Hi fellas,
I'm fairly new to those forums.. and have done a search but nothing comes up (both google and forum) does anyone know which, if any, after-market touch pens or stylus will work with our Xperia X10's?
Seems, I occasionally seem to have issues trying to press links on various web-pages and it's cause some frustration!! Not to mention unnecessary page reloads.
.. I don't have any issues with typing however but I'm sure this thread would benefit those who do, right?
1. So what are our options?
2. Is there anything?
3. Anyone tried any of them??
4. How they perform?
Sony Ericsson Stylus available on eBay..
Personally, I've tried using my stylus from my UMPC (Fujitsu), and X10 does not respond to it.
But, maybe the tip is too small?
I thought about stylus, but have decided against, I think finger is fine.
Re: touching wrong link, try zooming the page first...
I can get my X11 to occasinally work with a standard cotton wool bud... doens't work when there's grease on the display however!
The x10 is a capacitive screen not a resistive one, hence why the stylus doesn't work.

i think this will be fine for X10

You can use an iphone stylus, anyone will work. Bestbuy has them, pretty much every electronic superstore.
funny though, an ipod shuffle works as a stylus
One of these will probably work...

Thanks Yetep, on the safe side, I think I'll go invade the local vodafone shop / carphone whorehouse... I'm pretty sure they won't mind. Perhaps they'll have something useful.
its okay. I can only appreciate the fact that a picture with sausages doesn't help when you need a hand. because the screen works on conductive technology, ie needs to touch something that conducts like your finger or metal, things like plastics, or sausages, won't work.
This may sound kinda stupid lol
So I was wondering if I could change my nexus one amoled screen on to my desire z?
I can't decide on which one to keep so I just thought about this.
Will it be compatible or it just won't fit in general?

Nothing is impossible
Well.. I suppose it could be done, you'd have to make sure they're the same dimensions etc. First so maybe buy a spare desire z display perhaps? Just to check before you open the Z.
And maybe someone could confirm wether you'd need to port some drivers, which should be easy, kind of
Best of luck

You do that and tell me how it goes, OK?
Wouldn't it be easier to use a Desire screen and Desire drivers?
i was wondering because I've tried it with a blackberry
i had a blackberry 9700 and the screen broke so i swapped it with my old 8900 i had
and it worked even without changing any drivers, though the 8900 had a smaller screen lol
i cant swap it with desire because i dont have one and the Desires in Canada have SLCD
Was wondering the same thing screens are the same size both 3.7 is this possible?? Anyone have a amoled desire they wanna give me for the experiment??
Anyone have any ideas
This is probably not possible with an extensive amount of work.
Is that really worth it?
Well, I suppose it could be possible if the drivers are in the ROM, and both dislpays have the exact same dimensions and of course the same connector! you probably won't want to solder a new connector to your Z's mainboard
Screens are the same size only thing not know is the connector. I may buy one and experiment I can probably sell it if it turns out it doesnt work

gn1 ***does not have amoled***!!!!
The original nexus 1 did. They refreshed it later with slcd
So did anyone try it? And I had been wondering this for a while now. And Samsung has a phone with a 3.7 super amoled, if I could find a replacement for that I would try it in my G2.
No one tried this?

Just take it apart and see for yourself..
Don't know why people have this obsession with AMOLED. Compared a friends SGS with the Z and it's not a big deal. The viewing angle on the Z is pretty damn good too.
1st HTC Touch2, the digitizer failed completely.
2nd Google Nexus one, working digitizer but horribly unresponsive.
...and now my practically new, 2 month old HTC G2/Vision's lower part of the screen/digitizer has completely failed. I mean just above the capacitive button, about 1/2" of the screen has failed and is unresponsive, the rest of the screen works completely fine. So this means I can't tap on the phone/app drawer/browser icons unless the phone is in landscape mode.
They make such beautiful phones but such crappy quality.
Hope the warranty it otherwise I'm throwing this brick thru their headquarter's front window.

I think it's you, because all the HTC Phones I had (Magic, Legend, Nexus, G2) none of theme ever had any problems. And one of the points HTC has above all other manufacturers is quality.

Sounds like you have been incredibly unlucky. I've owned about 8 or 9 HTC devices. Currently use 3 (G2, HD2 & HD7) and haven't had any issues with any of them. I do remember people having issues with the digitizer on the Blackstone (HD)
Your warranty should cover you though
Do you live in a dry area where static electricity can build up easily? I ask because once I killed a phone digitizer by zapping it....
So far I have had an iPod Touch=Digitilzer fail Completely, HTC HD2=Screen is Black, HTC HD7= Camera stopped working

same here i even used a g1 w a shattered digitizer for like 4 months and my g2 has had 0 issues so far
my g1 did work flawless even with a cracked screen, best phone HTC has made to date. I have dropped that thing at least a hundred times and it just worked.
I have yet to drop the G2 (probably cuz its so heavy) but I did not expect it to have this problem.
I guess there are bad batches in all, but the thing that pisses me off, is that I called HTC and they are willing to replace the digitizer, but I have to pay for shipping! WTF?!?!
your carrier should do this for free....
unless you bought it outright. then either suck it up or live with it. or fix it yourself.
life sucks.. then you die.
another HTC customer who has yet to have a problem (that I didn't cause myself) with their products...
perhaps there is some environmental factor that is causing this problem continually for you.. why haven't you tried another brand of phone if you are unhappy with HTC? (not picking on you, just curious - it would help identify if it's an HTC problem or something else)

