[Q] Where do I begin? - Streak 5 General

Ok so I have been reading all over this forum, and yes I'm a noob to this. Now here is what is going on. I just purchased an Dell streak that came rooted and updated with a custom rom of 2.2. Now what I'm trying to do is just wipe the phone start on a clean slate and upgrade to and official 2.2, but because the phone has the clockwork recovery and is on a custom firmware. I just can't go to the Dell site and update. It allows me to download but goes no where after that. Now I'm an iPhone user so when I jailbreak I can just restore and start over. On here I'm reading you need the 309 recovery, fastboot, downgrade and many other things. Most people will say you have what your looking for in your post but If so I'm not getting it. If I don't know what firmware was prior to the 2.2 how do I know what to downgrade to. Or can I just take off clockwork and will it allow me to update the phone through dells site. Can there be a way just go update to official and overwrite what ever is on this phone? So could someone shed some light on this situation...

Search the forum for 309 recovery Ive posted it a couple of times so its on here then put the 318 update on SD card and go into recovery and flash the file
The update file will only flash if you have the correct recovery and the recovery for the latest from dell update 318 is recovery 309
Hope that helps

ThankS I'll see if I can figure this out

im trying everything and cannot figure out how to fastboot. I got it in fastboot mode but now says please insert disc that came with your android 1.0 where do i get this!!

Download the pdf in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776883

i just dont know what to do, this is the oem rom update and why the unit is not able to find the update in the sd card?
This post isn't about development, you posted the same thing in multiple places, and you can't install the AT&T update with clockwork, you need the stock recovery.

Please god, Ive been stuck on this **** for 14 hours now. SOLUTION PLEASE!
I've experience rooting/roming over 50 phones, and this is getting irritating!
CWM doesnt flash .pkg's, and I'm coming in way to late in the process to understand this QueTip program or w-e. A simple stock recovery flash tutorial n link would be amazing.
this will happen too when you flash it over 2.2 already but in your case your on 16 ryt?i would suggest google search for the stock 1.6 6601 recovery image and flash it and then flash clockwork and then apply the update.
try to look here.

whats your baseband prior to this update?
I suggest that you use streakdroid recovery to make a nandroid backup before you revert to the stock recovery,
Download stock recovery from here. Make sure it is on your computer in the same folder as fastboot.exe
Excerpted from this streakdroid guide:
Shut down your Streak, then hold down the camera button (all the way) as you turn it back on.
The screen should turn white; press ‘Fastboot’ in the top right hand of the screen.
Plug in the USB cable – the Streak should now display ‘FASTBOOT_MODE’ at the bottom of the screen.
Open a command window and use ‘cd’ to change to the same directory as qdltool.
Run: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
Run: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
Either rename the file you downloaded to recovery.img or change the name of the file to flash in step 5 to match the file downloaded.
Boot into recovery and you should now have a stock recovery.
You can boot your phone and try downloading and installing the OTA upgrade or you can place the upgrade file on your SD card and name it upgrade.pkg and try to install it using the stock recovery.
I suggest that you use streakdroid recovery to make a nandroid backup before you revert to the stock recovery.
Make sure that any ROM you try to install on your phone is appropriate for your hardware and carrier.
I personally was on the 318 build of 2.2... Downgraded to O2 2.1, then to O2 1.6, then to AT&T 1.6 with the BB downgrade... then upgrade to AT&T 340 2.2, its not that hard... get to stock AT&T 1.6 and leave the 340 "update.pkg" in the root of the SD card.
Instructions to get to AT&T 1.6 here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8558692&postcount=4

If you are not on at&t's 1.6 than this is your only option. Also your only way to go back to the 1.6 is using essentially same steps as above. So just make sure fastboot is set up and follow the steps listed above. It will work regardless of os you are running now. I just did it and I was on dj steve's 1.8. On a side note how is the upgrade working for you?(those that installed it)

i have fastboot
Yeah my installation came up with an error and it would not boot after it was applied so previously posted stock recovery does not work. So what you have to do is follow the steps to go back to stock at&t 1.6 rom. Here are the directions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8558692&postcount=4
I am in a process of doing this now so i'll keep you posted. However, once you do the downgrade from the link above you should be able to just install latest at&t rom without any problems. Hope that helps.

