Hi ,
I turn on Download mode on my Nexus S .
Odin detected my phone , but I haven't Firmware to upload..
Maybe this method will be help to fast root Nexus S in future ?
The nexus s is already rooted.
And there is no reason to use this ever. (just install the rom through recovery)
unless I am missing something????
My objective when I bought the Nexus and sold my Galaxy S was to remove Odin/Kies from my life
I would like to never hear again these words
Ok , but in my opinion root as Odin is simply I look for Firmware with Polish language , but probably does not exist. In SGS I upload Firmware as Odin and I have Polish language. Now I have Nexus S from USA and it hasn't Polish.
You're not going to get a download mode on this device. I appreciate your dilemma, but 99.9% of us are overjoyed we don't have to deal with that methodology. The less Samsung this phone feels the better.
I would post in the Google forums and see if you can get a Google employee/dev to address your request.
Wrong forum.
Odin is really not that bad. Its a really easy way getting back to stock and makes the device practically not brickable.

The Nexus S is "practically not brickable" as well. Flash a new image via fastboot.
Fastboot just as easy to use as Odin, and in fact easier, since it can be used on any platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) and doesn't require Windows-based buggy software and drivers to talk to the phone.
As a Mac owner, I for one am glad to have no need for Odin any more...
To the original poster looking for Polish...the Nexus S is setup totally different than the SGS line of phones. You're not going to be able to push some currently available SGS Polish enabled ROM to the NS and get it to work.
LOL,
Really dude? Odin is pointless, and certainly isn't simple when you compare it with the mere 5-6 lines of terminal commands required to root your Nexus S. Not to mention there's already a 1-click rooting tool out, so unless ODIN can get you a zero-click root, this is just useless.

Wow, I am guilty as charged in that regard. I didn't even notice there was a picture attached!
There's another thread about this right in this forum...it ends with a post from a guy with only one post on xda that says yes, you can get into DL mode. No one asked for more details there...
I tried a couple of known 3-button combos from other devices, and even a "su reboot download" from the terminal. None of them got me into DLM.
I use connector with resistor 301K to turn on Download Mode.

yay! my old 301k is compatible
i had a hunch it had to be it
after all the SNS is part of the Galaxy S family
Odin detect 4 ports when you connect SNS.
Is possible move one file (Polish language pack) from SGS to Nexus S ?
I agree with everyone who dislikes Odin. It's almost a surefire way to brick your damn phone because the app is so unstable! I'm no n00b, but I bricked my Vibrant...twice. Never had an issue via fastboot with my N1 or NS. It's so easy, fast, cross-platform...it's darn near perfect.
Coming from vibrant and plenty of expirience ...Its impossible to brick with Odin and Odin is a no brainer easy to use and very quick to use to flash. But IMO no need for it on NS

I used Odin and tried recovery.tar file and now I'm getting a screen with a phone icon with a caution icon in the middle and a computer icon after it.
So I think I really messed it up
Any help
the thing is Odin is still connected
and no matter how much i try restarting whether in download mode or regularly same thing is still happening.
So if I can get some help would really appreciate it. I hope it can be restored

Does Odin still see the device? If it does, try to install the stock firmware. It may take some time to find it on the net. The first place I would try is here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 and scroll down the page, put in your info in the drop down boxes and submit.
Thanks, Odin is still recognizing it
the original firmware was the ATT one
this Tab 2 has the 3G version

It is a soft brick and is recoverable. Go to here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=752 and read all the stickies in the general and dev sections. Apparently, you will not find an at&t rom per se, but can flash a new rom and pit, there are some very good detailed instructions available, but first read, and read some more, and some more after that. Apparently, your type of tab had signed bootloader issues, so be careful which rom you load. Also, as I have suggested with my links, go to the correct forum. I'm pretty sure you have a sgh i987, (based on the fact you were running 2.2 on at&t), and not a tab2.

Thanks appreciate all the help AMD o just realise I said this forum instead of this link that you had pointed to earlier. So again thank you. Ok got it on charging same screen as I told you about before that I attached earlier
I've looked for the ROM suggest Euro but no luck, the links were dead
And while typing those last few words it gone back off, so i'm guessing it can only be on for say 30 mins.

