I thought the note 3 was going to be fast since it has usb 3.0 and all that?
I connected it to my front usb 3.0 port and it takes 8 and a half minutes to transfer a 2GB movie onto the sdcard which is a sandisk sdxc class 10 64GB stick while it takes 1-2 minutes when i connect it to my usb 3.0 card reader... how come it's so darn slow through the phone?
The motherboard im using is a Asus maximus VI hero
Is the phone in USB 3.0 MTP mode?
Also, the data is directed through phone motherboard, longer route means longer time (data transfer speed is also affected by the read/write capability of the SD slot on the phone).

Copy it onto the internal and you will notice how much faster it is. With usb 3 mode selected.

There should be some issue, either with your SD card or phone. Test copying same file into internal memory and then into card by usb 3.
I don’t have USB 3 in my PC and I always use 2.0 but transferring a 2GB video file by usb 2.0 never took over 2-3 minutes. By OTG cable from flash drive to sd card, same time. Even over wifi it doesn’t take that much time.
So try formatting the SD card and then input all data and test. I don’t think this will resolve, and you much check with Samsung service center.

After connecting the phone, did you set the phone to USB 3.0 mode?
MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is the mode to transfer data between PC and phone.
When you connect the phone to USB, the phone is in USB 2.0 MTP mode. You have to pull down notification bar, open the USB notification and switch to USB 3.0.

Hey guys, quick question for those of you with the s5, and the usb 3.0 cable.
I am trying to transfer files from my windows 7 pc. with the usb 3.0 cable.
USB 2.0 works just fine, I switch over to usb 3.0, and the phone immediately dissapears from my pc.
Switch back to 2.0, and it reappears.
Is this happening to anyone else?
Maybe you have a faulty usb 3.0 cable. Try with a different usb 3.0 cable. If it's not the cable try on different computer. After that remains only one possibility: a faulty usb connector which means service. BTW you have usb 3.0 drivers installed on your w7?

Yeah i have a problem with the usb 3.0 too..
When i connect my phone via usb 2.0 it works fine but when i connect it via the usb 3,0 its still only shows up as a usb 2.0 device and the both only charge at 98ma :-/ brand new usb 3.0 cable. unistalled usb 3.0 drivers still no luck.

I've got this issue as well....
except when I attempt it on my work PC with W7 x64 it works in USB2.0 and USB3.0 mode. At home on my W7 x64 build it shows up under my computer in USB2.0 mode but disappears when switching to USB3.0 mode....
tried reinstalling drivers and all that jazz and no luck.
tried two USB3.0 cables and neither work on my home rig. i'm stumped
Plug in another USB 3.0 device such as a memory stick into your computer to determine whether the issue originates from the phone/USB cable or your computer. From what you described we cannot identify the root cause!

I had this issue too, then found it was my motherboard being the issue, i turned xHCI to on instead of auto (in the BIOS) and now when i connect my S5 with USB 3.0 cable the option for that mode will show on the phone.
Auto should work but it didn't seem to allow the S5 to trigger it, maybe because the S5 defaults to USB 2.0 and then you say to it to use USB 3.0
I do notice when switching modes the phone will vasish from the computer and then after a moment or 3 show up again

fiddled with bios settings on ASUS mobo... still no luck
a) Click on “Start” and Right Click on “Computer” and select “Manage”.
b) Now select “Device Manager” and Right Click on the individual “USB controller drivers” and select “Uninstall”.
c) Restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
if the cable is a cheap one that claimed to be usb 3.0 from eBay bin it and buy one from a decent retailer or Samsung
thanks for the ideas, tried device manager uninstall and reboot. still no luck. I"m using the provided samsung usb 3.0 cable so no issues there. very frustrating I cant use my phone connection to it's full potential

Old thread I know but here is what seems is the answer.
It seems when first connecting the usb it always defaults to usb2, but then can goto the usb settings on the phone afterwards and switch to media usb3 mode. I have not found a way to make it default to usb3 mode.

