How To Install GAPPS Using CWM on a NAND build - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

BIG NOTE!
This is not a guide on how to install ZIPPED roms via CWM, only for those who have NAND roms and want to install apps or other patches in the ziip format via recovery.
I've been following the MDJ thread and tons of people keep asking this question. No one really gave a step by step answer so that people like me can figure it out easily. So after a few days I figured it out. So I wanted to share this with everyone.
Although this may become obsolete when Cotulla releases the new MAGLDR.
First you need to download the appropriate GAPPS zip file for your build of android.
Next download CWM Recovery from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898913
Open the CWM zip file and copy the files inside copy_to_sd_root to the root of your SD card (This should be easier now since dan1j3l fixed the USB mass storage problem for us gingerbread users). There should only be 2 files.
Now since you already have a NAND rom you don't need to run the included DAF.exe because doing so will make your NAND build unbootable, we dont want that
Next copy over your GAPPS zip folder to your SD card. I made a directory on the root of the SD card called 00APPS so it shows up at the top of the list when i go into CWM and I put the GAPPS file there, but you don't have to do it like me if you dont want to, it just saves the volume rocker from too many button presses .
OK now that you got that all down, just reboot your phone when the boot screen logo comes up press and hold the power button/end call on your
your phone until the MAGLDR menu comes up.
Now all you need to do is select the first option which is Boot AD SD.
doing so will launch CWM and you're all good!
IN CWM use the volume rocker to choose the “install zip from sdcard” option and select it with the call button on your phone.
Next select the “choose zip from sdcard” and press the call button to select that option.
In the next dialog navigate to your zip file that you placed on your sd card and select it.
WARNING!
If you select a zipped rom to flash at this point it probably wont boot because you did not run DAF.exe to set the appropriate partitioning ahead of time. DAF.EXE will basically initialize the phone for use with CWM and zipped roms. You can not flash a NAND roms will overwrite CWM installed zipped roms and vice-versa.
You'll have to confirm the install but that will be self explanatory.
Wait for the install to complete and then press the back button once to get back to the main menu. Then select “reboot system now” and your phone should now have GAPPS installed.
If you found this helpful, feel free to give me a thanks!

Maybe more Devs post easy instructions like this??
I've been flashing ever since the HD2 existed and flashed hundreds or Builds, but was a bit, well...intimidated by the process of installing a build by anything other than using the DFT method, but today I came across a Coredroid build, so i flashed it using his instructions and have to say...EVEN I did it with 100% no problem at all.
Trust me, if I can do it, then a 2yr old can do it.
Here is the thread which contains the, what I find to be the best, easiest and well laid out set of instructions for, not-so-confident flashers like me:
(bare in mind, these particular instructions, as far as i'm aware are ONLY for Coredroid build)

Zip is what you flash with cwm (clockworkmod recovery. Dft (dark forces team) is the one you have to flash using a computer. Cwm is more convenient and easier, you can make nandroid backups and you don't even need a computer to flash it.
i agree, it can be a bit confusing. but reading all the stickies, watching the vids can help.
but here is a bit for you:
DFT - used for installing over usb after you have flashed magldr. it is the most analogous to installing a WM rom. after loading into magldr > flash usb > connect phone to computer, you run DAF.exe and it installs android to nand.
read this for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
CWM/ZIP - CWM allows you to flash nand roms via zips found on your sd card. but what really makes it nice is it lets you back up your rom so you can try out new roms and then, if you don't like them/they are unstable, you simply can load your old rom.
installing CWM is like installing a DFT rom or flashing anything when you used WM. you enter magldr > flash usb > and then run DAF.exe found in the CWM folder.
the tricky thing about CWM and zip roms is that different zip roms use different CWM sizes (135mb, 150, 200, 400, etc.) i know this has to do with size saving but other than that i don't know much. but the rom chef often puts exactly what you need in his/her installation instructions.
after installing CWM you are ready to flash via your sd card. from the hyperdroid thread:
# Boot into MAGLDR (Power On and HOLD the Power Button till MAGLDR options are shown)
# Boot into AD SD or AD Recovery to enter CWM Recovery Mode
# Go to mounts and storage and mount sdcard
# Copy the ZIP you downloaded to your sdcard and unmount (note: you can have the zip already on your sdcard from a card reader, from before or download it separately - this step is not crucial).
# Select install zip from sdcard
# Find the ROM.zip and install
# Reboot and remove Phone from USB (or it can already be disconnected - you can flash on the go...)
# After initial setup, reboot to get everything settled
hope this helps.
thanks very much mattfmartin and jsmccabe78 for the info.

