[Q] HELP RomManger boot to recovery error - Fascinate General

I am very new to rooting. I sucessfully rooted my Fascinate but when i go to boot to recovery threw ClockWorkMod in RomManager i get an error message saying failed to seek in /cache/update.zip. i am also a mac user. can anyone help?

are you able to go into clockwork mod recovery through the stock recovery? (turn off the phone. Wait a few seconds. Hold volume up and down. Hold power. Release all when the samsung logo comes up..wait..select apply sdcard/update.zip)
edit: also when does that error show up? After three phone reboots and tries to go into cwm recovery or while still in the graphical interface? have you actually flashed clockwork mod?

when i reboot it goes into clockworkmod and when i click the apply to sd card there is an error. im not sure if i flashed it i just downloaded rommanager

Ok so when you reboot it sounds like you are going into stock recovery. Go into rom manager and click flash clockwork mod recovery and select galaxy s fascinate. It will download the proper cwm and flash it to the phone. Once it is done it will tell you that it was successful. (hopefully lol) and test it by selecting reboot into recovery.

You actually have to flash CWM with Odin on a PC. Installing with ROM Manager won't do much without that

Rom manager has the option to flash cwm through its gui interface on the phone..

You need to do both parts for it to work properly from what I know.

Nvm you are right. I was remembering wrong on that one my bad
look at the sticky in android development that tells you to look here before posting a new thread. It will have a link explaining how to install cwm.

[Q][Q]Phone not using clockwork recovery[Q][Q]

i can only boot into clockwork mod recovery using the standard 3 button method. When i use Rom manager or Root manager to go into recovery it takes me into stock android recovery, does anyone know why?
also my epic will not let me flash noobln's rom, it says the file is messed up despite downloading several time?? however I was able to flash the boss rom.
Sounds like you lost your root.
Mine does the same thing concerning using rom manager to boot into recovery. Have to manually boot into recovery. Root is fine though.

It looks like you used noobnl one click to install the CWM recovery to blm8- if you also want rom manager support you need a kernel that supports it on bml7- you can flash that via the CWM- if you search you will find a stock kernel that has CWM support along with several other roms

I don't have it flashed but the latest mixup lists rom manager support- what happens when you try to boot into recovery via rom manager- do you get an "unsigned error"?

Yep i get the unsigned error but using the manual method works. Im reading its because i used the 1 click clockwork method. I used noobnls newest final clockwork.
When i did it koushs way it would work with rom manager.

I might not be understanding your post correctly but I have both methods working - I can manually boot into CWM via three button and also get to CWM via root manager- I used noobnls final and then used it to flash koushs kernel

Sorry. I am running stock rom. Mixup kernal on top of it with rom manager support. Then have noobnls clockwork flashed on top of mixup kernel.
Last week i went back to stock. I rooted then installed the hacked clockwork then installed koushs kernel to get permanent clockwork and it worked from rom manager as well as the three button way. I then flashed mixup over koushs kernel and that's when it quit working from rom manager.
I am wondering if i can reflash koushs kernel and then mixup because before when i did it mixup didn't support clockwork. I didn't flash koushs way on my new epic.
So basically i would have done this.
Noobnls one click with rom manager and fixed su> koushs kernel> mixup kernel????

I dont understand but Ill try
Mixup Supports clockwork and rom manager so using market download it and install clockwork recovery.
If you ever have to boot into either STOCK recovery or the THREE FINGER clockwork RECOVERY METHOD.
Navigate to INSTALL UPDATE.ZIP select and you will now be in the proper clockwork recovery
REMEMBER ALWAYS BACKUP

yeah Same happens to me using Switch pro widget. This new version 1.9 has the ability to reboot to recovery.. everytime I rebooted into recovery, it brought me to stock recovery. Seems like the clock work kept failing to delete the stock recovery, but if I press and hold volume down, on/off and camera it boots into clockwork recovery.

yeah apparently with the epic, they are still working out the kinks, i got Rom manager functioning correctly, but Root manager still boots into stock recovery. im guessing the devs of these apps will eventually fix this

From my limited understanding the epic has two recovery locations- one (bml8) is accessed through the 3 button push. The other (bml7) is accessed through adb reboot recovery or rom manager. Use noobnl CWM installer to install to bml8. To use rom manager (to place CWM on bml7) your kernel must support it (i.e. you have to flash to something else other than the stock kernel). hope that makes sense!
In some senses this is nice- if your rom gets messed up you can still access the recovery via the 3 button push
Also before you use rom manager for the first time make sure there is no "update.zip" on the root of your sdcard

Voodoo

Ok so in fixing my market I uninstalled voodoo so I could restore and do geeknik again. After uninstalling voodoo and flashing the geeknik kernel and deleting the voodoo folder I noticed if I reboot into recovery from my power menu it still goes into cwm red..any ideas? As far as right now I am back to voodoo with no market issues..but still would like know why that happened.

flash one of JT's new non-voodoo kernels to remove red CWM
Rgr. Just figured a non voodoo kernel at all would have done it. Thanks brother.

