If you get a replacement from T-Mobile Customer Service they will send you the replacement first then you send the old one back. It will not come with a battery, battery cover, SD Card, SIM card. You will use your old one.
If you go through HTC warranty you will have to send it in and they will repair or replace it, then send it back.
ok
thanks how long dose it take

The past day or so, I've noticed my trackball is on it's way out. Up/Down barely work anymore, and it takes 3 tries or so to get it to detect a push to wake the phone up using trackball wake.
Do you think it's worth it to risk trying to get a warranty replacement phone? I've read that a bunch of you guys have been RMAing the phone for the power button issue and getting back refurbished phones with bigger issues than the original problem you sent it in for. I'd rather not get stuck in that situation.
I've also read that the only phones HTC has left are the T-mobile ones, is this true? I've got an ATT N1 so that wouldn't do me any good.
Is there any chance of HTC actually repairing my specific phone? Or will they just send a refurb.
Thanks for any information and advice.
well, u can call and they will replace ur phone based off ur IMEI #. As for whether or not they have ATT ones you will have to call. I was rooted unlocked bootloader and did the refurbished route . Recieved a burnt screen, returned that and then finally got a good one on my second try. They were not assholes about it. HTC made it easy actually. They will repair your phone under warranty but you will be N1less for about 2 weeks . So if you can deal with that then do it. I couldnt, i even gave up my precious engraving due to the dust under the screen. They will need a credit card of some sort to put a $530 hold on it just in case u never return the refurbished one.
Try this first, turn off your phone/lock it then using a piece of cloth push the trackball in while rolling it in all directions. Sometimes dust etc will build up on the ball and cause it to become unresponsive.
If this doesn't work you may be able to change the small squarish part which holds the trackball. It's a little fiddly to disassemble your N1 to change this part but from memory it isn't held in place by wires or connectors but rather simply sits in place and should therefore be relatively easy to change.
Get it fixed under the warranty. It's free and requires absolutely no effort on your part. Don't wait, and don't try to fix it yourself.
Whether or not HTC still makes the ATT version of the phone is irrelevant, because all they have to do is replace the trackball assembly, not the radio. The only "risk" you're taking by having HTC repair it is that you'll be without a N1 for a little while. It doesn't matter if there's a chance that they'll send you back a device with more problems, because they are still responsible for getting your device back to 100% working status, and you can hold them to that until they make good on the agreement. If you don't hold them to it, then you're just encouraging bad customer service, which is what leads to those terrible situations you've been hearing about.
Obviously replace it!
If you have your warranty still, then just get your phone back to it's original recovery and firmware, and wait for your Nexus to get shipped to your door, then just ship it back in the box your new phone came in.
I unlocked my phone using the bootloader before any work arounds came about. Now I have a rooted Nexus with a warranty that will remain intact because the bootloader hasn't been unlocked
My experiences with HTC have always been good.
I received a new battery and headset with my replacement because the woman asked if I had any trouble with the accessories or battery. Just for my troubles they also sent me a new back cover. Just bring up "compensation" haha.
But yes, replace it. It's worth it, and the chances of getting an essentially new phone are a lot higher than you getting a piece of **** (which you can replace anyways with a single phone call, so why does it matter?).
Also, on replacing/repairing your phone. You choose which you want. If you want to wait a few weeks for YOUR phone to be fixed, then by all means wait it out. But if you're like me, and can't live without your phone for that long, order a replacement, as they send one to your door without you having to send yours in first.

You definitely will get an AT&T one. I did. They are obligated to!
Replace it! I would be lost without it!!
Get the unit repaired so you can keep your custom engraving. (if any) HTC turnaround time is quick and your cell phone provider (I know T-Mobile did) should provide you with a loaner phone if you ask them.
right I sent off my legend and get it back without the back cover. after being told to send it as well
i've messaged them and they say they will send one but it has been over a week and they haven't sent a thing
any advice
Hey man,
Funny, the exact same thing happened to me. Sent my phone off for repair, got it back without a cover.
It took about 2 weeks for a new battery cover to be sent to me. So hang in there
For future reference all you send is the phone, no covers,sd card or battery its standard procedure
Same thing happened to me but it only took 2 days for them to send a new one
After reading the horror stories about the HTC repair centre I thought I was one of the lucky ones.
The touchscreen on my HD2 completely failed, rang the repair centre at around 11.00am last friday and they collected the phone the same day.
6 Days later my repaired phone is returned, on unboxing and inspection I notice that all 4 of the screws used to hold the phone together under the battery cover are missing.
I now have had to raise another ticket request, return the phone yet again tomorrow and wait probably another 6 days for its return
Is your HD2? TMOUS? Or EU? If it's TMOUS if your still in warranty you could just get a brand new one. Honestly the HTC Repair place sucks, a friend of mine wanted his Nexus One repaired and it came back without a battery D:
its a EU version

