what you need!!!!! to get an EVO and put it on BOOST. I was with SPRINT before and its riddiculous that i used to pay about $90-$1000/month with my Touch Pro2 and now i pay $50/month to use it on BOOST and i have the same service except everything is unlimited and i have no phone insurance. Calling BOOST to activate an EVO will definitely not work but if u already have a BOOST CDMA account all you really need is the MSL code for the EVO then reprogram it with your BOOST# and MSID, thats what I did with my TP2 and its been working great since Feb. Have not heard anybody whos tried it yet but im sure they will. Theres is no 4G service in NYC as of yet so thats no problem as SPRINT makes you pay$10 extra for something you dont have. Metro PCS is supposedly getting 4G service by Dec. so BOOST which is owned by SPRINT is sure to be getting it too and if I have to pay $10extra to BOOST then so be it $60/month is great compared to paying at least $40/month more to SPRINT for the same thing
Ever heard of commas and paragraphs?

#1. It is not the exact same service, in the past boost phones were mainly nextel devices, the nextel network isn't nearly as large. Both current boost phones like the katana, blackberry, etc. and virgin mobile phones connect to a LIMITED number of sprint towers, its not the same coverage.
#2. How is boost going to charge you $10 for 4g service on a phone it doesn't offer and a service it won't provide?
"except everything is unlimited"
Uh, no. You have the standard 5 GB monthly cap. :V
Anyway i can do this with a bad ESN Evo?
Could someone possibly go into more detail about this?
I've been lookin for a guide like crazy and cant find one, I'm a little confused on whether its as easy as changing the boost number and msid, some people say yes, some people say no you have to change the esn. Would somebody please verfiy!
You do not need to change anything to your phone. You simply need to get it on the Boost network. The only way to do that, is by calling and playing dumb. If you have a phone with a bad ESN, you would have to clone it, which is illegal. No 4G for Boost, only 3G.
ok has anyone tried the above method of changing the phone number and msid to match boost, ive tried and not getting it to go can someone please help. Phone has clean esn, is it only the one with bad esn that needs to be "esn repaired" please let me know thanks

Will it be possible to put the Epic on boost mobile like many have done the Touch pro 2 and some droid phones.
*Boost mobile is CDMA* non walkie talkie
*Boost Mobile is IDEN* with walkie talkie
I'd imagine that ESN swapping makes anything possible..
never done that before is that easy and how could i do that
It's illegal...
WHY is it illegal? whats the actuall reason why its Illegal?
It's an FCC violation to tamper with serial numbers. You're committing fraud.
Ok understood is there any other way that i could the epic 4g to work on boost
why? you that broke that you cant afford a monthly bill, but can afford the phone?
I CAN afford sprints everything data plan as well as i can afford Sprints simply unlimited plas as well as to purchase the phone out of contract i just dont like to be in contract and i prefer to pay $50 over $100 a month.

but for 50 dollars less, its a smaller network with no coverage.
Either way, no, it won't happen.
not true i have had great reception wherever i go the few times i have had no sprint service my phone goes into verizon service all that for $50 less on tp2

Tampering with serial numbers is illegal, but not taking the phone to another carrier. Thanks to the FCC you can take any phone to any compatible network. If IPhone was CDMA sprint would have to let you put it on. They may fight you and they don't have to support the phone, but they have to let you use it. This has been talked about tons of time on XDA. Search it. Boost will probably have no problems. Just no support for the phone.

Well one reason you care if they support it or not is because of issues you can potentially run into that can't be helped. I know someone who works for Criket who talks about people who bring phones from other carrier onto their plan, and how some people might not be able to send or receive, txts or calls or what not and the carrier can't support it at all. I guess if enough people put the epic on boost and it was a phone software thing that could be modified to make boost and the phone play nice then you'd have no issues, and of course it all depends, many phones will be just fine on other carriers, but there is the risk. Luckily since boost mobile is sprint, this hopefully is a nonissue and I'm just being silly.
First off, Sprint WILL NOT activate a non-sprint phone on their network. Simply will not happen, just like Verizon (who used to if you found an easy-going rep) will not. Since Boost IS Sprint, it just won't happen.
Secondly, the reason Sprint won't let you activate the phones on the Boost plan is because those devices are tied to specific plans that Sprint offers. There's a reason NOBODY has gotten an EVO, Instinct, Pre, Pixi, Hero, Moment, Bold, Tour, etc on Boost or Virgin without tampering with the ESNs, and it's the same reason why the Epic won't be on there either. The only Sprint phones you can activate on Boost are the non "everything plan required" phones, and you'll never see a non-Sprint, non-Boost phone on there.
I'm fairly certain you can use it on Cricket or MetroPCS, if that's useful. No promises that it'll work perfectly, but it'll likely work to some degree.

