HTC HD2 - Unlock to CMDA Boost Mobile? - HD2 General

I downloaded a rom which had cdma network in the network list. I think it was the elegancia. Anyway, I want to scrap this crazy expensive tmobile plan and run the $50 a month Boost mobile? Can't the phone operate under this network in some fashion? I'm sure there's gotta be someone smart enough to get this to work. I believe this can be possible.
THANKS

I'm on the boost mobile site. It wants me to enter the sim id and IMEI. Couldn't i just pick up a sim from a boost mobile and get it working on my htc hd2?

the sim id is on the sim card. all those numbers and the imei is on the phone with the name imei. until now i didnt even know boost supported CDMA. i use mysimplemobile.com for my hd2. dont need to unlock and works fine.

I get .7Mbps. Yes, that's right. 700kbps!!! i believe it's 768kbps. Not even a single freakin megabit! No matter where i am. I could have full 3g bar and only get .7mbps. It's slow and crappy as hell. That's why i don't wanna pay this much for this crappy slow service...

Even though boost uses sim cards, they do not operate on the same radio band as gsm and use different protocols. There is no way to get an hd2 to work on boost due mainly to hardware problems. iden is simply not GSM

I don't know if it's worth the trouble. I'm paying 69.99 for 1000 minutes since that's all i need and unlimited everything else. I also pay the 22.50 for the phone. So i'm paying a little less than $100 since i changed the plan. I have a bill for roughly $110. That's so high. I wish i could get a service for $50 and have my total under $80 a month...

hahha thanks for the laughs.. j/p

Nextel and Hermes

Does Any Knows If A Nextel Sim Works In a Hermes ??
Or Any Know How To Make It Work??
In Advance Thx
Uh, can we say totally different radio technology?
its the Titan that u need, not the hermes
Sprint Mogul is what you are lookin for. You might wanna do a little research on phone technologies and the various radio technologies that all the companies use. cdma/gsm/iden
But the Mogul is CDMA No Gsm and the Nextel Sim Works With the GPRS Etc Etc
gprs is something else and nextel is IDEN
Are Sprint data plans compatible with 8525 ?
I'm a newbie when it comes to wireless technologies, so I apologize if this is a silly question -
Since this thread is about Hermes/8525 and Nextel, which is related to Sprint, I thought this question might belong in this thread:
is there any chance that an unlocked 8525 could work with Sprint PCS Vision data plan? I'm asking because Sprint's data plans are really inexpensive compared to AT&T's (I'd rather not go with AT&T anyway).
If Sprint + 8525 combination does not work, what other options are for providers of data plans besides AT&T?
Thanks a lot for any ideas.

Actually, Sprint's technology is NOT related to Nextel. They are 2 COMPLETELY different Radio types. The confusion comes into play because Sprint bought out Nextel 2 years ago (which, by the way, is when Nextel went to hell... but that's another story). Nextel uses Motorola's IDEN radio technology which was the original (and still the best) Push-to-talk type. Sprint uses CDMA radio technology (Same as Verizon) these have identifiers LOCKED to the individual phones themselves and are NOT compatible with ATT/TMobile/Other GSM networks.
Nextel and ATT/TMobile/Other GSM carriers may both use SIM cards but rely on independent technologies.
Recap:
Nextel/Boost/AMP = IDEN
Sprint/Verizon = CDMA
ATT/T-Mobile = GSM
There are NO radio types that are intercompatible.
Assuming that you are in the States, then the only other real option is T-Mobile.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. So I think I'll go with AT&T after all and get a refurbished Samsung Sync with 3G SIM and Media Max for $20 online, then put the SIM into the 8525 once I have it unlocked (hopefully this weekend). Let me know if you see any issues with that.
Thanks a lot again.
First u have to spit all over the part of the SIM with the gold colored stuff, then lick the battery terminals and touch them against ur nextel sim. the last step is to insert it into the phone. if that fails then place the phone on the ground with the slide open and urinate on it while u hum the national anthem(USAOnly).
if that fails then call ur carrier and tell them the steps you took so they can mail u a warranty exchange device.
**edit**
many users have reported that carriers like ATT will give you with up to a month of free services if u tell them the promotion code below and that u can use ATT media net instead of the pda plan to get unlimited tethering. tell them that you let at least 10 other friends(with their phone #s) in on the deal and they will give u 3 months of free medianet!

Anyone using Virgin Mobile For N1? Incredible $25 Mo Service

Stumbled on Virgin Mobile and saw their incredible $25 a month pricing. Don't think they have 3G, but wondered if anyone has used the service or has their N1 on it.
Won't work. Virgin Mobile runs on Sprint's network, and there is no Sprint version of the Nexus One. You're stuck with GSM carriers only, like T-Mobile and AT&T.
that would be sweet, but tmobile is still the fastest, and the best in my opinion.
Anyone try this out yet? I know virgin mobile piggy backs off sprints network, but is it "my phone works but is super crippled" or "data and voice will not work at all ".
For me, even if I am limited to edge, unlimited data and text with 300 minutes is a great deal for me at this point of my life. Thanks for any input.

As long as Virgin runs on Sprint's CDMA network, you can't use your N1 on it. N1 is only available in GSM flavors.

