All,
I just got a prompt from Kies. There is an official upgrade! It offers JM1 firmware.
What firmware have you got now?
Stock - JF3
That's it? That's their fix is it? A beta firmware called JM1, where quite a lot of people have already updated to JM2 and JM5?
It does not solve a thing. The underlying problems still remain. JMX firmware merely dampens things down and is a bit more intelligent in drawing a path. It doesn't solve GPS stability issues, lock or anything else.
If this is the direction Samsung are going, then I think this sends a signal that the issue is not fixable and this is just a fudge.
Roll on October for a HTC Desire HD.
Hi All
I have upgraded to the new firmware but now i am unable to download some apps from the market place
I had myplayer on my phone before the upgrade and now when i search for it on the market its not there
Does anyone know why i cant see it my mate can see myplayer on his htc desire phone.
Ha, I bloody knew it would be one we've already seen! Unless someone can confirm this actually fixes anything I'm not letting it anywhere near my phone.
It makes sense that it's a previous leak, the official releases are always going to lag behind the leaks we get.
Presumably they thought JM1 was enough of an update and stable enough for release to justify making it official.
There'll be more, just got to wait
But this was supposed to be "We have a fix guys, yeah, we'll release it in Beta" kind of attitude.
It's not fix at all, just a flaming fudge.
No lag-fix at all? Very, very disappointed!
No one said it was a fix, just an official firmware update. Fixes will probably come out in betas first. Thanks OP for the info.

What waste the hours on 2. 1 where they should spend it on 2.2.?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
hey at least they came through with their hold up to ship new inventory using the new ROM
1. how do I figure out what firmware I am on? ( not in phone status)
2. Do I have to instal kies to update it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I dont give a damn for any Kies notification as long as its not about an official Froyo release. Not that we all wouldnt have it by that time on our SGS already...

Use the *#1234# code on your phonecall-keyboard to see what firmware ur running on.
Kies isnt the only way to upgrade ur firmware version, its just the official way. I've used ODIN3.

I am on JF1...is that older than JF3?

Is there any way for us to know if this JM1 is exactly the same as the "unofficial" one?
It would be interesting to see if anyone could compare this official release to the beta release to see if any final changes have been made

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your interesting on our product. Did you update JPU firmware through KIES? I ask JPU firmware to our developers, but answer is JPU firmware is not public release firmware in Samsung Electronics for GT-I9000. (not available through Kies) If new firmware update for GT-I9000 is announced in outside, simultaneously we''ll publish open source code on OSRC wesite. (As I know, new firmware is planning to release in Dec.)
Thank you! Sincerely yours,
Seems they missed out their name at the end and also their English leaves much to be desired, but it's a response after all.

I suppose the new firmware in December will be JPU based?
2.3? Too good to be true surely.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
What december, they did not say...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
December 2012....lol
You should reply telling them that you need the sources to fix their idiotic issues for free so they can put better ROMs in their devices. So what if is not public? Let the people have it, if they want to void their warranty, is their problem.

Certainly not 2.3 yet ;-)
But official 2.2.1 is likely..
Yep.. has to be 2.2.1
I got a similar answer ! Seems to be JPU+bugfixes soon
I would not count on 2.3, as the timeframe is much too short and there was not beta release yet.
Also interesting is that the opensourceparts of JPM are identical to JPO. That´s why we did not get a JPO Package from samsung.
Who cares? We'll have a pure android version of gingerbread running on our devices in a couple of weeks anyways.. I put much faith into our beloved devs here on XDA.

