HTC Droid Incredible this phone has 2.3 ROM
DROID Incredible Owners Receive One of the First Really Polished Gingerbread ROMs
This is a Verizon Phone correct? If so how can there be a 2.3 ROM for this phone so fast?
http://www.droid-life.com/
Good news for Droid Incredible owners, you may have the first-almost-fully functional Gingerbread ROM thanks to r2DoesInc over at XDA Forums. As of late last night, the newest build fixed almost everything that would cause you to not use it except for video recording and a working GPS. Other than that though, the browser now works fine, the camera snaps shots, and things like multi-touch have all been polished up.
Is someone working on a Fascinate Gingerbread ROM??

Another useless thread .... let's see. Maybe because Inc. devs have the correct code to work with (i.e RIL). Others have pointed this out in countless other 'Where's Froyo' threads. Be patient. You hold in your hand a much better phone than the Incredible, regardless of what software it's running.
Swyped from my Stupidfast Fascinate
One day hopefully we will get 2.3, but the incredible having 2.3 doesn't really affect us. I had 2.2 on my eris for the past 3 months at least and the fascinate doesn't have it. Even without having froyo, I still like the fascinate 10x more than I ever liked my eris. When the update does come it will just make it even better.
When the update do come, we all probably already left the fascinate and unto the incredible hd. Sad but it' the truth. Too many disapointments and lack of urgency from samsung.

Oh, I know what you mean. No wonder the devs stopped coming here so much. The questions been answered. There's a search function for a reason-use it.
Actually I find the search function to be a little clunky. I always use it anyway, but often google works fastest. It is amazing how quickly this forum gets indexed.
However, the most obvious is the list of posts that come up when you try to start a topic. At minimum, one should look into those. There has been an excess of overlap this month.

I said the same thing with the Samsung Moment..I was Awed by the AMOLED display, but Samsung's record of device support is in the ****ter. Then I bought a Fascinate because of the camera and the SAMOLED display.
I use this phone for what it is..a phone. Everything else is extra, and this phone has the BEST camera for any cell phone on the market currently. I'll stick with Samsung for now

Ditto... although it could be because of the copious amounts of alcohol I consumed last night.
Alright, enoughs enough... Lets get a moderator to make a thread stating WHY we do not have froyo/GB so we don't have to read the same thing over and over again... Its simple... we DO NOT have the RIL source code and the one they even gave us is botched at best (from what I have read). So simply make a thread with that name then simply put we will not have a working gb/froyo ROM until we get the RIL source code from sammy (or a verizon one leaks out at which point, we will make a new thread in the developement section). This is the only options we have. There are no workarounds. STOP posting random meaningless threads about your idea because it won't work. If still think it will please head over to the IRC and talk to a dev about it but expect to get charred from the flaming if it is something dumb.
PS: you can never expect people to use the Search Button.... its sad but its the truth

Wow..re-reading what I wrote..I sound like a blooming retard.
Maybe, but what you wrote is truth. This phone is quite good at what it does as is; I hope they don't screw that up with an update. Given some of what I've read about Froyo on other sgs phones, I'd rather have what we have now.

So...who wants to build the first 2.3 ROM? (Well...when the source code is released. )
that would be so exciting, gingerbread looks so refined. The keyboard screens I've seen look nearly identical to the iphone, and that is to date the best on-screen keyboard. I'm stoked.
Let's set the timer for htc, I wonder how long it will take them to push a sense version out? I hope to see the new sense from the desire and also a full bluetooth stack, im dreaming big but that's the reason for the season!
Come on guys!! I just came back to NY trusty ole dinc(from DC, fascinate) and can't wait. HTC Makes the most customizeable phones(don't use ****ty RFS filesystem Samsung uses) and they don't give u a ****ty source to work with and RIL dlfrom android 1.5( talking to you Samsung) this should be exciting!!!

