New design on case. Cracks no more!!! - XPERIA X1 General

Don't know if this is old news but I just have to speak out my joy. Got my phone back after replacing my case the second time. And finally they have redesigned the case. Hopfully there will be no more cracks on this spot anymore

what awful crack!...

Strange that the "new" redesigned case has date of manufacture -> 08w39 and the "old" cracked one is -> 08w44... Could it be that they knew it all the time that these cracks will be happening, but instead of mass recall the "cracky" cases they sold all of that saying "What will be will be...."

Thats because it is a sticker on the phone. Not the case.

somehow i dont think its the redesign issue, something else thats unknown must be the problem, my xperia date is 09W08 with the same design as the second pic, still no cracks...

Uh... where's the difference in the design? Can't really tell.

Had a crack in the same place, and now also have the "new" redesign case replacement.

No sharp corner in the new design. The first thing you learn to not have when you study design. Everyone learns that except the tossers at SE

yeah bro SE has the worst designs...

Does somebody have the old design on pic without the crack so it will be easier to see?
Edit: Fixed it. Nobody can miss the difference now.

if you look closely you can see the difference. the corner where the crack starts is different from the one without the crack. the corner is filleted (ie. rounded) where as the corner with the crack is pointed.
i was gonna wait before i send my x1 to get the housing replaced. i didn't see why people would send the phone in for repairs when SE haven't even come up with a redesigned housing yet and just end up getting cracks all over again. but now, it seems like a good time to do so. btw, i've counted a total of 8 cracks on my x1.

Good choice. This was my second time I had it on service for a cracked case and if you put it all togehter (had it on service three times) I have had my phone on service for 63 days. That's 2 months on a phone that isn't a year old yet.

time to repair
I have the problem where my phone won't charge unless it's turned off.
But now I also have the cracked case problem.... So I think it is time to repair.
I really love the phone... but at that price, I expect better quality. I just hope they don't keep it too long.

It is two pictures of two old xperia phones. One pic that i found on this forum and one that i shoot of mine, with the new case, in almost the same angel so it would be easy to see the difference.
It amazes me that you cant see the rounded corner in the middle of the lower picture

You are a lucky man. Please tell my how you do it. Is your phone always lying on a pillow on your desk with a bluetooth headset connected to it? Have you not even once dropped it 2 decimeters onto a soft rug?

I have dropped mine more than 10 times. 3 of them hard falls. Not a crack or a scratch on it. I use it all the time, in my pocket, on the desk, in my hand, etc.

X1 Battery Cover - Material?

Afternoon guys n girls,
Just a quick question, can someone confirm the X1 battery cover is aluminium and not titanium etc.
Mine is scratched to hell and I wouldn't mind getting it re-anodised purple or blue providing it is alu.
Thanks
try using the wonders of physics!
go get a magnet and test it
Have tired that already, it's not magnetic so that rules out steel... just wasn't sure if titanium is magnetic or not.
google power ("titanium magnetic")
Doesn't really help though, some people said it is magnetic whilst others said it isn't... there is not a clearly defined answer.
I'd rather not try re-anodise it and get it burnt to **** and THEN find out it isn't alu.
it's definitively not titanium..... the fu.... chassis is build in cheapest plastic but the accu cover is build with titanium......häh
im pretty sure its alu. the whole phone is made of it, why spend more money ona titanium battery cover?
I don't know, I just recall Nokia using Titanium on some of the phones like the...8800?
Ah well, anodising here we come.
good luck
whatever this actualy does hehe but screens are appriciated
Well it's taken a battering so re-anodising it will put all the colour back, get rid of the horrible grey patches.

I was thinking the same. Silver ftw. But on the pics it seems pretty bad handled even for a black X1.
just the battery cover. the rest seems fine.
but i must admit ... the batter cover get scratchy so freckin easy. i just wear it in my pocket or sometimes laying it on my desk. yet i got scratches on it.
i think my silver x1a is made of stainless. i had a hard time drilling thru doing the battery cover reset mod. i was using small new drill bit to drill a pilot hole and it wasnt easy. took me about 5 to 10 minutes to drill thru.
it's aluminum... otherwise, they would have bragged about using titanium in their phones..
besides, the nokia 8800 carbon is made of carbon fiber and titanium and retails for around 1000-1200 bucks.