I partitioned my SD in CWM and haven't experienced any problems (with Typhoon CM7) so I would guess you'll be fine

so if I do this:
2. PARTITION YOUR STORAGE CARD FOR A2SD ROMS (IF REQUIRED)
NOTE1: Setting up a partition on your Storage Card will allow A2SD compatable Roms to automatically install apps to this partition rather than using your phones internal memory. This is useful for people that have alot of apps to install and for people who want to flash a Sense Rom and wont have much internal memory left.
NOTE2: Once you create an A2SD partition on your Storage Card all information will be lost so make sure to backup everything to your pc so it can be copied back after. The accessible space on your Storage Card will be made smaller by the amount of the partition you set up so only make it as big as you need make it huge if you dont have many apps to install)
1. Boot into the Clockwork Mod menu
2. Go down to 'Advanced' and select (by pressing 'Call Button')
3. Select 'Partition SD Card'
4. Select Size of required partition not sure then 1024M is a good size)
5. Make ABSOLUTELY sure you want to continue and then select 0M Swap Size
Your Storage Card will now be partitioned with the size you selected.
ALL DATA ON YOUR STORAGE CARD WILL BE LOST!!
-------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
3. FLASHING A CWM (CLOCKWORK MOD) ROM
1. Connect your phone to your pc via the USB Cable
2. In the Clockwork Mod main menu select 'wipe data/factory reset' and then 'Yes' on the next screen
3. When the data wipe is complete, select 'install zip from sd card' in the main menu
4. Go down to 'choose zip from sdcard' and select
5. Scroll down to your CWM Rom (which you should have copied to the Root of your Storage Card) and select it
6. Select 'Yes' from the options and wait until you get a message saying 'Install from sdcard complete'
Note: You can repeat steps 3-5 if you have more zips to install such as gps data or screen mods
7. Once finished press the 'Back' button to get to the previous menu screen
8. Select 'reboot system now' to restart your phone and your Android Rom should boot
9. Once Android has booted and you have gone through the setup screens, LONG PRESS the 'End' button and select reboot to reboot your phone to avoid possible FC (Force Close) problems
then should be my EXT3 partition working normally with this ROM ? And Im not gonna have any problem with insufficient internal memory ?

Yep First make a backup of your ROM in CWM, then copy the contents of your SD card to your PC. This is extremely important as partitioning WILL delete all SD contents. Copy the contents of the SD card back over and I think you would be fine as none of the internal stuff would be deleted. Boot up and see how it works. If everything is deleted, simply restore the backup and you're done

Version 1.3 still has a few bugs, you can read about them in the given topic. I'm testing this rom on Saturdays and until then I'm very satisfied

Im afraid that this instructions is working only with typhoon CM7 but not with NexusHD2-ICS-CM9. There is whole thread on how to run ext3 partition in this build but it is too complicated for me.
I just need simple instructions and active download links for programs I need to installation but I think I could just dream about it.
Typhoon CM7 clockwork recovery 3.0.2.5 150MB/5Mb download link is dead. 50 Percent of links on this forum are dead. I tried to download it by using google but it was futile.
Where could I get it ?
I have written a simple guide that may help you.

I dont know the Stock MIUI ROM but If everything is working and there is not any problem with internal memory then Im gonna try it
it is really hard to choose the suitable NAND ROM for HD2 because there is too wide selection so it is hard for newbie to pick one.
I had american android 2.3.7 SD and I liked it but problem was battery drain.

Stick to MIUI and CM7 ROMs in my opinion, Sense isn't fast (despite what people say, the Sense UI is a RAM hog and doesn't flow very well, even on the Desire S that my brother has) and these have no issues (camcorder on Sense is buggy). Battery drain will be far better on any NAND ROM compared to an SD ROM, and as long as you partition your SD card there won't be any issues with storage.

I would like this one because of the good install instructions
Witch CLK should I install ? 1,4 or 1,5? Witch one do you recommend ?
Awesome...
Dear All,
Many thanks for your links and suggestions.
This is what made me a happy man. May be it is useful for others.
1) Downgraded from HSPL 3.03 to HSPL 2.08 from HSLP4.exe
Step by Step Guide
Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
It will load into ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen bootloader.
You can see your HTC HD2 SPL version there.
Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
Serial status will be turned into USB.
At PC, right click on HSPL4.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.
Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
Follow onscreen instructions to install.
Do make sure that you select 2.08.HSPL.
After installation, you should see ‘We hacked it!’ on your phone.
That’s all.
2) Download Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14 from http://www.wupload.in/file/2649215467/Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14.rar
and
Install RADIO from here http://android.dkszone.net/install-radio-rom-htc-hd2-flash-radio-rom

