[Q] Fastboot - Galaxy Tab General

Does anyone know how to enable fastboot on the Galaxy Tab? I've been searching and haven't found anything. I know how to enable download and recovery modes. It'd be great to know how to enable fastboot.
Thanks

I think you are in wrong section. Fastboot is for HTC devices not Samsung.
You can use Odin or Heimdall (opensource) or KIES to flash Samsung devices.

Not true. The Galaxy S has fastboot support, as does the Nexus S.
Chances are the Tab does too.

Umm, no Galaxy S devices support fastboot, only the Nexus S. All Samsung phones have a secondary bootloader referred to as Loke. This implements the Odin flashing protocol, not fastboot (excluding of course the Nexus S).

To be honest, I know that the original Galaxy supported fastboot and so does the Nexus S. I rather assumed that the Galaxy S did too!
The point is that it is not HTC only!

Might be able to root through galaxy s method?

Since the galaxy s and nexus s have the same specs and both made by samsung the method of a flashable.zip to root and install busybox might new possible what are your thoughts?
Sent from my Samsung Nexus S
Maybe you could unlock the bootloader as well?
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant
Yup, I'd suggest fastboot oem unlock and then go ahead and flash whatever you like...
i like that idea ^^
Yea its gotta be the same one as the nexus one same kind of software
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant
No the Galaxy S 2.1 .zip method will not work. It doesn't work on 2.2 Vibrant leaks. SuperOneClick / rageagainstthecage does, however.
Either way, thanks to this not being HTC, we will have it rooted the day it comes out (or sooner).
You realize that the n1, an HTC phone, has a neat fastboot command to unlock the bootloader out of box, yeah? Funnily enough that tiny convenient feature is present in the ns.
Bad HTC for making it easy at the request of Google. And bad Samsung for doing the same!!

quick question idk if you can answer it or if you know the answer to it but will this void the warranty like it did on the N1 and will it make a lock appear on splash1 like on the N1?
I wonder if the new method to root the nexus one without unlocking the bootloader would be able to work on the nexus S..

The warranty language is slightly different this time around (uses "may" instead of "will"). The unlocked icon displays when you have it unlocked. It goes away when you run fastboot oem lock -- at which point it is not flashable until you unlock it again.
I have high hopes that Samsung will be reasonable about hardware warranty service.

So the fastboot oem lock command is available on retail Nexus S devices but not on the N1? Interesting... or did I misunderstand you? Also, what partitions do you mean are not flashable after locking it again? Just like it was before unlocking or even more locked?

thanks thats good news i dont OC my phone or anything but i was hit by the dust under the screen issue on the N1 (resolved eventually) and am paranoid about it now
I have one more question will retail phone be lockable or is that only for you special google people with a s-off spl like the N1
@blunden the N1 had oem unlock as well but it said it WILL void your warranty which HTC used that wording a number of times to decline replacing peoples phones, though i know google folks tried to and mostly succeeded in getting HTC to reverse the decision on most phones
and yes he ment when re-locked you cant flash anything because you lose root privlages to flash through fastboot (i.e. fastboot flash clockwork-recovery.img to get a custom recovery and flash update.zip ROMs)
Picking up my nexus s tomorrow will report back

HTC fixed my phone three times with an unlocked bootloader. I hope Samsung is as generous.

You can confirm that fastboot oem lock works on retail Nexus S units? I know Google's internal Nexus Ones had that capability, but it was removed from the SPL in retail models.
Using SuperOneClick won't void your warranty (rageagainstthecage method). I heard it works. Confirm/Deny anybody?

Yes that is correct it does have that capability.
Hook it up to your PC then:
adb reboot-bootloader
Your bootloader will be unlocked.

Download Mode on Nexus S

Hi ,
I turn on Download mode on my Nexus S .
Odin detected my phone , but I haven't Firmware to upload..
Maybe this method will be help to fast root Nexus S in future ?
The nexus s is already rooted.
And there is no reason to use this ever. (just install the rom through recovery)
unless I am missing something????
My objective when I bought the Nexus and sold my Galaxy S was to remove Odin/Kies from my life
I would like to never hear again these words
Ok , but in my opinion root as Odin is simply I look for Firmware with Polish language , but probably does not exist. In SGS I upload Firmware as Odin and I have Polish language. Now I have Nexus S from USA and it hasn't Polish.
You're not going to get a download mode on this device. I appreciate your dilemma, but 99.9% of us are overjoyed we don't have to deal with that methodology. The less Samsung this phone feels the better.
I would post in the Google forums and see if you can get a Google employee/dev to address your request.
Wrong forum.
Odin is really not that bad. Its a really easy way getting back to stock and makes the device practically not brickable.