Ok, as I suspectef, you have the galaxy tab, not the tab 2, hence this is the wrong forum. Go to the forum I linked to, there are some stickies about rooting, recovery soft brick, etc. My understanding is that overcome rom or p1000 should work, but you must follow whatever odin procedures, etc. they use. Chainfire has a great post up about recovering, however the file links no longer work. Go there and ask if someone has the file(s) you need. This guy lists the files he used from sammobile http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996970 You will not find the files in this forum, this is the wrong forum for your device, this is for tab 2 models 31xx and 51xx, yours is a p1000 branded.
Hi Guys,
I havent used this site in years but recently I bought a Galaxy S4 outright from JBHIFI.
Before you guys give me alot of crap, I have a very bad feeling that I may have hard bricked it.
It doesnt turn on anymore, not even in recovery or download mode. I am very new to android as I was using an iPhone before and couldn't resist attempting to root my phone (stock program were killing my battery)
I hadn't even had the chance to flash a custom rom on there as far as i know i just grated root access.
Funny thing is it was doing the same thing the other day. But randomly it decided to charge and turn on. Now it is definitely not charging or turning on and i have no idea what to do... it just sucks cause i havent ever this phone for a month and its already useless! :crying:
I was using it for about a week after i rooted and now im just stuck with a brick.
Any help would greatly be appreciated, feel free to ask any questions.

sorry... is that just taking the battery out? LOL if so, yes ive tried it quite a few times.
at one stage it was turning on but only loading the splash screen... so i pulled the battery out. even if i tried to start it in recovery mode, it would only load the blue text at the top of the screen and then freeze.
i have a mate who also got an s4 so i was going to meet up with them and see if i could use their battery because it seems the phone has even lost its capability to charge.

No, you don't have to be in download mode. Install right driver, connect your phone to pc and run the program. Then it will be in download mode, so flash firmware with pit file

you mentioned i need to install the right driver? is that the QHSUSB drivers? (where can i find them and are they specific for the S4) anyway when i plug my phone into the computer there is no indication that it is being detected at all.
just hoping to try out more suggested solutions before i attempt to take it back into the store and have em tell me that my warranty is cooked

My galaxy S4 is "hard bricked" as well after trying to flash OMEGA ROM onto the device. My guess is that somebody mislabeled the ROM and it was intended for the octal-core processors and not the US quad-core ones.
Does anyone have a link for the qualcomm drivers that are needed? I'm at a loss currently in regards of which direction to take.
Thanks in advance,

i know... its just frustrating... i pretty much got it when it came out and convinced all my mates that it was the best phone out there at the moment (all the features are pretty nifty and its powerful ill admit)
funny thing was the camera was working perfectly before i took it in and didnt even think it needed replacing. the camera worked when i got it back the first time i opened the app but it had smearing (pink vertical lines on bright objects). after that it the app didnt open again and just has the "camera app failed" error.
as for the hardbrick guys i think the qualcomm drivers work but only if you can get your phone to turn on or enter d/l mode. mine was so fried out that it wouldnt show any signs of life even after getting the drivers.

I use Xposed framework, I don't see that being the issue and how it could cause a hardware failure. I have heard this issue before when tons of people had their S3 died suddenly, there is a big thread of it in its forum.
You'll probably want to wait for the Nexus 5.

Well it would be better if you have a backup phone. It will be based on the LG G2 and gsmarena.com even post is specs, but until it's officially announced by Google it's all speculation.
You could use get the G2, but since it's not the nexus you won't get the same software experience and developer support, price is a big deal as well. Also rumor is the Nexus 5 will support all LTE bands, but that's to be seen.

So this happened to my phone. Brought it to a repair shop and said the EMMC was dead.
Long story short, credit card company refunded the purchase price, I bought a Nexus 5, but I still kept the dead Nexus 4.
Is it possible to buy a replacement part/motherboard to replace this, or is it completely shot (fine with that)?
If it is dead, I was going to recycle it or offer it up for parts. With an EMMC brick, is there anyway to recover any of my personal information that was on the phone?
Thanks!
You'd have to get a new motherboard. Check eBay. No way to get your info off out that I know.
Out of curiosity, what were your symptoms of the phone?. Did you ever try to lock the bootloader and it wouldn't lock?

Motherboard ~$100. Might give it try. The teardown instructions dont' seem too daunting. Do I have to worry about this IMEI stuff?
As for symptoms. I was completely stock, and locked bootloader. I was doing something and then it froze on me.
Went to reboot, and it was stuck on the boot animation (merging dots).
Ended up trying a tool kit to flash the phone. It worked, got back into the system and as it was downloading apps, it froze again.
This time, when I went to reflash, it would error would error with a "failure to write to flash".

