[Q] flakey network - Galaxy Tab General

Hi,
I'm on my 2nd tab now (1st had a battery fault). Both have exhibited the same issue, so I'm pretty sure its firmware or some other influence. I've seen the problem with both 3G and Wifi, so I'm guessing its the network stack.
When connected to the internet or in the app store I get network errors, the most common is "Web page not available". Clicking retry a few times will often resolve the load. Rebooting the tab will correct the issue (its also snapper at loading pages after the reboot).
Anyone else seen this issue?
Cheers
Jim

I'm not sure I've had the problem with networking issues you describe but I can confirm the battery issue is legitimate having owned Sprint, VZW, and now the T-Mobile version of the tab. The are all extremely slow to charge, and also discharges (or at least it says it is) to 99% even when plugged in.

Wifi to GPRS/3G

I have searched this and other forums and have not seen either this problem or an answer to it. Per AT&T's suggestion, I just upgraded to the new AT&T rom version that adds PTT and seems to have big problems. My current issue is that when I first boot up and connect via GPRS/3G all works well. When I get to a wifi area and switch to wifi, again all works well. However when I leave the wifi area (or just turn off wifi) I can't get any data via GPRS/3G. The balloon comes up saying it is connecting. The little "G" and bidirectional arrows in the top left indicate it is connected. However in the browser, it just continues to grind away with "Locating" in the bottom right corner until it finally times out and puts up a screen that says that the "page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost". I open the connection manager and press and hold the "Data Connection" icon until that goes off and try again, same problem. The only way I can get GPRS/3G data connection to actually work again is to reboot. Any ideas what is going on or how this can be fixed? Forgot to add that this is an HTC 8525. Thanks.
From your description I wasn't able determine whether AT&T's suggestion was aimed at remedying the issue, or if it's something that came about with the update.
Assuming the latter, you may want to try a hard reset first and run it for a bit before loading any other apps. Failing that, reflash the ROM. I had a lot of trouble with my radio when my 8525 was new, but it mysteriously cleared up after a few radio flashes.
Thanks but still a problem
Thanks for your thoughts here. I hard reset and reflashed.
Yes the firmware is the latest one that AT&T has suggested that everyone who had the older Cingular phones upgrade to. It provides the AT&T logo, the "push to talk" feature, and some other junk. I have contacted AT&T about this and their response was to send me a new phone that they claimed had the old firmware, since they have been getting a lot of complaints about the new firmware. It didn't have the old firmware and also it's SIM card reader appears to be broken. I called HTC and they said that they too have had lots of complaints about the new firmware quirks but had nothing to offer to solve them. Anyway, the old firmware had no problem switching between wifi and CGRS so I don't think it is in the hardware. On the other hand I'm surprised that nobody else is encountering the problem from the upgrade.
I'm having the same prob. Purchase three of these phones and the other users have little technical expertise. First I set up a sync with my office PC. Then loaded the ROM update. I run MAC's @ home had difficulty connecting to my home wifi. Finally determined that the 8525 would not accept the 13 key ASCII wep password. Needed to use the HEX. So I connected. Went to work and had problems syncing with my PC. Active sync had to rediscover the device. Now I'm back home and can't connect again. My Device ID changed names upon "resyncing" and I updated the Airport Base Station with my new name. I've spent a lot of time on this issue.. Maybe I need to send em back for an iPhone!
Well I found a solution to it
This is a great forum - though somewhat hard to search through thoroughly. Anyway the solution for me was to go back to ROM 1.34. Found how to do that through flashing from the micro card at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311704&highlight=cingular+8525+rom+version and getting the production ROM version at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades. Back to normal - everything works fine. Just for a trial, I also downloaded ROM V2.1.1 and it works find also - but sure seems a bit large - ends up with 42.9M of storage free vs V1.34 that has 50.25. Think I'll try the the memory expansion process at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298327&highlight=want+more+storage. That seems to at least provide a more than 9 megabyte smaller MBH file but I don't know what that translates to in memory usage yet.
Suspect there is a way to fix this problem but I haven't seen anything in the forums on it.

Inconsistent Connection - sometimes unstable?

Hey i have a 32B UK Vodafone Magic running Cyanogens 4.0.4 stable rom and have had the magic for about a month now.
For some reason my phone randomly loses connection - both 3G and 2G, the drop down notification will just say "No Service" and will only usually restore if i turn on- and off airplane mode.
There are also often times where ill be browsing the internet or the market and while it'll tell me i have 3G/2G, it wont actually "connect" and download/upload data e.g. the market will often tell me it has no connection and web pages will randomly not load, getting the "webpage cannot be found"-like error for no reason. wouldnt be such a bother but it seems to be a daily occurance that spoils an otherwise amazing device.
Is this a common problem? does anyone know how i can solve this if a solution is available (i thoguht it may be to upgrade the radio but i dont know how and ive heard its possible "brick-territory")
hope you guys can help
Hi there, this is getting to be a well known issue on the Vodafone technical forums.
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25796&st=0&start=0
have you read this and posted there?
Would be good from some feedback on here too from "the experts"
I'm having the same problems with my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556843
So far, turning off 3G has stopped it, but that's not really an acceptable long-term solution...
as you say, disabling 3g is not a solution to the problem encountered considering the device and its expected use, its connectivity should at least e stable.
i did not know about the thread on the vodafone forum and read through all of the posts, there didnt seem to be any strict correlation between the other guys devices and the problem itself, some had diff radios, some likely had flashed roms (but theyre not exactly going to mention that on a voda forum).
thanks for the help regardless, i think im going to do some testing of custom ROMs and some of the radios/SPLs to see if one of them may fix it. though again i dont think its a probplem that can be fixed from a ROM/android update alone
I've been having this issue too, i've gone through multiple roms in search of a fix, none of them solved it though. . .
Are you guys having any other issues coupled with this? My phone also won't autosync email anymore. No notifications, then i'll check manually it will find a slew of emails from earlier in the day. It's set to check every 5 minutes, but alas.
same here with a vodafone magic. I have this prob not only with 3g even with wifi. Turning wifi/3g on/off solves this issue. Its annoying though...