I figure that since essentially the incredible and the media one are the same phone it shouldn't be too terribly difficult to get a port this way. If I was smarter and could do this stuff is being all over it, good thing we have people who actually ARE that smart... lol. First dev to get it up and running will get a 24 pack from me, donation wise at least.

This is probably a silly question, but can I not just download Gingerbread and install it, or do I *need* to get a customized HTC version?
You need the version made for your phone.. So yea the HTC versiob

Anybody know if we are getting an official upgrade?. Or is this phone too old now lol.
Edit: just read the new features list. Oh man I just got really excited. Gyrosensor support, dual camera support, better keyboard, better power management, better 3d performance, Better copy/paste. I can't wait. I'd say 2.3 is on par with iOS now for some cool hardware

It would be really nice if HTC supported the incredible, but I won't be surprised if it isn't. However there are a few reasons why we might get it (and they're all purely speculation):
1. Evo and Incredible run off very similar framework/hardware, would be two birds one stone sort of deal to help reinforce customer loyalty
2. The original Droid got froyo and that was almost a year after its release. We are in a similar situation and seeing how cool HTC is with updates we might get lucky.
3. Our hardware is still well within the requirements for gingerbread. As a matter of fact the Nexus S has a 1Ghz processor so there's no reason from a hardware standpoint NOT to do it.
Conversely, HTC did out a number of new devices (G2, MyTouch 4G, Desire Z etc) which might be a higher priority for them to get on gingerbread. Its hard to know for sure, but speculating is fun

The Nexus One is getting Gingerbread today and the Incredible/Evo have almost identical hardware, so I say the odds are in our favor. If not, we will definitely get a port from the Nexus One or an AOSP build from one of our great developers.
alright i am a sickass noob! *cant express that enough* i mean it even took me like 5 min to find a way to post something on this *so yes this is my first time posting something*, i am just wondering if i am rooted *which i am* and a new update comes out, ei Ginger, how would that effect my phone if i clicked update? would it update my phone and i'd lose root? or would it simply brick my phone? real curious havent been able to find a plain answer anywhere
If u are stock rooted without having removed any of the factory bloatware then if u click update is will simply apply the.update and you will not be rootes anymore. Wala

Many times it does, but I find it fixes common typos pretty well. The main thing I hate about the HTC keyboard is the autocorrect... I'm NOT a fan of it just popping up there and then it being difficult to get it off the screen or saving a bad spelling in the dictionary. I guess that could be reason enough to turn it off though... lol.
According to the video on the nexxus s site its not just autocorrect but autolearn and correct so the auto correct adapts to the user better thus eliminating the usual hatred for most autocorrects. So far is learning me quiet well.

If I'm not mistaken that 10 million number is the whole Galaxy S line. 3 of the phones in that line have had very little, if any, in the way of leaked software thereby putting the need for anything new at a stand still. The majority of the 10 million sold have been I9000 which has seen plenty of development. As for the Vibrant I count 4 active Dev teams that are major players here, Eugene, Team Whiskey, Master, Heathen. Then you have a couple others releasing random items. To my recollection there has been a new rom or update to existing roms every single week. I'm not sure what else you would want maybe a new rom to flash daily? One of those devs has stop posting here but those that like his work have given us all the updated info. All of the Devs with the exception of Heathen have slowed down a bit for various reason known only to them but I'd speculate 3 possible reasons. 1. Holidays man people want to relax a little. 2. Nothing new to work with in a few weeks and the last 3 or 4 leaks have just been tweaks to 2.2. And finally C. with 2.3 on the horizon I'm sure some of the devs are busy finding a way to bring us all a stable/working version.
Hope this clears everything up for you.

