Freezing and crushing fixed - HD2 General

Hello everybody!
I am new on HTC products and I got by first my HTC HD2, wich had the same freezing and turning off problems that usually a lot of HD2's users have.
But I managed to fix my problem and I joined XDA dev. to share this with other people who might find this useful.
PS. I don't know if some of this steps are not involved on the solution but I'll put them all to make sure the same process I did for fixing it happens.
First I updated the ROM version, I would recomendto use only official roms, either the HTC HD2 normal version, or the HTC HD2 T-Mobile version, wich they both are free on their web pages. PLEASE DO NOT MIX THE ROMS, DON'T INSTALL THE T-MOBILE VERSION ON THE OTHER HD2 TYPE OR THE HD2 NORMAL VERSION ROM ON THE T-MOBILE ONE.
since it might overheat and freeze during the actualization, select "not charge the phone when it's on" or something like that on the configs. for not to overheat the phone, plus, I putted a small CPU fan near the phone to make sure it doesn't overheat during the process (with the back cover off).
Then, after the actualization, turn the phone off... let it cool off for 10 mins, or 5 if you are using a fan to help the cooling....
when it's on, go to the screen config, disable the auto-brightness, and put it manually in 20% wich seems good enough ilumination for the screen and doesn't overheat's it.
then, only if you don't need it, disable the GPS servise, wich forces the overheating too...
Once done this, install the program CleanRam, wich is free and only have to pass the .cab file to the phone and run it from there. Then, look for the program on the start menu, enter the CleanRam config Program, tap menu, tap backup/restore, tap select settings, tap htc hd 2. done.
Now go to the Start, tap settings, tap menu, all settings, tap today, tap items, then dissable HTC Sense and enable Windows Default. Then Ok.
Now you have the default Windows appearance.
Let your phone cool off... when it's cold again. Run the CleanRam. Now you will have a period of time (1 day to be sure) that you will do only basic stuff with your phone (take pics, no vid!, call, send sms, listen to music (windows media player only!) and other basic stuff. REMEMBER! everytime you close an aplication, go to the task manager and end the program from there.
WARNING: Make sure to run the CleanRam at least each 5 or 10 mins when using the phone. And make sure to turn the screen off evertime end changin to the song u wanted or things like that.
After 24 to 30 hours of this "Pasive User Mode" wich I call xD.... go to configs again, menu, all settings, today, enable HTC Sense again. Ok.
Now you have the HTC Sense Appearance again. Wait 20 secs.... Run CleanRam. Now wait for your phone to cool off......
Now turn it off...... wait 3 mins. Turn it on, run CleanRam.....
Done! It's working fine, and it would not freeze or turn off... it will heat a little but as usual.
Always remember to keep on ending programs with task manager when not using them and running CleanRam when you the phone has worked too much lately.... Hope it works for you... it did for me... and my HTC HD2 is working as better than ever!

Nice to read your happy with the phone, I love mine
I use Indie Roms and without any of the steps above , other than closing unused apps my phone is stable 2>3 days between charges on light to medium use and almost never freezes - stock roms are ok, but some of the cooked roms are great
thanks for your thoughts

Diamond2 TouchFlo always returning to Home screen

Hi,
Has anyone noticed that the Diamond2 always returns to the home screen after comming out of lock mode or standby?
For example, i could be listening to music, after 5 mins of me not using the screen, the phone would lock. On entering the PIN, the TouchFlo retuns to the home screen, instead of my music app. Same goes for any other app on the TouchFlo. My previous Touch Pro came back to the last opened app on TouchFlo.
Not a huge problem but would be good if there was a tweak to stop this behaviour.

