Hey guys,I just discovered that something has appeared on the upper left corner of my DHD,thankfully over the screen(Look at the attached images).

It looks like the black whatever-the-hell-it-is behind the screen glass is broken at that point. From what I recall,I have only dropped it one time, but it was from like 40cm onto a wool carpet,so no damage there. The only "experience" that might have something to do with it is that my pal tried to punch me on the leg,and the bastard hit my pocket, where my phone was(the shock I was in was unbelievable! But his hand was aching for like 2 days! ).I cannot know where he hit it,but if it was the upper left corner, then this might be the answer.
I would have known earlier, but I only noticed that some days ago when I watched a movie on my phone in a dark room.In bright light it's not so easily seen.It is,however, annoying to see because it catches my eye(I can't help looking at it when I know it's there)and I am constantly afraid it might expand and cause a serious problem.
Given that there is always the chance it's a manufacturing defect, should I return it?I mean,it's not that big a problem, but it is a flaw in a rather flawless phone!
What would you guys do?Is it worth the trouble?I could always wait and see if it gets worse and get used to it on the way.
Any opinion/help welcome!
EDIT:I forgot to mention that it is only observable when the screen is on,so the light comes from within the device. That's what led me to the conclusion that it's an internal fracture.
Sorry mate but I really can't see **** from your photos. I think you really need to adjust the expose settings on the camera or just use a better camera to begin with... Happy to comment when I can see the problem
Same here man, would love to help but i can't see anything. Better pictures would help.
If some one hit me hard on my leg pfff... If some one hit me hard on my phone, he will be searching for his teeth now....
Jokes apart, it could well do some damage to the phone, it wasn't meant to sustain this abuse on the screen.
Take a better photo where you actually have some back light. I can't see jack in the photos.
I have this too, but to a lesser extent.I don't know what caused this but it was there when I got the phone. It's like a small dot of light leaking. You should take better pictures so we can see better.
At the very least use a paint program to circle what you're trying to show because I'm with the others above and can't see what you're trying to show at all.
Ok,you're all right, pictures are ****,but the only camera I had available atm was my Desire,so you can understand!
Anyway, will take better ones and upload them.Until then,if someone wants to search for the problem,it is a lit scratch-like thing on the upper left corner of the screen's black surrounding!

Well, his hand was in pain for two days and his head for like 5 minutes(second was obviously my work! ),so that's punishment enough I think!
Btw,to avoid misunderstandings, the punch hit the phone's back, probably around the speaker(can't be sure about that though),not the screen(which appears very sturdy btw, doesn't need protection).

Well, these shots are taken with my sister's Lumix,I circled the wtf and now I hope you can see it without problems!
Thanks for your replies guys!
It looks like the screen got loose from the main body of the phone a bit. Speaker is less or more on tho opposite side of that place. My best suggestion is it got ''loose'? Not sure if it's the right word. I doubt it's possible to fix it anywhere except at HTC service center man.
I think its the black finish inside is slightly off. I also think I have the same thing but never noticed it till I compared my display to your pics. Honestly, it does not look like a problem.

Weird, I had such a problem with my Galaxy S, which has Gorilla glass. It started small, but grew little by little. It even cornered! When you pressed the glass, it became clearer, indicating it was on the inner side of the phone.
My guess: some sort of cutting of the black mask damaged the surface and weakened it.
So I' ve bought a DHD and sent the SGS back for repair under warranty.

Well...Holy ****!I can't part with my DHD!Isn't it just better than everything else?
Fun aside,I think I'll leave it as is for now and sent it for warranty repair when I root it(so titanium backup saves everything for me ) or,even better, when I buy a new one. That is,unless it expands and becomes a problem!
Anyway,many thanks guys!

I think all the Desire HD have the same problem, and then I don't think it can be solved.
So we will have to live with that "wtf" ...
Excuse my English.
P.S : I'm in France.
You should replace it if you can.

Don't know if this is old news but I just have to speak out my joy. Got my phone back after replacing my case the second time. And finally they have redesigned the case. Hopfully there will be no more cracks on this spot anymore

what awful crack!...
Strange that the "new" redesigned case has date of manufacture -> 08w39 and the "old" cracked one is -> 08w44... Could it be that they knew it all the time that these cracks will be happening, but instead of mass recall the "cracky" cases they sold all of that saying "What will be will be...."

