Ok the other day my cousin and i was debating on which of our phones was better. He has a blackberry and of course i have my epic. He was going on and on about how much better the web was so i was like show me. He went to facebook i was like are you f...ing kidding me the mobile site. So i said go to www.newgrounds.com so went to the site and of course his blackberry choked he looked at my phone and said i was cheating and have hacked software in my phone i was like no buddy it's called adobe flash. Now go to the store and pick up android. Do anyone else got any funny stories about none android users thinking their windows mobile webos or even dare i say it iphone is better than what android is laying out right now. Oh yeah his blackberry can't even do youtube lol
Its true you are cheating because officially no samsung galaxy s phones have adobe flash only flash lite which wouldnt run most of the content on newgrounds. CHEATER!
I have friends that think there iphone 4 is better, then i show them my awesome screen and all the awesome capabilities i do with it, and the are envious, and envious with my fast data service even on 3g my data speeds blow at&t out of the water. I also have people telling me that are obsessed with verizon and the damn droid models (ie: Droid x,Droid,DRoid 2) They dont understand that the epic is a droid, lol and blows there damn droids out of the water with all aspects.

A customer came in the other day. He is a friend of my boss'.. My boss asked him "is that an iPhone".. customer "yeah".. I was like "really ??.. check this out"
Grabbed my car keys and asked if I could see his phone for a second.. he was very hesitant... I offered him up my Epic to inspect real carefully... made sure he saw that there was NO screen protector on it.. then i proceeded to try and scratch the hell outta my SAMOLED.... then showed it to him and it was still perfect.. he was amazed..
Then he told me that he dropped it off his car seat one day while getting out of his car and the screen broke. So I (inside hesitation didnt take over, but was VERY present) held my phone w/ the screen face down about 3ft. from the concrete and dropped it. No scratches, no cracks, perfect condition (thank goodness)... he was VERY impressed.. I told him to go get something w/ Gorilla glass... and he was oogling over how bright and crisp the display was on the Epic too.. heh..
I love turning off the 'fan' in the 'fanbois' LMFAO

Ranting it can do this and that i said look i had a BB.
great phone when it works freezing, long boot times etc. slow etc. yada yada.
He played with my epic and was stunned at the speed of the phone
The samoled blew him away also. I played a blu-ray ripped movie and he was in love lol.
needless to say the very next day he called me to ask where i got the info on rooting the phone.
he is now an epic user and an xda member lol.
running 2.2 fro-yo leak and more functionality than the BB ever had lol.

My brother has the iPhone 4.He came over the other day and pulled it out,"hey look at this resolution" ,he pulls up some high def images,I said send them to me.So now we are side by side,he fell in love...That higher resolution on a smaller screen with washed out colors and no true black make the screen look like ****... He wants a galaxy S now.

i like the animations on iOS.
I love the super AMOLED and 4" is a perfect screen size. You don't have to squint to enjoy its resolution.
You can't even replace the battery of an iPhone. Steve Jobs says it's good for 10 hours. What if Steve Jobs gets wheeled into his surgery when he got his liver replaced and the surgeon goes "Replace your Liver? No! It's good for 10 hours!"

Made my Nexus run iPhone OS last night.... Sweet
Interesting...
You are kidding me, right?
Or you just have a screenshot on there.
...not! Where is the instruction, more sreenshots, downloadlinks???
However: It looks interesting but i dont think so, that you've manged it "last night".
I can tell by the pixels.
Come on guys.. you really believe someone ported an OS to a new platform 'last night' expecially when that OS has no source code available and is only available for a very specific hardware configuration - even writing and integrating the drivers woud be a nightmare.
I could just about believe someone porting WinMo and that would be a major undertaking (unless one of the HTC phones has sufficiently similar hardware).
Far easier to photoshop a picture of an iphone on top of an N1.
Look, I ran 1.6 on mine, lol, definitely a screenshot.
Why would I care or for the fact even want the iPhone OS running on my Android phone. The reason I got an Android is that I wanted an Android. Blah.
If you wanted an iPhone then go get one.