[Q]Losing data connection

Hi I wonder if anyone is having similar problems or has any suggestions. I recently got the omnia 7 on Orange.
The problem is that overnight my phone will completely lose its data connection. I will still have voice and text services. It will stay without a data service until I either reset the phone or re-scan for available networks. I've rang Orange and they've referred it to their tech department. It seems strange though as before i HD no problems on my touch HD.
The problem seems to happen between 1 and 2 am every night. According to the last successful email sync. After the connection is lost I have no data symbol displayed next to signal strength either.
Really frustrating
Similar thing happens to me, but it loses connection maybe after 2 days, sometimes after a week.
I never found a solution to this and so it still happens.
Only happens in my flat overnight, well most nights. Some nights it won't happen. I've only had it happen one other time away from here which was travelling up to Scotland thorugh some poor reception areas.
From this I concluded it is a network issue, something to do with the data connection shutting off. More specifically something to do with the crossing between Orange and T-Mobile's network since they started the sharing / roaming.
If i stay in an area with good signal it never happens.
Agree, cause usually I notice this problem when data connection switches to Edge.. I was hoping NoDo will solve this... but no

[Q] uk mz601 xoom 3g connection failure

Hey guys, I'm totally confused what's wrong with my xoom mobile connection. The sim card and 3g work fine when I put the sim into my htc cell, however on the tablet it refuses to work despite the dynamic tray indication (3g changes to hsdpa or to edge, even the up- and download arrows appear), though the indicator color is gray like it doesnt work. I have no idea what's wrong, I tried all the mobile connection settings, still nothing seems to get better. The problem appeared several days after my xoom was updated to official 3.1 (not rooted btw).
It worked fine before and after the update. I rebooted the xoom like 10 times, still no effect, same for factory reseting the xoom twice. In addition, the device network info shows that IP address is unknown.
What can I do to fix the connection? I'd appreciate any help.
seriously guys, no ideas?
I have a similar issue with my Optus MZ601 where it starts H data and then suddenly drops out, ending with the modem seemingly rebooting... Not sure whether this is my coverage in Aus, or whether there are other issues. I tend to suspect "Fast Dormancy" is on and playing a part in all of this, however with out a dialer, there's no way I can do the *#9900# to get into the menu and turn it off to test my theory.
Same problem
I'm having the same issues, It started a few days ago. Updated to 3.1 about a month ago with no problems.
Now I can't connect with 3G. Wifi works fine. tried everything from soft resets to full recovery. My xoom recognizes the sim and shows data connectivity but still can't connect.
Is there a problem with the update?
wow finally I'm not the only one with such problem.
did you guys reinstalled the stock 3.0.1 image? cause that's what I'm intending to do now. the only thing that stops me so far is that I'm not completely sure whether it will void my warranty or not.
I just don't want to find myself with a crippled xoom which moto refuses to take back >_>

Samsung Galaxy J5 crashes when connecting to certain Wifi...

Hello all,
I'm experiencing a strange phenomenon with my Samsung Galaxy J5 (model number SM-J500FN, running Android 6.0.1) and was hoping someone might be able to help!
It works fine most of the time, but stutters and crashes whenever it's connected to one certain free Wifi network. This "guest" network is provided by our local council and is accessible in libraries/leisure centres/schools etc. Other friends with Android phones can use this free network with absolutely no issues, but my J5 slows to a crawl soon after connecting, and is soon unusable. It doesn't even reboot easily, and when it does (eventually), and I reconnect to the network, the exact same thing happens again. The only error message I've seen pop up during the stuttering procedure is "Touchwiz home has stopped working".
I stress again that my phone experiences no issues whatsoever when connecting to *any other network* apart from this one, free Wifi.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Or, more importantly, how I can address this issue? (This free, guest network is prevalent all over the area I live in. Sometimes my phone connects to it in my pocket without my knowledge, and it takes 15 minutes to restart my phone and be able to use it again!)
Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks for reading, all the very best.
P.S. I am by no means a phone expert, so it would be hugely appreciated if you could walk me through any potential fixes, I'm not brilliant with jargon... Thanks!

You can do one thing. Download the latest firmware from Sammobile for your model and flash it using Odin. If there is any problem with your firmware then this will fix it. I also had some problems with my phone's firmware so i flashed the latest firmware from Sammobile and everything was fixed. Sometimes there are some problems with the firmware which come by default with the device at the time of purchasing.