I dont think that the people here see it as a problem like you and myself I started a thread weeks ago

1300 views but still no solution, its prob too hard to do Dammm HTC

Ps if you find a solution please let me know
I also experienced a problem with switching screens when turning the device back on. Uninstalling TouchLockPro solved the problem for me...
@Brempie
I took your comment about uninstalling TouchLockPro. I didnt have that program installed but i took the PIN lock off my phone temporarily, and hey presto, phone works as it should!
So now we know what causes the problem, hopefully HTC will have a fix for it....eventually.
I'll live with the bug for the moment, i prefer a phone which is PIN locked.
Cheers,
M
I have never had this happen to me. I also installed throttle lock and it always goes back to where it was when I unlock. I just uninstalled throttle lock and did a soft reset to test and make sure it never reverted back to the home screen. Nothing.
No matter what program I am in it wakes up to that same spot. I don't know what the registry hack for this is but there probably is one.
Could you possibly try this? Install ThrotleLock v0.6 and then see if it will work. If it wakes back up to the same screen and not TF3D uninstall it and see if it goes back to TF3D or not.
*warming up this thread*
So, has anyone yet found a solution for this?
It's annoying for me as i have set the device to go to standby after 2 minutes of inactivity when on battery. When i listen to music with the musicplayer in foreground, or when i write an email and someone interrupts me, i put the device in standby by myself or it does automatically after the defined time.
In 95-99%, when i turn back on the device, it has returned back to the touchflo home screen. Very rarely, and it could not yet find any system, the device wakes up exactly where i left it. This is, what it should do everytime but sadly it doesn't.
I'm using the Stock-ROM, activated PIN-Lock of my SIM, having a (WinMobile default) device Lock (4-digits) set to activate after 24 hours (this way it does not activate itself during normal usage, unless i long-press the end-call-button), using 2ndToday with SPB Diary.
It gets more annoying for me every day, because especially during working time i frequently turn the device on and off. Reading RSS-news, turning the device off for an incoming call, turning the device on just to get welcomed by the home-screen instead of staying on the news i previously read isn't that comfortable
Having to open the taskmanager and reactivating the program means at least two more clicks everytime i use the device... so - any solution?
edit: I think i tracked down the source of the problem, watch in this thread:

G-Alarm disables TouchFlo?

Every time I install G-Alarm on my phone, TouchFlo seems to get disabled.
It is still enabled in the settings menu, but the home screen is just a HTC wallpaper, and when I press the windows key the start menu is opened.
I have tried rebooting multiple times, but nothing seems to help...
Only removing the application has worked so far for me
Any ideas?
EDIT: I'm having the same problem with G-Profile!
It seems that the programs just disables the TF service from launching/running...
Haven't experienced that problem myself, using G-Alarm v1.5.1 here.
Hmm.. Strange.
I have heard more people say the are using some of the "G-programs" on the Touch Pro 2. So it must be something in the ROM I guess.
I am using an unbranded Dutch version. But I have no clue on how to fix this...
Ok. I have figured out that if I remove the PIN entry screen from the start up sequence (so no PIN has to be entered anymore) G-Profiles works. I haven't tried the others yet, but I'm sure they'll work as well.
The thing is... I would like my phone to have a bit of protection by the PIN code
I don't use G-alarm on my Dutch TP2. But I have this issue with not starting TouchFlo3D also. On HTC advise I resetted the device. Then it worked for abou 4 hours and after that it wouldn't start anymore. The screen staus black with the fancy HTC in the sceen... but no "starting touchflo".
Als for that reason I instaled SPB mobile shell latest... but this will not update new SMS or Mails in the main screen... more people on SPBCLUB have this issue... I think it has something to do with the TP2 and not with SPB... more people with same problems?
Ahh...so that's what causing it.. I have a G-Alarm too but didn't realize it's affecting the interface not loading up
Several soft reset and it'll load up. Kinda annoying until the developer fixes it (and we have to pay for the new version )
I don't think this problem is just with G-applications, I am having the same problem withouth any g-apps installed. After a few reboots it usually works again, but I think this is a more genereal TP2 issue.