Y u would even want to tarnish the phone by faking that is beyond me.
The picture doesn't even look photoshopped. It looks paintshopped! For anyone that's convinced this is real please take a look at the screen edges. The iPhone screen is smaller and this guy can't figure out how to stretch the image to the fit the bezel. Also his hand has no pixelation but the screen does? Funny funny... so funny. If you really are that lazy maybe you should get an iPhone.

Grats, you just lost multitasking? Enjoy doing 1 thing at a time while the rest of us do 5 (or 30).
And am I the only one that thinks this, but the iPhone OS is extremely ugly??? That home screen makes me throw up. A live wallpaper that I can choose, one that moves and responds to touch, or a boring black background with nasty icons?
Whether or not this is fake, the very existence of this thread thread enrages me.
If you're going to fake it at least change the network to one that's supported.

DO NOT GET THE EVO (if you already have a Nexus One)
I just got the EVO and it just does not compare to the Nexus one.
I rarely every open up new threads, but I just don't want to see anyone jump ship based off the "specs".
I have several smart phones. I've tried to dethrone my nexus one with: HD2, EVO 4G, iPhone 3GS (I'm about to run out of money lol). And none of which give you the experience the Nexus One does.
Biggest Issues:
The LCD screen makes the colors look washed out (blacks seem like grays, and reds seem pinker) compared to the N1 with it's AMOLED
Sense slows the device down noticeably (and you can't turn sense off don't believe the hype)
The N1 makes the EVO seem clunky: The EVO gets slightly thicker/fatter as it get near the camera
Pixel Density! The EVO and the N1 has the same amount of pixels but because the N1 screen is smaller things end up being more crisp! especially noticeable with live Wall papers!
You can't use default Android messaging, nor can you use default Android Contacts. HTC contact (IMHO) is really ugly, opinions aside its freaking slow!
Track Ball! Man! I did not know how useful that thing was until now! lol. It (to me) is the most efficient solution for selecting text, without fumbling around with directional pads on the virtual keyboard, especially annoying if you have something like Swype (swype is awesome btw, there's now way I'm doing away with that).
I'm sorry guys I don't mean to rant and I DON'T regret my purchase. I'm going to try and load froyo on there and see if that fixes most the issues, but HTC SHOULD have given us a way to shut off Sense!
I'll admit I have to do some more testing, but the N1 has the lead right now. I'll try really hard to get some videos and pictures up.
I have not doubt this great community that I've been a part of for years will address most of these issues but's it's going to be a bumpy ride
If anyone has these two devices, let me know how you feel.
Thanks for reading this.
Turn sense off by going to settings. Applications. Find htc sense and force close it... I saw it on a video or something. Yes sense can be shut off.
It don't have anything I want I love my n1. The Evo don't beat it imo.

With froyo (no sense) it will be closer to the N1, only things I like about the evo is the screen size (not so much anymore) and the camera.

Its a good choice for someone who likes Sprint and I am glad that they finally got a highend superphone. It was long overdue for the poor people that Love Sprint service (its great in my area) but have had to suffer for crappy phones all these years.
That being said I can see ditching my Nexi and my Even More Plus plan to sign a contract for basically the same phone. Nexi takes the cake with its super fast updates.

I actually give the edge to the nexus one reason is: Number 1 and Number 4 in my post:
The LCD screen makes the colors look washed out (blacks seem like grays, and reds seem pinker) compared to the N1 with it's AMOLED
Pixel Density! The EVO and the N1 has the same amount of pixels but because the N1 screen is smaller things end up being more crisp! especially noticeable with live Wall papers!
I just hope someday that there will be a "mini usb to HDMI out" cord. I believe I said that right. I'd love to have the N1 appear on the tv screen. Anyway, I order my N1 this monday, I can't wait.
I had the desire before swapping + cash for a nexus one. Same thing there. each time u stopped the htc sense and cleared the defaults, the minute u press home, htc sense reloaded itself. The reason for not being able to stop sense is that htc actually removed the android launcher. all u have to do is install a launcher , go and stop the htc sense in settings-app-..... and then press home and select the launcher u installed.
or u can just install a launcher, and then install home switcher from market.

