How's your battery status after the last facebook update?
From what I'm seeing facebook is holding a partial wakelock for the whole time
Is this happening in any situation?
Removing the facebook account from the phone fixes the problem... but would like to keep it in...
now I'm trying with the notifications disabled...
FB has the highest partial wakelock use on mine, but it's not massive, it's bar is about 1/5 full.
but the timing is embarassing compared to other apps :/
to me it looked that the android system wakelock were very high too...
i'm trying to see if the notifications disabled it lowers down...
How can I check this?
*#*#4636#*#*
then select "battery history"
Or use Anycut to create a shortcut to the 'Testing' app.
same here.. uninstalled.
No problems here.
41 seconds total.
Although I would LOVE to be able to turn off the Facebook push notifications. Despite having disabled everything inside the FB app, they still get pushed to my phone, which drives me ****ing crazy.
I suspect having everything turned off would be why you have a very low wakelock?
Mine is very low. I set facebook to never check for updates since the last release added push notifications. I don't think polling for updates is necessary anymore. No clue why it even has the option still.

Status updates aren't pushed, I'm guessing that it'd fry the servers. So if you want your synced contacts to display their status in the contact popup you have to poll them.
Somehow the iPhone and Blackberry apps are able to use push notifications properly without frying anyone's servers. Email and SMS notifications can also be sent out instantly. I'm pretty certain there is no technical reason why the Android app can't work right.

The news feed updates don't get "pushed" to either of those devices. The polling frequency is for updating the news feed which you would want when using the facebook widget.
I'm not interested in wall updates getting pushed. Notifications get pushed to those devices, and that's all I expect from the Android app.
Newbie question, what is a wake lock and how does it drain battery?
killing the facebook app solved my problem (not only facebook where being very "active"... but also the "android system" was kept constantly awake!!)
in the usage history the system was basically never sleeping... running the whole time :/
as for now I started facebook again... and disabled the notification thing... let see what will happens...
I can confirm that disabling the notifications "fixed" the problem... no more continuos wakelock when app is started...
dunno if push is really working... (don't appear so... will see in the next days :/)

Yeah, probably.
The Facebook app is just atrocious. I hate it with a fiery passion. Basically the ONLY 2 reasons I have it installed are 1) Facebook/Contact picture sync and 2) Upload from gallery to FB.

There are better and alternate facebook apps on the market maybe the notifications will work with those. I have no notification issue myself with the official app but there are other options you can try. Account/sync settings may be some help as well.

I rarely use Facebook so I'm probably not the best indication of whether notifications are working on not, but I noticed that I used to get them fine with the old version of the app, it stopped working/worked sporadically for about two versions, and then it started working again with the latest update that just came out last week.
Like I said though, I rarely get any notifications to begin with so maybe it is still sporadic and I've just been lucky so far (especially since it seems like a lot of people have had nothing but problems with the latest update).

Ok sadly none of us seemed to think about this...
Typically, when I open facebook, I see a list of posts, then I back out and I see notifications screen, then I back out again and think its still running but in reality, its actually turned off.
Instead of backing out of the program like anything else, just hit the home button to exit fb and notifcations work just fine.

Same here. I am also using the official app and no notifications are being pushed to me either, and they are enabled. I am running stock software on my G2. My girlfriend has Mytouch 3G and she gets the notifications. Pretty weird stuff.
I just did the facebook app update the other day and my notifications are now working.
I am running CM 6.1.1
make sure in facebook app settintgs you have a CHECK next to notifications and refresh interval set to 1 hour.
also make sure contact sync is ON, which might help?
I don't use facebook.

well like i said above, dont back out of the program, just hit the home button and leave it running.
if using a task killer, ignore FB. i have been getting notifications since yesterday when i tried this. apparently, FB must be running in order for notifications to work, exiting the program or killing it completely does not allow for push notifications to run thru.
Flow for Facebook is a really good alternative app. It has an option to use the email notifications you get from facebook and switch that over to use for the app. For example, If someone comments on my post I will see the email thing appear but it will disappear and switch to the flow notification saying its for facebook and what not. Theres an option to delete the emails too when it gets notified(paid version). Try it out, I have both official and flow. Flow is so i get instant notifications and the official is just for playing around because flow doesnt have chat yet.
Congrat' : you've just given your Fb IDs to a private company !
but same probleme here... I wish I could receive several sort of notifications... (birthday, event...). Now, I just receive mail....
I get notifications you need to set it up in facebook? If you not done that take a look at privacy settings. I requested on notifications when people add me on post on my wall that's it to many get really annoying......