Cost of the phone is trivial compared to the plan.
I'm not going to start anything. Just google Evo on boost and it will probably lead to the same with the epic. But... There is always a way.
Ive read all sms mms and 3G works on EVO. No 4G. So I'd bet on the Epic too.

im going to do that maybe after or week or two of the phones releas. I know someone is gonna be able to do it. were there is a will theres a way! LoL. im perfectly fine with only 3g besides there isnt any 4g speeds where i live so it wont make any difference to me. i dont want to be stuck in a contract or have a plan with any limitations. oh and $100 a month for everything unlimited yeah right not gonna happen.
can it be done now? Epic on boost anyone care to share how too
i know its possible just want to know how
I downloaded a rom which had cdma network in the network list. I think it was the elegancia. Anyway, I want to scrap this crazy expensive tmobile plan and run the $50 a month Boost mobile? Can't the phone operate under this network in some fashion? I'm sure there's gotta be someone smart enough to get this to work. I believe this can be possible.
THANKS
I'm on the boost mobile site. It wants me to enter the sim id and IMEI. Couldn't i just pick up a sim from a boost mobile and get it working on my htc hd2?
the sim id is on the sim card. all those numbers and the imei is on the phone with the name imei. until now i didnt even know boost supported CDMA. i use mysimplemobile.com for my hd2. dont need to unlock and works fine.

I get .7Mbps. Yes, that's right. 700kbps!!! i believe it's 768kbps. Not even a single freakin megabit! No matter where i am. I could have full 3g bar and only get .7mbps. It's slow and crappy as hell. That's why i don't wanna pay this much for this crappy slow service...
Even though boost uses sim cards, they do not operate on the same radio band as gsm and use different protocols. There is no way to get an hd2 to work on boost due mainly to hardware problems. iden is simply not GSM

ya NOT possible i work for sprint and the hd2 or any gsm phone out there will never work on the nextel network. has to be a "IdEN" phone to be used with boost mobile. GSM and IdEN are too completely networks its like trying to play xbox games on a ps3 and vice versa.. not gonna happen..
When I bought my Epic few Sprint sales rep told me that we will be getting 4G in Buffalo NY in october, here comes january still no 4G.
Well I went to sprint store and asked why they chargin me for 4G when we dont have it yet(and most times im getting 2g speed on 3g,lol).This is what they said "We are charging you for the fastest cpu, even though we dont have 4g speed the cpu pulls information so fast that its considered 4g"lmfao!So I told the dude "listen you can tell that to a child that was born yesterday" but he insisted that he knew what he was talking about, lol,in other words I dint get anywhere.Speaking to a different rep she told me something like that also, lol. And a third rep said some differet but equally outrageous sht.
So my question is:Is this legal for them to be bullshitng us like that?Because im thinking about going back to sprint store and recording that conversation, but what can I do with it?Sprint promised me 4G and on that bassis I droped Tmobile which was way faster than Sprint(5-7mbps vs sprint's 1-2mbps) and now Tmobile is even faster. So I droped my beloved tmobile and got Epic instead of Vibrant on a 4G promise and now im being charged for 4G that I dont have, lol.
Anyone have any advice? Can I return my Epic and can i be tooken off the contract and get my money back?
lots of threads online for it..basicly your SOL. its a "premium data" charge cuz your phone can do more is their recent quote. The sad thing is they are going after clearwire (which they own a major share of) because only like 10% of epic and evo owners live in 4g areas and they dont want to pay clear wire for every evo/epic. but they have no plans on removing the charge from us. So either ***** enough to get out of your contract and move to another carrier or deal with it. Also you could set you phone into roam only mode and talk non stop and DL on verizon and sprint will break the contract for you =)
Yes its legal, you signed the contract. They are being sued, so while its obvious they are charging you for 4g, they now describe the fee as paying for the advanced hardware and not actually the 4g.

