Dear Customer,
Thank you for your interesting on our product. Did you update JPU firmware through KIES? I ask JPU firmware to our developers, but answer is JPU firmware is not public release firmware in Samsung Electronics for GT-I9000. (not available through Kies) If new firmware update for GT-I9000 is announced in outside, simultaneously we''ll publish open source code on OSRC wesite. (As I know, new firmware is planning to release in Dec.)
Thank you! Sincerely yours,
Seems they missed out their name at the end and also their English leaves much to be desired, but it's a response after all.

I suppose the new firmware in December will be JPU based?
2.3? Too good to be true surely.

What december, they did not say...

December 2012....lol
You should reply telling them that you need the sources to fix their idiotic issues for free so they can put better ROMs in their devices. So what if is not public? Let the people have it, if they want to void their warranty, is their problem.

Certainly not 2.3 yet ;-)
But official 2.2.1 is likely..
Yep.. has to be 2.2.1
I got a similar answer ! Seems to be JPU+bugfixes soon
I would not count on 2.3, as the timeframe is much too short and there was not beta release yet.
Also interesting is that the opensourceparts of JPM are identical to JPO. That´s why we did not get a JPO Package from samsung.
Who cares? We'll have a pure android version of gingerbread running on our devices in a couple of weeks anyways.. I put much faith into our beloved devs here on XDA.

Yes, I would guess it's a JPU-based 2.2.1 firmware
Did anyone seriously expect getting the sourcecodes before official
release?
Yeah but i proper source Form galaxy s would be even better for many projects like voodoo and stuff...nexus s source will boost cm Support but for the perfect aosp wer need samsung sources

How long are they allowed to get the source out with GPL?
And I keep hitting thanks instead of reply lol, oh well you can have the thanks.
Would JPU be a minor update through Kies or would it have to go through carriers and be delayed forever?
That is something you need to ask Samsung for.but even if it is minor there will be the usual delay for carrier phones

Hope thats why half regions still didnt get their update to froyo (including me) hopefully we might get 2.2.1 at least then..
I hope you will !
Otherwise you can hack your kies reg to fake your device id...

All,
I just got a prompt from Kies. There is an official upgrade! It offers JM1 firmware.
What firmware have you got now?
Stock - JF3
That's it? That's their fix is it? A beta firmware called JM1, where quite a lot of people have already updated to JM2 and JM5?
It does not solve a thing. The underlying problems still remain. JMX firmware merely dampens things down and is a bit more intelligent in drawing a path. It doesn't solve GPS stability issues, lock or anything else.
If this is the direction Samsung are going, then I think this sends a signal that the issue is not fixable and this is just a fudge.
Roll on October for a HTC Desire HD.
Hi All
I have upgraded to the new firmware but now i am unable to download some apps from the market place
I had myplayer on my phone before the upgrade and now when i search for it on the market its not there
Does anyone know why i cant see it my mate can see myplayer on his htc desire phone.
Ha, I bloody knew it would be one we've already seen! Unless someone can confirm this actually fixes anything I'm not letting it anywhere near my phone.
It makes sense that it's a previous leak, the official releases are always going to lag behind the leaks we get.
Presumably they thought JM1 was enough of an update and stable enough for release to justify making it official.
There'll be more, just got to wait
But this was supposed to be "We have a fix guys, yeah, we'll release it in Beta" kind of attitude.
It's not fix at all, just a flaming fudge.
No lag-fix at all? Very, very disappointed!
No one said it was a fix, just an official firmware update. Fixes will probably come out in betas first. Thanks OP for the info.

2. Do I have to instal kies to update it?

I dont give a damn for any Kies notification as long as its not about an official Froyo release. Not that we all wouldnt have it by that time on our SGS already...

Use the *#1234# code on your phonecall-keyboard to see what firmware ur running on.

Is there any way for us to know if this JM1 is exactly the same as the "unofficial" one?
It would be interesting to see if anyone could compare this official release to the beta release to see if any final changes have been made

Saw this article from Phandroid earlier. Seems interesting that T-Mobile would push this update *yes, probably to shut us up* but then sit on some other updates *possibly KA7?*
Here's the read.
Samsung Vibrant Froyo Update Available Only as an Optional Kies Update, Mandatory OTA Coming Later?
t looks like there is, in fact, a catch to the Samsung Vibrant update to Android 2.2 through T-Mobile. While an update is indeed being made available to users in the form of a build version KA6, word from inside T-Mobile is suggesting that this is an optional update coming via the Samsung Kies software, perhaps merely to quiet detractors and negative press buzz. If T-Mobile’s own statements aren’t enough, a build with the version number KA7 leaking out earlier today also suggests that a future, mandatory update to Froyo will be coming over-the-air at a later date.
This is all speculation for now, as we haven’t heard word from any Vibrant users that they have received an update notification on their handset. We will keep our ears to the ground as the day unfolds and the situation develops.