I don't bother with the FB app notifications, they don't seem to work anyway. I just use the FB texts.
Well, I gave up on the FB App notifications months ago. So I just set up my account so it sends me texts anytime I get a notification. Way easier, at least for me. I didn't have that many problems with notifications still, but they were always late. Like a minute or so. Texts are faster, at least with me. Just saying :3

I haven't seen Facebook use push notifications on any Android phone yet.
They have polling settings (30 minutes, an hour, etc), but not push. There's not even an option for push.
the changelog said after a certain version update it enables the push notification. But.. never worked for the though...
Pretty sure they only work for certain types of notifications and you have to make sure they are enabled.
They have been off and on again. And for me, they are now on.
I just got one a few minutes ago also.. it's been a while..
I was wondering about that. it started yesterday....so, it works for me now

Hi all,
Has anyone else noticed a significant delay with push notifications (namely with gmail)?
I've got my old iPhone and the Nexus 6P side by side, and at best the push notifications come in 10 seconds later than the iPhone (sometimes it can take up to 10 minutes). I've tried the push notification fix as suggested for other phones, but got no love there.
Any suggestions?

I just realized gmail only does push.
I just tested it on my Nexus 6p and it pushed a few seconds after the email was sent. At first however I had to manually refresh for the first test email, then the second test email pushed to the device.
I tested by sending a email from a icloud account on my macbook and sending to my gmail account on my phone.

Same here, seems strange that it's taking so long then...
Also, when deleting an email from the notification, it just keeps popping back up (i.e. not deleting). There's obviously some strange sync issue going on with gmail and exchange
I've had the same problem and haven't found a solution either. Glad to see that I'm not the only one! I posted on Reddit, but it didn't get much play. https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3seyj6/delayed_gmail_syncnotifications/
To try and fix the issue, I've (in no particular order):
Removed my Google account and readded
Gone through Gmail settings to make sure that notifications are on, sync is active, managed labels
Gone through the Google account to make sure that Gmail sync is on
Restarted
Uninstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Reinstalled updates to Gmail from the Play Store
Force Stopped Gmail
Cleared data from Gmail
Cleared cache from Gmail
Removed it from optimized apps
Changed my password on computer, then waited for phone to ask to reinput
I'm on a 64 GB Aluminum, unlocked, MDB08M. I do not have my SIM card yet (only Wi-Fi). Perhaps that's the issue?
I'm getting to the point where I'm going to factory reset, but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to, and I'm not optimistic it would help.