Not exactly true. I mean I understand the sentiment. But it only goes up to a point. I thoroughly expect either an official 2.3 release sometime this year, or at least a stable 2.3 port from the Nexus considering it's pretty much the same exact phone. But after that, I'm not expecting much considering the handset with be EOL by then.
I was a former G1 owner, and I think it was great that we were able to get an official build of 1.6, and even though CM worked pretty well on it (at least the Eclair versions), you can't really expect that it would run Froyo well.
Bottom line, I think if every handset was updated within the first 1.5 years of it's life, people would be satisfied and there would be a lot less frustration about lack of support with Android in general.
Hi everyone!
Long time browser of these forums, but decided to join since I switched from my Iphone 3gs to the Atrix 4g.
Just a question, why so much hate for this phone? Maybe I'm totally in love due to the fact that I'm discovering my freedom on Android (well most of it do to moto/att locking some stuff) but I still think the phone is wonderful.
The only issue is I agree about the screen not being amazing like some of the other Android phones I've seen, but regardless next to my friends G2 and my girlfriends Inspire, my phone is blazing fast, has a pretty good battery (new toy syndrom I'm using it like a monster and It still has not died by the night time start at 8/9am put back in charger about 1/2am with 20% left) and the camera is fine for a smartphone.
I guess it just seems like a lot of hate and I'm wondering if I'm missing something that I should be aware of?
Take care and I hope to be more active in this awesome community.

The smart thing to do is sit back and wait for a few patches to hit or buy a phone that's been in the market for some time and has all the things smoothed out.

When you go to Inspire forum, u will see how ppl hate Atrix, they feel the Atrix is ****, cheap, ect. ect..
ill admit that i am trolling this site to get some of the feedback on the atrix. i for one would have thought it would have kicked as5 (meaning better reviews). i like reading the the good and bad remarks from users here. i applaude some of the honesty/personal opinions of people who like and didnt like it.
Cause many people (including myself) are from some previous flagship Android phones. While Atrix 4G is been described as "Revolutionary" product, some features are degraded due to Tegra2/Moto. This is where the disappointment come from.
The things that are holding me back
are the Moto blur and the locked down boot loader.
I still have my captivate but I'm itching to move up to the new dual cores. And I got sucked in with Atrix by the lap top dock. That turned out to be a real downer, 500$ for a monitor keyboard and a mouse....what are you insane?
I will wait it out and keep my captivate, maybe the galaxy s2 will make its way over here, and before it does I can read the board and see how people like it over their in Euro Disney.
The ability of running roms really came in handy on the captivate, since I have been running froyo for a long time.
I came from the captivate which sucks...slow and short on memory. The atrix is amazing in every respect. People who think otherwise don’t know how to use it.

Out of all phones I've owned the Captivate has been the most laggy. You shouldn't have to worry about undoing and redoing a lag-fix every time you want to install a new rom. The Captivate is an amazing device don't get me wrong. However the short time I've had the Atrix I've been very impressed. 2800 Quadrant on a stock phone? 37-38 Linpack?? NUTS! I'm sure that could change as I'm not sure if quadrant is optimized for Dual Core. But I've noticed absolutely no lag, the accessories are amazing, the screen is super sharp(although I think I still prefer my Nexus S screen ATM so far..) and hopefully we will be able to get a dual root (Android OS and Webtop) someday =) IMO Moto has done well bringing the first dual core to the states. The only perfect phone I've ever had was my N1, the Atrix isn't perfect but it is one of the best (most definitely the fastest) phone on the market.

I agree. We are chasing perfection.
Is it just me or is Epic development almost dead?
Two-three months ago there was CM6,MIUI,CM7 and more original roms in the works, what happened?
Yeah i know that for CM7 they are waiting for official GB to drop but what about CM6 that was 90 percent finished and MIUI that was almost finished?
I know that we still got roms but most of them with exception of ACS and few others are mostly remixes and tweaks of stock rom.
Our Epic is way behind Vibrant,Fascinate and Captivate.
It's just you. Don't knock what the amazing developers have done for us. We have plenty of roms and we will have plenty once gingerbread drops.
I agree. Feel free to learn how to dev, though. You won't sound like a detractor from the forum.