FLASH CLOCKWORK MOD TO YOUR DEVICE from Recovery_250M_system_10M_cache_v3.0.2.4_.zip
NOTE: There are 3 CWM images attached at the bottom of this thread. You only need to install 1 of the images depending on what type of Android Rom you want to flash. The larger the size of the CWM Partition the less space there will be left for programs installed to your phone.
150MB Partition - For lite Roms without Sense such as CM7. Gives most internal space on your phone for apps
250MB Partition - Standard size Roms or squashed Sense Roms
400MB Partition - Full Sense Roms. Hardly any internal space for apps. 512ROM Leo's will need A2SD external partition set up
If you arent sure which size you need then check the first few posts of the Rom you want to flash as it will usually tell you which size partition it needs.
1. Download the CWM Partition you require and extract it to a new folder on your pc
2. Connect your phone to your pc via the USB Cable
3. Restart your phone and HOLD DOWN the 'End Button' (far right) until the Magldr Menu appears
4. Keep pressing the 'Volume Down' button to goto Option 5. USB Flasher and press the 'Call Button' (far left) to select it
*The screen should now say Wait USB...USB*
5. Run DAF.exe (Right Click and Run As Administrator if you have Vista or Windows 7) in the folder you extracted the image to and follow the intructions on your pc to start flashing
6. After flashing the phone will reboot. HOLD DOWN the 'End Button' (far right) until the Magldr Menu appears
To start Clockwork Mod keep pressing the 'Volume Down' button to goto Option 8. AD Recovery and press the 'Call Button' (far left) to select it
NOTE: If the Rom demands a different size CWM then you can download any of the attached sizes, then extract the contents and edit the flash.cfg file with Notepad. Change the sizes on the following lines depending on what you need:
system ya ***M (partition size)
cache ya **M (cache size)
4) FLASHING A CWM (CLOCKWORK MOD) ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354267
First NexusHD2-IceCreamSandwich_Beta10.zip
and then
NexusHD2-Kernel_2.6.32.15_tytung_ics_r1-MAGLDR-update.zip

8. Select 'reboot system now' to restart your phone and your Android Rom should boot
9. Once Android has booted and you have gone through the setup screens, LONG PRESS the 'End' button and select reboot to reboot your phone to avoid possible FC (Force Close) problems
NOTE: The first boot of your Rom will take alot longer than subsequent boots so leave it and give it time (15 minutes max)
IMPORTANT: If anything goes wrong, start fresh (DELETE EVERYTHING) from Wipe HTC HD2 Toolkit (HD2ToolKit4.2.0.1.zip)

There are few issues (faced till now) with NexusHD2-IceCreamSandwich_Beta10 (Android 4.0.3) ROM
- No Video
- No Signature feature in Exchange Mail
- Camera hangs
- Gallery hangs sometimes. -- Solved by installing Real Player and opening images from there.
- Backlight seems dim even when full brightness is selected.
- I could not find an option to disable vibration in keyboard. -- Solved by "Go Keyboard" from Market. So far it is working perfectly.
Other than these, I am in love with my HD2.
Please suggest if there are any solutions to these.

I do not use Google Maps. But I turned down for a while and act as they should.
As for the camera - the camera is working, but I have a problem with the video recording. However, this is the solution to the first page of ROM which I sent to you.
- FB - I read about this problem but to be honest, this synchronization is not necessary to me.
I did not use this site. I checked only the most popular threads on xda. And I also just looked Android 4.0

LEO is still the king!
Thanks a lot, securecrt and Xylograph!
I What is "NativeSD"
As the name shows, the SD card now do what native storage do. In other words, we can leave the nand and done almost everthing with one SD card!
II Benifits of NativeSD
1. Common benifits
Don't need to worry about bad blocks in nand, no need to adjust system size。
2. On premise of large storage of SD card
The partition used as native storage can be very large duo to your SD card(<32GB).
Muilt ROMs(wm,wp,androids)
3. On premise of fast SD card
Faster Read/Write speed than NAND ROMs,better。
III Install ROM
1. Prepare
*1)Android rom that support NativeSD, cellphone(LEO,with SD card, battery>50%), computer,cable,4EXT recovery
*2)Backup all your data on SD card(if you want to keep it).
2.magldr users
1)This is the case that you download the SD version of 4EXT recovery.
copy the unziped files to you fold "a" in your SD card.("a" is just a sign, can be any name, just make sure the folder is in the root directory of SD card)Notice: please make sure these files are in the root directory of "a",not any sub folder:clcad.exe,haret.exe,initrd.gz,startup.txt,zImage
2)This is the case that you download and already install the nand version of 4EXT recovery.
2.1Boot to recovery
if 1)
2.1.2 hold the red button while boot, when the menu of magldr shows, choose
10.Services,then 1.BootSettings,and then 3.AD SD Dir,loacate to your folder "a",press green button to confirm.