Thats because it is a sticker on the phone. Not the case.
somehow i dont think its the redesign issue, something else thats unknown must be the problem, my xperia date is 09W08 with the same design as the second pic, still no cracks...
Uh... where's the difference in the design? Can't really tell.
Had a crack in the same place, and now also have the "new" redesign case replacement.

No sharp corner in the new design. The first thing you learn to not have when you study design. Everyone learns that except the tossers at SE

yeah bro SE has the worst designs...
Does somebody have the old design on pic without the crack so it will be easier to see?
Edit: Fixed it. Nobody can miss the difference now.
if you look closely you can see the difference. the corner where the crack starts is different from the one without the crack. the corner is filleted (ie. rounded) where as the corner with the crack is pointed.
i was gonna wait before i send my x1 to get the housing replaced. i didn't see why people would send the phone in for repairs when SE haven't even come up with a redesigned housing yet and just end up getting cracks all over again. but now, it seems like a good time to do so. btw, i've counted a total of 8 cracks on my x1.

Good choice. This was my second time I had it on service for a cracked case and if you put it all togehter (had it on service three times) I have had my phone on service for 63 days. That's 2 months on a phone that isn't a year old yet.
time to repair
I have the problem where my phone won't charge unless it's turned off.
But now I also have the cracked case problem.... So I think it is time to repair.
I really love the phone... but at that price, I expect better quality. I just hope they don't keep it too long.

It is two pictures of two old xperia phones. One pic that i found on this forum and one that i shoot of mine, with the new case, in almost the same angel so it would be easy to see the difference.

You are a lucky man. Please tell my how you do it. Is your phone always lying on a pillow on your desk with a bluetooth headset connected to it? Have you not even once dropped it 2 decimeters onto a soft rug?

I have the old design.
I have dropped mine more than 10 times. 3 of them hard falls. Not a crack or a scratch on it. I use it all the time, in my pocket, on the desk, in my hand, etc.
Hi
I have been using my Xperia Play for 2 weeks and I have noticed that there is a gap between the gamepad and the screen (left side of the phone when in closed mode), which can be widened by lifting the screen. When the phone's closed the gap is around 1 mm but it can widen up to 2mm.
This causes the screen to shake (and sometimes click) and it's really irritating. Is it a problem of all phones or just mine ?
Well, that stupid protection won't allow me to post video...
I had the same problem with my old play. My new one is only 5days old and no gap yet. It is annoying because the phone would keep moving as a type
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
So did you send your old Play to the repair centre and they gave you a new one ?
Also, I heard that it is normal for all Plays so this is going to happen inevitably.
Mine is the same. I stuck a few mouse skates on the back of the screen to stabilize it a bit. Works o.k, but screen still has a slight wobble when closed.
The screen wobble is probably the only thing that I can fault with this phone, but I can live with it as long as it doesn't get worse.
Do those mouse skates scratch your gamepad ?
Any other ideas how to make it shake a bit less ?
Can sony ericsson cannot repair that, because I remember that it would not wobble that much ?
I sent my play in for a different issue. The gap is a minor problem that isn't worth fixing, I can live with it

I dont know if SE would repair it, but if it bothers you too much I guess you could always try to take it back.
I haven't noticed any scratches on the gamepad.
Here's a pic of the back of my play.

The two top skates were probably a bad idea as they are covering 2 screw hole covers/stickers which could peel off if I decide to take the skates off.
The skate just behind the home button is perfect and has stopped a lot of the wobble when i tap the screen or hit one of the face buttons.
This seems like something sony should have thought of beforehand. It seems all too obvious that this problem is going to happen to every xplay out there. The joints of the sliding mechanism can only be so strong.

The play isn't the first or only phone that slides. I don't have this problem. At least not yet but I'm guessing everyone will at some point.
Dude, the mouse skates idea. I just peeled two off of my old mouse and stuck them on the top back of the screen. Major improvement. Cheers for the tip
Wait, you put them on the top of the screen, just like in the photo ? And the wobbling stopped :> ?
Gotta get some mouse pads