Just got me Evo, and I have Nexus one still. Well, I agree with OP when it comes to washed out colors, etc. BUT, that complaint can only be made if you have Nexus, this phone still blows everything else out of the water, aside from Nexus. I really liked HD2, minus the WinMo, so EVO really caught my eye lol.
I am still on T-Mobile, got Evo because I can still return and get out of contract with Sprint within 30 days... T-Mobile + Nexus = **** in my area... I get great 3G speeds (1.5mb down/400up) which is higher than what Sprint gets me, but it's so inconsistent. Constant 3g timeouts, takes ages to load pages because of it. Constant need to reboot due to texts not going out (tried all radios). Calls not coming through, list goes on. Having a great phone with all these issues is a killer to me, specially when I'd like to have data with me since I listen to Pandora in my car.
Anyways, this rant is mostly about Tmobile and Nexus combo, so for me the switch was justifiable, but phone to phone, I would still give the crown to Nexus.
I looked at the Evo in Best Buy today, the colors on screen are definitely lacking, as well as the pixel issue. Everything seemed stretched to it's limit.
I'm sticking with my N1, I love it to much.
I just went to the sprint store and played with the evo and was much more impressed then I thought I would be with its build quality. It felt very solid and I love the smooth back of the device. But I now 100% hate sense UI without a doubt. The phone was slower and laggy and this phone is brand new so its not bogged down yet.
damn, maybe i can convince my family to stick to current provider (ATT); we are planning on switching to Sprint because we can get 2x minutes, everyone (4 lines) gets data for about the same amount we are paying at ATT (iphone data only)
coverage isn't a issue since i'm in the dc/metro area
EDIT: never was a fan of Sense UI; had installed Paul's sense rom on my N1 and had to chance to normal android launcher; to me, sense has too much going on and i don't need all of that stuff
This is nonsensical but I found it amusing...
"...the difference between Android people and iPhone people.... Android people rip the phone from the box...the box isn't an event...the phone is...."
This was an IM my GF just sent. She had watched an unboxing video of the iPhone last night, and then saw the "hands on" video (that had an unboxing) of the Droid X over on Android Community. I had sent her the link because she is going to tell her Aunt about it, she has her own business and is looking for a new phone. Me and the GF both have N1, I have started to convert her into a bit of a fangirl. She is a graphic design student at AI, so Mac (and by extension the iPhone) is everywhere. She likes to show off the N1 and all the things it can do to the iPhone people. I hope the N2 (if it ever gets made) blows the other guys (like the droid x) out of the water. I love having the devices that are "google's baby" getting features and updates first is always good.
Edit:
HAHA she also just made a comment... its the difference between prissy people, teens and yuppie types vs true 80s kids... Ah the 80s... when the art of the electronic/digital and putting buttons on everything first hit its stride.
The videos:
This

vs This (scroll down first video)
http://androidcommunity.com/droid-x-hands-on-first-impressions-video-20100623/
This makes me insanely happy. And I agree. Who gives a darn about the box? Show me some RAM and a snapdragon, and I'm ecstatic. I <3 my nexus. Idk where my box even is...
I think that's the great part about Android... if you want to be prissy about it and just use it the way it was purchased and never deviate from the way it was meant to be used when you got it (read: like the iphone) then that's fine, you can. BUT, you also have the option of doing what you want with it. Backgrounds, sounds, different interfaces... etc etc etc etc etc etc. It just goes on and on. If you WANT to do more, you can, but you don't have to. That's the beauty of Android.
All this aside, I do have to mention that the N1 box is quite sexy IMO.