This is my first experience with custom ROMs and I for one am very content with the amount of development for the Epic. I have looked at other forums and yes there may be a larger following, or more talk about development, but a lot of it seems to be garbage. I have flashed and used a few different ROMs now and they are all solid with few if any bugs. SRF is what I am running now and I have not found a single functionality issue. I also love that the Epic devs continue to improve their product instead of releasing some piece of crap ROM and never touching it again. Also the relatively smaller quantity of development makes things like qbking's videos possible and help all of us learn to better utilize the phones potential.
I say cheers to the devs for what they do and the time they put in! I could never accomplish even a portion of what they do. Thanks guys!

This.
Quality over quantity anyday our devs cook up some amazing stuff for us.

I love this phone. That is all.
Sent from Godot's place.
we have several quality ROMs and Themes to choose from
It should come as no surprise really. There are 3 main reasons why it may seem development is slow:
Small community. Meaning that our sample set in which developers are drawn is smaller. Thankfully, this phone was top notch in hardware when it came out, so it increased our chances of having very talented developers since it naturally drew people who seriously appreciated hardware. Hence, why we have a small number of developers but they're all very very good at what they do. It could have ended up with a small number AND not a lot of quality.
Touchwiz. What I mean by this is that we're still waiting on a fully functional AOSP based rom, with CM7 being the closest to completion. Without it, all there is to develop on is touchwiz, and we've pretty much exhausted what we can do with it (so far). Once there's one ROM on AOSP, that allows for more ROMs to be developed on AOSP. Plus, the completion of CM7 could very well attract developers who prefer to develop on AOSP to try a couple projects, and have simply been waiting for CM to be completed. This all ties in with reason number 3.
Froyo. Like touchwiz, we've pretty much done all we can do with it. With the release of gingerbread, it'll open up a whole new opportunity to develop. Remember, we went through the same thing towards the end of eclair's life. Not a whole lot of development, and everyone really just waiting for froyo. The difference was, however, that everyone was itching SO BAD for froyo that a lot of projects were done on DK28; we were truly behind the times then, and so even the developers were willing to play with a leak. Not so much now; we're not AS behind the curve considering there are still few phones (besides newly released ones) on gingerbread. This, too, is much like the anticipation of an AOSP precedent as mentioned previously: it's quite possible that there are potential developers who are simply waiting for gingerbread to be released before coming to this phone.

can anyone explain to me how the mytouch slide 4g has cm7 and overclocked gingerbread kernels with out gb source?

I don't know, but the easiest explanations are:
More developers? Better chance to figure out the kernel drivers on their own.
It's made by HTC? It's pretty much a known that samsungs kernel drivers are always wacky, and in general, what one phone has doesn't neccessarily help with another. With HTC, their kernel drivers are a little more consistent across phones and it's easier to make things work by borrowing and tweaking.
Linux loaded modules? Don't know if it's relevant, but it's possible to use these to overclock a phone in a round-about way.
There's something that really needs to be laid to rest here regarding the arguement that everybody gives saying "we didn't get cm6 when froyo source was released, so how are we gonna get cm7 just because of gingerbread source?" Two reasons:
One: we only had one dev working on it, noobnl. Now we have a TEAM. And each on is just as if not more talented than him.
Two: we didn't have another device to kang any AOSP driver source from. With cm7, our team borrowed what they could from the nexus s 4g. And rest assured, they DID get a little use out of it.

It's the same phone as every other HTC phone, once they get something working on one all the others get it pretty quickly.

then by the same logic, since the i9000 has gb, we should too? the only difference in the mytouch4g and most other htc phones is a keyboard and 4g. sound familiar?
According to Phandroid.com, the Fascinate on Verizon is getting the Gingerbread Update!
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/01/samsung-fascinate-gingerbread-update-ready-to-roll/
Now T-mobile and Samsung, I have to ask, where is the Vibrant's update?
Galaxy S internatinoal got gingerbread.
Galaxy S 4G got gingerbread.
Captivate has gingerbread leaks.
Fascinate is getting gingerbread.
Vibrant Canada I think got gingerbread also.
So where is the T-mobile Vibrant Gingerbread????????????????????????
Might be more power full if posted in samsung website forum.
yea, post that there. Ive given up on GB anyway, custom roms are better anyway
Accept that it's not coming and 2.2 is the terminal firmware for the Vibrant. You can thank the T-959v for that.

