On my wife's Aria, the external speaker stopped working. No sound what so ever. Verified settings, tried speakerphone, videos, music, etc., no sound. Not even static or crackling noise.
The Aria had been running the latest version of Cyanogen for the past 2 months with no issues.
Below are the steps I did.
1. Backed up current CM ROM via ROM Manager
2. Restored original AT&T ROM - Still no speaker
3. Restored CM ROM from step 1 - Still no speaker
4. Restored original AT&T ROM - Still no speaker
5. Booted into bootloader - clear storage, unrooting phone - Still no speaker
6. Call AT&T, went through warranty support, replacement Aria shipped out
7. Restored CM ROM from step 1 again - SPEAKER IS NOW WORKING
I'm not sure what's going on here, however I'm taking the new/refurb phone they are sending us since this could be software or hardware.
Anyone else seen anything like this?
The speaker stopped working again this morning...

Hello,
I'm new to this forum, but I'm hoping you guys can help me out.
I installed aurora 4.1 and the 4.1 update 2 months ago, and since then everything has been running perfectly until yesterday....
For some reason the phone speaker ceased to work. Now I can only hear conversations on loud speaker. The phone did not fall or got smashed for some reason, it just happened suddenly!
I did not install any new apps, nor did any new stuff with the phone.
I already tried wiping data, cache partition and dalvik, to install aurora again, but the installation was aborted. Also tried downgrading to official 2.3.5 but the installation also aborts....
I have to say that apart from the speaker everything keeps working properly.
Help me please!!!!
I have exactly the same problem, but I was using Aurora 3.1 upd 5. Loud speaker works for calls and alarms, but not for music and video's and de small speaker doesnt do anything anymore. It's just like having a headset in.
When you go to volume settings. The upper toggle doesnt work, while the other 2 do produce sound.
try n get the connections checked. may be its loose or something ..
found soliuton from google play need install HF Button Widget , then place widget on screen/desktop and use widget to turn on/off headset mode, in official 4.0.3 always see headset icon with KitKat never see headset icon but with widget working normaly if play music/video on loud_external_speaker then headphones_headset muted

Hey guys!
Straight to the point: I (clean) reflashed my S5+ with CM13 after it became apparent this is the only way to solve the "google play services stopped working"-bug (following CM12 to CM13 transition). After that, everything worked perfectly fine - including the speakers.
But then I noticed that suddenly the (rear) speakers stopped working. I was able to get them working again with a reboot. However, this only worked once.
Since then I could not get them to work again. What I have tried so far:
use the app "soundabout" to force (rear) speaker output - not working
clean reflash CM13 - not working
clean reflash CM13 without Gapps or anything - not working
clean reflash CM13 with Luzifer Kernel - not working
I am still convined that this is a software problem - why?
the speakers stopped working but I could get them to work again at least once (see above)
other people have reported similar problems and had their speakers replaced without success (e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/help/external-speaker-stopped-t2930139)
So here is my question for you guys:
Is there a way to test for faulty hardware speakers with additional methods? E.g. with an ADB command to prompt a test sound output....?
I still have warranty, but due to the reports I do not want to struggle with a Knox01-phone when arguing for a replacement.
Thanks!
I apologize if this ends up being long winded, I want to lay out all the details.
So I recently purchased (what I had believed to be) second hand Nexus 6P. It is in perfect physical condition however, no signs of ever being used. Battery is great, performance is great, speakers are great, camera amazing, and screen is perfect. However two odd things started to occur which I believe stems from the same issue. When hanging up phone calls the hanging up process would hang for a long while and either eventually hang up or the system would soft reboot. After reboot notifications are still set to priority only "call management", although it is easy to adjust and bring it out of that. However no audio/mic works at all (Play Music and YouTube give an error that they cannot play). No audio from speaker, or from headphone jack. I could however connect to a Bluetooth speaker and audio plays just fine. I then went to do a proper shutdown of the phone (using the power button menu), and when I manually booted it back up all audio works find again. I plug in headphones and start listening to music on Play Music. After a while however, playback fails and all the audio on the phone is once again dead...queue soft reboot. And repeat the whole process again. If I'm listening to headphones and I do anything to activate the microphone, audio crashes and go through the whole process again.
So I decided to make sure it was all up to date all the way to OTA 7.1.2. Once I did and I tested, the same issues above occurred over time. So then I thought maybe if I used Nexus Root Toolkit and did a full manual wipe and reinstall of 7.1.2 factory image from Google. Phone issue initially went away, but audio playback through headphones persisted and eventually the phone issue manifested itself again.
Today I decided that I do a full wipe again and try and install Pure Nexus 7.1.2, non rooted with BeanGapps and vender image (following the entire process here to a T.) I have not been able to replicate phone issues, however the audio playback and headphones issues are easily repeatable.