I don't know what drills you use, but with a common HSS drill it should not take longer than 20 seconds to drill through and make a fine champfer -carbide should do the trick in half of the time.

The rest of the phone is 100% fine, it's just that I always put it down on my desk / table and tend to slide it rather than picking it up and moving it so the back has taken a hammering.
Just spoken to my mate who does anodising and he said he'll beadblast it first then re-anodise it for me... mmmmm blue or purple, that is the question now.

I'd prefer purple with a black phone.
Blue would be better for the silver one.
yeah thats what i thought untill i started drilling.
alluminun for sure its not. i thought so too and was thinking i would make quick work out of drilling but it didnt work out that way.

I must confess to total amazement here - normally, I'm extremely good-mannered ... but:
IRON (Fe) is magnetic, together with it's 3+ oxides (Fe3O4 etc)
TITANIUM is a completely different element
I just can't believe it ...

Dust and screen

Hi all,
I have just noticed that I have one single particicle of dust under the glass of the LCD.
I am wondering if someone has experienced anything like that yet or I am the proud owner of the only HD2 in the world with a dust particicle under the screen.
I thought they were assembled in a clean room... in fact the dust particicle it's exactly on the center right of the display... I thought it was a bad pixel but luckily it is not.
Now I am wondering how to remove that. Gonna try some elctrostatic method...
Me to ... only noticed it today when putting on an HTC screen protector. It is to the bottom left under 'phone' on the left softbutton.
The question is ... are they not sealed properly ... or is this something that was trapped during the manufacturing process and subsequently moved. If it is the former ... we have a big problem.
I wonder how HTC approach this under their 2 year warranty ?
If it is sealed ... I assume there is no practical way to get the dust out.
I've had the device since the 11th.
Paul.

I don't know... let's wait and see. Mine is really near the center of the screen. It seems really strange that it is coming from the outside.
I have the device since the 17th.
Where did you get the screen protector from? and also does that have any effect on using touch screen on the phone?
Bump.
No one else yet report dust problems?
My single particicle is still there and I cannot move it anyway.
No other particicle yet although I am getting nervous and I am starting to see dust particicles everywhere.
I was quite surprised by your report, and keep checking my device for dust. Not found so far (using two weeks, also loose in pocket). Major dust problems would really disappoint me, such a high end product shouldn't have that...
Checking the device for defective pixels/dust under the glass is one of the very first tests I do when I'll eventually get mine.
Could you not just return it to where you bought it?
Hi,
not a dust particle for me, but like a "bubble" in the glass...
I took a picture of it :
its on the left hand side (most of the "dots" here are dust on the screen), there are 3 of them
on the picture it looks like 3 white dots but in reality it's a bubble in or under the screen...
I remember having the same problem you have with my SPV C500 and orange changed it.

Hi, I have a very similar "bubble" under my HD2 screen. It's right in the bottom right! Got my phone on the 29th. Should I take it back to the shop or contact HTC?
It begins...the usual HTC problems rear their ugly heads!
I have had a dust problem with every single HTC phone I've had all the way back to the original SPV! Damn them!
well... i contacted orange & they will change it (a brand new one)
this pb didn't really disturbed me, but then i read on a forum that a user broke his screen with a very small shock and i thought "this bubble might weaken my screen"
I had a quick chat with HTC regarding this, and the hotliner told me that "this shouldn't be on a brand new phone, it s a hardware issue, please contact your distributor asap & they will change it"
Well you are right... but a single dust particicle means that mine is unique, while yours is common.
By the way... I bought mine from expansys europe giving it back and having it substituted means months.
I'm afraid as previously mentioned, I too have one dust particle ... you are not unique at all
Let us stand tall together and proudly go where no HD2 has gone before ....
HTC are working on a hotfix for this bug, be patient <<joke
Strange ... when I called I was told they had determined it was a hardware problem and they had invested in nanobot technology to seek and consume alien dust organisms.
I have a speck of dust too!
bottom left of the screen.
only had it for 1 day!!!!!