Appreciate the post but the issue wasnt actually switching into usb3 mode. That I knew how to do, it was that when I do switch the phone to USB3 mode it disappears from my file explorer and I cannot access the phone storage media unless I switch back to USB2 and then it pops up again in file explorer. I still havent found a solution and have come to the conclusion it is a hardware issue likely tied to my motherboard and have just accepted it and used it in it's limited form
I don't even see any option on my S5 to switch to USB3.....
Is this option device-specific?? I have the international version SM-G900H
Edit: never mind....the cable I had was a fake....
I tested my S5 with a cable from a USB 3.0 external hdd and it worked...

So are you saying that if the cable is faulty (or in other words, USB 3.0 is not achievable with the current connection) that the USB 3.0 option simply does not appear on the phone? That may explain why I am also only seeing MTP or PTP with a 3.0 cable and hub
Reading these replies and I still don't have a solution.
I have a Lenovo P50 ThinkPad and I normally connect my S5 via USB 2.0, but I'm wanting to transfer about 20gb of files off my microSD card to my machine. When I connect with 2.0, I can't even get the entire folder to show in the navigator window.
I tried to connect to the 3.0 ports, which I use with my external HDD with no problems. I'm even using the same cable.
And yes, it's a legit 3.0 cable.
Still no solution...
Did you find a solution?
Anyone know how to allow the USB 3.0 to stay on longer than 4 minutes? I will be transferring things to the SD card and it will disconnect on its own and I have to start over in 2.0 mode
Hi, I transfer big files, movies and pictures and the usb 3.0 keeps enabled. What I have noticed is tha if yoy leave your phone connected with no activity for a few minutes, rhe usb 3.0 connections resets to 2.0, but only if you dont transfer data for a period of time.
Does your rollback to 2.0 happens even if you transfer data to the phone?

I am wondering whether anyone has connected a USB 3.0 hub to the Axon 7.
The reason I ask is that I am going on a trip soon and want to back up my camera SD card each day to a USB stick. I don't want to take a laptop. What I'd like to do is connect a USB card reader / hub to the phone to copy files from the SD card to the USB stick at USB 3 speeds. Devices like the Ravpower wd03 only do usb 2, which will take ages per file.
Will this work? Will I need a USB 3 otg?

Update - USB Hub Works - but.....
OK, so I took the plunge and bought an Aukey USB C to USB 3 adaptor and a USB hub - one of these. I did it that was as I don't have other USB C devices.
The USB hub works fine with USB memory sticks. Each time i insert it registers a new USB OTG drive and I can happily copy to and from it (and more than one
But every time I insert an SD card into the SD reader, the Axon 7 gives me an error "Unsupported USB Drive: This device doesn't support thus USB drive. Touch to set up in a supported format". When I try to format the card, it fails.
Any ideas?
Update 2
I should add that:
1. The same problem occurs even if I use the MicroSD card I use in the phone - so it is not a formatting issue.
2. I also have a Note 5. If I connect the USB hub to that via a USB OTG, the Note 5 can happily read the SD Card.
3. The SD slot USB Hub works fine when when plugged into a PC.
Do I need an additional USB OTG? Will that conflict with the phone?
Update 3!!!
This is getting ridiculous but I want it to work.
So I tried plugging a SD Card reader into the USB hub. Lo and behold it works!!!! I wonder whether the issue is just that the SD card reader in the hub is missing something which allows the Axon to read the SD card.
That was only USB 2 - I am going to invest in a USB 3 SD card reader (my camera produces large files!) So I am going to invest in a small USB card reader and will report back.
Update 4
So the card reader has arrived as has my USB 3 stick. Now I can copy all the files from the SD Card to the USB Stick.
The only issue is that Dropbox scans the cards and starts trying to upload them as Camera uploads so I've had to kill the process.
The other issue is that my file manager (File Manager HD) doesn;t allow copying and I have to use the System file Manager, which is awful. Am going to work on that process over the weekend. Any suggestions gratefully received on that front!!!
Rubbish. Rubbish. Rubbish
The connection just isn't stable enough. The phone keeps saying that the card(s) keeping g being disconnected / removed. There is nothing wrong with the hub or either the USB stick or the sync card / card reader.
Last chance - I will add a power supply to the USB hub. If that doesn't work I'm afraid my views will be confirmed - this is a great phone with a great DAC but other than that it is just a bit rubbish and cheap for a reason, with a manufacturer which doesn't want to develop for it. I'm the EU least.