It reduced wobbling, I put another two on at the bottom of the screen and it made the sliding motion a bit stiff. So I took them off.
They should have used a Z Hinge like on the N95 or Desire Z!
Just came up with my own makeshift method for the hinge issue. Only 10 days in and i was already crazy annoyed with how the screen would "give" when i was touching the screen or any of the navigation buttons (especially the back button). I didn't have any spare mice sitting around so i grabbed these things at target that you stick on the bottom of vases or coasters to protect your furnature from scratching (basically small stick on circles of various thicknesses and materials). I found one of a sufficient thickness and cut it down to a size that made sense and stuck it on the two corners of the controller. It still slides perfectly and has rid me of pretty much all problems. Additionally, it doesn't seem to get in the way of gaming. The pix will probably give you a better idea of what im talking about than my explanation.
Oh god this has been discussed over and over and over and over and over.. I even stopped worrying about my XPlay months ago..
I asked SE via facebook a month ago and here's what they have to say:

Its good to know that SE is aware of this and that the problem wont actually get worse. However it doesn't change the fact that the movement of the screen when typing or pressing the face buttons won't drive me up the wall. In the end though... I bought this phone for its built in game controller...small issues be damned
nice one Frogybloop..
It doesn't bother me in any way. Maybe it really depends on the user/owner. This is, after all, expected in almost all slider phones like my friend's trusty X1 -- it wobbles more than my XPlay. The screen part of my phone is still snugly fit to the edge and do not slide when I'm typing like others report. I can just feel the click it produces when the screen is pressed down when typing. I can live with that. Not a problem to me at all.
Hello all,
Last night I noticed a small white dot has appeared from nowhere right near the centre of my hd2's screen. Its definitely under the glass, it kind of looks like a dead pixel, but it still shows up even when the screen is off, would it do that if it were a dead pixel? what else might it be?
any info appreciated, im running pixel fixer on it right now.
I don't think this is a dead pixel, because that one would not show up when you turn off the screen as there is no more backlight when screen is turned off.

Hi Col888,
"Houston, you have a IFO-Problem"...
at the Airport i worked we called this FOD (foreign object damage). Little or big Objects we found for the Trashcan. You have a IFO ( identified Flying Object ) -not UFO- between your Gorilla-Glass and the LCD-Panel. Sometimes it´s a very tiny piece from the white StickyTape Cover-Foil during the assemble Process. Regulary invisible, because this Paper-Pieces are close to the Sticky-Tape under the Black Area. Sometimes it will release and move from alone during the complete Display...
The only way to remove this "IFO" is to remove the Digitizer and Blow this piece away. Maybe it will be help if you knock very gentle again the Glas, so it will be sliding out of the way.
If you still have warranty, you can send this to the HTC Support. They will remove that for free ( you will get a new HD2 or a New Touch/LCD Combo )...
Best Regards,
Micha
P.S. The Best IFO i ever had, was a dead tiny Asia-Fly between the Glas und LCD. This Jurrassic Park Fly traveled around the world to me and my VERY BIG ( looking at the Fly) EYES ;-)
Thanks for the replies, yes I think you're both right its not a dead pixel, it does look more like some foreign object thats stuck in there. Iv tried gently knocking the phone a bit but it hasnt moved as yet, will keep trying that tho.
I bought it 2nd hand so no warrenty as far as I know. The phone was in total mint condition until that IFO showed up.
Im a little tempted to open it up to remove it, but I'll probably destroy the phone if I try that lol.
Cheers.

Hi Col888,
2nd Hand....that explain maybe everything. I bet the "VOID" Seal on the screw under the Batt-Cover is broken, right ?! And when i look in my magic Blue HD2 Michael-Marbel i will bet ( 6 Pack Becks-Beer ) someone changed the Touchscreen before you buy this Phone. Dust and Dirt you don´t find often direct from HTC. But Dirt often when someone inside a regular dirty Room canged this Touchscreen at Home...
Check the Seal ( broken or not )? and if the Touch-GLAS is not INSIDE the Backcover ( you habe to feel the sharp Cover-Rim, the Glas has to be 0.2mm deeper then the Plastic-Rim ) this will be replaced by an "DIT-Dummy". If "yes", say "THANK YOU" to this guy for the free IFO-Bonus...LOL
Take a look to you Gorilla-Glas. It´s not easy to bring it after a Touch-Replacement deep -HTC-Original Like- back into the Backcover ) ?:

Even for me. This Touch-Replacement was the best i can do ( looks after that like HTC-Original ). Regular the Glas is higher and if its over the Top, someone fixed/replaced that...
CU,
Michael
P.S. If you have a Cheap Ultrasonic-Cleaning Device ( for Watches etc.p.p. ), put this HD2 dry on it for 2-3 Sec. Maybe the FREE GIFT will walk away....
Thanks for the info Michael,
If Im understanding you correctly, I dont think the LCD has been changed.
Under the batter cover 3 of the 4 screws still have stickers on them, 2 void stickers, and 1 plain white sticker. The last screw has no sticker.
The LCD screen seems to be positioned the same as it is in your pics, on all 4 corners. It feels like the screen is pushed very slightly into the case. The plastic rim is definitely higher than the LCD screen all round the edges.
I would take pics, but my post count isnt high enough yet.
I dont have any ultrasonic devices, otherwise I would definatly try that idea out.
Regards.
I think maybe the clear plastic on the camera was effecting my pictures. Well I hope so. LoL. It's not easy getting off especially the flash one. I did it carefully because I didn't want to scratch them. I guess if your pictures are fine then you can leave them on but damn Samsung you should put tabs on them so it's easy to take off. I would think all S6 Edges come like that. Mine is from T-Mobile. Darn you can't see it. I'll post a bigger picture.

See the white line in sky close to the bird way up in the sky? It goes from the top to the bottom. I noticed on 5 pictures and different angles.
Good call, i have always known about the stickers and remove them for customers usually (i sell phones for a living) but i didnt notice the flash one! gotta check it out now, thanks!
Thanks!!! I hadn't even noticed them.
Can you guys see in the sky what I'm talking about? If so do you think I might be right about the picture protector being the issue? Guess I should take more pictures now but stupid rain all week. Lol. Just want to find out if I have a issue with my camera.
A girl with nails might help getting the stickers off. LoL. I think I just lightly put my finger on the corner of the bottom of the flash and moved slightly up. I then noticed that it was on. I wonder if it's on my Note 4. LoL
The first thing I did is taking them off with the plastic cover of the phone
Thanks for the headsup + :good:
I"ll be damn, I missed those also, thanks.
I used a piece of strong packing tape to get them off. Just touched and pulled. Much easier than trying to get your fingernail in there and risking a scratch.

You can still scratch the lens regardless if it's on or not. Having a $700+ phone I've very careful with it. Plus a case could help raise it a tad so the camera isn't flush.

there's another one on the left side but it doesn't appear in this pic, well i know that u guys will think it's reflection but trust me it's not!, i watched some teardown videos and those parts don't even exist!, the home button doesn't have those part on top of it! so what am i seeing? my only concern is the waterproofness
is this normal? anyone??
I don't have a magnifying glass handy, but I can't see anything like that with the naked eye.

To me it looks not normal. My S7 edge does not have it.

if u have them u should be able to see them only if u look with a certain angle and with direct light, please check them for me, don't look vertically, look with phone's head towards floor about 30 degrees

hmm then i might have a faulty device unfortunately i can't replace it as in my country they only allow 1 replacement and i already replaced one , do u think this issue may lead to water leak?

I really don't know. Only one replacement? What a strange warranty policy
That's not normal. I don't have it on mine, and I have never seen it on any other S7 or S7 Edge. Only one replacement? Where are you from?

and what else could it be ! EGYPT of course, the country of absolute madness and none sense , well to be honest it doesn't look that clear when i hold the phone in my hand i mean it's not easy to notice those part, it takes me some time and a lot of phone tilting to find them, now here's a screenshot i toke from a teardown video,it shows 2 small holes on top of a golden bottom ( which i guess the shiny part in the first pic)
so i don't know whether or not iam supposed to be able to notice those holes, all i can say is that the button is quiet wiggly just a little bit and when i slightly slide it to the top, those holes become a little harder to notice, anyway i couldn't resist not taking the phone for a swim lesson, so i submerged it in water 2 times for about 3 mins and i even had the balls to press the button and even hold it! and thankfully no damage was done, the only thing i noticed was some small air bubbles around the button when i pressed it under water, dunno if this normal!

Well all I can say is that I do not have those two "thingys" on the home button, and I have never seen it before on other Edges too, so it's probably a production error where something or someone has been a little hasty with that part. I guess you could contact Samsung and just ask if there are any chances of getting a production error fixed, which you can even document with photos. If that fails, then I don't know. Contact a service center and ask how much it'll cost to get that button corrected or swapped?