I took mine back to the shop only to be told it was caused by me! I was not happy! I kicked off big time. You can clearly see the bubble is under the screen!!!! How the hell could I have done that!
Anyway they eventually agreed to replace the handset but they (o2 uk) have none in stock in any store! When asked when they would receive stock I was told that they don't know!!!! How can they not know? I was so mad. I made then make a note on my paperwork that I came back for a replacement just incase they get funny after the 14 day returns policy.
Im upset as the handset has so many problems -
* Reply to sms takes forever.
* Camera takes pink pictures
* Bubble under the screen (Which is common from what I can tell)
* and now I can see a .5 mm black line at the right hand side of the screen from top to bottom!
I think HTC rushed this phone to market.
To be fair HTC said they would repair the unit but I don't want them taking it apart. It's a brand new phone and I want a replacement.
Rant over
If you had it for only one day, you can ask for a replacement as your not happy with the pinkness of the camera for example.

Anyone knows if are outside guides to change the screen like hd2 official service guides and any shop that sell "cheap" (compared to official service) hd2 screens?
thanks for all
Sorry for your broken HD2...
May I ask, how did you manage to break it? I'm asking because it might give us a sense on how fragile these things are.

I use the phone as an alarm clock.
When sounded, I took it to shut it down and I dropped into bed. When going to pick it up accidentally leaned on the screen by making some pressure and I broke it

Damn! I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to replace, but if you don't think you can do it yourself better get someone else to do it! It will end up being cheaper than having to replace the whole phone

With most phones the screen is separate from the main board and chipsets etc. As far as I am aware usually the screen will be screwed in but not embedded into it. Though I could be wrong!!..... Just hoping to give some optimism
The screen is replaceable. You're not so lucky, man
Well, seeing this image actually hurts directly to my heart!
Anyway, search on eBay, but I don't think that there is any replacement part as the phone is completely new.
I did the same just now, except it's not the actual glass that's broken but it looks like the screen underneath. That however is completely shot, again, anybody know if it's possible to replace this?
And for those interested, pictures.

Repost, sorry
Mine's back with the service repair centre in the UK for a cracked screen and have just had my quote for repair £118.
No one else seems to have the spares.
The screen itself and surround was quoted at £78 labour £22, and the rest is for delivery.
The service centre isn't the quickest it's taken them a week from receiving the phone to give me a quote and then it's 5 days after you pay for them to fix the phone and test the software.
Luckily the insurance is paying
i can't believe!!!!!
i cracked my screen too!!
it falls down from 50 centimeters and the glass cracked in 1000 pieces!! i'll post the picture soon.
tomorrow i'm going to call the italian call center ..
Ouch!
Got my HD2 yesterday, now it has a hairline crack in the screen about 1cm long - don't know how - it's only been in a jacket pocket and car cradle.
Screen too weak?
Edit: O2 shop said it's a scratch not a crack - so much for scratch resistant glass.

It looks like the black whatever-the-hell-it-is behind the screen glass is broken at that point. From what I recall,I have only dropped it one time, but it was from like 40cm onto a wool carpet,so no damage there. The only "experience" that might have something to do with it is that my pal tried to punch me on the leg,and the bastard hit my pocket, where my phone was(the shock I was in was unbelievable! But his hand was aching for like 2 days! ).I cannot know where he hit it,but if it was the upper left corner, then this might be the answer.
I would have known earlier, but I only noticed that some days ago when I watched a movie on my phone in a dark room.In bright light it's not so easily seen.It is,however, annoying to see because it catches my eye(I can't help looking at it when I know it's there)and I am constantly afraid it might expand and cause a serious problem.
Given that there is always the chance it's a manufacturing defect, should I return it?I mean,it's not that big a problem, but it is a flaw in a rather flawless phone!
What would you guys do?Is it worth the trouble?I could always wait and see if it gets worse and get used to it on the way.
Any opinion/help welcome!
EDIT:I forgot to mention that it is only observable when the screen is on,so the light comes from within the device. That's what led me to the conclusion that it's an internal fracture.
Sorry mate but I really can't see **** from your photos. I think you really need to adjust the expose settings on the camera or just use a better camera to begin with... Happy to comment when I can see the problem
Same here man, would love to help but i can't see anything. Better pictures would help.
If some one hit me hard on my leg pfff... If some one hit me hard on my phone, he will be searching for his teeth now....
Jokes apart, it could well do some damage to the phone, it wasn't meant to sustain this abuse on the screen.
Take a better photo where you actually have some back light. I can't see jack in the photos.
I have this too, but to a lesser extent.I don't know what caused this but it was there when I got the phone. It's like a small dot of light leaking. You should take better pictures so we can see better.
At the very least use a paint program to circle what you're trying to show because I'm with the others above and can't see what you're trying to show at all.
Ok,you're all right, pictures are ****,but the only camera I had available atm was my Desire,so you can understand!
Anyway, will take better ones and upload them.Until then,if someone wants to search for the problem,it is a lit scratch-like thing on the upper left corner of the screen's black surrounding!