How can you help? Call up sprint and cancel your contract. Make it clear to them that you will not pay for a service you cannot use.
Otherwise, just pay the fee and realize that even without 4g you are getting a better deal than you would on any other wireless provider.

The only way to do that is illegal. There is no "flashing" to verizon, as verizon does not offer the Epic. The only way to do it is by fuddling with ESN's and that is not legal.
Also, wait until you see the prices Verizon will put on its 4g service. Think they are gonna offer it for free? LOL.

Yes they are charging you for the Premium Data Addon which all of their top end phones require...the Addon includes 4g, unlimited data, telnav gps, "honor of using a better phone on their network", "cool tax" and a few other things...its like when hotels have "Resort Fees" and include some things only 1% of the people use anyways...
Either way I personally don't mind the fee anymore..don't get me wrong I'm not exactly thrilled about it and find it dumb too..but I would rather have a $10 fee then tiered data like the other guys >.>
And yes FDD-LTE used on verizon and AT&T will be 700mhz, Wimax is 2.5ghz...

T-mobile had a data cap of 5gb..but they dropped it in favor of throttling...aka if they see you having too much data multiple months they will throttle you...
As for sprint..they have unlimited 3g and 4g data..the data cap limits are on wireless cards..not cellphones....
They do now have a cap. All carriers have a "soft" cap, but Sprint if you have 4G doesn't have a cap. 3G has a soft cap.

I sell phones for an indirect agent and we get grilled about that all the time. The fact of the matter is, you're usually going to pay less with Sprint, even with the Premium Data Add-on. It's for the 'big screen, fast processor, and access to the 4G network' is what I tell customers. You can look at it one of two ways- 1) They're charging you a mandatory fee for a hardware feature- not a network feature- so it's bogus. Without 4G you have no 'Premium Data' experience. 2) These two phones are far superior to any other offerings on Sprint- even the Optimus S doesn't really even come close. You're going to have a lot better internet experience than someone with one of the other phones- it will be measurably faster even on 3G.
What you have to ask yourself is- would you have a problem with them charging a lower rate for someone with a flip-phone to have unlimited internet than someone with an Android phone? If that doesn't seem to unreasonable, then realize that this isn't too much different.
In regards to the legality of it- you signed a contract, and that contract did not guarantee you would ever have WiMax in your area. The sales rep might have told you that, but it wasn't part of your contract. You can try really hard to be let out of your contract, and they might let you, but their position is (legally) sound.
Sprint doesn't have a cap for 4g because they don't know how much you use. This may have changed (doubt it), but they can't even look it up. I worked at sprint tech support for a year back when wimax was introduced to the networkm
Sprint doesn't have a cap for 3G or 4g.

And you have a tech job, lol.Cpu speed or ram amount dont have nothing to do with internet speed. No disrespect to you becuse youre probably reading this of sprint's manuscript. But anyone that has knowledge of electronics knows that this is bs that dont even makes sense to human brain.
I owned Behold 2 and MTS3gs with 600mhz cpu(phones half as powerful as Epic) and they both were almost as fast as sprint's 4g on tmobile's hsdpa network. You mean to tell me that sprint is charging me for 4G addon hardware inside Galaxy S Pro(Epic) that I bought and own?At least they can come up with a better sounding scam, and if sales rep promised a 4g that never came that should give a consumer a right to get out of contract.
Processor speed does affect Internet speed. You can load pages cached faster with a faster processor.