I've asked on his forum, and he said it probably was a TouchFLO bug...
Thread here: http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=721&start=0
(I'm BiT on there...)
I've had the exact same issue but found out that with me it wasn't linked to G-Alarm but to the 'Background4AllTabs' plugin,
I've hard reset tons of times, tried several alternate installs, but once I start changing TF3D options like th background or clocks, it slows down tremendously in screen rotation and it often won't start after reboot...
hmm i dont know if you still have these problems but a few days ago i figured out a solution^^
The problem is the entry. I've got an htc touch pro 2.
Soo to get TF3D starting try fallowing thing:
-Go to "Settings-->Connections" and turn ON the flightmode (this will disconnect all)
-Then restart your phone... wait a few seconds and TADAAA TF3D SHOULD start.
-Go to "Settings-->Connections" turn OFF the flightmode
-Enter your PIN
-Now your phone should connect to your provider.
So if this work you have to do this every time you restart your phone... so turn on flightmode --> restart--> turn off flightmode
I hope this way is not only working on my phone
btw sorry about my english xD
GreeZ $me
Flightmode works for me
Indeed it works now. But I have another interesting thing.
I was used of waiting nicely looking at the PIN input screen. Wait, lets say,. 20 seconds; cancel the pin input and see the Touchflow coming up in 100% of the cases. So I could live with the problem.
Now I installed Navigon who puts a file in the autorun folder. And now Touchflow never starts up any more with the exception of the Flightmode trick.
Is navigon guilty?
i never used G-Alarm but i have the same problem.
so i've tried checking on/off Today/Item/TF3D, tried Flight Mode, and it still won't work. i'm talking like only 30-50% of the time it does work. and I never had PIN1 enabled!
i'm no programmer but it is conflicting with apps we install because TF3D works perfectly when the phone was fresh or hard-resetted. btw i'm using 6.1 Stock T-mobile

Issues with WM 6.5 Official Build

Hello Friends,
I think by now all here might have updated TD2 with WM 6.5.
Many with cooked and many with Official, like me.
I think if we can post all issues with WM 6.5 Official ROM here and we can suggest HTC for any fixes/patches.
Or we/developer here can have fix for that .
Thanks.
Hello
One issue I've come across is when you have the messaging application running in the background and you receive a new SMS the keyboard pops up on the home screen (in Windows deafult/Titanium).
Man.
Hi.
I have noticed sum issues when trying to install some apps. when i choose the destination of where i want to install the app, it just keeps the waiting cursor on the screen and doesnt install.
this is sometimes though. so not sure if it is actually an issue with 6.5 rom

no I have not seen that,
you may just need SDKcerts or NET CF 3.5 to get those apps installed
BTW which apps ???
I've had some issues. Offical 6.5 German ROM
* When using Live Messenger I've had a few hags and I had to restart the phone.
* Without any app running task manager showed 98% used memory... only 2% free and nothing open??? the phone got slooww
* Facebook: When I was with wm6.1 official rom with a fix cab I could use Facebook within contacts, I was able to sync picture, birthday and showed me last update from contact. Now with wm6.5 and facebook that comes it only sync picture. I want birthday back and be able to read last update.
Batery Charge Issue
I think the indicator light does not change to Green even if the batery is fully charged.
Also the information tab does not change the last fully charged value.
PS:
I have seen the "Update for HTC Diamond2 Power LED Notification" update/fix has been release by HTC (http://www.htc.com/in/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=249&cat=0&dl_id=600) much before the 6.5 release and looks like this is NOT fixed in 6.5.
Thanks.
I've noticed the option to choose LED-blink-time on new messages is no longer available, it's now on 5 minutes and greyed out. What the h*ll was the point of that?! I've talked to HTC, they said "yes, it's grayed out", but had no good reason for it. Seems totally stupid thing to do. Anyone knows how to un-grey the option? A little registry-tweak maybe?

Hi All, Just re-verified and found this is NOT an Issue.
Actually the charging bar shows 100% but still the light was not turned green but after some time it did changed to gree. So NO Issue here.
The only thing is charging does takes lots of time .
spb backup?
Has anyone managed to install spb backup on the official 6.5 rom? I've tried this, and despite claims from spb that the latest version is compatible with 6.5, I always get "install was unsuccessful". Any ideas anyone?
Google maps
Also, google maps does not seem to auto-rotate the screen, although many other apps do. Does anyone know how to control which apps are allowed to rotate or not?
i am using the WWE version, and when i activate the wifi and leave the device for 5 minuts and it goes to sleep, when i press on the power buttom the wifi icon disappear and the wifi switch is still on, and wifi connection is dropped.
Does anybody has the same issue. or it is only me.
How do I make album close instead of minimize?
same problem here with the WiFi.
I really want to like this 6.5 build but there are too many problems.
1)I cannot turn off the LED notification for new emails, even if all options are off. Beyond that all the LED notification options for the phone, text, voicemail are greyed out, why disallow me from choosing?!
2) Memory leakage is horrible, will continue to rise and rise until phone grinds, and this within a day.
3) In a week it has never picked up 'My location'. Google Maps manages this to within 10 metres within 120 seconds without GPS!
4) Settings from within the Windows take you to the very limited settings tab which then needs an extra press to get to all options. Plain bloody stupid.
5) I have found some screens which for some reason wont touch scroll, normally within the MS apps such as myphone after it has synched. Have to use the scrollbar. Feels like the 90's all over again!
HTC have managed to build a ROM for the HD2 in the same time with Winmo 6.5 and yet this ROM is bloody useless, they have dropped the ball badly and i really like HTC.

