Hey guys,
I have noticed CM 7 lacks group messaging capabilities on the rom itself.. Or maybe I am just blind and couldnt find it..
Anyways, How have you guys been using as a substitute for that. Any good recomendations of apps or tweaks
I personally have used ChompSMS, Handcent, and GoSMS and of the three, GoSMS is my favorite.

start a message and add a contact, it auto selects the text input field, click in the end of the contact again and you can add more.
I really need group messaging capabilities in CM7 too.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area. But there's no Q and A section yet Nexus S.
But anyway I'm coming from the Evo 4g and I just received my Nexus S. I would like to send out a group text messages letting everyone know my new number.
So can someone please tell me how to send out group messages. It seems like I'm only able to send a text to individua people.
Thanks
You don't.
You either have to add each person individually, or you have to use another text application.
Score another one for "Pure Android".
download handcent. i prefer it over the stock messaging app.
you can add groups, send mass texts, among a crapload of other things.

handcent used to rock, but on my EVO it got super sluggish and major FC pretty often. I love the look of it, not because it copies the iPhone, but I have to admit, that style just works best, very easy to see and read.
+1 for Handcent. I also like it because I can use inverse or dark colors (black background, slightly less dark text).
hey
I have a nexus one running the latest rogdriguez mod for miui. I am having a problem with the messaging app. I cannot use the voice input from the swype keyboard to send a message. When i do the field remains blank. Is there a way to fix this? Is it possible to take the messaging app from the stock froyo and put it in? If so where would i get the stock messaging apk from?
Thanks in advance
Have you tried any other SMS apps from the market e.g. chomp sms or handcent?
I use swype but i can't say i've tried the voice side of things on MIUI.
Did it ever work?
Swype is not compatible on all roms and at the minimum you need to uninstall and reinstall with your invite info they first sent you in an email.
Also, I would try Rod's Forum for help first, if you haven't already.

The other problem that I am having is that when i set up facebook to only sync with my contacts it ends up syncing all my facebook contacts. Is there a solution?
thanks...i am now using handcent
I am looking for a text messaging widget that displays my most recent messages. I used the HTC messaging widget while I was on Sense ROMs, however now that I am using a AOSP rom I need to find something similar. Searched for a while but couldnt find anything.

Handcent, ChompSMS, and Go SMS all have widgets, and are better than the stock messaging app.

this is factual
I use the Pure Messaging widget - supports SMS, Email (the only one I could find that actually supports the stock email program), facebook, twitter, and phone calls. Super good program and really customizable. Looks great if you like to really customize your phone - it's not just a grey block.
I like handcent but I was looking for a widget more similar to the sense widget. I think I might just buy launcher pro plus as it seems to have what I'm looking for.
Thanks for the pure messenger widget tip, ill check that out too.

What is a good ad free text messaging app? I used to run MIUI and LOVE their texting ap. But MIUI isn't working right for me now so switched to CM11. And while I like it the lack of a good text messenger sucks.
I send lots of MMS messages because of work, and I have 3 different gmail accounts logged in on my phone, and while hangouts is boarderline ok, the fact that I get sign in issues because of the two accounts I don't use hangouts with and then the fact that I have to select what account to send the mms over, it's just a pain, and not nearly as smooth as I think it should be, or that it was.
I have tried and tried to find the APK for the MIUI texting ap so I could just install that, but I just can't find it.
Please help me find a suitable replacement. I don't mind paying the few bucks for it, but it has to be worth it without being all bloat ware, I don't care if it has 9999 different emoticons. I just want to be able to text and send good resolution MMS.
Thanks,
PS, being able to schedule text messages would be awesome too.

I'm enjoying EvolveSMS a lot. Frequently updated and very smooth. Nice design, a good amount of features and it handles MMS fairly well depending on your carrier.
Google Play - EvolveSMS
The free version is ok but to get the full app and all its awesome extra little features i think its got $2 of in app purchases
Also has backing up to dropbox/google drive and what not

I had MMS issues like 3 weeks ago but they have since been resolved and improved quite a bit.
My favourite SMS app so far, offers quick reply popup settings as well plus themes are amazing.
Also allows sliding between conversations and a nice pull out list of convos.
Seriously once you try it i find it hard to believe you'll end up wanting to use anything else.
Handcent sms. Worked ceven w apn issues on sprint mms where others dailee

I've been using Hello SMS and I really like it. It's got a different and I think better UI than anything else I have tried.

If you're a Uber-texter,
Sliding Messsaging Pro:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.klinker.android.messaging_donate
Evolve is okay, But it's essentially a pared down version of Sliding Messagin Pro (even made by the same people)--except for the funky UI. It looks nice, but it's wonky to use:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.klinker.android.evolve_sms
Handcent is another beloved SMS app…It's been around for eons and is a favorite around here. It's got every feature a bacon-loving man could ever want…but it's butt ugly:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handcent.nextsms
Go SMS Pro -- Essentially on par with handcent. But it has a downside. Even though it's one of the most customizable of the bunch….it takes hours to configure, and even then, just like GO Keyboard, it loves to place big buttons in places you don't want them, and it hides obscure details and features deep within the config and settings….which means that you'll find random numbers and other metadata in your inbox, not really understand what they mean, and then you'll spend the next 20-30 mins trying to figure out how to get rid of them. While this is probably the most-heavily-themed of the bunch, the themes are almost universally garbage. They're unpolished-- the whole lot of them. It's nearly impossible to find a theme that actually skins/themes absolutely everything. Dev's choice of colors, graphics, design is questionable at best. Lastly, the GO Dev team's relentless drive towards integration means that any day now, your app will update and you'll suddenly find out that your SMS app is now your dialer, your lock screen, your camera app, and your flashlight app. Oh…and they'll want you to pay for the "prime" version of every one of those apps-- with GETJAR Gold.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.gosms
Other options:
Hangouts now integrates SMS into your Hangouts inbox.
ATT Messaging App-- will integrate voicemail, SMS, MMS, and a few other things like account notifications into a single box for you…which is really, really nice…but the app is also really, really ugly.
There are also apps like SMS Popup which will give you the chance to respond to an incoming message via a notification action or popup.
Lastly, you can just find a AOSP SMS app, configure it, and then theme it with XPosed's XTheme.
Good luck.

I can't read jamesboy's post, but I think I see a link to a klinker app... Sliding Messaging. Great texting app imho. MMS was a problem until very recently with it, but that appears to be fixed.

I'm having issues with group messaging on my 6P. Unlocked, traditional root, 6.01, Kylo 4.9 kernel. When I use Chomp or Handcent for messaging, groups just don't work. If I send to a group, it sends them as individual messages. And if I'm included in a group, it comes across just like it was sent only to me. I have the MMS options set in both apps to send group messages as a group.
Google Messenger works fine, but I don't care for it.
I've searched and seen this issue on the 'net, but very little discussion about it, which surprises me. You'd think if this were widespread, there'd be a fair amount of chatter about it. Are others having this issue? If not, what other apps are you using for messaging besides the ones I mentioned above, and do they work with groups?
I prefer Chomp, but it does not let me assign separate tones for each contact. The Contacts app I used on my S5 did that, but not on the 6P. I found Handcent does let me do that, and it works well, but I'm not a big fan of the app overall. So bonus points for recommending an app that works on the 6P for groups AND lets me assign different tones to each contact.

Have you tried textra? It has lots of options.
Here's a good article

No, I haven't. I'd read some threads saying it was buggy on the 6P. But I might give it a shot.
