Hello all,
Last night I noticed a small white dot has appeared from nowhere right near the centre of my hd2's screen. Its definitely under the glass, it kind of looks like a dead pixel, but it still shows up even when the screen is off, would it do that if it were a dead pixel? what else might it be?
any info appreciated, im running pixel fixer on it right now.
I don't think this is a dead pixel, because that one would not show up when you turn off the screen as there is no more backlight when screen is turned off.

Hi Col888,
"Houston, you have a IFO-Problem"...
at the Airport i worked we called this FOD (foreign object damage). Little or big Objects we found for the Trashcan. You have a IFO ( identified Flying Object ) -not UFO- between your Gorilla-Glass and the LCD-Panel. Sometimes it´s a very tiny piece from the white StickyTape Cover-Foil during the assemble Process. Regulary invisible, because this Paper-Pieces are close to the Sticky-Tape under the Black Area. Sometimes it will release and move from alone during the complete Display...
The only way to remove this "IFO" is to remove the Digitizer and Blow this piece away. Maybe it will be help if you knock very gentle again the Glas, so it will be sliding out of the way.
If you still have warranty, you can send this to the HTC Support. They will remove that for free ( you will get a new HD2 or a New Touch/LCD Combo )...
Best Regards,
Micha
P.S. The Best IFO i ever had, was a dead tiny Asia-Fly between the Glas und LCD. This Jurrassic Park Fly traveled around the world to me and my VERY BIG ( looking at the Fly) EYES ;-)
Thanks for the replies, yes I think you're both right its not a dead pixel, it does look more like some foreign object thats stuck in there. Iv tried gently knocking the phone a bit but it hasnt moved as yet, will keep trying that tho.
I bought it 2nd hand so no warrenty as far as I know. The phone was in total mint condition until that IFO showed up.
Im a little tempted to open it up to remove it, but I'll probably destroy the phone if I try that lol.
Cheers.

Hi Col888,
2nd Hand....that explain maybe everything. I bet the "VOID" Seal on the screw under the Batt-Cover is broken, right ?! And when i look in my magic Blue HD2 Michael-Marbel i will bet ( 6 Pack Becks-Beer ) someone changed the Touchscreen before you buy this Phone. Dust and Dirt you don´t find often direct from HTC. But Dirt often when someone inside a regular dirty Room canged this Touchscreen at Home...
Check the Seal ( broken or not )? and if the Touch-GLAS is not INSIDE the Backcover ( you habe to feel the sharp Cover-Rim, the Glas has to be 0.2mm deeper then the Plastic-Rim ) this will be replaced by an "DIT-Dummy". If "yes", say "THANK YOU" to this guy for the free IFO-Bonus...LOL
Take a look to you Gorilla-Glas. It´s not easy to bring it after a Touch-Replacement deep -HTC-Original Like- back into the Backcover ) ?:

Even for me. This Touch-Replacement was the best i can do ( looks after that like HTC-Original ). Regular the Glas is higher and if its over the Top, someone fixed/replaced that...
CU,
Michael
P.S. If you have a Cheap Ultrasonic-Cleaning Device ( for Watches etc.p.p. ), put this HD2 dry on it for 2-3 Sec. Maybe the FREE GIFT will walk away....
Thanks for the info Michael,
If Im understanding you correctly, I dont think the LCD has been changed.
Under the batter cover 3 of the 4 screws still have stickers on them, 2 void stickers, and 1 plain white sticker. The last screw has no sticker.
The LCD screen seems to be positioned the same as it is in your pics, on all 4 corners. It feels like the screen is pushed very slightly into the case. The plastic rim is definitely higher than the LCD screen all round the edges.
I would take pics, but my post count isnt high enough yet.
I dont have any ultrasonic devices, otherwise I would definatly try that idea out.
Regards.

hey everybody i got a G1 the black one and one of my buddies just got the brown one that tmobile started selling and i am so wishing i had gotten that one. The finish on it is i think much higher quality than the black one. So i was wondering if anyone has taken apart a G1 yet and if it would be hard to do the conversion. I wonder if tmobile will do a replacement on the phone so i can change color....
WTF are you asking about a conversion?
I'm on 5 different g1 forums and haven't heard of anyone taking their's apart yet. I would assume it would be a tough task to switch out from black to brown casing. Maybe possible though...
i dont understand. what are you swapping? swapping his case and yours? why dont you just trade phones.
its just a question anyway i went to tmobile and they replaced it for the white one with no problems...so im happy now. But i was just wondering if anyone had taken a G1 apart