I just posted that thought in another thread.
I bet that's exactly what happened.
There was a lot of heat going on. ka6 is "good enough" so they posted that. Anyone complaining would know how to use kies, update and stop complaining. They'll update the masses later on with a final build via ota.
A lot of people on here including me skippes the kies KA6 and went to 7. For me its a good build but maybe another one will follow. It seems some people are very disappointed by the update. And then we have another leak the day of the "official" makes the "we'll update later" seem real.

Hmm, this article definitely is giving me food for thought.
I think I'm gonna wait until the real update pops up.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well, they'll have to give us 2.2.1 soon, right? Or people will set T-Mobile HQ on fire.
So I'm pretty sure that KA6 is just a "to shut us up" release.
^^ Pretty much yes.
Who know's if we will see 2.2.1. They're HQ might still start on fire if people's phones don't work after their "official Froyo" release.. lol.
Actually. Posted this in the thread that phandroid used for their speculation. they by using kies got the update out to people who wanted it. But the lack of source code suggest it is not the upgrade samsung and tmobile wanted to push as samsung usually lets go of the source code at the same time as the upgrade which makes this a "Here is your upgrade now be quiet" type of upgrade.

My thoughts exactly. The source they eventually release will probably be KA7 or later. The good thing about the release is that it puts them on the clock to release source.
yeah, but maybe a lot of people will still be happy for the ka6. It will be a huge impact to them.(people who don't flash custom roms)

Okay so if you release a update (froyo) you MUST release a source code? I didn't know that, I though they choose to do that, lol I learn something new everyday on here.
Gingerbread in 4 weeks? Doubt it, froyo isn't even working right yet, if anything Gingerbread will be on the Vibrant 4g..

Since Android is free code, you have to release the source of everything non-proprietary that you've done to it.

From the recent i9000 release, or just builds that people build with their best ability?
From the recent leak. Team edt has one on their site made a couple days ago
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Its good edt is working on gingerbread but last time I tried it, the rom was no where near polished. Can a determined nerd convince himself that all the random rainbow flash, and broken video and 3D support is worth it just to have the lastest? Of course, I did just that. But truth to be told, its not a dd yet. Bi Winning on the other hand is what a polished rom should feel like, and I know its an edt release.
Can you post a link please
just use bi-winningv2
I know there are about 12,000 threads on Gingerbread, but I have yet to see anyone point out a link or a website or anything where we can go to confirm when Gingerbread has been OFFICIALLY released for the Epic 4G. The last I heard on these forums, it was last slated for the last week of July. It's now the last day of July, but I don't see any posts about an official release and how/where to get it. And I keep seeing the word "STOCK" in the mod rom forum, which is confusing...have they officially released Gingerbread for the Epic 4G yet? If not, is there a new date for it's release? Is there a website or specific thread that I can routinely check that will announce when it's out? I just saw a thread showing a leaked pic about the EOL for the Epic 4G in October of this year. Having just switched from the Tilt 2 on AT&T to the Epic 4G on Sprint 2 months ago, I'm not fond of seeing that my new phone will be out of date in another 2 months.
Can anyone clear up some of this confusion?
Thanks.
~Z

No official release yet. Just leaks.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That's just when they are going to stop manufacturing new ones. There's plenty of development left to come. Right now it looks like a possible September release for the official. These leaks come out and its almost as if we are Samsung's beta testers used to search out the glitches. The EG22 leak is actually pretty good. If you are big on GPS use, you may want to go with the EE03 modem. As far as an official release date, as soon as its known, you will se a thread here with a link to the source of the info almost immediately. Try out a few of the GB ROMs here. There are some very nice ones. If you want a Froyo ROM that has everything working, try SRF 1.2 or Urban Regeneration.

But also, according to Tweets from Samfirmware, they have information of two builds to be released Mid and/or late August at least from what I've gathered, so we've leaks but we're close to a possible Official Release.
A while back didn't someone say that Samsung guaranteed us two more updates? I couldn't even attempt to find the thread it was mentioned in, can't remember any title it would belong to.

Yup, I was told that by someone on G-Talk as well. I was told 2 more leaks by the end of August. That's why I said maybe September. I don't mind. Let them fix that modem. Let the GPS get fixed at least as good as Froyo and the stock browser and such. The leaks are good enough to keep people happy for now. I am patient. I still use Froyo as my daily.

Heck, Amazon Kindle has an 2.x.x android and is grand hit in US for instance or just like Firefox 3.x is continuing to get updates as 3.x.x still...
But I don't think it will get official Ice Cream Sandwich but sure 4.0 will be out for it, unofficially...