Does the G6 support USB otg? The reason I'm asking I bought a borescope camera and can't see to get it to work. Camera only cost $10 and if I can get this working I can sell my $1300 Snap-On camera that is the same thing
Same thing? Really?
I think he's basically referring to storage and photo quality together

Meaning I can use it to look through spark if hole or injector nozzle to see cylinder walls. Resolution should be almost identical except I have a HD+ screen on my phone that may help it look a little better.

Did you pick up an otg adapter dongle? The one I have is the "Anker USB-C to USB 3.1 Adapter".
No but I'll definitely pick one up.

At the top of the screen from the notification area, it showed USB icon and you can click on it to see files.
I didn't found solution for my problem, and i think there is no need to open new topic, but if you know - help me!
From purchase my H870I had a problem with USB OTG.
When memory card micro SD is inserted and mounted, everything is working properly.
When I connect USB OTG USB adapter with USB flash drive, or USB OTG memory card reader, then in notification area is "Android System - Reading USB Drive" all time.
In System settings - storage
is the information about internal memory and and memory card capacity and usage, and "USB Drive - checking"
In that state a cannot access any file on memory card. For example I can see photos and albums, but after opening one of them there is icon, that file is corrupted.
I need to reboot phone to memory card work properly again.
To see files on USB OTG device i need to unmount memory card in settings, and then plug USB OTG. After unplugging USB OTG I must mount memory card again.
Did you have a similar problem? I must say, that back to factory state, and oreo update (also last ThinQ update) didn't resolve my problem. Do you have any solution? Can you give your ideas to resolve this problem?
I'd try a second usb flash drive. If you get the same hanging issue, I'd expect it's something bad with your usb otg adapter. Sometimes an adapter might work okay with one phone, but be kind of on the hairy edge and not work with a second phone.
I use the anker usb c to usb otg adapter a lot with my g6, since I first got it over a year ago. I do transfers to multiple flash drives.
Good luck!
I tried a different USB card reader, and it's working perfectly. Thanks for help!
I launched an app on my Nvidia Shield TV today only to have it stop during the loading process and return me to the home screen. I was stumped as to why the app was no longer there, and after a re-boot, I made my way to Settings > Device Preferences > Storage, only to discover that in addition to my Internal shared storage, I had two additional messages:
SanDisk USB drive is safely ejected
(Sandisk USB drive) Not connected
This is a Sandisk Ultrafit USB 3.0, one of the ones that was recommended by NVidia to use with the Sield.
I've tried unplugging the USB drive, powering off, unplugging the Shield, re-plugging the USB drive in. I've also tried plugging the USB into my PC (not recognized, needs to be formatted) and "Safely ejecting", but no difference.
What's going on, and how do I get the Shield to recognize this drive again without losing everything I had installed on it?
Probably USB drive get corrupted or even worse, broken. Happened to me with some cheap drive connected to RBPi. Disappeared from Linux, PC couldn't recognize either and it was even showing physical damage of overheating?!

They don't recommend anything anymore, other than a fast ssd.
However, they did sort of recommend the SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD before the list got removed.
Don't think you will go wrong with a samsung t5 or a western digital my passport either.
These are the most "recommended" and used usb ssd's.