Yes, I would guess it's a JPU-based 2.2.1 firmware
Did anyone seriously expect getting the sourcecodes before official
release?
Yeah but i proper source Form galaxy s would be even better for many projects like voodoo and stuff...nexus s source will boost cm Support but for the perfect aosp wer need samsung sources

How long are they allowed to get the source out with GPL?
And I keep hitting thanks instead of reply lol, oh well you can have the thanks.
Would JPU be a minor update through Kies or would it have to go through carriers and be delayed forever?
That is something you need to ask Samsung for.but even if it is minor there will be the usual delay for carrier phones

Hope thats why half regions still didnt get their update to froyo (including me) hopefully we might get 2.2.1 at least then..
I hope you will !

about time
Has anyone checked this at all? I'm guessing its probably ed01?
The pdf states it is in fact froyo with ed01.. at least it's here though, regardless of that fact!
Yep. According to BGR delivery starts tomorrow.
I'll have to check my wife's phone tonight/tomorrow to see what's up. However, the last update was posted on VZW site a couple of days before it was actual OTA on her phone.
anyone care to speculate on the steps required to receive the ota update if you're already running a leaked froyo modem/kernel/rom?
I settled into the stock de-binged ec01 modem & rom with imnuts' 100mv uv kernel... The rom allows me to check for ota updates - and as of now says no updates are available...
It'll be interesting to see if ota will try to update my "ec01" to an official ED01. I doubt it, and I doubt it would be successful if it tried...

Wondering the same thing. I have EB01 debloated (by urs truly) with EC01 radio. I'm able to run the status check but no update as of yet. gonna be interesting to see if they let me update to ED01. If past holds true I'll have to go back to EA28 then update that way....

According to the Post on Android central this will be a manual update and not OTA and that it will be ED01, which is the same as the leaked EC01.

I would advise most on here to hold off on the ota update. They are touting a "feature" of bing voice search, meaning deeper bing integration. Probably one of the things that held this update up so long. I'll be waiting for a stripped down rom. It's just a shame that the source is so bad that development on our phones is not going to be as robust as it should for all its power.

I would bet that ec01 is the stripped down rom & that the radio is the same ec01 leaked last week. Remember Adrynalyne said the build prop was altered to change the date for leak protection. They got it & already fixed it for us. You can't beat XDA!

Isn't there a Google agreement that if the phone meets the minimum requirements for a Update then it gets it
Plus Gingerbread has not been the best rom for most phones
Froyo was the best as it had alot of development Gingerbread still needs work to fix the FC problems, They can't leave there phones like this as it will spill over to the other devices
Well, Samsung is busy on ICS, so probably no more GB firmwares.

Surely the people to ask are Samsung Technical Support, as the members of XDA do not normally have a priority information feed from Samsung.
Just checked right now and there's new firmware for country code XTC! Never had an update since this device got released! Excited and updating now. Will post results!

NICE! I was actually on Lightning 6.1 for the past few days then got bored and decided to go back to stock since I just got a USB Jig to reset the counter. I just plugged it into Kies and the update dropped! Talk about timing. I really do prefer official updates.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
yes it's 2.3.3 and it took me freakin 8 times retry to complete. it stalled arbitrarily between 30% - 80% for no obvious reason and no error code except: fail
well, an official update is always welcome anyway. and i still kinda like it "stock" for the moment
Yes, I was also really really hoping for a 2.3.4 update as I'm still trying to stick to stock.
After updating, I was really hoping that the Android OS bug in the battery use would have definitely been addressed seeing as it's been such a big pain in the @$$ so surely Samy would have fixed that first but nope, I still have the Android OS showing as 80 - 90% battery usage!! so I still barely get a day out of it if I'm lucky.
and yes, I had the same issues to while updating - I'm located in India and using a 10 mbps connection and it still struggled 5-6 times before it could complete the download. I read somewhere it is due to Samsung's crappy servers - not sure how far thats true but looking at the results from people from most parts it looks like the same.
Anyone notice any differences at all? Or does this update just change the number to make us feel happier, officially? Why is there never a changelog or perhaps I am just unaware of it.
It downloaded fine for me without interruption.
They really don't give a change log. Sammy thinks that firmware update improvements should be a surprise. Lol.

Im more interested in JB, come on guys, are we going to get it?????
I really hope so, personally i dont like ics and im still running LA4 GB, since day 1 of pretty much flashing my phone, it works for mw, ics doesnt.

You do not need the ROM released in your regions to install. Most of them are fine, unless you want languages specific to your region.
