If you're running the stock ROM (with root), you still have the ability to check-in for OTAs. If you wanted root, why'd you accept the OTA?

If you haven't gotten the update yet, please download aLogcat off the market here. When you get the notification that an update is available, don't accept it yet. Open aLogcat, press Menu, choose Filter, and type "FOTA" without quotes. Find the line that includes "FOTA_UPDATE" and somewhere in the line should be a URL ending in ".zip". Post that URL to either this thread or this one so that we can all download it, then you can accept and install the update.

Just got update prompt this morning and came here to check up on root after update and saw this. Did what you said for aLogcat, all I got is this:
I/CheckinService( 1512): From server: Intent { act=android.server.checkin.FOTA_CANCEL }
Not seeing any URL, am I doing something wrong?
Btw, I have not updated yet.

checkin successful, but I got the same log result:
I/CheckinService( 1512): From server: Intent { act=android.server.checkin.FOTA_CANCEL }
did it twice, both times got the same above results.....

Has the update actually downloaded yet or is it asking to download? If it hasn't downloaded yet, let it start downloading, then look at the log.

Its asking to be downloaded. It seems like I don't have the option to just download only and install later, as I want to keep my phone rooted, that is why I am little hesitant to update.....

I see the problem... The update does indeed block root access. There is a method at this site for downgrading a Gingerbread G2 to Froyo to get root back, but it was written for the previous leak, not this official update. I have no idea if it still works.

Thank you, rather not risk it.
Having said that, my apologizes as I misread (or blind) but it seems the update downloaded itself, as after reading properly the update has been downloaded and verified (73.1 MB). Must had downloaded by itself to begin with as I have been pressing "Install later" or back button ever since notification.
Guess its too late now. Maybe that is why nobody has been able to post link as it download itself and I am guessing when we are fast asleep, as i got this update in the morning.
Let me know if I can do anything to help, as I would really love to have rooted gingerbread on G2

I believe the update is stored in the cache partition of the internal storage. If you have ClockworkMod installed, you can boot into recovery and wipe your cache so that the next time you start up, it should hopefully download the update again.
About the rooted GB: I would hold off on installing the update for now. Once the download link becomes available, somebody will make a rooted version of it.

Btw battery improvement is amazing

What does it check to block? Can I set ro.secure=1 on CM7 and receive the update? Or do I need to be on 2.2 stock?

If anyone who has the ota update on there phones notice bad battery drain or has it improved.

For anyone who installed the 2.3.4 update, do you have the CRT animation when turning the screen off?
I don't seem to have it. Was looking forward to it.

Sprint rolling out minor bug fix for the HTC EVO 4G

"androidandmedotcom/2010/09/carriers/sprint/sprint-rolling-out-minor-bug-fix-for-the-htc-evo-4g"
While Samsung Captivate owners are grabbing their GPS fix, HTC EVO 4G owners might want to check their handsets for an update as well. Sprint is pushing out a new update (3.29.651.5) today which should address some issue that EVO users have been complaining about for a while.
The minor update fixes the calendar editing and multiple Gmail account sync problems. I have not been able to download the new firmware update yet, but if you want to manually check for the update, follow the steps below. As usual, Sprint is being pretty quiet about the update, so we have no indication as to how fast it will be rolling out to all HTC EVO 4G users.
Manually check for System Update
From the home screen, press Menu
Select Settings
Scroll down and select System updates
Select Firmware update
Engadget is suggesting possible FPS fix...

Will update potentially eliminate Unrevoked 3.21 Root?
I've not heard a decisive answer on this one. But is it safe to assume that a Sprint update will reverse my EVO's rooting via Unrevoked 3.21 or possibly cause problems with the device?
Not firmware update....HTC software update
Wow, there is an update coming out today. Would have never known if it wasn't for all the other posts about this in the correct section......

It'll probably be in your sdcard download or downloads folder. Then usb it or email it to a pc (generic sense) then post it. I haven't tried to load attachments from the evo to the forum, though that would also be a method. You may even be able to use "share"..

DI18 now appearing OTA...I think.

I was just about to go to bed, and my newly-exchanged Epic 4G just popped up an update screen asking me to update to DI18.
Sorry if this is duplicate news, but I heard that DI18 was delayed indefinitely, so I guess they're rolling it out now.

