[Q] uk mz601 xoom 3g connection failure - Xoom General

Hey guys, I'm totally confused what's wrong with my xoom mobile connection. The sim card and 3g work fine when I put the sim into my htc cell, however on the tablet it refuses to work despite the dynamic tray indication (3g changes to hsdpa or to edge, even the up- and download arrows appear), though the indicator color is gray like it doesnt work. I have no idea what's wrong, I tried all the mobile connection settings, still nothing seems to get better. The problem appeared several days after my xoom was updated to official 3.1 (not rooted btw).
It worked fine before and after the update. I rebooted the xoom like 10 times, still no effect, same for factory reseting the xoom twice. In addition, the device network info shows that IP address is unknown.
What can I do to fix the connection? I'd appreciate any help.

seriously guys, no ideas?

I have a similar issue with my Optus MZ601 where it starts H data and then suddenly drops out, ending with the modem seemingly rebooting... Not sure whether this is my coverage in Aus, or whether there are other issues. I tend to suspect "Fast Dormancy" is on and playing a part in all of this, however with out a dialer, there's no way I can do the *#9900# to get into the menu and turn it off to test my theory.

Same problem
I'm having the same issues, It started a few days ago. Updated to 3.1 about a month ago with no problems.
Now I can't connect with 3G. Wifi works fine. tried everything from soft resets to full recovery. My xoom recognizes the sim and shows data connectivity but still can't connect.
Is there a problem with the update?

wow finally I'm not the only one with such problem.
did you guys reinstalled the stock 3.0.1 image? cause that's what I'm intending to do now. the only thing that stops me so far is that I'm not completely sure whether it will void my warranty or not.
I just don't want to find myself with a crippled xoom which moto refuses to take back >_>

Very Unusual Problem 2G Networks Dead, 3G Fine

Well this is a new problem. My G1 seems to have decided it will not register on any 2G networks any more. Tried 3 SIM cards, all the same situation where 3G works fine then 2G fails completely.
I had been experiencing random cut outs on both the WiFi and mobile connections since upgrading to the latest Cyanogen firmware so upgraded to the latest radio. That worked fine for a couple of days but now no dice.
Also worth mentioning is that the device was crashing sometimes when the phone gets too much in the memory (for instance with a couple of widgets running it crashes when you start the camera).
Any advice would be great
Have gone all the way back to stock (and most things in between) in the hope than it was a bad flash but not looking that way
Also had the back off to see if there are any obvious problems (like a loose connection or obvious burnt board), but still no joy. Anyone know what sort of costs HTC would put in to get this sorted?