Get voodoo cwm from rom manager

Ok so is there an update zip for red cwm so we can boot into it from rom manager
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Actually all you have to do is reboot into recovery via CWM and when you are sent to the green CWM go to advanced in the menu and select reboot recovery. This will take you to Red CWM.
No so if I flash something through rom manager I can use the newer cwm
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
red cwm currently only comes with the latest voodoo kernels. So the only way to get it is to flash a voodoo5 kernel with green cwm and then your recovery will be red cwm. no need with that fake flash crap koush left us with.

[Q] red cwm and rom manager

Does anyone know if there is a way to force rom manager to bypass its check for cwm. I have red cwm installed, and don't wanna flash green cwm, I just want to use rom manager to pull down themes and such, and extract or manually flash what ( want, but it wont let me past the flash cwm or cancel pop-up....
Well, I still use green cwm, so Im not sure, but if Rom manager still lets you download stuff...
you can still manually install things you download in Rom manager.
They get stored in /sdcard/clockworkmod/download -
So you can download them, cancel the cwm install, then boot into recovery and install manually.
That's just it, it wont let me use it, unless I relent to let it install, green cwm. I'm on super clean dL09 with adrynalyne's 1230 voodoo kernel, which, if I understand is what red cwm was built for, voodoo I mean...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
When you reboot into green CWM from Rom Manager, go to Advanced, and select Reboot to recovery, and it will reboot the phone into the red CWM. Either that, or you can power off the phone and old Power + Volume Up + Volume Down to get into red CWM, or use ADB or Terminal Emulator to enter the "reboot recovery" command, which will also have the same effect. Once in red CWM, just choose to install from zip file, and browse to the download folder that Bawb3 pointed you to to find the ROM zips to install.
If you haven't flashed CWM with Odin as well as ROM Manager then it won't actually install... Flashing with ROM Manager only puts the update.zip on your SD card, and flashing with Odin actually puts the recovery kernel on the phone.
Okay, gotcha.....thats what I needed to know.....
Thanks guys, much appreciated....
I odined the red cwm package that adrynalyne posted to go along with the voodoo 1230 kernel. I just wanted to make sure I didn't blast it out of the phone with rom manager. I can get to the red recovery just fine, as y'all mentioned with volume up/down and power, so.....three finger salute....
I'm coming from a Moto Cliq XT , which seemed a bit simpler to pop into recovery and flash stuff using an amon RA recovery than this one.... still learning the ropes..
Thanks again...

Help - Clockworkmod Recovery

I'm trying to flash a custom rom made from romkitchen however have hit a wall. Any help pointing out a solution or where i may have gone wrong would be most appreciated. I'll outline all the steps i took, not sure if they are related to the issue or not.
I started of with froyo dtjp5 with no 3 button and 3e recovery. I started by using odin to flash the canadian bootloader fix which worked perfectly and gave me 3 button download mode. I then flashed chainfire cf-root 1.3 kernell which also worked perfectly and i know have working 2e recovery mode. I then donwloaded clockwork rom manager form the app market, and flashed the clockworkmod recover 2.5.1.2. It appeared to be successful. However when i attempt to enter recovery mode, either through the application, or through 3 button mode it, simply boots into normal 2e recovery mode rather than clockwork mod. I have tried applying the flash again but it still did not work.Untill i can boot into clockworkmod recovery i cant apply my romkitchen zip file so im kind of stuck. I must be missing something but cant figure it out, so once again any held would be much appreciated. Thanks
flash for example voodoo or speedmod kernel with odin/heimdall or kernel flasher(haven't used it often so i am not sure about kernel flasher)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Make sure CWM is set as update.zip on your sdcard - ROM Manager should actually do this for you - then in 2e recovery select flash update.zip ... the very first time it should just reboot your device (so go into recovery again), the second time it should start CWM.
Not sure why CWM is built that way.
Thanks very much
Ok so I am having a problem with cwm that i hope someone can help me with. I just flashed the latest speedmod kernel using the sgs kernel flasher app. Now when i try to reboot into recovery from cwm so that i can access the tweaks menu, the cwm options dont appear. It says i am in android sytem recovery(3e). where my only real option besides wiping the phone is to apply sdcard:update.zip, which does not work even though cwm is set as update.zip on my sd card. Any help to this noob would be appreciated.

to apply CWM from 3e recovery you need it on your sd card. it has to be named 'update.zip'
the other way to do this, is download odin version, boot into download mode, and flash.
overall process takes less than 5 mins.
Check if you really have it -> settings -> about phone.
And try to flash it using odin, that worked flawlesly for me.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
The kernel definately flashed correctly. I am not sure why the update.zip isnt workingfro cwm (the signature verification keeps failing), but i am going to try odin and see what happens. I've never used it before, but i am downloading it now.