2.2.5 choose the size of swap partion,I recommend 0(choose skipe).
2.2.6 choose Yes - I'm sure,waitting for the progress to finish。
2.2.7 when back to recovery main page
if 1)
choose power menu, then choose Reboot ,and hold the red button while boot, when the menu of magldr shows, connect the phone to your computer, choose 4.USB MassStg,repeat 1),2.1.1,2.2.2 and 2.3.7.2

Can't boot
I made EXT4 partition, and instaled Magldr, and than instaled WM ROM, and copied EXT4SD recovery (first one on list), extract, and use folder '4EXTRecovery' and paste to SD card root, and now, what to do(?) how to get in recovery mod, or, how to get to Magldr menu? Please help
NativeSD without flashing MAGLDR or cLK?
my background:
I use Android ICS and MIUI on Leo HTC HD2, booting from SD-Card using haret.exe in WM6.5.
I can't flash my device with MAGLDR or cLK, because it's leased and I have to return it back in some time with the original WM6.5.
Now my question:
Can I use native SD instead of "standart SD", because I hope it's faster, wihthout flashing any custom boot loader and destroing the original OS?
If I got it right, flashing a MAGLDR or cLK erases the complete device (except of HSPL and radio), right?
The only thing I dared to do before, was to flash the HSPL and a Radio Update, because this didn't touched the WM6.5.
I came so far to create a EXT4 and a FAT32 partitions on my SD-Card (32MB, Class 10) with "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6". Then I downloaded the 4EXT Recovery and booted it from WM6.5 with haret.exe, but now I'm stucked.
All I got is, the 4EXT Recovery do the same job as this MiniTool. It makes partitions on my SD-Card.
I planed to install NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.1 ROM as NativeSD, but I'm afraid I can't do this without flashing the MAGLDR or cLK and erasing the WM6.5
Any help?
thanks for the guide

OK, I helped myself. Thanks!
Partitioned the SD-Card with 4EXT-Recovery again. Created 2 EXT4 partitions 2 GB each, the rest (25 GB) goes for the FAT32 partition.
Then installed the "NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.1 ROM".ZIP (was an AROMA installer) from FAT32 partition and it worked!
Altough it's all very slow and the second EXT4 partition is unused. don't know why the recovery aked my to create one.
"I What is "NativeSD"
As the name shows, the SD card now do what native storage do. In other words, we can leave the nand and done almost everthing with one SD card!"
I'm REALLY new here so this might be a naive question but does that mean we'll be able to run WM 6.5 and WP 7 in a dual boot configuration now? From what I've heard they can only be installed on the HD2's NAND leaving room for either or, but since you say that NativeSD can do whatever the native storage does I thought it might be possible to run them direct off the SD?
Thank you for this guide.

SD-EXT Size -1mb

Hello
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126053&page=1 I i tried setup that rom on my hd2 but i have problem. First I setup magldr and i did 384mb recovery. After I partioned my sd card with mini tool partition wizard. 32kb cluster with 6,5gb fat32 and 1gb default cluster ext 4. I coppied rom file on my sd card and i entered to ad recorvery>choose zip from sd card and on that page sd card size looks 6593mb but sd ext size is -1. What's wrong and how I fix it? And i didn't see anywhere on topic but did I need use 4extrecorvery etc. another file on sd card? I use only task29 magldr, 384mb recorvery. Sorry for my bad english but i hope you understand me. Thanks all.
Did you set both partitions as Primary when creating them?

Recovery or system? System should be 384. Recovery should be 6mb for ext4recovery, 8mb for TWRP (which I recommend).

You can also use TWRP Extended. It should be better choice than ext4recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120297
Do you plan to use only Android or dual boot with WM6.5/WP7?
If you're going android only way you may try also CLK instead of MAGLDR - it makes repartitioning NAND easier
Using this file you will get flashable img file (just put in in you sd card and hold vol- during powering) with CLK and TWRP Extendend.

Good!
Now, you are in TWRP menu.
1) First, go to reboot (TWRP is touch based) and select bootloader. Phone will reboot to bootloader (clk).
2) Select (navigate via vol+ and vol-, enter the menu by pressing "green" phone) SETTINGS, than RESIZE PARTITION
3) Select SYSTEM and set size to 390.
4) Go back using back arrow button, select COMMIT CHANGES and APPLY
5) Press back arrow button to return to menu and select RECOVERY
Now, you are properly partitioned and back in recovery (TWRP).
6) Go to ADVANCED -> PARTITION SD CARD. Check your partitions. First one (SD card) should be VFAT. Second one is SD-Ext. Check SD-Ext size. Should read: 1024 MB or something similar If it is so, click arrow in lower left corner of screen. No you are back on home screen.
7) Select INSTALL. In file manager select zip file with rom you want to install. Installer will start. elect DATA ON EXT type of install (should be best choice for you). Remember to select PPP type of connection if asked.
8) When installer will finish, reboot. Your phone should boot straight to android.