Did anyone else get their phone un-rooted by the update? After the reboot, I tried launching SetCPU, and got an error message that root wasn't available & it was running in read-only mode.
I'm not sure whether I should be happy that I didn't have to unroot it first to get the update, or furious about an OTA update unrooting what was (I thought) a permanent rooting.

Just received notification to update my XOOM what if I am rooted...

If I go through the install what would happen? Would it even allow me? I thought that if you were rooted you would not receive the notification. I just don't want to take that chance to try it and brick my XOOM. I also do not want to relock it and that wipes it to return to stock.
well if I would guess, since I haven't received an update notification yet, it will probably update just fine, but could remove root. Since it is an unlocked device, if it is unrooted by the update, it shouldn't break the ability to root.
tl:dr it's probably safe
So did you update?

What did you test to see that you're still rooted? Just running Superuser makes it appear I'm still rooted yet I get 'permission denied' when running su in terminal and any program that relies on root can't get root access.
Was a quick fix though, just had to run the line 'adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su'
Ok, just to let you guys know that I had lost root when I did the update. All I had to do was re-root my XOOM and everything is good to go now I have root access to SetCPU and RootExplorer
Just received ota also and I'm rooted. Same thing happened with me, still unlocked but lost root. Hopefully all releases go this way

Still on 2.3.2

Maybe there are some threads about this topic, but for some reason I can not find them, so I decided to ask here:
Is everybody who is using stock rom on Nexus S already on 2.3.3?
I am still on 2.3.2, because the OTA did not reach me, yet.
I know, Google said that it will take some weeks, but the was a lot of weeks ago.
I am dialing the *#*#2432546#*#* at least once per week, but no luck.
I don't want to root and and push it manually.
Anyone else in the same situation?
you don't need root to push it manually.
you just download the .zip from "2.3.3 links" thread, rename it to update.zip place it on the root of your sdcard.
boot into recovery, install update.zip from sdcard
reboot... grats on your 2.3.3
i think for the nexus s you don't need to rename to update.zip. i didn't have to for 2.3.2
I'm still waiting too I had my nexus s since January what's really good
There had been reports where people aren't getting the ota anymore. So manually update or don't get it at all.

I believe they abandoned it and opted to push a newer update which would be released in April. But its almost May so who knows.
The manual update is incredibly painless. I don't understand why people are insisting on OTA.
Quick question regarding the manual update. Will I get future updates OTA after manually updating.?

yes its the same file you get from the OTA.
manual update was painless
I did as suggested, and it worked just fine.
I actually like the new color scheme. It looks more natural to me.
BUT, every time i wake up my phone from stand by, I get to see the GPS icon blinking in the notification bar.
Sometimes, even WiFi switches on itself.
I never saw this behaviour on the 2.3.2 build.
Is this the phone trying to update its location?
I don't want to switch off GPS or Networkin the Location & security settings, as I use Google maps multiple times a day.

Manually Check For Updates on your XOOM

Just FYI anyone waiting for the xoom update it hasn't been successful for me yet but i will try every couple of hours. If you manually set the date to a farther ahead date say a couple days your xoom will check for an update. i noticed the time changing everytime i do it under system updates. So anyone wanting to force an update check change the date you can always just re check auto time.
Poop I Want it now.... is it including the bluetooth mouse support?

dev forums mention that you loose SU and have to redo the rights but then good to go.
just did this as well, tried it two times in two minutes.
First, nothing happened but the time changed for the last update.
Second time when I clicked the system updates under settings it popped up saying I had a new update.
Downloading now, well see how my rooted wifi only handles it!
Just finished... And nothing happened. I am still on 3.0.1, this happened earlier when I got an update notification and clicked install now or whatever.
Anyone know why this might be?
3.1 has a "check now" button.
The OTA update won't go through if you're rooted. Flash using one of the methods in the development section, or return to stock and wait for the OTA all over again (which is what I did.)
Did anyone update and not have it work? I installed the update and everything seemed to go well but after I checked about tablet section and it still says that it is 3.0.1. I am rooted running an older version if titamat. Haven't messed with it yet, at a first communion but was hoping someone had this problem
