[Q] Overclocked Kernel????? - Nexus S General

any information on whether or not someone is developing an overclockable kernel for the nexus s????

We haven't even got close to using the stock kernels potential .. lol were gonna have to wait it out for a while, first few kernels are gonna be patching different parts of the I/O system for faster reading n writing of system files.. over clocks will be some time away..

Was the Hummingbird OC'ed on other devices? I didnt think it was due to it being samsungs own processor?

Manhattan project dead?

Has the 1.6ghz project died? Are they still working on it or have they abandoned it? I really want to try it out.

Dead project, go to their forums for more info.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
there was an issue where the clock speed appeared to be at 1.6 GHz, but in reality, as they increased the speed, the actual system speed decreased. (i think the term is clock-gating).
The remains of the manhattan project in the 2.2 kernels is that of Dragon and DoW, only they are up to 1.4 GHz.
Oh well, I'm flashing the dragon kernel then

I PMed Morific a while ago for a 1.6 ghz DOW kernel for froyo. He said that it should be stable if your phone can handle 1.6 ghz. Mine can't.
I think still have the .zip file though.
According to them:
Project mothballed and knowledge from it taken on to core, core is more advanced and attempting to resolve issues with the high end overclock that are fatal to this projects design.
heres thread if you want to check out more info: http://board.teamwhiskey.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=53&start=0
Just so people know, core is also a 2.1 (eclair) only kernel.

dead as a door nail, trying to over clock that high ..........too many freezes....... too unstable
I don't believe the kernel was at all stable and potentially significantly more dangerous than other kernels

whats the best overclocked kernel for CM7

1.8 ?!?! are you trying to kill your phone? I don't go passed 1200 regardless of kernel, I just don't see the need to.

Thanks for the great info
No they are not since they since they are made for another device!
Try intersectRavens kernel or wildmonks - the fastest ist redstars i think???

Uh there isn't a best or worst! There is only opinion's. But if you want the highest clocked and most stable for that speed than i would say Redstar's 1190 kernel
http://redstar.euroskank.com/2.6.37.4/LIVE_DANGEROUSLY/OC_1190/
Just my 2 cents, like a @ssh0l3 everyone has 1
The other two posters are correct--
1. Too high and phone issues, some phones can handle them, a lot can't--be careful
2. Benchmarks are useless and overrated--I have been flashing kernals for almost a year and irregardless of my benchmarks (I haven't even done one for months), the phone seems no differnet for day to day use
3. I prefer the stock one on nightlies--great volume on audio
4. IMHO
<- what he said!

Samurai kernel CM9 B0

I know he hasn't been updating here any more and there might be somewhere else where this posted but figured I would let others know he put out a new one today around 2am my time. I have been using it for about 24 hours and so far so good.
Hit this http://indandroidprj.zxq.net/ and check it out if you liked his other kernels.

I didn't know. I tend to stay out of the XDA drama and try my best to avoid it altogether. Sadly this also means that I lose track of where devs go after they inevitably get pissed off and leave. No idea why the Samurai guy left, but I am sure it was chock full of drama. I did like his kernel before it stopped showing up here.
I thought that the info was needed. And after 24 hour of it being up it only showed 72 downloads and I figured if I let others know that it was up that others would enjoy it again. And some others don't prowl sites like I do and wouldn't have kept going back there. I do hope this is helpful for others and seeing as his forums don't seem to have activity it might be nice to have a place where you can check to see about issues and other results .

Now building my own would that give me anything worthwhile? I know on my linux box it does as I can make it for only my hardware and I know the epic has some huge changes from phone to phone is this an option or is it just to build it in the enviroment (I.e. cm9b0) its going to be in?

It wasn't meant to benifit us it was meant to help him so other can compile their own kernel. It uses his repo and you pull from it and using the helper you compile it for either cm9 cm7 miui tw bml/mtd and miuiv4. This will do everything you compile whichever and it will put a samurai.zip in your out folder and youllhave a flashable kernel. Hope this is what you meant I'm not a wiz at this stuff I JUST got ubuntu working and have broken it again already. I just fixed my internet and now it doesn't want to work .

