Ok so in fixing my market I uninstalled voodoo so I could restore and do geeknik again. After uninstalling voodoo and flashing the geeknik kernel and deleting the voodoo folder I noticed if I reboot into recovery from my power menu it still goes into cwm red..any ideas? As far as right now I am back to voodoo with no market issues..but still would like know why that happened.

flash one of JT's new non-voodoo kernels to remove red CWM
Rgr. Just figured a non voodoo kernel at all would have done it. Thanks brother.

I am very new to rooting. I sucessfully rooted my Fascinate but when i go to boot to recovery threw ClockWorkMod in RomManager i get an error message saying failed to seek in /cache/update.zip. i am also a mac user. can anyone help?
are you able to go into clockwork mod recovery through the stock recovery? (turn off the phone. Wait a few seconds. Hold volume up and down. Hold power. Release all when the samsung logo comes up..wait..select apply sdcard/update.zip)
edit: also when does that error show up? After three phone reboots and tries to go into cwm recovery or while still in the graphical interface? have you actually flashed clockwork mod?

when i reboot it goes into clockworkmod and when i click the apply to sd card there is an error. im not sure if i flashed it i just downloaded rommanager
Ok so when you reboot it sounds like you are going into stock recovery. Go into rom manager and click flash clockwork mod recovery and select galaxy s fascinate. It will download the proper cwm and flash it to the phone. Once it is done it will tell you that it was successful. (hopefully lol) and test it by selecting reboot into recovery.

You actually have to flash CWM with Odin on a PC. Installing with ROM Manager won't do much without that
Rom manager has the option to flash cwm through its gui interface on the phone..

You need to do both parts for it to work properly from what I know.
Nvm you are right. I was remembering wrong on that one my bad
look at the sticky in android development that tells you to look here before posting a new thread. It will have a link explaining how to install cwm.

My samsung fascinate has VooDoo on it. I did not put it there, I am not comfortable with ADB shell and the commands that go with it. Its a D101 that HAS to run at 800Mhz with Voodoo (Not the 1.2 the specific voodoo is) at 1.2 nothing runs and constantly redraws the homescreen.
I tried the automatic uninstaller, and the red recovery stays to haunt. I've tried other kernels while disabling Voodoo.
My phone was running fine up until recently where it would have random reboots and have trouble booting back up.
I came across flashing back to stock with ODIN. the system file went over fine, and I even did the stock kernel and (PIT)
i Just flashed them all through ODIN.
The phone boots up fine to the main screen, where then I get the error message about a UID ? (Sounds dirty) it says to wipe data or my phone will have inconsistencies. Then gives me a button that says "feeling lucky"
Message as follows "UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partion or your device will be unstable" Only button to click is I'm feeling Lucky
everything force closes, red voodoo still shows up in recovery. What am I missing or doing wrong?
I bought this phone this way and like i said i know NOTHING about ADB or all those commands, etc.
Can somebody help me out? I'd even gladly send it to a trusted member for repair with a donation, of course.. until then I'm using my OLD bb curve

both should be able to get you back to stock through odin then you can restart what you did. personally i keep both handy since i already had to use them due to an error that cause the phone to freeze up completely at the samsung logo. hope that helps
make sure you use the pda option in odin and not the phone..aparantly using the phone option can really screw things up
I did another factory data reset, and my UID message vanished. Although, VooDoo is still in recovery even after flashing D101 through ODIN.
My phone gave me the notification of an update (DL09) It downloaded it, and when it went to install it - it booted right into the red VooDoo recovery.
I'm going to flash DL09 through ODIN now, but I'm thinking VooDoo isn't about to go anywhere.

so did you use the odin files and flash it via PDA in odin? if so, did that revert you to total stock? i believe those .md5 files contain the stock recovery.
EDIT:
do you know what version of voodoo you're using?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784
that guide should help you, if you're using voodoo 5 there is a guide there that specifcally says "if you're still getting the red voodoo menu flash this file then flash a nonvoodoo kernel." check that article out by ady if you havent already.
flash voodoo boot right into recovery. adb shell into the device and type
cat /voodoo/partition_tables/fascinate > /dev/block/mmcblk0
And then reflash everything with Odin.
Also one of adrynalyne's di01 packages doesnt flash recovery. So either flash my dj05 or go to adrynalyne's cwm odin thread and flash a regular update.zip cwm tar.