Imagine how better they'd be with Gingerbread source.
Eh doesnt matter anymore. We got devs doing ics, in a week or two more it'll run flawlessly.
wait.. correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the fascinate the same hardware minus the modem (cdma)? if this is the case devs could just as easily rip all the files needed to complete our driver issues on GB. if not oh well.
I believe there is something different with the GPS drivers on the Vibrant, which is why we have so many great ROMs without very good GPS.
Seriously? Another rant about gb for the vibrant? Just flash an i9000 port, and stop complaining. Or get another phone. There are early builds of ics popping up already. the vibrant was one of the first to get an ics build actually....
You disappeared after i showed you battery life on simply honey v6 beta....hahaha...where'd you go buddy?

Why do you want GB now, when it's a year late? They should release ICS rather than GB. ICS is awesome on the vibrant btw

I9000 ports are good, but I need gps daily. If Im not mistaken the only GB kernel that has GPS is about 6 months old. We get an up to date GB kernel with working gps and more will flood the I9000 ROM section.
you guys are stupid for even thinking we'll get a update, if we do im sorry and i will cut my dogs ear off.
P.S. get your ass on ICS.

I understand the need for GPS, but it's really a hit or miss with vibrants. I'll pretty sure i got the first run of units, so gps never really worked well for me, no matter what ROM I'm on.
Granted, if i use the gb bullet kernel, i can get a lock and even navigation, but it takes a while. I just use maps to give me directions, then follow them. Simple solution to a simple problem.

I would agree. I also got one of the first batches of Vibs. I did the hardware fix and things got much better for me. Give it a look if you haven't tried it. May help.
Edit:
Note - my wife and I both got Vibs together. Mine has the hardware fix and hers does not. Mine locks A LOT faster than hers. She is on a 2.2 ROM and Im on Miui as well.

I tried the hardware fix myself, but only by bending the contact up. What exactly did you do to apply the hardware fix?

MIUI-NB edition has a working gps, no need for hardware fix. but go for an older release for more stability

Yep, I'm getting on iOS in January when I switch carriers...
Oh, you said ICS... My bad...
Sorry, ICS = Different look, same nastiness. UI Latency, Adware galore, inconsistent UI across apps, poor market policing, etc.
I'm to the point where I just want something that works. Android is starting to feel like WIndows Me to me now...

Everyone has a choice. Thats why I love Android and iOS. Both have their pros and cons. I am NOT a fanboy. I can point out both advantages for both platforms, and both have disadvantages.
I'm just glad this wasn't like 5 years ago where the only choice for a smartphone = iPhone. I did own a iPhone 3GS, jailbroke it, found nothing interesting to jailbreak except to pirate apps... which i pointless to me. I prefer android, it gives me a change. But again, opinions are opinions.
Tmoble already has the sgs 2 and the sgs 4g. Not to mention that the vibrant was discontinued months ago there's honestly no point in a business point of view updating a phone there not making any money on

And this is why we need source direct from samsung
CM DROPS VIBRANT SUPPORT DUE TO 911 INABILITY:
"We are no longer supporting the Vibrant due to the inability to dial 911. We consider the issues related to this unresolvable without source code from Samsung related to the Radio interface layer and its interactions with the Audio layers and have taken the decision to no longer support this. We apologize for the inconvenience and strongly suggest that Vibrant users use a Samsung ROM due to the 911 issues with any ROMs based on open source code."
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/12/cya...le-galaxy-s-support-dropped-due-to-911-issue/
Now do you see why it is so important to have put pressure on Samsung/T-Mobile to release an update to Gingerbread? This is why! Developers are talented but they can't work miracles. We need source/drivers for proper 911 and GPS capabilities just to name a few.
