Hello,
I'd like to use my Ameo with "vertical" screen when I'm travelling and horizontal when Keyboard is attached in the office.
However, I have to switch back to vertical always manually once the keyboard was attached.
Is there a possibility to have the screen automatically always vertical without keyboard and horizontal when keyboard is attached ?
Dieter
Im looking for a similar functionaltiy.
Me to, this would be so useful.
you don't have to do it automatically, it is easy to switch the comm manager physical button to the rotate screen functionality- every time you touch the button the screen rotates - fantastic
i think the point was though that we use the device in portrait and only when we attach the keyboard it flips, and in a ideal world when we remove the keybaord we wanted it to go back to portrait as that is what we always use. pressing a button is easy but not quite prefect.
As an alternative to using the physical button (4 modes of rotation, the original only has 3 modes):

What does this CAB do? Would you mind posting a screenshot if possible?
Basically it's a screen rotator (just like the one that comes built-in with our Athena). The difference is that you have a better control of setting its behaviour through the Settings tab).
With the built-in rotator, I have to tap it twice to revert back to my potrait orientation from landscape. With this, I only has to tap it once (set it to Clockwise).

or you can just use iLuncher, it does exactly the same, it's a built in shortcut for iLuncher. one click for rotate, and one click to rotate back.
AWESOME! and thanks.

Thanks for the utility. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for...well not exactly, would be nice if it would go to Portrait when the keyboard is detached and back when it's reattached...but after further consideration it would be annoying if it did it automatically because i don't always want this to happen. Took me a little while to find the 'Advanced/Icon Settings' area...lack of sleep. I was looking for something that would go between Portrait and Landscape without rotating all the way around. I've set it up for "Right or Portrait" and this is exactly what I wanted, a type of toggle between the two modes. Thanks for posting this for us.
I'm lousy at explaining the way thing works. But I'm very happy to know you understand after trying the program yourself. A little apps with big function for people who like to switch back to potrait orientation.

you're my hero. thx.
i've been looking all over the net to find out how to get screen rotate into my advantages' taskbar (nothing worked, no tweaks, nothing).
works perfectly now. thx so much.
the thing that would make my taskbar perfect is a way to get the battery symbol INCLUDING link to the battery settings in it.
anyone an idea? i tried several tweaks, one worked but only showed the icon without any link. the others didn't work at all, dunno why.
You can tie this to a hardware button
This has been used on this forum for over 2 years. Someone may find it useful. Not "automatic" like asked for.
Install the cab file from your device and go into settings and set as one of the start menu items and 2 clicks give you a rotation and back, not round in circles like stock.
When you bind to a hardware button, one click rotates, another returns

bug report...
Found a bug. On my Advantage, the camera stopped working in Landscape mode. May or may not be attributed to the screen rotate cab. A simple fix is to go to Portrait mode and start the camera from there. It could also be related to the VGA software but not sure. I'm glad I found a quick and easy work around because I didn't feel like hard resetting yet again.
Update: Found a work around. I wasn't going to hard reset. While playing around I noticed that if I switched to portrait mode and opened the camera, it would come up properly. Just won't do it if I try to open the camera while in landscape. Weird bug but I can live with it.

There is a fix here - well at least till you soft reset again. I can confirm it works on my wizard.
I suppose its possible to start camera each time you soft reset - link in windows\startup so that the device is always in landscape. Not the best solution but.....

This is the soloution you described:
-----------
Start the camera application which puts the phone in landscape mode. Then use a 3rd party utility like "Close-All" or maybe even the native task manager (can't remember exactly) to "kill" the camera app. As long as you kill the camera app without using it's "x" or exiting normally, the device will stay in landscape mode. It stays this way if you open/close the keyboard. It will return to normal mode if you re-open the camera and close it normally, or soft reset the device.
-----------
I tried this on my wizard. But couldn't get it working. I've tried closing the camera app with VJOKButt, VBAR and the native task manager. It stays in landscape mode until I close the keyboard next time. IE exactly the same behavoiur as when manually changing to landscape mode in settings.
May be this is due to all these programs close the camera app to nicely? Or can it be this isn't working on the latest AKU2 ROM?
Anyone got an idéa?