A proper, 100% full Odin tar will replace everything on the phone, including voodoo, and the partitions that it formatted as ext4 will now be RFS again. Since the full DJ05s and DL09s came out I use it as a first resort instead of a last resort. Flash the full tar, CWM, the kernel, then nandroid and I am good to go in about 15 minutes.
Just to throw my two cents' worth in here, red CWM is not synonymous with Voodoo. It's just the version of Clockworkmod recovery that is capable of working when the lag fix is enabled. It's normally installed with Voodoo kernels, but the Voodoo lagfix itself can be completely disabled, and red CWM will still work just fine. If you got the OTA notification for DL09, it sounds like you have a stock ROM, which means Voodoo is actually gone, so you just need to restore the recovery from red CWM back to stock so that the OTA patch will be able to install properly.

Presentation is everything, thanks for the info!
Hi, I'm a total beginner with Androids.
So I have a question about voodoo kernels.
If I have made a CWM backup before instaslling voodoo (everything stock DL09), can I simply restore that backup to go back to the stock kernel from voodoo kernel?
If not, what other steps must I take to revert back to stock?
Thanks!
Clockwork doesn't backup the kernel, only the system and your user data.
I'm not sure I've seen the stock DL09 kernel packaged separately as a Clockwork flashable zip or an Odin tar. Not saying that it's not out there, I just haven't seen it.
**BUT** if you want to flash any non-Voodoo kernel over a Voodoo one, you need to boot into the red Clockwork recovery, go into the Voodoo menu and select Disable Lag Fix. Then reboot your phone and let it convert back to RFS, which will happen automatically. After that, you're free to flash any kernel you like.
IIRC, since you did a nandroid backup in green cwm, you'll also have to restore in green. When you install a voodoo kernel, you get a custom red cwm. If you want to restore, you'll have to disable the lag fix first, and then enter green cwm by applying update.zip.
If anyone can correct me, that'd be nice.
EDIT: btw, try to post questions like these in the 'general' sub-forum next time. This sub-forum is for android development D:

I cant seem to install any ROMs or anything other than a apk with voodoo installed on eb01.
I either get error on line 3 or sig failure!!!
Why is this?
fully uninstall rom manager, reboot and red cwm should work.
to get to recovery use the shutdown menu's recovery option.
don't use rom manager with voodoo. they conflict. its 2 different builds of red cwm and they don't play nice.
rock on
Samsung Fascinate - EB01 Froyo. Running SuperClean 2.4 Voodoo
booted into red still get error.
hmm i had the same issue. i did those steps and it cleared it up for me.
after u did that did u apply the update.zip? try boot to red, apply update zip. u may have the broken update.zip still on there.
if it doesn't work with what u have go to the thread with the" fixed" cwm and downlaod the test zip and try applying that.
Samsung Fascinate - EB01/Froyo.
SuperClean 2.4 Voodoo
MTM iOS keyboard
Cyanogen Boot Animation
Warning: I know just enough to be dangerous
damn i was late to see adry update, i'm using 2.4 voodoo EB01 right now
how do i get 2.6 voodoo
do i have to :
- go to my red clockwork
- wipe all
- disable lag fix
- flash 2.6 voodoo rom from here
- then flash Voodoo eb16 kernel w/ dummy tether module from here
- enable lag
- reboot
That's it ??
do i have the right way?? please tell me
coz adrynalyne didn't write guide for his rom update
eb01 = modem, right??
eb16 = ?? is it modem too ??
TIA
If you are going from voodoo to voodoo, you won't need to disable lagfix. I just wiped Dalvik Cache and flashed 2.6, then flashed the new kernel when it came out.
You don't need to flash any kernels, SuperClean includes a kernel (either a voodoo or non-voodoo kernel). You're also still using the EB01 modem (EB16 isn't actually for Verizon Fascinate, but parts of it are being used for it).