Well, his hand was in pain for two days and his head for like 5 minutes(second was obviously my work! ),so that's punishment enough I think!
Btw,to avoid misunderstandings, the punch hit the phone's back, probably around the speaker(can't be sure about that though),not the screen(which appears very sturdy btw, doesn't need protection).

Well, these shots are taken with my sister's Lumix,I circled the wtf and now I hope you can see it without problems!
Thanks for your replies guys!
It looks like the screen got loose from the main body of the phone a bit. Speaker is less or more on tho opposite side of that place. My best suggestion is it got ''loose'? Not sure if it's the right word. I doubt it's possible to fix it anywhere except at HTC service center man.
I think its the black finish inside is slightly off. I also think I have the same thing but never noticed it till I compared my display to your pics. Honestly, it does not look like a problem.

Weird, I had such a problem with my Galaxy S, which has Gorilla glass. It started small, but grew little by little. It even cornered! When you pressed the glass, it became clearer, indicating it was on the inner side of the phone.
My guess: some sort of cutting of the black mask damaged the surface and weakened it.
So I' ve bought a DHD and sent the SGS back for repair under warranty.

there's another one on the left side but it doesn't appear in this pic, well i know that u guys will think it's reflection but trust me it's not!, i watched some teardown videos and those parts don't even exist!, the home button doesn't have those part on top of it! so what am i seeing? my only concern is the waterproofness
is this normal? anyone??
I don't have a magnifying glass handy, but I can't see anything like that with the naked eye.

To me it looks not normal. My S7 edge does not have it.

if u have them u should be able to see them only if u look with a certain angle and with direct light, please check them for me, don't look vertically, look with phone's head towards floor about 30 degrees

hmm then i might have a faulty device unfortunately i can't replace it as in my country they only allow 1 replacement and i already replaced one , do u think this issue may lead to water leak?

I really don't know. Only one replacement? What a strange warranty policy
That's not normal. I don't have it on mine, and I have never seen it on any other S7 or S7 Edge. Only one replacement? Where are you from?

and what else could it be ! EGYPT of course, the country of absolute madness and none sense , well to be honest it doesn't look that clear when i hold the phone in my hand i mean it's not easy to notice those part, it takes me some time and a lot of phone tilting to find them, now here's a screenshot i toke from a teardown video,it shows 2 small holes on top of a golden bottom ( which i guess the shiny part in the first pic)
so i don't know whether or not iam supposed to be able to notice those holes, all i can say is that the button is quiet wiggly just a little bit and when i slightly slide it to the top, those holes become a little harder to notice, anyway i couldn't resist not taking the phone for a swim lesson, so i submerged it in water 2 times for about 3 mins and i even had the balls to press the button and even hold it! and thankfully no damage was done, the only thing i noticed was some small air bubbles around the button when i pressed it under water, dunno if this normal!

Well all I can say is that I do not have those two "thingys" on the home button, and I have never seen it before on other Edges too, so it's probably a production error where something or someone has been a little hasty with that part. I guess you could contact Samsung and just ask if there are any chances of getting a production error fixed, which you can even document with photos. If that fails, then I don't know. Contact a service center and ask how much it'll cost to get that button corrected or swapped?