If you install O2 plus, it is in the posts. It has some usefull things like profiles etc. Also you can change the screen orientation with this.
But as soon as you open and close the keyboard it switches to normal again.
As far as I know the screen auto rotate ability (when keyboard open/close) case the device screen to have slow response. I like to disable this option to get better performance.
Hi all, I have exactly the same question.
I would like to leave landscape my whizard, even if I open and close the keyboard.
Is there any possibility to do this?
I'd like to always have my Titan in landscape mode, and I'd like it to stay that way even when I open and close the keyboard. My old Apache did the same annoying thing - you can switch to landscape mode in the Settings > System > Screen, but as soon as you open and close the keyboard it switches right back to portrait.
Surely there is SOME way to make the phone stay in landscape, right?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

theres a exe file out there called landscaper that allows the phone to always switch to landscape mode. When you wake the phone up or slide the keyboard the screen will change back to portrait but only briefly (you can set the amount of time in the options menu if you set it to 0 its pretty quick that it goes back to landscape). You will have to either put it in the start up folder or manually start the program each time after a soft reset. I personally just settled on mapping a hard key to rotate the screen and find this easier and quicker. Google Landscaper exe and Im sure you'll find it, if not PM me and I can send it to you. (dont think I can attach it here)

Putting it in your start up folder will solve the issue with the soft resets. If you play with the settings within this app you can set it to automatically revert to landscape when you open/close the keyboard, takes about 2 secs to switch and switch back but no invertvention is neccesary on your part once this feature is enabled.

Isnt there a registery hack or something that could accomplish this.. The HTC Tilt already has this function and it is basically the same design.
I am a text addict and my fingers move faster then the phone... It would seem that there should be a way to override the hardware switch on the keyboard.
I am not familiar enough with the registery to finger this out... but if someone out there is familiar with the registery...

Hi!
I just got the HTC Touch HD a couple of days ago.
Just wondering how to make the screen rotate on the HTC Touch HD in landscape mode.
Can anyone guide me on how to get the screen to rotate please?
download gyrator 2
also, use the search
Get a registry editor, then: HKLM - System - GDI - Rotation - HideOrientationUI (change from 1 to 0)
And yes.....you the search function.....it´s all been discussed before.......like here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448142
Hi,
Great information, thank you very much ! I have successfully 'activated' this extra option with the use of Total Commander's built-in Registry Editor (another excellent find on this site ).
It is a great way to get a feel for what programms look like in Landscape Mode, since I haven't (yet) installed any Auto-Rotate programms.
Now I'd like to find a way to make accessing this Setting easier/faster because everytime you go back to a TouchFlo 3D screen the Device changes back to Portrait-mode. Back to browsing the forum; am getting my HD set-up the way I like it...one step at a time...

I understand popular alternatives are Gyrator 2 or Mobile Magic
I myself would like to be able to rotate the screen manually only. After editing the Registry as per the above description this is now possible on my Touch HD.
This however takes a lot of clicks so I hope to find a way to assign this option to either a Start Menu Shortcut or a long-press Hotkey. I think I stumbled across a post regarding this issue in one of my many hours reading through this forum and its Wiki. I didn't pay much attention to it at the time so I'll have to try and find that information again...

I found this little utility, it opens a pop-up window that rotates the screen and gives you the option of which position you want. I have used AEPlus button mapper to assign it to the "volume up" button. It works great, but the only thing is....don't try to rotate the TouchFlo3d windows, it doesn't like that at all. I think that is why the HD doesn't auto-rotate yet, TF3d can't take it. Start the app that you want to use, then activate the "Screen Rotate" utility.

yeah, thanks, that's where I got it from in the end, but it took until th 9th google search result to find that website and thus a working download location! That's rediculous for a freeware application!
Amusing thing is, I went to assign this to a button using AE Button Plus, and it turns out there's already an option in that program to assign buttons to "rotate screen" and "rotate screen clockwize" (american-sic) missed it before due to not looking for it specifically at the time!
Which screens are TF3d?
Is that the home screen (when tf3d is enabled)?

I can get the phone screen to go landscape with the rotate app in AEBplus, but if I'm in landscape in another app and switch to the phone app, it goes back to portrait. Maybe the problem is the HTC phone screen, the generic WM probably works ok.
Matterhorn,
Actually I turned off TF3D from the Home menu in settings.
It still resets to portrait after accessing phone menu.

