hey
I have a nexus one running the latest rogdriguez mod for miui. I am having a problem with the messaging app. I cannot use the voice input from the swype keyboard to send a message. When i do the field remains blank. Is there a way to fix this? Is it possible to take the messaging app from the stock froyo and put it in? If so where would i get the stock messaging apk from?
Thanks in advance
Have you tried any other SMS apps from the market e.g. chomp sms or handcent?
I use swype but i can't say i've tried the voice side of things on MIUI.
Did it ever work?
Swype is not compatible on all roms and at the minimum you need to uninstall and reinstall with your invite info they first sent you in an email.
Also, I would try Rod's Forum for help first, if you haven't already.

The other problem that I am having is that when i set up facebook to only sync with my contacts it ends up syncing all my facebook contacts. Is there a solution?
thanks...i am now using handcent

I've been having lag recently withing the SMS app. I will open it up and it's slow/sluggish and it takes my contacts pictures a while to load.
I know there are SMS apps like Handcent and Chomp, but I'm not a big fan of them. They've deleted all my texts multiple times and the interface looks cheap to me.
I delete my SMS threads every week or so and I do not have a lot of MMS messages in these threads. Does anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, have a fix for it?
Thanks.

I use handcent every day since the DX was released and it has never deleted any of my texts...and you can change the interface as well. And for what it's worth, haven't noticed any lag with it either. I just love the quick reply
Had a similar problem with my contact list...it was because I had removed atcmd.apk. Have you removed any bloatware?
Handcent > Stock messaging app
And if it deleted all your texts, you probably hit the delete button
I have removed bloatware so I'll need to check into that.
As for Handcent; it deleted all of my SMS messages twice. It originally did it to my friend, but I figured he was the one at fault. Shortly after that my texts got deleted. This never happened on the Droid X, only on the original Droid.
I just don't like the way the Handcent interface looks on my X, even though the stock SMS app is hideous in its own right.
i agree with you whole heartedly. i dont like chomp or handcent.. i know a lot of people do.. good for them. but i really want just the stock android 2.2 messaging.
I have the same problem. If I get a text notification and I select it from the pull down notification bar it takes forever to load. I've used hand cent and I got even more loading lag with that app so I uninstalled it. I'm wondering if its my conversation sizes or I'm running or of ram

How does DX handle deleted messages? I was just wondering bc I am used to Sense on WinMo and I would delete my messages - but then I noticed one day it stored all my deleted messages as well. Go figure.
Does DX work the same way? (haven't got mine yet) I mean could it be that you have hundreds of deleted texts hiding somewhere waiting to be emptied like on HTC Sense/WinMo?
I just wanted to let you guys know that I installed the MMS.apk package from the original Droid Cyanogen 5.0.8 build, and it works swimmingly. I used Titanium Backup to backup and remove the Motorola Text Messaging app and have seen no issues.
Also, if any of you have had a problem with receiving messages 2 or 3 at a time, (duplicates) this solved that problem for me.
hey where can i get my hands on that MMS.apk? please
Hey guys,
I have noticed CM 7 lacks group messaging capabilities on the rom itself.. Or maybe I am just blind and couldnt find it..
Anyways, How have you guys been using as a substitute for that. Any good recomendations of apps or tweaks
I personally have used ChompSMS, Handcent, and GoSMS and of the three, GoSMS is my favorite.

start a message and add a contact, it auto selects the text input field, click in the end of the contact again and you can add more.
I really need group messaging capabilities in CM7 too.

Hey guys, I had previously stored my 5000+ sms messages from my XperiaX10 into my Gmail account... After I bought the Atrix4G, when I restored these messages, I saw that just some part of them were restored because there is a limitation of SMS's per conversation in Android 2.2!
Is there ANY way for me to restore ALL my messages back to my phone? Any way to remove that SMS limitation they put (which is 1000 per contact I believe)? If it's through an application (through rooting the phone, anything I can do...?)
Thanks a bunch!
Try the handcent text messaging app. Its free plus will give you a TON of extra features including unlimited inbox limit.

hmm I liked the idea, buuuut I believe Handcent syncs directly from the Messaging App so if the Messaging app doesn't get the restored messages from Gmail, I'm guessing Handcent wouldn't either? It bugged the only time I tried... I could try again, but I don't really know what I'm talking about hehe...
And I've never really used Handcent, how does it work when you receive a message? Do you get 2 notifications? Is it possible to set Handcent as the default messaging app? How does it work?

With 5000+ messages, wouldn't you rather leave them in Gmail? At least you could use the search feature in there
Yea wouldn't it be better to save that in an archive then build it again with another app now? Of course I don't know how you could import them if the SMS applications don't support it but....

It just doesn't make sense to have 5000 text messages in that format. That's a lot of scrolling if you are trying to find a specific text message, whereas, in the Gmail app you can use keywords, such as the contact's name and whatever you were talking about and then BAM, there it is.
is there any way to enable the option to reply from the notification bar like AOSP/CM using the stock messaging app? Im guessing no, but any advice would be nice.
+1...Would be nice to be able to mark as read also for the text and emails! I'm a droid noob so I'm lost!

I like the stock Samsung SMS app also.
This was where I screwed things up on my phone and I had to re-install the stock ROM because Titanium wouldn't let me restore.
I removed the AT&T Messages app thinking that doing so would make the default stock Samsung SMS app appear in the notification bar.
Man was I wrong. After removing the AT&T Messages app my contacts went all wonky.
It turns out that deleting the AT&T Messages app also removes a system app called Contacts Storage 4.2.2.
I tried to restore these apps using Titanium but it would fail to restore each time.
Maybe a dev will have a workaround for this.
^ good to know.
Well im using sliding messaging now and it does offer the reply from notification bar feature. Its a little buggy, but reliable enough for daily use.
For some reason in my hangouts app it is only showing my contact numbers not the name. But in the default messages app I am able to view the names from the contatcs? Am I missing a step? It worked fine on my HTC one.. I am running Sweet Rom V5
Also could anyone suggest any kernels that run well with this rom. Thanks!

It has done it for me sometimes but only on the odd contact, then it fixes itself

I have disabled the default messaging app and have left SMS turned on for Hangouts.. But nothing seems to work for the contacts to be shown. only SOME contacts show the name but most just show the number.. Not sure where to go from here. Might do a clean install of the rom, but trying to avoid that.