oh i thought so. thanks
hi, i took mine apart, was sick of it creaking and the screen not being tight on the device.
wasn't brave enough to take the components off the housing though (yet!).
once you get the outer shell around the battery (once battery cover is removed), it's all there for the taking. a wire either side connects seperate pcbs.
quite a few screws, and just undoing one by the microsd slot, the housing pops apart, so stopped doing that lol!
the whole thing is plastic, with a metal sheet under where the battery goes. all pretty flimsy stuff. there doesnt appear to be a screw on the pivot pin so dont know how that comes off or tightens. and unless there's a hole through to screen housing, how do you get the final fourth screw off as its hidden by keyboard?
will take a photo tomorrow if i can be bothered to open it again, but as i say. all pretty flimsy stuff. hence why if you look down the line where the volume rocker is, you should see the case is 'bowed' just from taking the battery cover on and off!
the keyboard surround should have been made of steel or something stronger.
i actually did take it apart once~~i also manage to not break the VOID sticker~~its not that hard~~as the way i see it the housing should be able to swap with no problem~~
replacement housings have hit eBay, might want to give a look at the individual components for the answers on how to disassemble:

you can return it for 14 day "buyers remorse" and get the bronze one... its not bad it almost black as I recall from opening day when I bought mine but I went for black since my first choice was the white and there were no white ones atleast in my area, (philly metro)

edit:
as a general rule I dont like to take sh1t apart thats still covered for defects by the OEM...but thats just me.

and it looks like a pain in the butt ..haha
I googled taking apart g1 and seen a youtube video of some chinese guy taking the g1 apart from start to finish the video is 2 parts
well my brown housing is on its way, although i do have a black version here for sale, but that has been updated (im tempted to keep it as a) im selling it for the 3rd time on ebay due to fraud! b) the black keyboard is soooo much better than the ****ty white one on mine!).
2nd vibrate motor by lcd, surely you can conclude this was for haptic feedback!?
G1 Torx Size
What size torx is needed for the G1 Screws? I got a black keyboard that I want to put into my phone.
Hey! Anyone found out how to repaint X1? I mainly mean battery cover. From black X1 the paint is scratching off and it looks ugly. Any good paint that will mask it? Any solution? I don't want to have black and silver-scratchy coloured X1 and I think nobody wants. Some solutions?
well i think since it is steel u can take it to a paint shop for cars he will max a mix n paint it for u im thinking of doing so 2..but i dnt get it why is it only the back cover not the front also but thank God only the back..btw i take good care of this phone i dnt have anyidea why....
i have 2 "dots" on front panel also.. they're about 1/3 mm wide.
Same problem with black battery cover.
I thought of getting a can of metal black paint for car / bike etc.
New cover on EBay goes for about 15 UK pounds!
This is the worst thing about the X1 one really. I hate how the back cover looses all of it's paint so easily! Even the Xperia logo on the back is starting to come of and that really sucks so badly. And I am so glad that the front is not that bad, that would be a disaster!
But good luck re-painting and come back with the result if you do re-paint it!
I was fed up with the scratches on my X1 battery cover, so I used a buffing tool to remove the paint completely.. Nice brushed steel effect now! I'll probably spray it black at some point, but from what I can tell, the paint should take pretty easily if you key the surface well enough.
I did the same thing with my old iPod when the back of that got scratched. Just used some metallic car paint. Primed it first, then sprayed one coat on, then added 2 layers of clear. The clearcoat is important, because whilst it gives it a glossy finish, it also means the scratches don't show up half as much.
I wrote an Email to SE that my battery cover looks worse even if i have my X1 always in my leather case. One week later there was a new battery cover with me

I did too buyt hey simply said I should go to the supplier of the phone, they could not say if I would pay in or be replaced for free
wouldnt painting the cover make it 10x uglier since it will not be consistant with the rest of the body
why dont you just mask the battery cover black or something?
or buy a new cover!
use any automobile aerosole paint
in our country that method works : )

HI
I painted mine today. Bought can of black metal spray paint with a satin finish. I placed a cutom cut sticker over the silver 'XPERIA' title and 'Xi'.
Then I REMOVED the battery cover and took it outside for painting (NB remove it from the phone before you paint )
I looks great. I am still debating putting on a clear coat . . .
Cost about $3 and 5 min - excluding time allowed for drying . . .
Could you post any photo of your repainted X1?
I have done this. Here is a picture:
I borrowed my roommate's spray paint that he uses to paint his models with (matte black). I didn't bother taping anything because I didn't care much for the XPERIA text and figured that taping it would make it easier to chip and less resilient.
So far it has been great, looks 100% consistent with the rest of the back except that it isn't quite as "soft-touch."
Please do disregard the teddy bear.
It looks great! Shame it isn't possible to get that "polished metal" effect as on original cover...
Yes, I was debating on whether to get a new battery cover and apply a film protector on it or just spray paint it.
In the interest of money, I chose to paint over it and am very pleased. I was especially happy that the Sony Ericsson engraving remained intact and looks perfect even on close inspection. No one unfamiliar with the normal battery cover of the XPERIA could tell it was painted..
Hi all,
I have just noticed that I have one single particicle of dust under the glass of the LCD.
I am wondering if someone has experienced anything like that yet or I am the proud owner of the only HD2 in the world with a dust particicle under the screen.
I thought they were assembled in a clean room... in fact the dust particicle it's exactly on the center right of the display... I thought it was a bad pixel but luckily it is not.
Now I am wondering how to remove that. Gonna try some elctrostatic method...
Me to ... only noticed it today when putting on an HTC screen protector. It is to the bottom left under 'phone' on the left softbutton.
The question is ... are they not sealed properly ... or is this something that was trapped during the manufacturing process and subsequently moved. If it is the former ... we have a big problem.
I wonder how HTC approach this under their 2 year warranty ?
If it is sealed ... I assume there is no practical way to get the dust out.
I've had the device since the 11th.
Paul.

