Hello,
I'd like to use my Ameo with "vertical" screen when I'm travelling and horizontal when Keyboard is attached in the office.
However, I have to switch back to vertical always manually once the keyboard was attached.
Is there a possibility to have the screen automatically always vertical without keyboard and horizontal when keyboard is attached ?
Dieter
Im looking for a similar functionaltiy.
Me to, this would be so useful.
you don't have to do it automatically, it is easy to switch the comm manager physical button to the rotate screen functionality- every time you touch the button the screen rotates - fantastic
i think the point was though that we use the device in portrait and only when we attach the keyboard it flips, and in a ideal world when we remove the keybaord we wanted it to go back to portrait as that is what we always use. pressing a button is easy but not quite prefect.
As an alternative to using the physical button (4 modes of rotation, the original only has 3 modes):

What does this CAB do? Would you mind posting a screenshot if possible?
Basically it's a screen rotator (just like the one that comes built-in with our Athena). The difference is that you have a better control of setting its behaviour through the Settings tab).
With the built-in rotator, I have to tap it twice to revert back to my potrait orientation from landscape. With this, I only has to tap it once (set it to Clockwise).

or you can just use iLuncher, it does exactly the same, it's a built in shortcut for iLuncher. one click for rotate, and one click to rotate back.
AWESOME! and thanks.

Thanks for the utility. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for...well not exactly, would be nice if it would go to Portrait when the keyboard is detached and back when it's reattached...but after further consideration it would be annoying if it did it automatically because i don't always want this to happen. Took me a little while to find the 'Advanced/Icon Settings' area...lack of sleep. I was looking for something that would go between Portrait and Landscape without rotating all the way around. I've set it up for "Right or Portrait" and this is exactly what I wanted, a type of toggle between the two modes. Thanks for posting this for us.
I'm lousy at explaining the way thing works. But I'm very happy to know you understand after trying the program yourself. A little apps with big function for people who like to switch back to potrait orientation.

you're my hero. thx.
i've been looking all over the net to find out how to get screen rotate into my advantages' taskbar (nothing worked, no tweaks, nothing).
works perfectly now. thx so much.
the thing that would make my taskbar perfect is a way to get the battery symbol INCLUDING link to the battery settings in it.
anyone an idea? i tried several tweaks, one worked but only showed the icon without any link. the others didn't work at all, dunno why.
You can tie this to a hardware button
This has been used on this forum for over 2 years. Someone may find it useful. Not "automatic" like asked for.
Install the cab file from your device and go into settings and set as one of the start menu items and 2 clicks give you a rotation and back, not round in circles like stock.
When you bind to a hardware button, one click rotates, another returns

Thanks. At last I can assign screen rotation to my hardware button. Good one to accompany the one I uploaded.

bug report...
Found a bug. On my Advantage, the camera stopped working in Landscape mode. May or may not be attributed to the screen rotate cab. A simple fix is to go to Portrait mode and start the camera from there. It could also be related to the VGA software but not sure. I'm glad I found a quick and easy work around because I didn't feel like hard resetting yet again.
Update: Found a work around. I wasn't going to hard reset. While playing around I noticed that if I switched to portrait mode and opened the camera, it would come up properly. Just won't do it if I try to open the camera while in landscape. Weird bug but I can live with it.

Did you assign screen rotation the the camera hardware button?
Hey sorry if this is repost, havent seem to find an answer. I recently installed SPC Pocket plus 4, just to try it out. But now my screen rotates the opposite (wrong direction). When you open keyboard it rotates normal but when you use the designated button, or go into screen orientation settings its rotates the wrong way. How do I get to go back to normal??? Ive uninstalled, soft reset...Im trying to avoid a hard reset.
I also thought I'd install pocket plus 4 - it jacked my phone pretty bad. One of the things that went wrong was the screen rotation like you're talking about. I ended up flashing to the r2a at that point, and decided never to install it again.
Wish I had a fix/suggestion for you, sorry.
Was a while ago i used it. But i think you can change rotation from 90 degrees to 270 in the settings.
i have pocket plus installed in my phone too...
just use the advance config to change screen rotation to 270. Everything is fine again
Awesome, thanks guys, I will try that out.

Yea you have that option . This will fix it.
I have a very weird issue...
Recently noticed my i9000 wouldn't auto rotate anymore in apps like galery, home screen, browser, etc. The accelerometer seems to work fine though (using apps like bubble and the sensor test screen).
Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? Just reflashed to JM1 new (from samsung firmwares, couldn't seem to get it through KIES) but that doesn't help.
The fact that the accelerometer works in labyrinth, bubble, sensortest makes me think it is not defective but something else is wrong... Any clues what this could be?
Will try to flash once more later today I guess.
Well it shouldn't rotate in the home screen unless you're on an alternate launcher like LauncherPro, which from the description you're giving sounds like it would still work with autorotation.
In settings is autorotation enabled, or has it become switched off somehow (possibly when you flashed the phone?)