Google how to do it with the Epic 4G...thats how I go mine on Boost. There is a youtube video and a section here on XDA in the Epic android development section on how to get data working on the Epic on boost mobile. It works for the NS4G..trust me..
as mentioned above.. its the exact same method as epic. tho the code to put the phone in diag mode is different. *#*#DIAG#*#*

there are no RSA keys in the nexus s. thats htc stuff. its the mac address that gets put into the system. and the ppl getting 4g via other means dont have it activated on sprint.. theyve edited the mac address to one that is valid. HOW they edited the mac is my question.
*edit*
i will agree partly with what lancerEVA has stated.. some phones have previously been activated and kinda got lost in the system for now. but i still stick with my original message... there are people that are editing the mac address manually.
on the epic this was possible using the wimax debug menus. these menus have been removed on the nexus.
Why would anyone want to use a Nexus S 4G phone on Boost? Boost Mobile consists entirely of iDENT which is totally incompatible with the Nexus S 4G. Boost phones that use CDMA just use the Sprint towers anyways so there would be no difference in coverage. Boost Mobile has never, ever had CDMA towers of their own. Also, iDENT is vastly inferior to CDMA in every way. iDENT is just TDMA with a few "enhancements" like AT&T's old network used to be.

Yea your right...the coverage is the same....I get the same ho-hum 3G speeds with Boost as I do Sprint except I'm paying $45 for unlimited everything because of the shrinkage plan with Boost. What are you talking about Boost has never, ever had a tower of there own? Hey "techguy"...do you realize there owned by Sprint?...and by the way, when you say iDENT are you referring to iDEN? They have CDMA and iDEN networks and the Nexus will run off of the CDMA network like on Sprint because it is Sprint...get it?

exactly.. people use sprint phones on boost for the best of both worlds. virgin is also a great candidate.. the $25 plan is pretty nice. tho i did just read that virgin will be getting rid of unlimited data.. well.. throttling after 2.5GB I believe. regardless.. 2 great options besides Sprint.. which is a great option compared to the other US carriers. win/win/win.

Is it safe to do software upgrades on the phone when I get it? And if I do any software upgrade after I get it flashed, will I lose my 3g or mms?
Ok, so I have a i465 currently, which is iden. I'm assuming to use my Epic 4g I'd have to have an android plan to be able to use all of the features, correct? I'm "guessing" that's why everyone talks about doing it based off the Incognito, well when I say everyone I mean most of the guides I've read...
The Epic 4g I have currently IS activated on a Sprint Unlimited Plan, which I hope doesn't screw me over. I just really couldn't find a solid guide on how to get the Epic to Boost. :-/
Sorry for taking your time with such a silly question, and yes I did search but couldn't find a solid guide on it.
Thanks for your time.
to get the epic 4g on boost you just need cdma, you dont need the android plan. you also need(as far as i know) a Sanyo Incognito phone from boost as your donor phone and you should be fine even if the epic you have is already activated with sprint just if you ever want to get the phone back on sprint save your secret keys(youll understand more when you look at the guides)

So, dumb question is dumb, but why exactly do they have android specific plans? Just to make more money off people who buy android phones? :-/

The "ANDROID" plans are plans that include support for the android phones they sell.
It is legally questionable to differentiate prices on a phones OS. That is not what they are doing. They are differentiating pricing based on support levels for a far more complex phone than a typical, say, BREW phone.
Boosts Android phones require much higher levels of Customer service and regular software updates and customer Service Training updates for the life of the phone. This is what you are paying for when you buy an "ANDROID" plan.
IF you put an epic on Boost, you will have NO support from boost. But you have XDA, and we can be your new Support.
Alrighty then, I guess I'm off to buy a Incognito today. Oh, one more really quick question. I have 3 phones atm. ATT, Sprint, Boost. Forgetting about ATT since it's obviously a different network, on my boost phone I have full signal, but on my Epic, I only have 1 or 2 bars usually, is that because of the iden/cdma difference or will I have full bars when I take the epic to boost?

Are you saying your Iden Boost has full bars? And your Sprint (CDMA) has 1 or 2?
That is expected. Your IDEN has very nice 800MHz frequency. Your Sprint uses 1900MHz. Sprint hopes to soon end iDen and get that tasty 800MHz for their CDMA phones. But for now, they cannot.
The Lower Frequency has better building/mass penetration and thus more bars. Thus you should expect your new Boost CDMA phone to have the same as your sprint phone.