There's a setting for "Turn om WIFI auto" and one something like "Turn off WIFI when inactive for .."
I did these settings the first day, through some sort of wizard, but can't find it back! I guess in your Comm-manager, under "WiFi" it says something like "Turn on Automaticly"?
It's a very nice option, because now WiFi is prioritized over 3G when you try to go online, but where the h*ll did those settings go?!

Yes this happened to me too, and at first I couldn't work out what was going on. Now however I think it is a deliberate feature, probably as a battery saving measure. It all seems to work in a sensible manner: when I come out of standby the WiFi is off, but as soon as I use an app that needs WiFi it automatically reconnects. Also when I am away from my home network, it uses 3G automatically. So I actually like the way it works now.
I have a problem with playing music with touchflo or w.e it is now. I play a song and when it's finished it doesn't play the next song (whether in a playlist or not!) It is set to "Repeat all" but still doesn't play all the songs so i have to get the phone out at every song -.- is this just me or is it a bug?
RE: Issues with WM 6.5 Official Build Reply to Thread
Dear All,
I am also not satisfied with the stock wm6.5 build, I’m using the Dutch-Rom
I have issues with following Items,
1) When my phone shows a pop-up message it “bleeps” eventhough it has been set not to sound while it notificates. Frustrates me every morning as my phone has a custom made get-up-very-smoothly alarm tone and than it starts with a harsh BLEEP !!
2) The powerdrain is horrible, I NEED to charge battery each day, with wm6.1 the device was charged after approx 3 days!
3) Recently experienced something totally new: while I work my D2 always is connected to my pc trough USB and normally charging, I just have been noted by WM6.5 that “the charging power was not enough to charge the device and if I want to charge properly I needed to close down programs…” (excact notification I forgot but in rough words this was the message). Guess what!! The only thing running is Manilla ???
4) My location is not accurate enough
5) Where is the Freakin battery indicator, why do I need to go in to the notification screen to see my battery status, I NEED TO SEE THIS AT ANYTIME HTC!!! :s
These are my main frustrations with the wm6.5 build and certainly hope HTC can fix this
Best regards
Kid Kreole

activsync always in the background!

Hi,
The last couple of days I have noticed the back bottom of my phone getting quite hot and the battery running down very quickly, Ive had a play around and the ony thing that is constant is activsync running in the background, I never use activsync so I dont know why its running but its really starting to piss me off now.
My battery is down to 79% and ive only made 1 quick call and sent 2 msg's in the last 4 hours!
Can I disable activsync completely? Like I said I never use it, if I want to put something on the SD card I put it on the card and I use MyPhone to back my stuff up!
thanks for any help!
for me it´s the same pproblem....any idea ?
There was a thread about manilla consuming more power than the original Win6.5 interface. I thought the same and I think the presence of Activesync always open in the background in Manilla is one of the reasons for this.
When I close Manilla and use 'Titanium' power consumption is less.
When I use Manilla it does not matter when I open the taskmanager but Activesync is always running and therefore trying to sync and using power.
Anybody can state this or, hopefully, has a solution.
PS. The old trick, fooling with a non excisting server, does not work.
If you open the activesync app (start, tools, activesync) then you can set the schedule options to manual. I've had a play this morning, and I can't remember what you have to do to enable the schedule menu item, so I can't help you any more I'm afraid. This bugged me on my HD before my HD2, and my Diamond before that, but I've never had the problem on my HD2. That's how I've fixed it previously anyway.
Incidentally, I doubt it actually uses much power. It's just a service that sits there and waits for activesync events. I don't think it actually does anything until it's needed.
Good luck!