Hey guys ;
I just wanted to ask , how do you recover from a hardbrick that is caused by a wrong rom flash or something similar. I know zips are usually marked with the device model on the updater script but say somebody mislabeled it. JTAG is "not" an option. I myself never did something like this but i'm curious as to how because my old p920 was virtually unbrickable. Without battery on , the phone could function as a development board which enabled us to emulate JTAG from the usb port. If i remember correctly.
How come Nexus 4 doesn't have something like this considering there used to be hordes of developers working on this device ?
So no access to recovery or fastboot?

I was just curious. I know it's very unlikely but it is possible and it happens on samsung galaxy devices a lot because of the variations between international and US versions and some carriers. Somebody mislabels something and poof. dead.

If you were to flash the wrong rom and could not get into the bootloader or recovery then the only way I know is jtag.

You can also use download mode, aside from JTAG

My phone is not bricked dude.
I was just curious. I know it's very unlikely but it is possible and it happens on samsung galaxy devices a lot because of the variations between international and US versions and some carriers. Somebody mislabels something and poof. dead.
Say the same thing happened to a Nexus 4. How would you recover from it , short of using a Riff Box?

You need not JTAG it. I recovered my hard bricked Nexus 4 which doesn't enter into download or bootloader or adb... It didn't show anything except led blinking 10 times. But, your phone needs to be seen as Qualcomm QHUSB device and a software. I can't post link to that post here.
So I bought a used Note 4 off Kijiji last summer. (I live near Toronto)
It's worked great until a couple days ago when the screen started freezing up and sometimes even rebooting.
I tried a factory reset and removing the SD card and it is still buggy.
Took it in to a shop today and the guy said it is a rooted phone and has a software problem.
I was under the impression it was a stock Rogers Note 4 when I bought it but I cant be certain.
The guy at the store said it was a Canadian phone but he's not sure what carrier and that could affect what I need to flash it with.
So now I'm not sure where to start. If it's already rooted do I just put a new rom or something on it and hope it becomes stable again?
Any help would be appreciated.
Go to sammobile.com there you can download the stock firmware and google how to flash a new stock rom through odin if you say the phone is from rogers then the N910W8 will be your model (just search it on the firmware search) it dosent matter what rom you are using as long as your baseband is one from your cell provider (There are different ones to choose from make sure you choose the provider you are using and flash that for no issues. When you reflash a stock rom through odin it will wipe anything on it and will return it to factory defaults and you will have a clean new rom now, Good luck reply to this message or PM me if you have any problems.
The best starting point would be Settings -> About Device.
Then look at the Baseband Version. Look for the first five characters i.e. N910F or whatever the "F" character might be. "C" or "H" etc.
Go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and start to type "galaxy note 4", there should be 1 suggestion that matches what your phone said.
Click the suggestion and the search icon.
On the next screen, select you country or provider and then go from there.
You'll need to sign up for a free account, before you can download firmware form the site.
What if the phone isn't actually a Rogers phone originally?
Will I mess it up if I use the Rogers software?
And also if it's already rooted, should I just put on a better rom instead of going back to stock?

safety first, bro.....
if you go with custom ROM, you cant make sure if everything is good, bugs/glitch in custom rom might happened.
go stock first, make sure all is good. after that, its up to you if you want custom rom.
That samsung site is a mess, it says I have to disable adblock but then I just get constant popups and can't download the firmware. When I leave ad block on I get a session timed out error every time I try to download.
Had to switch to edge browser to get it to work and now it's a 2 hour download. Considering the ridiculous amount of ads on this site they're being super cheap with bandwidth. Greedy rich jerk corporation.

Ya it took 2 hours but I got it eventually. Ill try that site next time.
Phone seems better. Not sure it's 100% like it was but I'm playing around with a Moto X for a week and then I'll give the Note a go again.
Turns out the phone is still messed up. Putting the factory rom basically did nothing. Guess I will have to look in to putting another rom on the phone.
Is there an app that makes installing roms easy? Haven't done this in years, hoping for a rooting note 4 for dummies type thing.

Flash twrp recovery through Odin and use it to flash custom roms. For the Note you can choose touch wiz based (my preference to retain all the stock functions) or aosp based (CM and such).