Network and GPS Functionality Vanished

Hi all,
I flashed my phone, and thought I’d go with Darky's Raw Steel Edition (4.1), which is awesome btw. I installed it correctly, installing I9000XWJM8 first (the MODEM and PDA, not CSC as none seemed to come in the package).
Everything was working smoothly until I realise 3G/Data Network is no longer working (it did previously). Not only that but it seems it won’t connect to my service provider (Three) at all (emergency calls only), and I’ve also now noticed GPS doesn’t seem to work at all, I can’t even get into GPS test mode. Wireless does however work though it being off, or on, has no impact.
I’ve tried:
Flashing different firmware - Stock JM8 and Doc Froyo’s latest JPO.
Hard Reset
Deleting and re-entering APN settings, though they were correct and already on the phone anyway.
Testing my SIM on another phone – signal is strong, inc. 3G on that.
I’m really at a loss here. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
UPDATE: So, I won't bump this myself, but incase anyone finds this thread in the future: the gprs, gps, 3g, etc all work - just not in my house, on the SGS, anymore. I have no idea why - my other phone, it's fine.. and it used to be fine with this phone too. I'll update again if I figure it out.
the other phone works fine with the same sim you are using in the SGS?
Yep, the same SIM works in my old Nokia 6600 fold, people in my house also with Three are getting solid reception right now. 4-5 bars with 3g established.
It worked beautifully all the way home from work on the bus, just not in/around my house.
It's as if the local cell towers near my house have blocked my SGS specifically (can't receive calls or texts either). I did turn the wireless on and off in short succession (which would cause the gprs/3g to try to re-establish each time).. maybe I flooded them and they blocked my IMEI? Or is that just a ridiculous idea?
The real odd thing is GPS not working either (again, just around my house/street); surely it doesn't need a cell site for that?
It does seem as if I can't download apps from The Market anymore either, and have tried various cache clearing solutions to fix it (problem occurred roughly when I noticed my reception was nill).
You might have a problem with the band selection thing of your phone.. have you tried downloading/speed test when you /do/ get a connection? If it seems capped at 40kbps, you might have the same problem I experienced before, of being stuck on 2g. (Despite settings saying otherwise).
I fixed it by doing the solution to having a missing 850 band, the thread of which is found somewhere in this forum.
Thanks. That sort of worked earlier.
It made a slow data connection, and some texts came through.
I then went out to a location a few miles away, had a look and it was still on a slow connection type for a few mins, then all of a sudden it went to HSPDA (with the occasional 3G flicker) and was blistering fast.
Now that I'm back home, I've lost all reception again and can't make/take calls
[EDIT] Clicking around my phone in the hopes of finding something: checked product code in my nv_data.bin file with SGS Toolbox, and it's showing I9000HKDKOR; whilst the backup is showing I9000HKDH3G - could I be on to something? I backed up my efs folder after rooting before doing anything else - so, going to try restoring that.
I have a hunch based on a 2 year old post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445913).
From what I understand, Three UK piggy back on Orange's network when Three's 3G cell towers are out of reach. Orange don't provide Three users with the full service though, just 2G and I'm guessing they prioritise Orange customer traffic.
I think when I flashed my phone, I removed code commanding the phone to prefer Three cell towers. Without that code, the phone simply goes to the strongest/first signal it detects. I'm guessing in the area near where I live, it's Orange (or maybe any old network which is why I'm often getting Emergency Calls only).
This is all guesswork. I'm hopeful, seeing as if I quickly switch the SIM to my two+ year old phone, then I quickly get 5 bars and 3G.. unless the SGS's signal issues really are *that* bad.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831022
Try see if you have the symptom of a missing band?
Hi Nwsk, I tried that before and assumed it didn't work, but actually the change isn't sticking. Which seems to be the case for a couple of others! Thanks for pointing me back to it!
[Edit]
Ohhhh dear. Now I have another theory (I really hope I'm wrong).
I've just read on a thread that some phones don't have the 850 Band, it's down to a lack of hardware support. I'd wager every Three UK branded phone sold will have the correct hardware as stock. I sent my phone back to Samsung for repair, they said they replaced the motherboard.. inference: they replaced it with one without the WCDMA 850 support.
Hmm, I'm definitely no authority on this, since I'm just guessing.. but I figure if that if was a true hardware defect, you wouldn't even be able to get it temporarily?
Are you using any 'battery-saving' type apps? Something might be messing up and keep reverting the settings. I had this occur to me a second time when I was trying out the superpower app here, I think it conflicted with another app I was using, and it borked out my network connectivity. Somehow fixed that after a few reboots, and lots of messing around in the phone debug menu with the 3g/2g thing, it suddenly worked again.
I've not seen it manage to get onto 850MHz WCDMA in my house for a while, not since the mobo got replaced (I should qualify that with a statement on my bad memory ). It will occasionally latch onto something if I walk around the house, giving me a slow data connection with the G symbol showing - it will drop pretty quickly.
Messing around while I write this, I've just realised if I set my phone to GSM(2G) with roaming [Three UK phones need this on so they can connect to Orange towers], then it does establish a data connection at 1800mhz. If I force WCDMA only, I get NOTHING. Setting both/auto leads to it being dodgy/instable, as I've discribed above.
My Nokia 6600 supports 850mhz UMTS, which would explain why it's working well inside my house.
I don't think it's an app. I've flashed a few different firmwares in an effort to get this fixed, it's currently on official Froyo JPO (not even rooted!) with Multi-CSC and a few completely harmless apps. I'd try the stock Three firmware if it was available somewhere.
I'm hoping it's software like you suggest! I will tinker away for now!
Thanks for all the help, at least now I'm fairly sure I'm on the right track!