But a reminder never hurts.
How can they say that iPhone and Evo are tied in Multimedia and Web Browsing...
More screen real estate, youtube HQ, Flash, HDMI, etc, etc...
CNET gives us the legitimacy we never had before, as most of us were Hero owners.
They were even generous with the iPhone IMO. The perfect score for multimedia, for instance, is not deserved on a closed system.

I can download free music without having to jailbreak on my evo hahaha
Look at this:
http://reviews.cnet.com/2722-6452_7-689.html
In that comparison, the same people slammed the EVO on call quality\general performance, giving it the same scores they gave the iPhone 4. In this case, they say the EVO's battery life is just as much of an issue as the iPhone4's antenna issue, as that is the reason they gave it low scores.
If they stayed consistent, the iPhone 4 would have won. I think they wanted the EVO to beat the iPhone 4. In my mind, it does. But I think CNET might be confused...

That review is written before the latest OTA, the prize fight is after. For a lot of people the OTA solved the battery issues. Me I was able to figure out which programs kept my evo awake before the OTA. The OTA just helped even more.
That other comparison was probably done before the radio updates and all of the various ota pushes that sprint had.

After having the Evo for a bit, I don't think I will ever be able to use anything with a screen less than 4 inches. I finally got a chance to check out the iPhone 4 the other day and it seemed TINY. I know the overall device is smaller, but I don't remember my 3G screen seeming that small. Same story with the Hero if you play around with one after using the Evo for a while.

Holy crap yes. I gave my old iPhone 3G to my mum, and had to load some driving directions in it yesterday. Thanks to the giant rubber case on it, it felt like I was holding a small brick that had a complimentary LCD on it that was amazingly small.
4.3" LCD is the new way to go. Ya got that, manufacturers? EVO-size is the future, not Aria-size!
Oh how I love sending these videos to iFanBoy friends. :]
I agree with the sentiments about screen size. I gave my mom my old Hero and had to help her get Google Navigation to work. I was sitting there thinking how did I ever use this?! It's so small I can't believe I actually used this thing to navigate in the car!
And after playing around with my cousin's iPhone 4, as sharp as it is, it's just too small (and you really cant see a difference in sharpness at normal viewing length anyway). And yes, the iPhone 4 screen actually is a little bit smaller than the 3GS.

Came from a Droid 1 to the Epic today. I liked my droid, but the verizon bill was the biggest ripoff on the face of earth. Lately I've been hearing good things about Sprint, and I also wanted the evo... after some reviewing today, I decided that Epic was the better choice for me because of keyboard (I sometimes use the keyboard, maybe not enough to justify tho) better performance, and better battery life. I was aware it didn't come with 2.2...
Well now that I'm playing around with this thing, I miss all the features of the 2.2! BT voice dial, JIT, flash, 2.2 specific apps... I miss all of them!
It's very upsetting to know that samsung will probably not release the 2.2 for these phones until 2.3 is almost released on the Nexus One and all =/
also, I hear everyone praising the AMOLED screen, but I see all these grainy dots on it, it's brigther, but looks more pixalated, it's hard to tell, it's easy to tell on white.
Has anyone done the switch to EVO or to Epic from the EVO? what are your thoughts? it's def snappier compared to my gf's evo running 2.2... and the screen size diff isn't that big

I had a evo. I had it oc to 1.11ghz and running cynagon 6 rc1. I switched to the epic and never looked back. My epic when stock is almost as good as my evo in the state it was. My epic is now oc to 1.2ghz and I'm running the ee rom. Its even close to my evo. Once we get cynagon or 2.2 the epic will blow the evo out the water.

Yeah, I have to root this thing still, I haven't done the adb thing, so I would need step by step instructions on that, down to where I download adb to my comp (no idea how it works)
That being said, I wasn't a huge fan of CM on my droid, but if that's the only thing we'll have with epic and 2.2, i'll gladly use it.