Yeah I've done the factory reset already and can confirm it does nothing. I'm beginning to think its the Gmail app, as the rest of my push notifications are faster or the same speed as iOS. Really crap by the Gmail devs if that is the case.
Any decent replacement email apps out there? The Samsung email app was quicker, but not sure if we can get that without rooting and flashing an apk (and even then not sure if it requires touchwiz to function).
With my 6P Hotspoting to tablet and pc email arrives on 6P a minute or 2 after them.
I don't know if this is the same or not. I have this issue with both the Yahoo mail app and the Outlook app. My gmail notifications seem to be showing up reliably, but I never get any Outlook notifications, and Yahoo's are sporadic--one our of every three or four. When I open either app, it then seems to go fetch the incoming emails. On my previous phone, when I open the app, they're already there. I don't believe I have anything set differently in the apps. I would love to figure this out.
So, I did a factory reset and installed nothing but Outlook and Yahoo mail. Then I sent two notes to my Outlook, Yahoo, and Gmail addresses, and all three of each note arrived almost simultaneously. I guess, now, I'll start re-installing essential apps and testing.
Was looking around and saw someone posted on the official Nexus forums; if anyone here is still having the issue, please head over and +1/reply so Google can escalate the fix.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/Ayd_1TOemSE
I'm having the same issue and I've also noticed that IMs on Hangouts are ridiculously slow. You would think that Google would make sure that at least their own apps worked smoothly on their flagship device.
I think I may have solved my sync issues. In the WiFi advanced settings, I switched the WiFi frequency band from Auto to 2.4Ghz. Ever since I did that I've received notifications on my Nexus 6P just as quickly as I do on other devices.
Wow, glad I saw this thread. I've been noticing gmail is slow lately. I thought it might have been my ROM/Kernel combo. I use Inbox and it was fine up until lately. Guess it's a bug for Google to fix. I even spent time last night reflashing stock and starting fresh out of box state.
This is happening to me too..happens on gmail and as well as Google opinion rewards. It's been happening for a little over a week now...hopefully will be fixed soon..
Is it happening to everybody or just a select lucky few?

Lots of users having this issue
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...syncing-issues-in-gmail-inbox-and-other-apps/
I see that lot of people are only discussing about Gmail and other mailing or hangout apps.
I on the other hand am seeing overall notification push delay across all the apps including Whatsapp, Gmail, Facebook etc. I am unrooted and no changes made whatsoever to my android marshmallow. It is also on latest OTA build.
I receive all notifications as soon as I unlock the device, but if my device is lying on a table (even when not in doze mode which means lying for less than 30 minutes) I still don't receive any notification. As soon as I unlock and turn on screen it seems like data connectivity resumed and all notifications starts to flow within 5-10 seconds without even opening those apps to refresh.
I also have not modified any other notification setting and I even tried to keep whatsapp to priority mode + no battery optimization, still Whatsapp is having hard time receiving notification if screen is turned off for more than 5 minutes..
If you are experiencing this kind of an issue and have successfully resolved it, kindly help me.

Under main settings go to battery, then in the 3 dots menu click "battery optimization" and then you will see a drop down arrow. Select all apps and then scroll down to gmail and turn of "optimization"
I might have to try the above. I wasn't able to use the phone much today, but when I came home, my PC showed 19 emails on Gmail. NONE of them appeared to sync on the app & I had no clue I had this many, or any for that matter. This has been a persistent issue for about a month or so.
The above settings didn't seem to do anything for me. I just got 20 emails in from 6am this morning until now. I wonder if using inbox by google produces the same issues.

Thats not the actual problem though. Ive always had that box unchecked with all my phones because i would get a message (be alerted) deal with that message allowing gmail to then alert me of the next message.
All checking that box is gonna do is if Gmail fails to notify you of the 1st message but then trys once you receive the 2nd or 3rd etc you will be alerted.
Needless to say i am also having the problem.
Appears this is a known problem with Nexus devices (probably a combo of Nexus/Marshmallow)

Hopefully its only the app that needs tweaking and not the OS itself so we dont have to wait forever and a day for the update.

Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this but u couldn't find a relevant forum... On my 6p my Gmail all is not pushing email notifications through to me live a they come. I am having to open the app up and then pull down to refresh the app and then they will all appear.
If I leave it long enough eventually they will all come through. For example the other day I left it too see what would happen on a weekend day and at around 4pm my email went from nothing to flooded with emails going back as far as 5am.
If I use inbox it works fine but I prefer the Gmail app. I have even gone to the lengths of factory resetting my phone to see if that helps but it didn't.

For me, it needed to be whitelisted in the battery optimization menu. It seems like doze or app standby is killing the app.

Tried that and no change. The only push notifications are if I sign out and then sign in to another phone!
My Gmail (v6.01....) was working perfect until I updated to the lastest build (MHC19I), then Gmail stopped pushing notifications. I read on the google forums in the link posted above that reverting back to Gmail version 5.7... would fix this problem and it did. So, I turned off auto-updates for Gmail and will remain on version 5.7 until Google fixes this issue.