Constant switching between 3G and 3G+, kills internet

Hi everyone,
I have an omnia 7 on contract with Optus here in Australia. I have had it for a few days now and I've found the data connection to be very patchy, even though I have full reception where I live.
I have noticed the connection icon switching between 3G and 3G+ pretty much constantly when I'm using it.
This is basically what is happening as I try it at the moment:
- Icon says 3G.
- Tried to load the Optus website and the icon changed to 3G+ and the progress bar is just hanging there, wont go any further.
- Icon has changed back to 3G, still hanging.
- Try to load again, now it has changed to 3G+ and the site loaded.
- Icon has changed back to 3G.
- Clicked a link on the website and the icon changed to 3G+, page loaded fine.
- Icon changed back to 3G.
- Tried to load the facebook app, "Unable to connect to Facebook. Please try again later.
- Trying to load optuszoo.com.au again, icon says 3G.. just hanging there again.
- Icon has changed to 3G+, still hanging.
- Icon has changed to 3G, still hanging.
Could this be a fault with my phone? I'm in an area of strong reception, it shouldn't have a problem getting a steady 3G+ connection (I used to have a HTC Diamond which always had a strong HSDPA signal). I can only guess that every time it switches from 3G to 3G+ it loses the connection, which stops things from loading & syncing. Is there anything I can try here before I take it back to the store? I do not have the new firmware, and don't particularly want to try messing with it if I have to return it.
Every Omnia 7 has this problem (as far as I'm aware). It's a connectivity bug with Windows Phone, hopefully it will get sorted in the coming update.

I've got the same phone and on the same carrier and I can't say I have experienced these problems. I've had my phone since october last year and its been working flawlessly when there's a good signal.
When it switches between 3G and 3G+(H), it usually just means the download speed is varying between those 2 standards (i think 3G = about 3Mbits/s, and 3G+/H is about 7Mbits/s).
Only thing I can suggest is turn off your phone, make sure your sim is inserted properly as well as battery, and turn it back on.
If you were on a different carrier with your old HTC, it might be Optus' coverage.

I was on Optus previously, I dropped into the optus store yesterday and they had me on the phone with support. We tried my sim in a different phone and determined it's my handset that is the problem. As the poster above you mentioned, it's probably a firmware issue... but I'm not going to risk waiting for the new firmware to come out because I only have another week to be able to get a replacement.
Had such issues but after I changed my Provider my 3G+ signal ist stable.
Hour handset is being 'elevated' to HSDPA when your using your connection.
When its idle, it will drop back to 'standard'
My handset does this, but i am not getting the data issues your experiencing.
In addition, both my old HTC handsets used to do this, tho the icon actually showed [H] for HSDPA (Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5)
Hard reset your Omnia And/Or send it off for repair/replace
(I am with Optus too)
I'm having the same problem.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy s on Optus.
Constantly changes from 3G to HSDPA, looses connection every time, very hard to use apps that use the Internet.
Seem's to be an optus problem as this is happening with different types of handsets.
Maybe an option where you can select 3G or HSDPA only is needed, they have a GPRS or 3G only option so i don't see why they cant have this aswell.

Yep I ended up taking it back and getting a replacement, but the replacement has the same problem... so it's either software related or network related.
I can confirm this issue too.
It's REALLY annoying.
Is there any temporary fix? I hate this device for the most part, but I love WP7.
I have less problems when I have the phone's sync set to hourly, then it happens maybe once a month that I can't connect with data.
When I had de sync set to manual I almost daily had to reset the phone to get the data connection back, now its on hourly sync again and no problems in the past week..

