Samurai kernel CM9 B0 - Epic 4G General

I know he hasn't been updating here any more and there might be somewhere else where this posted but figured I would let others know he put out a new one today around 2am my time. I have been using it for about 24 hours and so far so good.
Hit this http://indandroidprj.zxq.net/ and check it out if you liked his other kernels.

I didn't know. I tend to stay out of the XDA drama and try my best to avoid it altogether. Sadly this also means that I lose track of where devs go after they inevitably get pissed off and leave. No idea why the Samurai guy left, but I am sure it was chock full of drama. I did like his kernel before it stopped showing up here.

I thought that the info was needed. And after 24 hour of it being up it only showed 72 downloads and I figured if I let others know that it was up that others would enjoy it again. And some others don't prowl sites like I do and wouldn't have kept going back there. I do hope this is helpful for others and seeing as his forums don't seem to have activity it might be nice to have a place where you can check to see about issues and other results .

yes the blue zip above it in CM9 kernel folder on his site yes it does.

He tried to keep that secret I was talking to him when he was putting up the kernel. Oh he also fixed up his githelper script I helped him fix it. So now you can compile your own samurai kernel.

Now building my own would that give me anything worthwhile? I know on my linux box it does as I can make it for only my hardware and I know the epic has some huge changes from phone to phone is this an option or is it just to build it in the enviroment (I.e. cm9b0) its going to be in?

It wasn't meant to benifit us it was meant to help him so other can compile their own kernel. It uses his repo and you pull from it and using the helper you compile it for either cm9 cm7 miui tw bml/mtd and miuiv4. This will do everything you compile whichever and it will put a samurai.zip in your out folder and youllhave a flashable kernel. Hope this is what you meant I'm not a wiz at this stuff I JUST got ubuntu working and have broken it again already. I just fixed my internet and now it doesn't want to work .

This kernel but CM7 Version battery update info that i tested today

I am seeing less battery life on mine. But I am out in the country of kentucky and I am switching from roam to sprint so that might be part of it. I will play with it more at home this weekend and see how it compares but so far I am having issues in chrome beta with it locking up. I don't think I have undervolted to much I will look at my settings again and see how where the issue is.

Tried the kernel yesterday. Wouldn't go into deep sleep and wouldn't hit the 100mhz step. Had to abandon it. If he had a thread on xda I would be able to find out what's up, but not signing up for another forum on his site to figure out what's going on with his kernel.

I'v been using Samurai kernels for a while now, the best battery life I ever saw was on Marcusants ROM with an early samurai kernel. It seemed like they worked out better in the past, I would get 2 days and some hours with no UV. I cant for the life of me remember what scheduler/governor combo I was using. Last night I charged my phone to 100% and let it sit over night. Found it with 18% battery left this morning. idk whats changed over the months, maybe CM9 is just more battery hungry than our old GB roms. I will try the VR/ Conservative and see how long it lasts.

With the sensors working correctly....battery life has got be superior. Rite?

It's been reported the battery life is pretty good. I think it'd be that much better with SBC, though. Hopefully someone can mod it into the kernel.

RandomRom Egret is Rocking My Socks!

Big Ups to RandomKing for this one. I can't post in the development section just yet, but this is by far the best battery life ROM(if not ROM period) for my specific Epic. I've not had ANY of the issues others have reported with either version. (I think my Eagle worked fine because I already had Chris' EG22Plus Kernel Loaded). Right now I'm draining 1% or less an hour when idle, and barely 3% with keeping my background data and auto sync on for work purposes. I think it would be even better if I wasn't using the gmail app.
Everyone else who may have tested this on both the kernel Egret comes with, and EG22Plus Kernel. Which one's working out best for you so far? I've had such luck on EG22Plus I don't even want to try running without it.

Yeah props man! This rom is snappy. I am enjoying the "stock" kernel rather than the cleanEG22 kernel from performance but I have noticed the clean kernel left more available memory after a task killer or memory clear. The more I kill hrough the day, the less and less availble memory every time even though the services and programs do not show as running anymore...

Best kernel for Epic 4G ICS?

Any idea? Stability + good battery?
I was using Legendary before, awesome battery life while at 1400Mhz all the time. It was amazing.
Anyone know which kernel I should use now?
YMMV but this was my battery today with the newest samurai kernel tanto

This being covered time and time again in many different posts over many different threads almost warrants no answer but ill give you one and here it is
try them all flash one per day till you find one that works for you the way you like it everyone uses their phone differently so no matter what you will get different results than i do or the next person that post on this
It's really up to you, try them out and see what you like the best. I've tried all 3 kernels currently out right now and they all work pretty good. The two I usually stick with are shadow kernel and the samurai kernel. Shadow kernel is nice and makes everything feel real snappy. You can overclock to 1400 mHz and the battery life for me is good. The newest shadow, tanto, overclocks to 1500 mHz and works with voodoo control. Haven't gotten the chance to really test battery since it just came out but so far it runs pretty good. Just test both of them out, you can always flash over another kernel.