You're right, using launcherpro...
I ended up reflashing the phone again and all seems to work now. Didn't restore system settings this time (combination of using titanium and mybackup pro) so perhaps something went wrong there?
Will look out for that setting next time this occurs, didn;t notice it when browsing through the settings :/
Thanks for the quick reply though!
Hi
I would post this in the Dev post for the ROM but i cant because i have under 10 posts
I have been using xT4Z1N4TRx'S ROM since beta4 and its always worked as he has outlined in the notes
but now when i installed the V1.0 (after a full wipe) the keyboard back-light doesn't go on anymore as well
as it quickly flips from portrait to landscape and then to portrait again in a quick moment where before
having the KB out forced the screen to landscape unless the app didn't handle it
I just wanted to know if anyone else has the problem or is it just me and my noobiness when i installed it?
thanks

that's one of the bugs in sensewich the keyboard backlight really doesn't light at the moment give Taz some time and maybe hell fix it in his next update
i've had AOKP build 4 flashed on my Nexus 7 since it was released on Sept.30.
all of a sudden yesterday, i noticed that nothing would allow me to change the screen orientation. i checked and double checked, i have that setting enabled.
for example, if i'm in portrait mode on the home screen, open up Chrome, i can not change the orientation to landscape.
but, if i launch a game, where it forces the orientation to landscape, i am now stuck in landscape mode. if i open up Chrome, i can't change it to portrait.
i've tried clearing data and cache of Nova Launcher. tried to lock down orientation then enable it. but nothing is working.
has anyone come across something like this before?

My Advice, try the re-calibration thing, lay it flat on a desk and calibrate it.
Ensure the lock is enabled, and then try again.
If this doesn't help, I read somewhere a while back that this works, but I don't get how:
lay the phone flat on a table, spin it 3 times. Put it on it's side, spin it 3 times. Hold it up on one end, spin it 3 times.
Weird but works (APPARANTLY)!
cool, thank you for the info, but i think i'm missing something. how do i calibrate it?
i have screen rotate locked/disabled on a flat surface. then i tried to unlock/enable it (while still on a flat surface), and it still doesn't rotate.

No you need to re-calibrate the gyro sensor, Im not with my tab so I can't quite remember where it is. Go to settings, and just have a look round, untill you can find the calibration of the gyro sensor.
No worries btw, glad to help
i still think i'm totally missing something. i can't find anything in the settings to re-calibrate it.
however, i did setup Z - Device Test and within the accelerometer and gyroscope testing shows that movement is being detected.
ok, something is totally messed up.
i just flashed Cyanogenmod monthly-2, did a full wipe cache and dalvik, and factory reset from CWM.
and my screen is still not rotating.
i'm totally clueless now.
I am on CM10 grouper latest build my home screen wont rotate, the apps and settings rotate only the home screen and apps drawer wont rotate.
Any ideas anyone?
Edit: Got it to work, I was using Nova launcher and by default its not enabled. Nova Launcher- Look and Feel - enable auto rotate. You need to enable both in system settings and nova settings. Silly of me :-\

Read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929790 it seems you need to extract some stock files to get it to work.

thank you for the link. i download a binary file from here..
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/drivers#grouper
but i have no idea what to do with it.
on a side note, i'm wondering why this all of a sudden stopped working tho? AOKP's build 4 was doing it before the release of 4.1.2, but then just stopped. i don't understand why i need to manually do something that was working from the beginning. especially within apps. i can't get the screen to rotate in Chrome, GMail, Reader, Twitter, etc. i can care less about the home screen rotation.
[UPDATE]
so i was downloading different apps- mainly games trying to test out the rotation to see if that is buggy too, and i came across this app...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsInphdXNhbi56ZGV2aWNldGVzdCJd
with this, i was able to test the Gyroscope and Accelerometer sensors and i noticed the blue axis (z-axis?) was not moving at all.
i then gave a few door knocks on the back plate, and all of a sudden the z-axis jumps to the correct view.
somehow it got stuck in place, but it seems to be working now. very odd. i've never dropped it. don't know how this could have happened.

Well first of all stop banging on it, it has nothing to do with that. I've noticed there was something either added or removed from AOSP that causes this after the 4.1.2 update last week. Most people who are compiling locally probably noticed this... any others that have it working are just proof of the excessive kanging nowadays... since they're all probably a kang of AOKP or CM (who of which I'm sure identified it and corrected it in their git).
I haven't had time to look into it yet but I'd assume its related to Launcher2.apk. Look in Launcher2 in the AndroidManifest.xml and see if there's a line with something like:
android:screenOrientation="nosensor"
Click to collapse
...you want that to be set to either "sensor" or "user"... I cant recall right now.
Did you try editing the build.prop file yet? If it is in fact related to the sensors then I dont think this will correct it anyway, but it's worth a shot. Go to your /system dir and mount is r/w, edit build.prop by adding this to the very end, on its own line:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
Click to collapse
...save that, close it, then reboot and see what ya got. If it doesn't work then you know its Launcher2 not enabling the sensors. I'll post again once I look at it and fix it.

thanks for all the info.
i'm not the type to mess with the files. but as i mentioned, i wasn't on 4.1.2 yet when this started happening. AOKP build 4 was based on 4.1 or 4.1.1. and would it be possible for a file to make the z-axis jarred in one direction? then when placing some force to the back of the device jump it back in place?
i haven't had any issues since then. i am now able to rotate the screen at will.

I'm having this problem now too. Just in the last 2 days.
I have a completely stock 2013 N7. It gets stuck in an orientation, and locked there. I have checked all the settings, and auto rotate is on.
I downloaded the Android Sensor Box, and something is fishy with the orientation hardware. One axis of the sensor is locked to one side and won't move.