I have the exact same issue with my HTC Mozart. The signal constantly keeps changing between 3G and HSDPA when I'm in an area that has stable strong reception.
This causes the same DNS issues as stated in IE in which websites fail to load until you refresh them a number of times.
To me it appears that its an issue with IE and the way WP7 calculates and handles the signal. Can anyone confirm if Microsoft have confirmed that there are issues with IE and the signal and when this will be fixed?
I don't know if in my case it's related to the same problem, but on my operator's network it's mostly E and 3G.
After a few times of checking my email, getting the People Hub updated or surfing once in a while, I don't get a connection anymore, except when connecting via wifi.
This is a very annoying problem and the only way to get it back is turning the device off and on daily basis, sometimes even a few times a day D:
I have the same issue ever since I updated the firmware. At first I thought that it is broken internally but it seems to be a universal problem.
Firmware: 2424.11.2.3
Radio: 2424.11.2.2
bootloader:5.2.1.4
Does anybody want to escalate this issue to MS and Samsung? (I understand that several countries are reporting this)
Same problem - HTC One X on Optus.
My phone seems to spend most of its time deciding whether to use 3G or HSDPA, during which time my webpage downloads stop, I can't connect to facebook ("Connection lost - tap to retry"), I can't search Google, etc. etc.
I wouldn't mind if it got on with the job in the meantime, but while it's flicking backwards & forwards between networks I can't seem to get any data down (or up).
Really, really, really annoying. I didn't notice it on Telstra, but I had a different phone (HTC Desire). From the looks of this thread though it's network-related, not phone-related.
Does anybody have problem while calling someone, and when line establishes, there is only silence and dropped call. I had that problem, and I solved it by forcing phone to use only 3G. To do this, go to Diagnosis, and enter *#2263#, then if you want only 3G enter ''WCDMA Band Preference'' - ''WDCMA All'', or for EDGE ''GSM Band Preference'' - ''GSM All''. Automatic speaks for itself. I use 3G all the time, and no more dropped calls. Maybe this could help with 3G -> 3G+ shifting. Only downside is that when there is no 3G signal, you wont get signal at all.

[Q] 3g dropping and data copy issues

Is anyone who activated and use the verizon 3g having a problem with the 3g Data dropping? I'm mostly experiencing random occurances where it will say I have full signal but any app that I go to that uses data will say there is none. If I toggle airplane mode on and off, everything is fine until the next time it does it. I'm going to factory reset when I get home and see if that helps any before taking it back up to Verizon for a swap. I'm also having problems with copying data to the Xoom when connected by USB. It will move a couple of files fine then just stop and hang until it says that the device has stopped responding or is not connected. Any ideas or do I just have a bad egg?
Besides the USB problem.......Im having a lot of problem with the 3G connection. I also have a verizon phone, which works fine but my Xoom does not seem to get any signal what so ever. It shows that I have full signal then in a few minutes the signal drops, then it come back but at x1 signal rate and then drops again, then back at full 3G, this is really annoying me everytime I go to load a page it loads half way then looses connection. Then it works fine on the Wifi connection. So im probably going to go take it to Verizon and see what the problem is. I really do love this thing but this is really pissing me off.

[Q] 3G connection problems after leaving WIFI on Note 3 [UK]