I don't know... let's wait and see. Mine is really near the center of the screen. It seems really strange that it is coming from the outside.
I have the device since the 17th.
Where did you get the screen protector from? and also does that have any effect on using touch screen on the phone?
Bump.
No one else yet report dust problems?
My single particicle is still there and I cannot move it anyway.
No other particicle yet although I am getting nervous and I am starting to see dust particicles everywhere.
I was quite surprised by your report, and keep checking my device for dust. Not found so far (using two weeks, also loose in pocket). Major dust problems would really disappoint me, such a high end product shouldn't have that...
Checking the device for defective pixels/dust under the glass is one of the very first tests I do when I'll eventually get mine.
Could you not just return it to where you bought it?
Hi,
not a dust particle for me, but like a "bubble" in the glass...
I took a picture of it :
its on the left hand side (most of the "dots" here are dust on the screen), there are 3 of them
on the picture it looks like 3 white dots but in reality it's a bubble in or under the screen...
I remember having the same problem you have with my SPV C500 and orange changed it.

Hi, I have a very similar "bubble" under my HD2 screen. It's right in the bottom right! Got my phone on the 29th. Should I take it back to the shop or contact HTC?
It begins...the usual HTC problems rear their ugly heads!
I have had a dust problem with every single HTC phone I've had all the way back to the original SPV! Damn them!
well... i contacted orange & they will change it (a brand new one)
this pb didn't really disturbed me, but then i read on a forum that a user broke his screen with a very small shock and i thought "this bubble might weaken my screen"
I had a quick chat with HTC regarding this, and the hotliner told me that "this shouldn't be on a brand new phone, it s a hardware issue, please contact your distributor asap & they will change it"
Well you are right... but a single dust particicle means that mine is unique, while yours is common.
By the way... I bought mine from expansys europe giving it back and having it substituted means months.
I'm afraid as previously mentioned, I too have one dust particle ... you are not unique at all
Let us stand tall together and proudly go where no HD2 has gone before ....
HTC are working on a hotfix for this bug, be patient <<joke
Strange ... when I called I was told they had determined it was a hardware problem and they had invested in nanobot technology to seek and consume alien dust organisms.
I have a speck of dust too!
bottom left of the screen.

I took mine back to the shop only to be told it was caused by me! I was not happy! I kicked off big time. You can clearly see the bubble is under the screen!!!! How the hell could I have done that!
Anyway they eventually agreed to replace the handset but they (o2 uk) have none in stock in any store! When asked when they would receive stock I was told that they don't know!!!! How can they not know? I was so mad. I made then make a note on my paperwork that I came back for a replacement just incase they get funny after the 14 day returns policy.
Im upset as the handset has so many problems -
* Reply to sms takes forever.
* Camera takes pink pictures
* Bubble under the screen (Which is common from what I can tell)
* and now I can see a .5 mm black line at the right hand side of the screen from top to bottom!
I think HTC rushed this phone to market.
To be fair HTC said they would repair the unit but I don't want them taking it apart. It's a brand new phone and I want a replacement.
Rant over
If you had it for only one day, you can ask for a replacement as your not happy with the pinkness of the camera for example.

Damn! I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to replace, but if you don't think you can do it yourself better get someone else to do it! It will end up being cheaper than having to replace the whole phone

With most phones the screen is separate from the main board and chipsets etc. As far as I am aware usually the screen will be screwed in but not embedded into it. Though I could be wrong!!..... Just hoping to give some optimism
The screen is replaceable. You're not so lucky, man
Well, seeing this image actually hurts directly to my heart!
Anyway, search on eBay, but I don't think that there is any replacement part as the phone is completely new.
I did the same just now, except it's not the actual glass that's broken but it looks like the screen underneath. That however is completely shot, again, anybody know if it's possible to replace this?
And for those interested, pictures.
Result after dropping from about chest hight on the ground.