[Q] HD2 USA and AT&T

Hey I'm gonna buy a tmobile HD2 from a friend of mine and I want to know if it can be use with AT&T.
Also do I haave to get a data plan with this phone?
Yes it can be used with AT&T but you will not get 3G speeds due to the specific bands the phone has.
I have an international HD2 and am using it on AT&T without data plan because AT&T does not have the IMEI for my phone in their database and thus cannot automatically add the smartphone plan. I'm not sure if they have the T-Mobile HD2 IMEIs.
I too have an international HD2 and am runing it on AT&T. You can't use the T-Mobile US one - the bandwidth doesn't work on AT&T only an international version will work.
I was going to say the same thing they said
You can use an Australian HD2 with AT&T and get 3G speeds. Mine works just fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633404
I am running an unlocked TmoUSA HD2 on AT&T and it works just fine. Other than the fact that I have no 3G with this on the AT&T network. I am very happy with the performance since I live in an area with no 3G coverage at all. I have to drive 15 miles to get into 3G coverage area.
Yeah Baaaby AT&T .... not!!
When in the hell is AT&T going to take expanding their 3G coverage areas seriously? I wonder what it feels like to be the AOL of the cellular world, all those customers and so little speed. This really sucks bigtime!

Do not put your AT&T sim card into a T-Mobile HD2. They will automatically "upgrade" your account to $30/month blackberry data. I had a $10/month unlimited that disappeared and I can't get it back now.

I used a T-Mobile HD2 for 5 months on AT&T without any problems except for no 3G. I used the $10mo data plan and still am. I now use a Telstra HD2 and enjoy full 3G coverage on AT&T. Both HD2's are unlocked and yes, the AT&T sim works fine. Just don't walk in to their store and expect them not to hammer you with the $30 data plan.
There's a real nice fellow from Australia that sold me my 2 HD2's. Very honest and reasonable. If you want his eBay ID, anyone can PM me and I will forward it. Beware of other internet store sellers! Some are selling the same phones for $100+ more and some people have been either screwed out of their money or have gotten refurb/used phones. Honesty is in short supply these days so be careful.
I unlock it... Just call T-mobile and ask for the pin that was yesterday and today got it by email.
Now the phone is for my girlfriend and I she doesn't have any data plan and she doesn't want any....Can this be done? have the phone without any data plan on AT&T?

if they happen to add it on there (by doing a maintenance sweep daily), give them a call and demand that they put DATA OPT-OUT on that line.
Thanks ill call before putting the don card in....I thought that it was mandatory with the phone.

It IS mandatory, that applies to ANY smartphone. Whatever you do, DO NOT tell them you are using any smartphones. iPhones are all in their database since they were the exclusive dealers for them so it's impossible (as far as I know) to use an iPhone on AT&T without them nailing you for a $30 data plan since all the IMEI's are pre-loaded in AT&T's system. At least with the HD2's and other non-AT&T branded smartphones, they don't have the IMEI's and can't just hit you with the data plan.
It's in their contract, any smartphone use requires a data plan. Of course, they also hit you for a tethering fee as well for the privilege of using tethering (computer to smartphone connection) even though there's nothing special about it nor does it use the data service any differently. Just another way for AT&T to stick it to the consumer.

htc evo on boost mobile

what you need!!!!! to get an EVO and put it on BOOST. I was with SPRINT before and its riddiculous that i used to pay about $90-$1000/month with my Touch Pro2 and now i pay $50/month to use it on BOOST and i have the same service except everything is unlimited and i have no phone insurance. Calling BOOST to activate an EVO will definitely not work but if u already have a BOOST CDMA account all you really need is the MSL code for the EVO then reprogram it with your BOOST# and MSID, thats what I did with my TP2 and its been working great since Feb. Have not heard anybody whos tried it yet but im sure they will. Theres is no 4G service in NYC as of yet so thats no problem as SPRINT makes you pay$10 extra for something you dont have. Metro PCS is supposedly getting 4G service by Dec. so BOOST which is owned by SPRINT is sure to be getting it too and if I have to pay $10extra to BOOST then so be it $60/month is great compared to paying at least $40/month more to SPRINT for the same thing
Ever heard of commas and paragraphs?

#1. It is not the exact same service, in the past boost phones were mainly nextel devices, the nextel network isn't nearly as large. Both current boost phones like the katana, blackberry, etc. and virgin mobile phones connect to a LIMITED number of sprint towers, its not the same coverage.
#2. How is boost going to charge you $10 for 4g service on a phone it doesn't offer and a service it won't provide?
"except everything is unlimited"
Uh, no. You have the standard 5 GB monthly cap. :V
Anyway i can do this with a bad ESN Evo?
Could someone possibly go into more detail about this?
I've been lookin for a guide like crazy and cant find one, I'm a little confused on whether its as easy as changing the boost number and msid, some people say yes, some people say no you have to change the esn. Would somebody please verfiy!
You do not need to change anything to your phone. You simply need to get it on the Boost network. The only way to do that, is by calling and playing dumb. If you have a phone with a bad ESN, you would have to clone it, which is illegal. No 4G for Boost, only 3G.
ok has anyone tried the above method of changing the phone number and msid to match boost, ive tried and not getting it to go can someone please help. Phone has clean esn, is it only the one with bad esn that needs to be "esn repaired" please let me know thanks

HD2 on virgin mobile (US)?

I have a t-mobile hd2. Once I get it unlocked I plan to take it on virgin mobile. They have a good prepaid plan for 25/month with 300 voice and unlimited data+txt which seems perfect for me.
Should I expect it to work like normal? Are there any limitations (would I get 3g speeds)? Will I need to change settings around?
HD2 is GSM. Virgin Mobile is CDMA. So it isn't going to work.
Virgin Mobile only lets you use the devices they sell anyway.

I have come across a gsm provider called simple mobile. I'm going to give them a call later in the week. Just in case At&T does buy T-Mobile.

Simple Mobile is a MVNO operating on T-Mobile's network. Not sure what is going to happen with them, yet.
