reason, out of the blue. Did the same things again to restore and took a backup of the entire phone this time using the "WP7 Easy Backup Tool" after installing all the apps. And last night my DVP died again (again 2 days after the last restore). So I'm doing the restore for the third time now and have no idea what the local (India) Dell Service guys will say about it, coz the phone was bought in the US (but it's been less than 5 months, still under warranty there for such things I guess.
Can you please tell me what happened with your respective countries and if you managed to get your phone replaced at all?
Thanks a million!

You know that probably could be the SD card being bad. I have a HTC HD7 that is doing that when it boots up and through some testing on the HD 7 I found out the sd card is bad. Try putting a new sd card and then reflash the unit. Good luck.
It's funny that all other WP7 handsets that I know of have a key combo for hard reset. With the DVP you actually have to replace the card and reflash it. Thank god someone took the time to post the DVP unbricking thread, because otherwise anyone with a dead SD card would be outta luck.
I'm not entirely sure what this guy is experiencing is a dead SD card, though. Every time I've booted a Windows Phone with a SD card not installed or not seeded correctly, it always booted to a "cannot read storage card" screen.
I just experienced that with a hd7. As any storage device ex hard drives, sd cards, ssd ... they all have potential to go bad in many ways. Bad sectors is one or just doesn't physically turn on anymore , which is what you were describing. Hey technosquid thanks again for the dvp rom you helped me in the other thread.

I just don't get how dell could miss that. It's a vital way to "rescue" your phone if you somehow mess it up. Dell should just stick to computer hardware.