Repost, sorry
Mine's back with the service repair centre in the UK for a cracked screen and have just had my quote for repair £118.
No one else seems to have the spares.
The screen itself and surround was quoted at £78 labour £22, and the rest is for delivery.
The service centre isn't the quickest it's taken them a week from receiving the phone to give me a quote and then it's 5 days after you pay for them to fix the phone and test the software.
Luckily the insurance is paying
i can't believe!!!!!
i cracked my screen too!!
it falls down from 50 centimeters and the glass cracked in 1000 pieces!! i'll post the picture soon.
tomorrow i'm going to call the italian call center ..
Ouch!
Got my HD2 yesterday, now it has a hairline crack in the screen about 1cm long - don't know how - it's only been in a jacket pocket and car cradle.
Screen too weak?
Edit: O2 shop said it's a scratch not a crack - so much for scratch resistant glass.

It looks like the black whatever-the-hell-it-is behind the screen glass is broken at that point. From what I recall,I have only dropped it one time, but it was from like 40cm onto a wool carpet,so no damage there. The only "experience" that might have something to do with it is that my pal tried to punch me on the leg,and the bastard hit my pocket, where my phone was(the shock I was in was unbelievable! But his hand was aching for like 2 days! ).I cannot know where he hit it,but if it was the upper left corner, then this might be the answer.
I would have known earlier, but I only noticed that some days ago when I watched a movie on my phone in a dark room.In bright light it's not so easily seen.It is,however, annoying to see because it catches my eye(I can't help looking at it when I know it's there)and I am constantly afraid it might expand and cause a serious problem.
Given that there is always the chance it's a manufacturing defect, should I return it?I mean,it's not that big a problem, but it is a flaw in a rather flawless phone!
What would you guys do?Is it worth the trouble?I could always wait and see if it gets worse and get used to it on the way.
Any opinion/help welcome!
EDIT:I forgot to mention that it is only observable when the screen is on,so the light comes from within the device. That's what led me to the conclusion that it's an internal fracture.
Sorry mate but I really can't see **** from your photos. I think you really need to adjust the expose settings on the camera or just use a better camera to begin with... Happy to comment when I can see the problem
Same here man, would love to help but i can't see anything. Better pictures would help.
If some one hit me hard on my leg pfff... If some one hit me hard on my phone, he will be searching for his teeth now....
Jokes apart, it could well do some damage to the phone, it wasn't meant to sustain this abuse on the screen.
Take a better photo where you actually have some back light. I can't see jack in the photos.
I have this too, but to a lesser extent.I don't know what caused this but it was there when I got the phone. It's like a small dot of light leaking. You should take better pictures so we can see better.
At the very least use a paint program to circle what you're trying to show because I'm with the others above and can't see what you're trying to show at all.
Ok,you're all right, pictures are ****,but the only camera I had available atm was my Desire,so you can understand!
Anyway, will take better ones and upload them.Until then,if someone wants to search for the problem,it is a lit scratch-like thing on the upper left corner of the screen's black surrounding!

Well, his hand was in pain for two days and his head for like 5 minutes(second was obviously my work! ),so that's punishment enough I think!
Btw,to avoid misunderstandings, the punch hit the phone's back, probably around the speaker(can't be sure about that though),not the screen(which appears very sturdy btw, doesn't need protection).

Well, these shots are taken with my sister's Lumix,I circled the wtf and now I hope you can see it without problems!
Thanks for your replies guys!
It looks like the screen got loose from the main body of the phone a bit. Speaker is less or more on tho opposite side of that place. My best suggestion is it got ''loose'? Not sure if it's the right word. I doubt it's possible to fix it anywhere except at HTC service center man.
I think its the black finish inside is slightly off. I also think I have the same thing but never noticed it till I compared my display to your pics. Honestly, it does not look like a problem.

Weird, I had such a problem with my Galaxy S, which has Gorilla glass. It started small, but grew little by little. It even cornered! When you pressed the glass, it became clearer, indicating it was on the inner side of the phone.
My guess: some sort of cutting of the black mask damaged the surface and weakened it.
So I' ve bought a DHD and sent the SGS back for repair under warranty.

Well...Holy ****!I can't part with my DHD!Isn't it just better than everything else?
Fun aside,I think I'll leave it as is for now and sent it for warranty repair when I root it(so titanium backup saves everything for me ) or,even better, when I buy a new one. That is,unless it expands and becomes a problem!
Anyway,many thanks guys!

I've the same problem guys. :-(
I think all the Desire HD have the same problem, and then I don't think it can be solved.
So we will have to live with that "wtf" ...
Excuse my English.
P.S : I'm in France.
You should replace it if you can.