Evo 4.22 Stock Recovery

Could someone please point me in the direction of where I can get the Evo 4G 4.22 stock recovery image?
Stock recovery is no recovery, what exactly are you looking for?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I am rooted and have CWM installed. I am looking to put back the stock 4.22 recovery so I may install the the 4.24 OTA update.
I like to keep my Rom stock and prefer to install updates via OTA.
If you take the 4.24 OTA you will no longer be "rooted" Look for one of the rooted ROMs and flash it
Yeah,what he said
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I am using the Unrevoked root method and no update (3.70,4.22) to date has unrooted my phone.
I have simply been restoring the current version of the stock recovery, which I have previously found on the internets, and then running the OTA update as normal. Once done I install CWM and the latest SU updates. Works great.
I would like to perfrom this method once agian to install the 4.24 update and all I need is the 4.22 stock recovery.
If you don't want to be rooted anymore, then just accept the OTA - it'll override your current recovery with the stock recovery, which is actually a lack of recovery.
But as others have said, you won't be able to root again unless you've ran unrevoked or unrevoked forever and remain s-off. In that case, you'll have to flash a recovery and then flash the rooted version. So if you want to stay rooted, you might as well go ahead and do that. You should be able to just wipe cache and dalvik and install, so the end result will be the same but you'll be rooted.
I hope that made sense...

You probably want this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379
This is the actual update, but rooted, so you can keep your CWM recovery, get the latest update that was made OTA, but remain rooted. You don't want to just accept the OTA if prompted, your root will go away.
Once you've downloaded it (and the radio update as well), follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14933526&postcount=31
Thats the problem. I cannot install the OTA 4.24 update with CWM installed, nor can I install the update manually, via renaming and then update method, as it will error out during install.
OTA updates will only install if the proper stock verion of recovery in installed, hence I really need the 4.22 recovery.
Installing OTA updates when using Unrevoked does not change S-OFF, it only overwrites SU which can be easily reinstalled. I know as I rooted my evo way back when it was version 3.26 using unrevoked 3 and have installed every OTA update since using this method and still have S-OFF
Thanks, but I do not need to go that route. My method will update as normal and I wont have to wipe my phone.

And you won't be rooted anymore. There are only about 3 thousand posts telling people this, and most AFTER they found out the hard way. There are stock Rooted ROMS based on the recovery, as in STOCK! but still rooted, and up to date.
BTW, there are also a lot of posts detailing how the OTA made their phones worse, but if you want to be a hard head, go ahead and bury yourself, but don't come back crying when you figure out.
how come every other incompetent noob can manage to get their phone back to stock and permanently locked/unrooted, yet I cannot manage this feat intentionally?
if I intentionally flash the 4.22 zip from shipped-roms will this eliminate my root and recovery?
well install the 4.22 update from recovery didn't work... it aborted with some error.
ARGHHH!!! SOMEONE HELP ME LOCK MY PHONE PLEASE!!!
I appreciate the heads up, but if done correctly, it does work and has worked great for me the past few OTA updates.
I am aware of all the potential problems and am not the only one successfully installing OTA updates on a rooted evo and staying rooted.

Bottom line is if you change back to S-ON, and apply the OTA you lose root forever (or until Unrevoked finds a new backdoor). If you leave S-OFF then you can downgrade, and reload a recovery. The stock ROM's you'll find here (ex. Sprint Lover's) are stock, and rooted. They pretty much the same thing you get over the air. Don't be a lid..
I downloaded a from shipped roms the last rom for my evo and downloaded the s-on tool. Ran the tool then connected my phone to the computer and ran the RUU i donloaded. Fully stock unrooted locked phone
I am a noob
First learn the correct terminology for what you are tying to achieve. There is no 4.22 recovery that you can just flash, there is a 4.22 ROM and a 4.22 RUU.
Then check out the WIKI and FAQs these both contain the info you are looking for .
Not trying to be mean. Just do some research before you mess up your phone and come here asking for stuff that doesn't exist.
4.22 ROM = just the ROM
4.22 RUU = .exe that runs on your PC to FLASH your PHONE with new radio, recovery, hboot, rom, etc

Are these flashable via Streakmod recovery?
Try this link. If you click on the folder (baseband number) for the ROM you are interested in you may find an update.zip package. You can flash that with StreakMod Recovery. I would not suggest doing this to change a ROM, only to re-flash what you already have, if needed.