I have to be honest here. I think some people talk about Froyo like it is this amazing leap forward in technology and it is like a night and day difference from 2.1 out there.
I have an Epic 4G and love the thing! I had a chance to play with a friend's G2 last weekend and, when looking at the 2.2 froyo Android, all I could think of was "Really? Seriously? This is making people decide NOT to get an Epic 4G? Are you fricken kidding me?"
First off, Froyo should be out on the Epic within a month of this posting. Second, the things you are talking about are almost non-issues! You can't voice dial over blue tooth? Wow...I voice dial all the time by holding the phone for all of about 15 seconds to tell it "dial 1-800-dont-be-lame" and then drop it on the seat as it runs the call over BT. Flash...installed already and you don't need root to do it. JIT? Really? 2.2 specific apps? Like what?
Don't take this wrong, and it is NOT meant to be an insult (though it might sound like one a bit) but you almost sound like those zealots who argue that the book is ALWAYS better than the movie even if the movie kicks butt.
The Epic is an awesome movie...

How do u have flash? Skyfire is not real flash if that's what ur referring to. Also in cali u can get a ticket if u voice dial the way u mentioned above. 2.2 has many advantages over 2.1 no need to argue that 2.2 is not a big deal. That being said the epic will get it soon, and even without 2.2 it is a beast. However if the op is used to 2.2 apps and some of the feautures I understand his concern, no need to start calling the op nmes because his opinion of the phone does not agree with urs.

The difference between eclair and froyo are night and day. There is so much more you can do with froyo then you can with eclair and 3yr performance gain is well worth it. Once the epic gets froyo it will put the rest to shame. I had both the epic and evo on launch day. The epic out the box put the evo to shame. The only reason the evo is a tad bit better is cause of froyo.

Grainy dots? I'm going to assume u got this directly at sprint store and they put the crappy ass screen protector on it. Change that to realook screen protector and ur screen will look as it was intended to

Insurance doesn't cover small screen scratches. They are considered cosmetic. Also u have a deductible to pay too.

Guys, don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the phone and doubt I'll be going to the evo within my 30 days, but from what i've been reading the november date is for the european galaxy phones? (haven't done enough research on that yet, just the thread here about it)
that being said, unless you had a 2.2 and used it regularly, you wouldn't know I guess ExploreMN. one nice feature was the auto update and update all feature on the 2.2. the app2sd is a nice feature too. believe it or not, the V8 JIT browser is faster, you can run a sun spider test and see the dif in numbers if you want. If it comes out in a month, I could care less really. I might not even bother rooting then, since i'll have to wait for a rooted 2.2 etc etc...
as far as the grainy dots go, if you can compare it next to another phone like droid, evo, iphone (any other smart phone) and look at the white on the super amoled, you can see what I'm talking about. honestly my eyes are already getting used to it though. I dunno, it's hard to tell, but it's there if you look. colors are def more vibrant though, grainy dots or not... lol
I'm really just disappointed about the 2.2 issue, and I hope it does come out november like engadget said.
oh, also, the speaker volume (phone ring and notifications) seems really low on this thing, I made sure it was on high... anyone else have anything to say about that?
I have the black tie thing, so no deductable here either

First thing I did was compare the screen to my evo. I'll take the samoled any day. I never seen these dis you speak of. Maybe you got a bad phone. Take it back compare it to another epic then replace it.

That's true. For me is rather pay 5 bucks for a screen protecter

no it's not the phone... I looked at the att one few months ago and realized that, so it's def not the phone. I think i'm actually the only one that sees this, had to point it out to my gf and she barely saw it. maybe she was just agreeing with me lol...
looking side by side to the evo though, the colors are def more 'vibrant'

I hated using swype with thr protector. I like these feel of my finger sliding across the glass

Yea samoled gets tiny dots on all white screen. Ur not the only one who sees it. I personaly only notice it when I look super super su0per carefully. It doesn't bother me at all, but I understand it may be a prob for some ppl who notice it.

you gotta look pretty close to see it, but i have pretty good eyes, so they pop out alot easier.
oh, for the guy who said 2.2 is junk
sun spider on epic - 16758ms
droid 1.0ghz 2.2 - 8331ms
