"androidandmedotcom/2010/09/carriers/sprint/sprint-rolling-out-minor-bug-fix-for-the-htc-evo-4g"
While Samsung Captivate owners are grabbing their GPS fix, HTC EVO 4G owners might want to check their handsets for an update as well. Sprint is pushing out a new update (3.29.651.5) today which should address some issue that EVO users have been complaining about for a while.
The minor update fixes the calendar editing and multiple Gmail account sync problems. I have not been able to download the new firmware update yet, but if you want to manually check for the update, follow the steps below. As usual, Sprint is being pretty quiet about the update, so we have no indication as to how fast it will be rolling out to all HTC EVO 4G users.
Manually check for System Update
From the home screen, press Menu
Select Settings
Scroll down and select System updates
Select Firmware update
Engadget is suggesting possible FPS fix...

Will update potentially eliminate Unrevoked 3.21 Root?
I've not heard a decisive answer on this one. But is it safe to assume that a Sprint update will reverse my EVO's rooting via Unrevoked 3.21 or possibly cause problems with the device?
Not firmware update....HTC software update
Wow, there is an update coming out today. Would have never known if it wasn't for all the other posts about this in the correct section......

How bout somebody who can get it download it but not install and post it here so me r some other dev can root it so nobody has to worry about losing anything
It does unlock 30fps but I wonder if the kernels we have now are still better? I have no problems whatsoever with Kings#9.

It'll probably be in your sdcard download or downloads folder. Then usb it or email it to a pc (generic sense) then post it. I haven't tried to load attachments from the evo to the forum, though that would also be a method. You may even be able to use "share"..
So can I install this on my full root fresh Rom and be good to go, or do I have to wait till fresh puts out an update.zip with this included?

The Unrevoked folks have confirmed the update fixes the 30fps cap:

^^ I said that one page back. Confirmed earlier in the day by Androidcentral and Engadget
I just got the OTA update! I'm not too possible if it's Froyo or some other update. I'm currently on stock JFD FW.
How do I check if it's froyo update before I update?

OMG lol, if you are running JFD it is prob JI6
Oh, ok =/
That sucks, I thought they killed JI6 OTA's?
If your on JFD it's probably just the JI6 update. TMO still hasn't finished pushing JI6 to all the Vibrants.
I thought they did too, but who knows.
And I'm not trying to be mean or bash anyone but why do people get a message saying there's an update and don't do it, they come on here and post they got it. Do the update and check the Phone Info and see.

They did finish with the JI6 OTA, it was only sent through October.
I called several weeks back telling TMO that I didn't get the JI6 OTA and the rep told me that I missed the boat and that I would need to wait for the "New OS update being released later this month, which is better than JI6"
Take it for what it is....
OP... Just update it and check About Phone and tell us what it is
I bought a second Vibrant on 11/11 and I received JI6 on that phone on 11/13. So, it would seem their not done sending JI6, because my update was not Froyo and neither is the OPs, which he said he just received.
So could it be froyo? Because like I don't think t mobile worker push out ji6 again should they? Again i could be wrong.

If you're running the stock ROM (with root), you still have the ability to check-in for OTAs. If you wanted root, why'd you accept the OTA?
If you haven't gotten the update yet, please download aLogcat off the market here. When you get the notification that an update is available, don't accept it yet. Open aLogcat, press Menu, choose Filter, and type "FOTA" without quotes. Find the line that includes "FOTA_UPDATE" and somewhere in the line should be a URL ending in ".zip". Post that URL to either this thread or this one so that we can all download it, then you can accept and install the update.

Just got update prompt this morning and came here to check up on root after update and saw this. Did what you said for aLogcat, all I got is this:
I/CheckinService( 1512): From server: Intent { act=android.server.checkin.FOTA_CANCEL }
Not seeing any URL, am I doing something wrong?
Btw, I have not updated yet.

checkin successful, but I got the same log result:
I/CheckinService( 1512): From server: Intent { act=android.server.checkin.FOTA_CANCEL }
did it twice, both times got the same above results.....
Has the update actually downloaded yet or is it asking to download? If it hasn't downloaded yet, let it start downloading, then look at the log.

Its asking to be downloaded. It seems like I don't have the option to just download only and install later, as I want to keep my phone rooted, that is why I am little hesitant to update.....
I see the problem... The update does indeed block root access. There is a method at this site for downgrading a Gingerbread G2 to Froyo to get root back, but it was written for the previous leak, not this official update. I have no idea if it still works.

Thank you, rather not risk it.
Having said that, my apologizes as I misread (or blind) but it seems the update downloaded itself, as after reading properly the update has been downloaded and verified (73.1 MB). Must had downloaded by itself to begin with as I have been pressing "Install later" or back button ever since notification.
Guess its too late now. Maybe that is why nobody has been able to post link as it download itself and I am guessing when we are fast asleep, as i got this update in the morning.
Let me know if I can do anything to help, as I would really love to have rooted gingerbread on G2
I believe the update is stored in the cache partition of the internal storage. If you have ClockworkMod installed, you can boot into recovery and wipe your cache so that the next time you start up, it should hopefully download the update again.
About the rooted GB: I would hold off on installing the update for now. Once the download link becomes available, somebody will make a rooted version of it.
Btw battery improvement is amazing

With Gingerbread update bad battery drain anyone!
If anyone who has the ota update on there phones notice bad battery drain or has it improved.
For anyone who installed the 2.3.4 update, do you have the CRT animation when turning the screen off?
I don't seem to have it. Was looking forward to it.
I just turned on my tab and it alerted me of an update. It says system update 4.010.13 and its 14.49 mb. Anyone know what this is? And I also ask because I'm rooted and wondering if I should accept the download. I know with my phone being rooted and running custom roms, I never receive updates. So I'm not sure what to do with this one since I'm rooted and if that has any effects on system updates. Any ideas what it is and if its okay to take the update.
With stock roms you still get updates. But don't update that way, it wont work if you have clockwork recovery. There is a link for the update in the general section of the iconia forum, sorry I don't have the link. So find the link and install it through cwm and you should be good. I have been running .13 for 2 months with no problems so its stable.

I looked through several pages and didn't see anything about an update. Are you talking about the general section here? Where I posted this question.
I also got this update but it fails to apply due to cwm being the recovery image. Where do the updates actually download to anyways?

Yeah, it should work just fine. It'll update her's from Froyo to this Gingerbread build and when the official version is released by Verizon/HTC, she should not have any problems updating.
If I were to use this and decided to go back to MR2 would that be possible, or would I be stuck on gb till official release? I am unrooted running MR2

Good question! I'm assuming the OP just means that it's "official" in that it was made by HTC and hasn't been modified. I haven't read anywhere else that the 2.11.605.0 release will be the OTA release.

They will be termed "buggy" in my opinion until the VM notification is fixed. If you're using this phone in a business environment it's more "catastrophic" than "buggy".
Google Voice is a good alternative. Kinda glad this bug was in these builds cuz it got me using GV

Agree, How do we know this is the Official.. There is a lot of speculation data available I.E. Possible the 30th is the day etc. but a concrete answer would be helpful for your post.
A lot of people throw around the term official as a way of saying, an unadultered leak.

I beg to differ. I've gotta bug (that could be the result of user error, but I don't think so) When I get a call, no one can hear me unless I'm on speaker or Bluetooth. I haven't seen any posts from anyone else with that issue, but it's been only since I flashed this leak.
Edit: I noticed someone else had the same prob on the previous build and wiping then reflashing fixed it. My 4g is working much better... Hopefully voice and sporadically missing texts are fixed too.