Are these .zips pre-rooted?
My Streak doesn't seem to like any custom ROMS. I can't get any stability, no matter what I try.
351 didn't flash via Streakmod recovery.
Do I need to flash the Dell recovery for 351 to go back?
The stock roms are not pre-rooted.
Read this: Radimus’s Universal Guide to Flashing a ROM
Best way to revert to stock 351:
Grab MultiRecovery Flasher
Download the 351 .pkg file from the Streak Wiki
Put the 351 .pkg file on the root of your Streak's external sd card and rename to update.pkg
Use MRF to flash the 351 recovery
Use MRF to reboot the phone
Do not let it reboot completely, as the phone starts to reboot hold both volume buttons to go directly into recovery
Select #2 to apply the 351 update.pkg
When it completes the install and the phone reboots you will be back to stock. If you want to root I recommend the superboot.zip method, and don't forget to install busybox and update the superuser bin and app files from the superuser app.
Make sure that your read and understand Radimus’s Universal Guide to Flashing a ROM. I also recommend reading this.
Edit: superuser.zip includes busybox.

just a small question here, what Baseband are you on? cuz what you're seemingly up to requires additional baseband flashing through Fastboot-commands or the MF flashing assistant mentioned earlier within the Development Area of Dell Streak at XDA.
Please do note that you're request could be moved towards another forum, due to the fact that it doesn't relate to any 'real' development, no offense, but it is what it is.

Yeah, I'm sorry. Perhaps the mods could move it to the Questions section.
I thought I posted it there. My mind is fried after spending two days on this.
Coming from stock 351 with stock baseband.
Tried to flash 1.9.1 via streakmod, now I got nothing but looping boot screens.
Tried a couple other custom ROMs too via streakmod, but nothing worked. Nothing.
Trying to flash back to stock. Now, I can get the stock 351 recovery on, but that's it.
The dell recovery sticks at a blank screen.
I'm about ready to chuck it. I've never been so frustrated by any flashing process in my life. HD2, Vibrant, Galaxy, you name it. They were all cake compared to the Streak.

The best way to get the baseband you need on the Streak is to flash the stock rom associated with that baseband. That makes sure that all of the OS parts that aren't replaced by StreakDroid or another custom ROM are in sync.
And yes, this thread should be in Q&A

Is there a guide to flashing back to stock 2.2.2 anywhere that you know about?
So far, I had stock recovery, went to Streakmod recovery, then back to stock after my flashing didn't turn out well.
No offense to the chef's but I just can't seem to find a way to make any custom ROM work with my Streak.
I'd just love to be back where I started and any help would be greatly appreciated.
The searches I've done have turned up stock Donut re-flashes. I don't want that.
So rar, recovery for both Streakmod AND 351 hangs on a black screen after selecting "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" in the menu
No Dell Logo appears at all. I get a black screen (backlight on, just black). Since I get no logo, I'm not presented with the Recovery Menu
I'm burned out.

After I get the recovery flashed and reboot with both vol buttons held down... select update and I get a blank screen. Nothing.
I think my Streak is a paperweight.
Once in recovery hit the power or camera button ...to pop up the menu
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Just to follow up on my own post.
The problem was caused by having a stray file named update.pkg in my sd card at root level.
This hosed everything, literally, so recovery was not an option under any circumstances, even though it was flashed. I still got a black screen at startup, no matter what... even when pressing the correct button sequence as noted. I just didn't get to the Dell logo where the camera button would get me recovery.
I had to use QDLTool3rd to reinstall EVERYTHING and then I could install Dell recovery and flash.
Now, I'm rooted and restoring from backup.
Thanks XDA!

