How do I update from 2.3.13 ? - Droid X General

What is the best way to update for 2.3.13? I just restored and it keeps saying there is no update necessary at this time.
Thanks Mike

do you mean update TO 2.3.X, or upgrade above it?

If you go to settings--> about phone, what does it say for sysyem information?
If you have removed any quick programs/bloatware, then you cannot get updates. If you can post more information I would be glad to help

(Q) System Update fc HELP

Hey everyone, i am running the zinc 2.1.2 firmware and have ran another one before that and for the past month everytime I click system update i get a fc any ideas of how to fix this? thanks
The ROM you are currently using had ota updates disabled to ensure you don't accidentally unroot your phone. When 2.2 releases you will want to wait for a rooted version and manually update anyway.

Go to phandroid
On the site there should be a topic about Epic's FroYo
The site will provide a link and instructions on how to get the update.
Hope this helps!

I'm waiting also, is there a way to force an OTA update?
I've been clicking update on the phone and it says 'your software is up to date' - i'm still at DI18

If you're running the stock ROM (with root), you still have the ability to check-in for OTAs. If you wanted root, why'd you accept the OTA?
If you haven't gotten the update yet, please download aLogcat off the market here. When you get the notification that an update is available, don't accept it yet. Open aLogcat, press Menu, choose Filter, and type "FOTA" without quotes. Find the line that includes "FOTA_UPDATE" and somewhere in the line should be a URL ending in ".zip". Post that URL to either this thread or this one so that we can all download it, then you can accept and install the update.

Just got update prompt this morning and came here to check up on root after update and saw this. Did what you said for aLogcat, all I got is this:
I/CheckinService( 1512): From server: Intent { act=android.server.checkin.FOTA_CANCEL }
Not seeing any URL, am I doing something wrong?
Btw, I have not updated yet.

checkin successful, but I got the same log result:
I/CheckinService( 1512): From server: Intent { act=android.server.checkin.FOTA_CANCEL }
did it twice, both times got the same above results.....
Has the update actually downloaded yet or is it asking to download? If it hasn't downloaded yet, let it start downloading, then look at the log.

Its asking to be downloaded. It seems like I don't have the option to just download only and install later, as I want to keep my phone rooted, that is why I am little hesitant to update.....
I see the problem... The update does indeed block root access. There is a method at this site for downgrading a Gingerbread G2 to Froyo to get root back, but it was written for the previous leak, not this official update. I have no idea if it still works.

Thank you, rather not risk it.
Having said that, my apologizes as I misread (or blind) but it seems the update downloaded itself, as after reading properly the update has been downloaded and verified (73.1 MB). Must had downloaded by itself to begin with as I have been pressing "Install later" or back button ever since notification.
Guess its too late now. Maybe that is why nobody has been able to post link as it download itself and I am guessing when we are fast asleep, as i got this update in the morning.
Let me know if I can do anything to help, as I would really love to have rooted gingerbread on G2
I believe the update is stored in the cache partition of the internal storage. If you have ClockworkMod installed, you can boot into recovery and wipe your cache so that the next time you start up, it should hopefully download the update again.
About the rooted GB: I would hold off on installing the update for now. Once the download link becomes available, somebody will make a rooted version of it.
Btw battery improvement is amazing

What does it check to block? Can I set ro.secure=1 on CM7 and receive the update? Or do I need to be on 2.2 stock?

With Gingerbread update bad battery drain anyone!
If anyone who has the ota update on there phones notice bad battery drain or has it improved.
For anyone who installed the 2.3.4 update, do you have the CRT animation when turning the screen off?
I don't seem to have it. Was looking forward to it.

[Q] Need to update to normal 2.3.4 no root or custom rom

My phone was set back to 2.2.1 and I need to update it. the question is how? i tried *#*#checkin#*#* and it does the checkin but will not force an OTA. I really hope I don't have to delete all my **** every time I wanna update and have to flash over the rom and all that other happy stuff.

Just received update to ics

I just downloaded the update it fires through the unzipping process, then boots into I am assuming some sort of stock recovery. But then I get the red explanation point on the bee. I waited about ten minutes and I hit the power button. It boots up and tells me update failed. Do I need to unrooted before doing the update? Thank you in advance!

Why you telling you received ics update? Upload the update for us and let see if it is ics , I think isn't .
Man that would be nice.

I have never performed an update on my a500 but I would assume that being rooted would affect the update process. Try downloading OTA keeper from the market. It creates a backup of the root and temporary unroots the device. After the update run the app and restore root.
I an not sure how to upload the update. I will try the other suggestion that was made. I didn't think the updates would happen this early but it said 4.010.00. I will do my best to update this if this is ics?

what version of android is running on your tablet? 3.0.1 or 3.2.1?
I'm betting this is just one of Acers 3.2.1 updates. People are always getting confused with their version numbers.
Sorry to say, but you're being misled by the "Build Number" rather than the OS version. The same happened to me in November.
I have a Gateway tablet (variant of the a500). When I first got it, it upgraded itself to "Build 4.010.02". I was excited, as you are, but it was just the Honeycomb 3.2 upgrade, nothing more.
Again, sorry. It's not here yet. I wish Acer would just list the OS version when telling you you have a system update.
ve4grm is right......it's Honeycomb not ICS.....woulda been nice had it been though...
Dang, well thanks for setting me straight. I still wonder though will I have issues doing the update from my stock ROM?
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
kinz - i was in the same position as you. that build number really annoying!
But i believe ICS from Acer stock would have build number 7 prefix.
Thank you I guess we'll see in about a month.