On my Galaxy Note 3, when at home I am connected to my WIFI. When I leave the house or switch off my WIFI the phone seems unable to connect to the network (in this case Three) and the browser, email and any other data apps state they cannot connect to the Internet.
The only way to resolve it is to switch on Flight Mode and then turn it off again. I saw a comment in the reviews for the Note 3's keyboard fix that one other person is experiencing the same as me.
Is anyone else having this problem and do you know of a permanent fix? The only info I can find is a similar issue on the Note 2 at time of launch which look to have been corrected by a patch.
i have this problem so i flashed h3g uk firmware and it kept failing, so i flashed back to uk btu firmware and im stuck with the exact same problem. no idea how to fix either,
p.s my problem only seems to be with google now, play store and sometimes on any app that uses internet i get news feed error no connection ect..
I am on Three network and mine works OK.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Solution
I think I have found a work around to this annoying problem. It was losing the ability to use any data when I left a WIFI spot I was connected to, or when out and about and the phone picked up an open WIFI spot. None of the WIFI advanced options made any difference. It would affect 3G data too, I'd lose all data access until I toggled Flight mode off & on...that was the only way I could get it working again other than restart the phone.
I found a post about a similar issue with the Note 2 when it was first released and it mentioned a WIFI power saving mode. It turns out you can get to this from the SeviceMode screen by dialing this number *#0011# (ServiceMode will start as soon as you enter the second #) - assume it is the same for all. Once in ServiceMode, tap the menu button and chose WIFI. You will then see a WIFI Power Save Mode label with a button underneath. Tap the button to set it to OFF.
I've been testing this all day, normally I'd lose data at least three times, sometimes more, while travelling but so far today everything has worked flawlessly ... no loss of data connectivity. From what I have been reading, switching off power save mode does not affect battery life despite what you might think and I've not noticed any unusual battery drain today so far. So if you are experiencing the same annoying loss of data, try this before you take your phone back. Hopefully this is a software issue that will be fixed in the future.
I swapped the phone
Hi,
I had something similar, except it wasnt wifi related, it happened after I lost the signal for a while (eg, in a lift/elevator).
I tried a new simcard, and that didnt help (also Three UK).
Then I got the handset swapped for a new one at carphonewarehouse, and it fixed the issue, so I put it down to a lemon unit.
cheers
George
on my s4 and n3 i did more than 10 tests each on wifi and 3g with phones simultaeneously, both on same network, both held in my either hands, both using speedtest both connecting to same server, both on the three network sims on the one plan with unlimited internet including tethering (both pans in my name), same location, same times tests were done.
both on 3g and wifi the n3 is MUCH MUCH slower than the s4 both on three network and same wifi
********************* on wifi on 3G
S4 PING TIME 32 to 173 66 to 86
N3 Ping Time 30 - 37 73 to 1110
S4 upload speeds 8 to 17.79mbps 1.65 to 2.27
N3 upload speeds 7.11 to 12.58 1.74 to 3.77
s4 download speeds 17.79 to 22.38 6.61 tp 7.68
N3 download speeds 7.93 to 12.58 mbps 0.92 to 8.04
the numbers are not just it, even during speed tests i was losing wifi connection on the N3 a couple of times and see the same happening on streaming youtube where it keeps stalling on wifi unlike the s4. surely there is something wrong with the hardware of firmware
Looks like the WIFI setting only helped and it has not solved my problem. l now lose network data connection less often when leaving a wifi zone but it still happens. More worryingly on two occasions now I have lost all access to three including calls, texts and data. Toggling Airplane mode brings everything back to life but this makes the service unreliable.
Sometime I also have this problem. This is similar to when I went overseas, I turned off the data roaming, but it always unable to connect to data when I returned. Usually I have to reboot it.

Just got this alert as it was in my spam box hence the late reply.
Had done this comparison video of the note 3 versus nexus 5 WiFi speeds on same router and nexus 5 was giving speeds of up to 50 Mbps and the Samsung galaxy note 3 was giving 0.5mbps plus drop outs! See video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-XvFPwTAGA
The router works fine with my 3 nexus 7 tablets, 3 Tegra note 7 tablets, Samsung galaxy note (original), 2x android mini PC, 2x smart TV's from Sony and LG, 2x smart bluray players from Sony and LG, laptop, smart camera from Samsung, Panasonic stranger, my NAS drives, 2x old HTC desire phones, a few other old phones from Sony and Nokia and media player from samsung and archos, the only device that ever had a problem with any Router is this Samsung galaxy note 3.
Main problem happens when there are open WiFi networks around our you have selected the auto detect in settings. Here is the solution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjL8JbSQCvw and now I get 50mbps with same phone and router! So it was **** Samsung software to blame!
Now I have triple sim adapter in phone and all three give me 3g signal in Many areas.

I have a Note 3 and this always happens to me when I return from travel overseas. I turn off mobile data and data roaming and use Wifi, but am never able to reconnect when I return. The first time I fixed this by rebooting. This time I tried restarting my phone, removing the battery, turning off Wifi Power Saving Mode by dialing *#0011#. Fortunately I was able to fix the problem simply by toggling Airplane mode without having to reboot. Hope this helps.