[Q] Need help with unroot and return to stock

I need some help unrooting and returning to stock. I rooted the device using the method of returning back to 3.1 and flashing the unstable rom then installing iconia root then acer recovery to install CWM. After rooting I did not make a backup of my device so I have lost the original rom. This is an Acer Iconia A500 with 8gb internal storage bought from Best Buy on black friday. I've read through many forums in the development area but since I have not posted enough times I can not ask a question there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, when you run a full package stock rom, it should put your tablet back into stock condition. This will remove the custom recovery, just like it did when you downgraded.
You can find a list of the stock roms based on region at this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
Vache put some instructions there, and it's pretty simple.
Sorry, I'm new, and have the same question.
I am confused, for clarification ....
If you are unrooting and have Clock Work Mod Recovery what do you have to do?
I used Acer Recovery Installer from the market to install clock work mod. If I am unrooting and returning to sock, should I use the option to install "Stock USA 1.41.07_COM_GEN1 recovery" before flashing and then use the power/up button combination? Is it Ok to use Clock Work Mod to install one of the stock roms from the SD card or will Clock Work Mod cause a mess?

Vache has simple instructions on that page. As you read, it says to extract the update.zip file, put it to sd, then hold vol- and pwr. It should flash the rom, That's for the update zip..
However, I would use one of the full set roms.
When the stock rom runs, it should overwrite the CWM recovery, and re-instate the factory bootloader.
Here are the instructions direct from Vache's page for full rom.
"Here are some full packages, updates and EUU firmware from Acer OTA server and from some magical sources.
Full package and updates should be flash via the recovery.
EUU version are working in APX mode with nvflash. (you can enter in APX mode by booting the tablet with Reset / Power pressed)"
Now, what other recovery do you have to flash a full rom?
NOTE: I have not and have no plans to revert to stock. So I've never done this. You may want to post a question also in that thread to see if you can get any extra info.

You could also use the Downgrade tool with the original downgrade images. The original downgrade tool will put back factory recovery and factory stock. This would be everything you need to be totally stock. Once you get to stock, then you can just apply the OTA's if that's what you want. Or are you trying to get to stock and then root?

Yeah, I keep forgetting about your tool.
I think they just want to get back to a stock condition without cwm and root.
You may want to post a link to the tool.
Finally got it. Used the Acer recovery tool to flash Acer stock recovery image and then extracted the update zip from the full package and put it on my SD card (made sure it was the only zip on the card) then redooted into recovery by holding down the volume up key and the power button. Update flashed and all is back to stock. Reasons for doing this were that I could not find a ROM that seemed like it was a real improvement over stock. My favorite would have been Thor's ROM mostly due to the ice cream sandwich tweaks and the ability to clear the recent apps drawer. May go back to root but wanted to know how to get back if necessary. Thanks for all the help.

Glad it worked for you!
Vache should be a touch more clear on "which" recovery to use for the full package
Although it seems people used both CWM and Acer Recovery. (he just states "recovery")
Glad you cleared that up

@sydeu, you probably want to run Acer_A501_4.037.01_EMEA_TMPL. Note this is for the 501 so not sure if you are looking for a 501 or 500 stock rom.
I run it on my 501, and it has svetski lauguage support.
I think you can use any of the EMEA roms. You can unpack or decrypt the roms before flashing, and check the ldb files (system\usr\xt9\databases\ldb\) You should see an ldb that usually starts or contains "Sv". I think these are related to the keyboard, but it will have system support for the language.
Not all roms and updates are listed there, those are just the ones people were able to find. So get the one that's closest to your needs.

Complete return to stock woes

Hey peeps
Ok so here's what I had:
A500 with ICS unlocked bootloader, CWM 10.1 and Thor recovery.
I've upgraded to a Samsung note and now want to flick off my A500. But before I do that I need to return to complete stock. I followed another websites guide (stupid me XDA all the way!) and now ended up in a pickle!
What the other website recommended was to download the OTA ICS (which I already had) and flash it like a normal ROM. I did that and the bootloader is still unlocked and I am not able to gain root on the custom ROM to repair the recovery (which gives me the little android on his back with red "!").
So here's where things get tricky. I can't regain root because ADB isn't detecting my device. I've tried every tool in blackthunders bag of tricks and they all come back saying "Done" but they don't actually work. I do have ATX mode and fastboot.
Can someone please help me figure out how to:
Get ADB working
Load stock bootloader
Get stock recovery back?
Thanks in advance!
PS: I've tried searching the forums and followed a number of threads and how to's but none seem to work for me
Ok update on this. I'm such a moron! I removed ADB drivers and re-installed. Once I got ADB working I simply used afterota (forgot I had it!) to flash stock and then do the update.zip trick