[Q] TM HTC HD2 screen keeps coming on.. causing battery to drain within 12hrs

Hi there,
Recently purchased TM Leo and I am on stock ROM 2.13531.1 (90963) WWE.. for last 2 days the cell backlight keeps coming on indicating that some program is running in the background.. causing the battery to drain within 12hrs with little use. Tried flwg to solve the issue:
1] thinkin it cud be due to additionally loaded programs.. tried hard reset and reverted to stock rom but the problem persists. I'd ESET AV, Skype for WM, GPSed, pocket RAR & cleanRAM installed.
Even d cleanRAM Level-2 purge & hard reset has not solved d issue. task manager does not show any programs running.
2] to my understanding some additional process running in d background is causing d issue.. but i dont possess sound knowledge to kill d processes. FYG flwg processes r available to kill thru cleanRAM:
Below list: process name (my understanding.. pls correct, if wrong)
NK (understand its a kernel - cannot be killed)
BTTrayCE (general - shud not cause d issue)
AudioManager_en (not sure)
voicecmd (dont use - can be killed)
AlbumSearcher (dont use - can be killed)
poutlook (required)
SyncManager (general - shud not cause d issue)
imforwarding (dont use - can be killed)
EsetOAMobile (required)
manila (required)
siHome (not sure)
siwatcher (not sure)
tmail (not sure)
BTW.. m in India n using unlocked (code fm T-Mo) Leo on Vodafone india.
Appreciate ur response & help.. its frustrating to charge twice a day..

TM-HD2 unlocked (VF-India)

Many events can trigger the backlight, e.g. sms, email, reminders, alarms, etc. And the settings are all in different places.
Instead of trying to find out what is turning it on, why don't you just change your power settings, e.g. when on battery, dim or standby after 1 minute of no activity. That way, even if it turns on, it will turn off after the inactivity period. You can change the power settings at: Settings|Sound & Display|Backlight

My backlight settings r at 30s/1min. Understand that.. but it happens way too often.. say avg every 3 mins. besides initially this phenomenon wasn't happening earlier n battery wud last easy for a day with similar use.
thanks thou.
When you did a hard reset and without installing any programs, does this problem occur? If not, then install one program and a time and observe if it happens.
If your HD2 is turning on every 3 minutes then something is definitely wrong.
i use netripper's proximity screen off to disable backlight when not in use. look for it here in xda. the backlight turns on for so many reasons we're not aware of and when one of the hard keys is pressed inadvertently, e.g. even inside the bag or pocket. this app turns it off, thus saving battery, using the proximity screen. i always put my hd2 upside down on the table for example and let this app take care of turning off the screen for me.

Did you find a fix for this? My tmo hd2 is doing the same thing, screen keeps waking up every 30 sec to a min killing my battery. Im running kumar 2.9. tried reflashing, hard reset, tast 29, flashed new radio, nothing seems to slove this.
This sounds like the "car kit issue" again. Basically the contacts within the USB port corrode and it shorts out 2 pins that are meant to be shorted out with a resistor when the car kit is plugged in, this signals the HD2 to stay turned on, and to usually launch the navipanel, speaker phone enabled by default in calls.
Unfortunately there is no known fix for this you will have to do a warranty swap though t-mobile. I had to swap mine for this very reason about a month and a half ago.
I now keep tape over my USB port to keep debris and moisture out. i am on the lookout for a rubber plug to fit in there. I charge my batteries using a standalone charger, physically swaping out the battery in the phone every morning. Added benefit of the phone getting a reboot in the morning. It also comes in handy because I now have 3 batteries and can bring spares along when i know ill be away from a power source awhile and be using the phone alot.
There is a whole thread about this issue in the normal HD2 forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619859
Thanks for the info. I looked at mine, it looked ok little dirt nothing big. Cleaned it out, but still did it. So I put it back to bone stock, even took off the hspl. That seemed to do the trick, it not waking up by itself any more. The rom I updated must of messed up the hspl some how.