That's because you are supposed to send it without any battery, sim, sd card, battery cover, etc.
I personally had an HD2 repaired by HTC because of the overheating issue which would freeze the phone and was pretty impressed overall. They repaired (replaced the main board) and sent it back the same day. They didn't charge me for international shipping despite being in Canada.
A few things did go wrong though they almost sent it to the wrong address. (made a mistake with my address on the phone originally)
Also the phone I sent was unlocked but when I received the repaired phone it was locked. They unlocked it but had to wait several days for the unlock code.
myTouch 4g is bricked. Bad eMMC problem. Won't boot up. Need to send it back to HTC and get it replaced. Does anyone know what all needs to be sent to htc? Do i need to send sd card, battery and other accessories? or just phone without accessories is fine? Please let me know. It's kinda urgent
just phone. usually you keep the battery door or battery though
okay cool. Actually, I had talked to HTC ppl. they are saying replacing is done through your carrier. Now, need to check with Tmo
My replacement streak arrived today but its a bit strange
I was under the imprecation that Dell were going to pick up my streak to repair it not send me a brand new one(not that im complaining).
And my old streak was not picked up(qdl tool would prop have fixed it) am I supposed to send it to them or do they pick it up.
I only ask as If i have got to send it to them then I will, but if they were supposed to pick it up I will wait to see if I get any phone calls from them. Obviously I don't want to ring them to ask them unless I really have to.
Any one who can shed some light on this turn of good luck would be much appreciated.
One word ... KARMA .. that always works with me.
Don't get me wrong I am over the moon, I just got a unexpected new phone, but Im still unsure as what to do with the old one lol
I had to call Dell to email me a shipping label to put on my old streak.

Dude, What the hell. Why are you here?
Return home from an oversea business trip, on arrived home and I discovered that I've taken someone else luggage which looks identical to mine. The content was full of real diamonds, should I phone and inform the airport and return it or keep it and wait to see if anyone contact me in the near future. What do you think?
ANOTHER THOUGHT .. You could box it up and wait for Dell to call you about the return. That way it shows Karma that you are prepared to return it but if they don't call you .... (shrug)
Replacement streak
You are lucky. I have been waiting over three weeks and was told won't be any until end of September 2011 and it will be a refurbish. I am p****sed off with the situation. If you received it by mail, the return label is in the box. I was told that when I receive replacement to ship back to them using the prepaid return label. Enjoy your new Streak.
Donate it to a Dev!

This is what I do,I get the replacement,I use it for a few days and after that I send the old one. They should've told you to do so, they also should've left a sheet with all the directions you need to follow.
They can charge you if you do not return it.
@shineydesert
Thanks for the info, I really wasn't sure were I stand every other phone that I have had replaced had been picked up when the old phone was deliverd

They will try to charge you.
Why did you ask for an exchange? is the same problem with the internal sd card?
Put the old one back in the box the new one came in. Wait a few days and you'll get a shipping label in the mail. Stick the label on the box and call fed ex to schedule a pick up. I've already got three replaced. Went this way every time
I was sent a replacement phone that was refurbished. I put the old one in the box that the refurbished one came in. Dell also included the return label. I'd say send it back and avoid any hassles.
If you look at your order status online, you will see they already charged you $1164.99 when they sent you the replacement base unit. ( how they figure this amount out is beyond me, when new streak sold for $300usd)
So if you don't return the old one you have with the shipping label they provided, they will first call to remind you, and send this to collection agency if they don't eventually get it back. At least they have your name, phone # and address

I was in the same situation before and ôte was UPS who collected it ... So put an old Nokia in the box lightly tape the box so if dell complained I could say that someone at UPS stole it ... Then you can sell it for the 100 bucks you want.. that's what I did..

Nice advice! Not only you are telling him to commit fraud, you are telling him to commit fraud in a very stupid way. I don't know where you live, but in the states this could involve the FBI, and you don't want them knocking on your door.

I didn't ask for a exchange, I thought mine was going to be repaired I didn't know that I was getting a new phone till it arrived.
The problem with the phone was files were either not copying to my sd card(tried 3 different cards) or when i downloaded things to my sd card or copied apps over they disappeared I think the sd card wasn't mounting properly.
I kept my streak with broken screen.. Lol. All I have dell was email, address, home number. No payment info.
I won that one
