Why when I plug my device up to the pc it gets slower? doest not happen when I charge it.
The usb port on the laptop probably does not provide enough current/power.

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a Universal but I've a question on the USB port.
Has anyone tried connecting a USB hard drive directly to the Universal? I have a Archive Gmini 220 and I was wondering if the Universal would see it as an external drive and if this is the case can it run media on the drive such as MP3 or AVI files? Also has anyone tried connecting a card reader to read CF or Memory sticks etc.
Any rumours of a Universal with internal hard drive?
Captaink
Olnly thing i've heard is it does support but peoples who already tried says nevr made it work.
That's because just as with a normal PC it needs drivers to work with your device.
It's just a matter of time........

Agreed. This picture

clearly shows the mini-AB receptacle

Having a USB socket doesnt mean its a USB host!!!
It has to have that mini usb socket so that you can sync and charge, as they dropped the old style 21pin connector now. Its just like the Magician with usb only now.
There have been rumours it supports USB host mode, but ive not heard any confirmation or proof.
in this review of the device they say it does host

The PXA270 has a builtin USB host and
can operate as an OTG device. The guys
at HTC must be really sick if they have
not wired it.
I don't get only one thing: what USB 2.0
means here ? OTG ?
in which case it seems that HP and DELL are sick aswell

Hiya guys.
Lets get right to the point, I am having problems with my Play and it is REALLY annoying me now.
After rooting, i am having loads of problems connecting my phone to my PC with a USB cable, i am using the USB that came with the phone, so i know its a decent cable.
The phone will charge when its plugged in, but does not register on the PC, in My Computer, or through SE PC Companion.
After plugging it in and unplugging it a few times, and maybe a couple reboots, it will finally connect, so i have to make sure i do EVERYTHING i want to do there and then, and not unplug it, or i will have the same problems all over again.
I have tried it in MTP and MSC, and used USB Debugging mode too, with the same result.
Any help would be great, cos this is actually quite a big problem.

When you plug it in do you slide the top down and select either to connect as a drive or for media transfer?
When i plug it in, nothing comes up on the top bar, it says it is charging, but nothing else comes up, untill i have dont the in out in out routine with the usb cable loads, lol.
By chance are you using the cable that came with the Car charger? That's power only
When you connect do you get a USB icon in the taskbar (lower right corner) of the PC? And when you double click it does it say "Unknown Device"?
Edit: This does this on my work PC also. At home it connects ok. I didn't root my phone.
I'm using a cheap dollar store one at work. I just want charge it anyway.

They both seem the same to me, and they both work for the car charger AND for the computer. The cable works for other micro-usb devices, like my old phone, so i dont think it is the cable.

Nothing comes up on the computer, the phone says "Connected in Media Transfer Mode" but nothing happens on the PC. (Although THIS time it connected fine, lol.)

Pretty sure they are both the same, lol, just ran outside to my car (in the rain lol) and the both look identical!!
Hmm okay so it's not the cable, have you tried it on a different computer? Maybe your PS3?

On the outside they are but the inside is only connected for charging. lol
It is the same with the iPhone. There are many Charging only cables.
I just got the usb adapter and it work fine with a mouse or keyboard. The problem is I didn’t get it for that. I got it to plug in an external usb drive and for that it is useless. I have tried no less than five different usb drives and the tab sees them as a usb drive but I can’t read or write to them. They are all Fat 32 and under 32gb. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Or is there something wrong with the adapter?
Thanks.
I'm able to transfer files with no issues at the moment.
I had success by using a file manager app I got from the market, then navigate to /usbStorage/sda

Make sure to be working in sd card usb area because if you look in the regular usb area it does not show up
If the drive is a spinning harddrive you need to use a powered hub. Plug the external drive into the powered hub, then plug the hub into the usb adapter. Then plug the adapter into the tablet. I hope this helps you.

Did you also enable the superspeed option in the bios? Did you install the USB 3.0 driver in your OS?
If all of them are not met, your hardware will only run at USB 2.0 speed.
How to enable superspeed in bios

Just check your bios and search for the usb options where you can adjust the parameters.

it won't charge any faster. and to enable usb3 once you plug your phone in you have to go to the notifications screen and touch the usb options and enable usb 3, it will only stay on for 10 minutes before turning itself off.
u get fast transfer speeds transferring to the internal memory, but the sd card is usually slower
mine won't charge any faster. and file transfer is not noticeably faster using usb 3.0
I thought the note 3 was going to be fast since it has usb 3.0 and all that?
I connected it to my front usb 3.0 port and it takes 8 and a half minutes to transfer a 2GB movie onto the sdcard which is a sandisk sdxc class 10 64GB stick while it takes 1-2 minutes when i connect it to my usb 3.0 card reader... how come it's so darn slow through the phone?
The motherboard im using is a Asus maximus VI hero
Is the phone in USB 3.0 MTP mode?
Also, the data is directed through phone motherboard, longer route means longer time (data transfer speed is also affected by the read/write capability of the SD slot on the phone).

Copy it onto the internal and you will notice how much faster it is. With usb 3 mode selected.

There should be some issue, either with your SD card or phone. Test copying same file into internal memory and then into card by usb 3.
I don’t have USB 3 in my PC and I always use 2.0 but transferring a 2GB video file by usb 2.0 never took over 2-3 minutes. By OTG cable from flash drive to sd card, same time. Even over wifi it doesn’t take that much time.
So try formatting the SD card and then input all data and test. I don’t think this will resolve, and you much check with Samsung service center.

MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is the mode to transfer data between PC and phone.
When you connect the phone to USB, the phone is in USB 2.0 MTP mode. You have to pull down notification bar, open the USB notification and switch to USB 3.0.