This is the deal breaker for me.
The lack of keyboard will be better if I can make the screen horizontal as I do on my TyTn II. My screen is permanently on ladnscape mode.
As it looks better and there is no lag when switching.
Possible on the HTC Touch HD?
From the manual I read online and playing with it at the store I think its not possible.
Any info?
Thanks
Solution:
To remain constantly in landscapde mode:
You will need to rotate the screen and switch the phone dialer menu(screen) from the default HTC one to the WM dialer menu.
There are plenty of ways to rotate the screen and one way to switch from HTC dialer to WM.
N.B: You must disable the HTC Touch Flow 3d home menu by deselecting from the Home menu in settings.
To change to WM dialer from HTC dialer:
1- Download and install HD Tweak (thanks montecristoff & co.)
2- Use it to change the dialer to WM dialer.
To rotate the screen:
* Search on the forum for the registry tweak to make the option of selecting either landscape or portrait appear. Then go to Start/Settings/Screen and select landscape.
or
Use software like pbar or quickmenu or spb pocketplus to rotate the screen. Obviously pbar or quickmenu are preferable because they are free and very useful (thanks creators).
Cons:
1- With the WM dialer, you loose the ability to make video calls. Its not forever though, you can easily switch to HTC dialer from the HD tweak app.
2- You fore go the HTC Touch Flow 3d home screen. You will probably need to get SPB mobile shell or similar.
Pros:
1- Screen looks damn nice in landscape mode, or as I like to refer to it as wide screen!
2- More text in a more natural perspective. Things dont look so narrow.
3- Typing onscreen is much easier because the virtual keyboard is larger/wider.
I prefer this way because I did not like the way my previous TyTn II (Kaiser) lagged when it rotated from portrait to landscape every time I opened/used the physical keyboard. So I decided to keep it landscape. Turned out to be the best(my) option.
No landscape mode is supported! only TF3D today plugin doesnt support landscape!
so you will not have a problem!
Most software will work in landscape mode - see the FAQ:
"How do I make all applications turn when I rotate the HD?
Not all applications respond to the g-sensor (screen rotation)
There are a number of applications (eg. Gyrator2, GSen) that can help work around this issue. "
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlackstoneFAQ
Not sure which applications work in landscape and which don't though, but you'd get most of them in landscape.
The Keyboard is pretty usable in portrait with such a big screen too.
I want it in landscape mode permanently!
Not with some applications...
Well u can rotate today screen aswell but it wont look as nice.Tobad it rotates back though when u return from an applicaiton to the today screen.
But that should be fixable. Just try to rotate today via the built in rotate setting and u will se how it looks.
It looks a little weird on the right side of the screenshot but it disapperas immedeiately.
I use SPB mobile shell & SPB diary combined as my today screen.
So I wont be using HTC's today screen at all.

thanks a lot.
I could not find the tweak to enable landscape mode.
Something else you could try - install AE Button Plus, map one of the buttons (e.g. volume up) to "rotate screen", rotate the screen to the orientation you want, then re-load AE Button Plus and un-map the button. That should do it? I'm not entirely sure whether this will stick when you turn off or soft reset your device though...
Alternatively you could do what I have done, and map a long press of volume up to rotate one direction and long press of volume down to rotate the other way. There are occasions where portrait mode is better, others where landscape is better. Also means that volume controls still work as intended when pressed normally. I find gsen and gyrator a bit tempremental at times, so prefer having manual control over the rotation.
Even this will not cause proper rotation if your looking to stay in landscape. tf3d will not work in landscape without some sort of bodge from the diamond. I use my htc device in a car with landscape gps apps. I gave up on tf3d as maybe i don't need it because i've got voice commander. I set gyrator to switch to the phone app and rotate if the phone was landscape and happened to be on the manilla screen. I wanted the phone app to be landscape so i can see who i'm voice calling while in the car. this works, but if you switch to another app then back to the phone then the phone goes portrait and then only re shaking and landscaping the phone gets it to go landscape. Really I don't want to touch it when im driving. I guess I could set a voice command to rotate but I dont think its worth it. I also tried unhiding the landscape with a reg edit but once again the phone app re-portraits. Im now going to try a hreset and stoping the customize incase that affects the phone orientation if not im going a hunting a reg setting as maybe there is one that causes the phone app to portrait? I swear this was easier on my universal but i refuse to give up (and im kinda having fun )

Again, in either HD Tweak or Advance Config, there's a bit where you can check which phone dialer skin is used (I think HD Tweak) maybe if you try setting the phone dialer to the original WM 6.1 dialer instead of the HTC one it might not keep switching back to portrait? You won't be able to make video calls, but that may be something you don't mind losing... I know I never use it...
No thats fine, I have ugly friends

I believe he is woohoo'ing because if you switch from HTC dialer type to WM dialer type via HD Tweak (you do loose the ability to make a video call), it then no longer rotates back to portrait mode after you switched to landscape.
Prior, it would remain in portrait mode till you accessed the dialer screen, then for some reason it would rotate back to portrait mode.
Now with the WM dialer style, it stays permanently in landscape mode.
This is with TF3d disabled of course.

Use Long-Press of call button
You can assign a long press of your call button to put the phone in landscape - it's obviously not automatic but it works.
Start>settings>buttons> then choose <rotate screen>.
Only works in Manila 2+ (cooked) ROMS

Click to collapse
You can enable this option in HDTweak/Advanced Config too
I did it this way myself as I'm using the stock ROM at the moment.
One thing to note though is that TouchFlo doesn't support landscape so if you close an app in landscape mode (thereby going back to Today/TouchFlo) the picture will go a bit screwy before reverting back to portrait.
use gsen then configure it to use those apps only.
Edit: That's a great idea. Now I have a need to install it.