The Nexus S is "practically not brickable" as well. Flash a new image via fastboot.
Fastboot just as easy to use as Odin, and in fact easier, since it can be used on any platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) and doesn't require Windows-based buggy software and drivers to talk to the phone.
As a Mac owner, I for one am glad to have no need for Odin any more...
To the original poster looking for Polish...the Nexus S is setup totally different than the SGS line of phones. You're not going to be able to push some currently available SGS Polish enabled ROM to the NS and get it to work.
LOL,
Really dude? Odin is pointless, and certainly isn't simple when you compare it with the mere 5-6 lines of terminal commands required to root your Nexus S. Not to mention there's already a 1-click rooting tool out, so unless ODIN can get you a zero-click root, this is just useless.

Wow, I am guilty as charged in that regard. I didn't even notice there was a picture attached!
There's another thread about this right in this forum...it ends with a post from a guy with only one post on xda that says yes, you can get into DL mode. No one asked for more details there...
I tried a couple of known 3-button combos from other devices, and even a "su reboot download" from the terminal. None of them got me into DLM.
I use connector with resistor 301K to turn on Download Mode.

thanks!
yay! my old 301k is compatible
i had a hunch it had to be it
after all the SNS is part of the Galaxy S family
Odin detect 4 ports when you connect SNS.
Is possible move one file (Polish language pack) from SGS to Nexus S ?
I agree with everyone who dislikes Odin. It's almost a surefire way to brick your damn phone because the app is so unstable! I'm no n00b, but I bricked my Vibrant...twice. Never had an issue via fastboot with my N1 or NS. It's so easy, fast, cross-platform...it's darn near perfect.
Coming from vibrant and plenty of expirience ...Its impossible to brick with Odin and Odin is a no brainer easy to use and very quick to use to flash. But IMO no need for it on NS

I heard about heimdall too.
Trying to get the usb to work in wine. Had to install some stupid drivers on my old windows too so...
check it wiki_winehq_org/USB
(replase _ on .)
heimdall seems to be written for the SGS, it might work for our phone too, but that probably depends on how its flashed, ie. the partitioning. If the ops files for both phones are the same (or its the same for what parts of the firmware we would flash) it should work. If somebody has tried it with our phone I'd gladly like to know, since I also use linux (dual-boot) and i would definitely flash more (like I used to) if I could flash in linux.
I'll probably do some research and then try flashing on monday if nobody comes forth with their experiences.
P.S. I guess a virtual machine would also work, if you want to bother with that.
edit: heimdall is not our solution

Sorry Heimdall only supports Galaxy S devices. Unfortunately older series of phones use a different version of the Loke flashing protocol.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 ≠ Google Nexus 4 by LG
Click up in the "Type To Find Your Device..." box above and enter "Galaxy S 4" and click the appropriate one that pops up.
BTW, before you start rooting and flashing ROMs, I suggest you really do you homework to prevent ruining you device, posting a question like this in the incorrect device forum doesn't bode well for you...
If you meant a ROM with a touchwiz UI, then I believe there was something called touchwiznexus or so.

Hardbricked Nexus 4

Hey guys ;
I just wanted to ask , how do you recover from a hardbrick that is caused by a wrong rom flash or something similar. I know zips are usually marked with the device model on the updater script but say somebody mislabeled it. JTAG is "not" an option. I myself never did something like this but i'm curious as to how because my old p920 was virtually unbrickable. Without battery on , the phone could function as a development board which enabled us to emulate JTAG from the usb port. If i remember correctly.
How come Nexus 4 doesn't have something like this considering there used to be hordes of developers working on this device ?
So no access to recovery or fastboot?

First of all, how could you download a ROM for another phone AND install it on a Nexus 4?
Secondly, can you boot into Bootloader?
Thirdly, check the first... oh god....

My phone is not bricked dude.
I was just curious. I know it's very unlikely but it is possible and it happens on samsung galaxy devices a lot because of the variations between international and US versions and some carriers. Somebody mislabels something and poof. dead.
Say the same thing happened to a Nexus 4. How would you recover from it , short of using a Riff Box?

You need not JTAG it. I recovered my hard bricked Nexus 4 which doesn't enter into download or bootloader or adb... It didn't show anything except led blinking 10 times. But, your phone needs to be seen as Qualcomm QHUSB device and a software. I can't post link to that post here.