TL;DR - So this leaves me with a few things;
1. I can use the phone by never connecting it to external audio source perfectly fine, no problems at all.
2. Phones calls may sometimes get stuck at hanging up, and the result is a crashed audio system.
3. The only way to temporarily solve this issues is to shutdown via holding down lock button and Power-off using the menu that appears. And then manually starting the phone back up again.
So I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue. The fact that it persists between full wipes and reinstall of different roms makes me think it to be hardware. Although the temporarily fix of proper shutdown and manually start back up makes me think the OS/Kernal is somehow "clearing a buffer" or something in it's proper shutdown process. Which without doing leads to the audio system being completely down. Therefore on soft/dirty reboots the audio system is still down.
As an added bonus my sim card was a Micro SIM, before I opted to take the scissors to it instead of buying a nano sim. It works (so I thought), it just doesn't fit in the tray quite right. I tested recently with a proper nano sim from a different phone, and everything worked perfect. Then I swapped my franken sim back in and...it worked perfectly fine.
I did search for this issues in previous posts but all I could find was this. The issue (s)he describes is exactly the same issue as me, but his/her solution does not seemed to have worked. I am inclined to try doing a full wipe again and flashing completely stock older version though.
Any help, suggestions, etc are greatly appreciated. And thanks to the developers of Pure Nexus, it seems to be very polished and I'd love to use it daily driver.
Since you are having the issue after a clean install of stock and a clean install of Pure Nexus I don't see how it could be anything but a hardware issue. You could try to flash a custom kernel if you really think the kernel is an issue but I doubt that it will do much good. You could also try a clean flash of a different rom (I recommend Dirty Unicorns which is very smooth and stable) but again I doubt that it will do much good since you seem to have a hardware issue. You might have bad memory which is getting cleared when you reboot the phone.
I fear you may be correct. When you talk about bad memory, I don't want to misconstrud what your trying to say. Would there be a buffer for the DAC for example that is bad? Or do you mean the RAM or the flash memory itself?
It is very disappointing. This phone is perfect otherwise. I'd like another 6P, but I am concerned I then get one with battery issues.
A while ago I installed cynogenmod 13 (I believe thats what it was) , tried to take a video and the video would only record half the time (would act like it was taking the video but it was actually a static image with the worst sounding audio) and the audio was horrendous. Wife next to me was on stock rom, focus wasnt as good but audio came thru perfect. I went back to stock rom and everything was back to normal.
Months later I am at the range and I tried to take a slow motion video, video came thru with audio.
I called someone right after and no one could hear me. Tried to use voice to text and voice recorder no one could hear me.
I figured being that close to rifles that i blew the microphone. Well i just used headphones with built in mics for a while to I got a new phone.
Well I went on a trip and used the axon 7 for pics and i took a video. I was showing some one the video when i noticed It was playing audio.
I figured out the audio only works when recording video.
Unlocked bootloader, was on stock. Things i tried was using drakon full stock rom and boot loader flashing everything back to full stock, upgrading to custom roms, just upgraded to new modem and bootloader for 7.1.1 . current stock rom rooted with super su and twrp recovery. a2017U.
I tried everything i read about disabling ok google. reseting to defualt. Any Ideas?
Hi,
I recently updated my phone to Nougat 7.0 and have been having some problems.
1. When I am listening to music using Google Play Music and I lock or unlock my phone, the music sometimes skips for a moment. Not a big deal, but it's an annoyance.
2. This is the bigger problem - my loudspeaker sometimes doesn't work. I first noticed it yesterday because system sounds weren't playing, and also when I tried to play music through the loudspeaker, it was very quiet and tinny and barely audible. It seemed to fix itself once I toggled silent mode a few times. However, this morning, none of my alarms rang, it also didn't make any noise when calls / texts came in. Luckily the vibration managed to wake me up!
I'm pretty sure that it is a software problem as it started happening since upgrading to Nougat, and also I haven't dropped it or had it in water recently. I have not rooted my phone or anything, it is all stock. I've only had this phone for around 6 months. Wish I hadn't updated to Nougat now as Marshmallow was working perfectly! I have since rebooted the phone and it seems to be working fine for now...
Has anyone else had this problem? I have tried searching on xda and on Google and can't find anything. Perhaps I need to send this back for replacement?
First mistake: updated to nougat.
Second mistake: not rooted.
Try to revert back to mm and root to install some audio mods.
My S7 had the same problems with the loudspeaker sometimes it work for some hours without any problems but then the problem comes back. Samsung-Hotline told me the problem is new they didn't hear anything about that!
Factory-Reset
SIM-/SD-Card removed
notthing works for me.
I hope they will start the rollout of 7.1.2 without this problem
Odd. Are you guys on sd variants of the phone? I'm on exynos and had no issues with nougat.