I am seeing less battery life on mine. But I am out in the country of kentucky and I am switching from roam to sprint so that might be part of it. I will play with it more at home this weekend and see how it compares but so far I am having issues in chrome beta with it locking up. I don't think I have undervolted to much I will look at my settings again and see how where the issue is.

I'v been using Samurai kernels for a while now, the best battery life I ever saw was on Marcusants ROM with an early samurai kernel. It seemed like they worked out better in the past, I would get 2 days and some hours with no UV. I cant for the life of me remember what scheduler/governor combo I was using. Last night I charged my phone to 100% and let it sit over night. Found it with 18% battery left this morning. idk whats changed over the months, maybe CM9 is just more battery hungry than our old GB roms. I will try the VR/ Conservative and see how long it lasts.

[A] We REALLY want a kernel built from source!

Update: 09.06.12
So yeah, um more info to come this weekend.
OG OP:
hey all long time no OP...
well im officially gonna take over my fiance's laptop to build from sources among other fun stuff.
ive been looking around and noticed it i build a asop kernel it would still only be a 2.2.2 kernel. would cm6 be something we would like to see? ive also been hitting up the devs at UWT to see if possible to make the mods to build a gb kernel to cm7 and on.
i ask these questions cause i wont be the only one using em.
just wanted to pick yall brains for a min,

I'm not too concerned about cm, unless it's 7, or higher. 6 wasn't particularly great, from what I've heard. And, if you/we can figure out how to bake the call to ticker api into it. A custom kernel, for no other purpose than over clock and custom boot animations would be awesome. That and true scripting ability, instead of having to use init.d as a backdoor. If you decide to work on it, let me know how I can help.

I'm with Tx on this. Surprisingly, I'm content with my phone right now. I would like to change my lock screen, but as far as the ROM, it's running smoothly and I don't think CM6 would be any better of an experience for me. CM7 would be nice, but I've already convinced myself our phone will never get gb so it's no big deal.
I would enjoy changing my boot animation though, so I'm all for a custom kernel! Between you and trailblazer, my phone is now what it should have been when released by Samsung and Verizon. Thanks for all the work!
Cm7 is possible. I used it on my gf (hauwei) phone (begore i400) built up from eclair. I didn't do it but it was accomplished. Buggy though. I would rather have functionality over all the fuss though. I'm still on it

How long does it usually take to build a kernel? Sounds like a great plan.
It would be great to see some updates in kernels. Being able to over or underclock or change boot animation would be fantastic. Last phone was OG droid which was easy as he'll to flash kernels, ROMs, boot animations, and over/underclock. I miss that part of it but don't miss alot of the bugs, and lack of RAM with it. This phone does run much better and am happy with it at this point.

And on a side note... I was thinking about ICS on the continuum (i have a rezound)
I was thinking if you outed the ticker completely the softkeys could take its place and the launcher would have the grey bar through... I have absolutely no idea what any of that would involve or how to go about doing it but I can dream dammit!

Vanilla Froyo
im trying to build aosp FROYO kernel/rom. starting there before i try to go up.
i see in the .config file where the ticker is and screen res. but source is huge and has stupid (not stupid) code names. ours is "garnett". yet in the menu config for kernel there are device options to build for "garnett_delta" and another i can remember off head. we are also in need of a working [initramfs], i found them once in our sources but i have already started from scratch 4 or 5 times. i had one successful compile yet no output. my next attempt will be tonight and since have gotten only a few errors that ive looked into but dont understand.
Update (patch) Kernel
from what i have read i can try and update the kernel itself to a 2.6.32.59
and have read in order to update to a 2.6.35 (GB)+ i would have to downgrade (or start?) from 2.6.32 (linux sources only go back to 2.6.32.25 or something (this option would take me awhile to just read about lol)

maybe after the phones been out a while and everything settles down we could have a custom kernal that would be easy to under or overvolt
but i really dont think the phone needs it...i'm more looking forward to custom roms like a pretty much pure google ICS or JB rom maybe with some extras added in

im using aokp rom and ive overclocked mine to 1.7ghz depends on the phone. some phones can go to 1.8ghz if lucky if not then 1.6 ghz, it varies from phone to phone
I'd imagine Quick Clock would work on these. Not my favorite way to overclock, but its easy.