I'm using shadow now and have used apro's too and they both worked great. You need to experiment with them, and you're going to have to tweak to get better battery life. I had several trying to constantly run and none of them were things I use a lot so they had to go. If I wanted super battery life I would have bought a flip phone and not a micromini laptop, and I wouldn't have such a joyful device to tinker with.

Stock is always going to be the best for wanting nothing but the simplicity.
Put it like this when i buy a car, i put bigger tires on my car for grip, and better handling. But i know i will loose some gas mileage but not alot.
I'll put a turbo and some internals into my engine to gain in power but will loose gas.
But if we can put bigger tires and a bigger turbo but still have the same gas results as stock, Then why not do it?
We all benefit in one area and thats why custom kernels are there for those who want options that stock doesn't provide.
Stock= Base Model
Custom = Fully Loaded
Simple as that. So everyone should try different kernels and then reply not saying oh this is the best. But say IMO i prefer this over that simply because of these reasons. Everyone will want a specific kernel because one may like different things about the different kernels

ive been looking around and noticed it i build a asop kernel it would still only be a 2.2.2 kernel. would cm6 be something we would like to see? ive also been hitting up the devs at UWT to see if possible to make the mods to build a gb kernel to cm7 and on.
i ask these questions cause i wont be the only one using em.
just wanted to pick yall brains for a min,

I'm not too concerned about cm, unless it's 7, or higher. 6 wasn't particularly great, from what I've heard. And, if you/we can figure out how to bake the call to ticker api into it. A custom kernel, for no other purpose than over clock and custom boot animations would be awesome. That and true scripting ability, instead of having to use init.d as a backdoor. If you decide to work on it, let me know how I can help.

I'm with Tx on this. Surprisingly, I'm content with my phone right now. I would like to change my lock screen, but as far as the ROM, it's running smoothly and I don't think CM6 would be any better of an experience for me. CM7 would be nice, but I've already convinced myself our phone will never get gb so it's no big deal.
I would enjoy changing my boot animation though, so I'm all for a custom kernel! Between you and trailblazer, my phone is now what it should have been when released by Samsung and Verizon. Thanks for all the work!
Cm7 is possible. I used it on my gf (hauwei) phone (begore i400) built up from eclair. I didn't do it but it was accomplished. Buggy though. I would rather have functionality over all the fuss though. I'm still on it

How long does it usually take to build a kernel? Sounds like a great plan.
It would be great to see some updates in kernels. Being able to over or underclock or change boot animation would be fantastic. Last phone was OG droid which was easy as he'll to flash kernels, ROMs, boot animations, and over/underclock. I miss that part of it but don't miss alot of the bugs, and lack of RAM with it. This phone does run much better and am happy with it at this point.

I don't use the continuum much these days but would glady test anything and help where I can
And on a side note... I was thinking about ICS on the continuum (i have a rezound)
I was thinking if you outed the ticker completely the softkeys could take its place and the launcher would have the grey bar through... I have absolutely no idea what any of that would involve or how to go about doing it but I can dream dammit!

I think cm6 would be awesome! Yea its not cm7 but at least its something different. I know there's not alot of devs on the continuum but I think having something different than all these plain roms coming out would be nice, Not trying to sound like a hater or anything.
I'm not that great at developing or anything like that yet but if we got cm6 would that mean we'd have a greater chance at getting cm7?

i believe so too, time pending.
Vanilla Froyo
im trying to build aosp FROYO kernel/rom. starting there before i try to go up.
i see in the .config file where the ticker is and screen res. but source is huge and has stupid (not stupid) code names. ours is "garnett". yet in the menu config for kernel there are device options to build for "garnett_delta" and another i can remember off head. we are also in need of a working [initramfs], i found them once in our sources but i have already started from scratch 4 or 5 times. i had one successful compile yet no output. my next attempt will be tonight and since have gotten only a few errors that ive looked into but dont understand.
Update (patch) Kernel
from what i have read i can try and update the kernel itself to a 2.6.32.59
and have read in order to update to a 2.6.35 (GB)+ i would have to downgrade (or start?) from 2.6.32 (linux sources only go back to 2.6.32.25 or something (this option would take me awhile to just read about lol)