Not to sound like steve jobs, but you're holding it wrong. Literally.
It is a CAPACITIVE screen, that means that you need to complete an electric circuit between the metal ring around the outside of the screen and the screen itself. It also helps if your fingers aren't too DRY.
Try to touch the metal ring firmly with the same hand you are using to touch the screen.
I think you just treat your phones badly

i have a pretty new g2 and for some reason my screen is unresponsive sometimes.. i mean for like 2 minutes it wont let me use the screen at all for touch, i can still use the track ball..
then it comes back and i can use the screen again, sometimes it bugs out and clicks stuff on its own.. i have tried different roms and no help yet..
so maybe it can be a phone problem, anyone ever find a solution?

OK, Tell me what you want to know and I'll tell you.
I guess that most of the people are interested in screen quality
I have to tell you that I was terrified, when I first turned in on. It looked like the one that I saw i Sony Center. Totaly washed out colors. No blacks etc. Than I changed wallpaper to a picure with lots of black, and Tada!! Beautiful black and contrast!!!!! Sony just changed colors of the whole UI, so there is no black, only gray . Apps and wallpapers look great!
were there any memory card (micro sd ) inside the phone ??? 2,4,8,16,32??

Yes, I have seen it myself in real life and can confirm this. The screen looks much better then people expect. Plus that everybody now has their "expectations" set to low, they will be even more impressed. I mean come on, would you really think Sony would put a TERRIBLE display in their flagship? They want to capture the market, you are not going to do that with a terrible screen.
The screen is SHARP, BIG, BEAUTIFUL. Indeed, Sony has chosen a lot of gray instead of black (bottom nav bar + status bar + background in settings). That's not a washed out screen, that's just the colour Sony chose. I can understand people are confused by this, I was as well. But when I saw the screen in real life, I saw that's it's a good screen. Yes, the viewing angles are not as good as the S-LCD3/HD AMOLED screens, but it's not THAT bad as some pictures made you think.
I think that the XZ offers so much that those "not perfect" viewing angles can go to hell

+1 xda Mark. I saw the device at CES and didn't believe the guy when he said it was TN. Best looking TN I've ever seen. Looked at some photos online both on my buddys s3 and the Z, and the difference was NOT what you see in pictures.
Before anyone leaves this device because of the screen, take a look IRL first.

I think that the pre applied ones shouldn't be removed, and are quite thick and difficult to remove. So if the screen protectors in the box have normal thickness my guess is that it is to protect the screen protector from getting scratched. A scratch protector for a scatter protector
can you check whether i can use 5 pin MHL cable or 11 pin MHL cable ! would be interesting to know !!!!!!

The phone comes with anti shatter film its not a screen protector and you are advised to put a standard screen protector on top of this pre applied film.
I had a S2 and a S3 and now i was really thinking of buying the S4 (9500 or 9505, i didn't decide that too) but now i'm really worried about how many people are disapointed with the phone... and also with how it's weak and easily breakable the screen (glass and amoled) can be... some people are saying that it broke by itself while charging or on the front pocket...
so, my question to you guys is: would you buy it again? and why?
please, help the worried person here
Yes, despite Samsung's 'nonsense' (the crap with sources, recent f*****y with locking down bootloader) with firmware. As long as you run custom firmware, it's a great device. And if you're stupid enough to use a $800+ electronic device which has your entire life on it without a protective case, you probably deserve for it to break on you.
Does that answer your question ?
Well i think that just stock rom is enough and you have a great device in your hands. It is not weak and there is always some bad phones that comes out of the factory but i believe that samsung will fix those bad devices and i recommended I-9505 with snapdragon 600 or the new 800 snapdragon s4.

I will, as i did with all my phones, use a protective case, but as i said, there was cases where the AMOLED broke with it on the front pocket, without any kind of impact. I fount those cases here and some others foruns in Brazil...
I always carry my phone in the Front jeans pocket and nothing happened to mine. I guess if you have Bad luck there is a Chance of breaking the screen. Could happen with any other phone too.

I don't have a case and it's fine. Would get this device again. I leave my nexus 4, HTC one and the others at home lately. I just like this device, something about it just ticks all the boxes.
Every phone had a thread on screens cracking etc. The aluminum in the HTC scratched to bits on me and it looks horrible. The nexus back glass scratched .... My s4 is in mint condition.
