Besides the obvious (goood tracking), I stopped numerous times and for long periods with no jumping around. JI6 did this but it was very minor, with JK6 it's gone. Then, you can see where I got out of my car and into Fry's.. right up to the entrance.
why didnt you go east on silverado?
Haha... I was wondering the same thing.
I love that store... Wait. How come it still jumped all over...? Ooohh, I see my house!!!

Is it just me, or have the expectations for the phone's GPS to be "functioning" gotten out of hand?

No, not just you. Yes, they have IMO. JFD was awful, JI6 was better and JK6 improves on that. There will always be someone to disagree, though.

I have the Vibrant. My friend has the Incredible. I compared the two.
While on paper the Vibrant tops the Incredible in terms of hardware (aside from camera related areas), the Incredible seems to be a bit more snappy. Now I am not saying the Vibrant is "slow", but rather there is noticeable ~.5-1 sec delay when opening messaging, for example, where as the Incredible has none, at all. (I have applied Ryan's lagfix and hit 2.2k on Quadrant... wish Quadrant results would reflect actual performance.)
Seeing as how Vibrant has the better hardware, my guess is it must be Sense UI vs TouchWiz thing. I love TouchWiz (don't flame me) but if it is the one causing my otherwise great phone to slow down... I will nuke the thing.
What do you guys think?
I thought I saw that the incredible was starting to see froyo. Has he updated? That would make a huge difference. If you are seeing lash on the Samsung specific apps. I would say it is likely touchwiz vs. sense thing.

We need a later firmware revision. The one we have isn't very good. Later versions reduce or eliminate the type of lag you're talking about.
Besides that, I don't know what you're trying to prove here
My guess would be it's Touchwiz that causes this but there could also be other factors involved. I have a friend with an incredible and he replaced his messaging with handcent because the lag he was getting from opening the messaging app itself as well as the threads.

Have you applied the "fix" yet? I don't see any delays or lag when I open apps.
if you apply the "lag fix" i'm almost certain you won't be able to notice any slow downs in terms of opening applications.
from the limited knowledge I have of the whole "samsung vibrant lag" it's caused by the way the vibrant processes I/O read/write? it's very inefficient as compared to other phones. the fix is a work around and it literally makes it amazingly "snappy" and fast.
I'm choosing to hold off on the fix for now, people reporting issues and having to ODIN flash back to stock is turning me off.
*edit - totally missed the part that said you applied the lag fix. reading comprehension ftl

Not trying to prove anything. I am half venting my superphone is not-so-super and half asking for advice on this issue (indirectly).

The problem is it isn't just on messaging; its pretty much everywhere (except browsing... browsing is blazing fast.)
I have a friend with an incredible its a few months old but I found the opposite to be true. Using her phone made me appreciate the speed of the vibrant, I almost felt like I was back using a G1. my phone is about as stock as you can get aside from running launcher pro instead of the regular home app.
2.2 will only make this thing faster. I use touchwiz to show off my phone. It is a lil choppy but never slow. I think our only competitor when we get 2.2 will be the x but for some reason im not worried.

Me neither. Had it since release. No lag and about 120 apps installed...
Just need 2.2 and I'm golden....
Gps even works good here... lol
After spending more time with TouchWiz's launcher, I can safely say it is the root of a lot lag. Sucks because I really like it.

Yupe .. same here.
I tested again with JP6 now and my results are very disappointing! Before with Eclair it was all much better!
JP6: almost impossible to get a fix and always inaccurate
JF3, JM5: fix in 15 seconds and very accurate!
JM7 was slightly worse then JM5 and JF3 in my experiences.
How the hell is that possible? I thought / read that JP6 / JPM is much better with GPS :S
FYI: We say "Worst"
And the title is biaised, you "tell" that the GPS is worst, and ask if we agree... you can only assume that the result will tend in that dirrection.
On the topic, well, since none of those release are "official", I can't realy judge on speculations and pre-release!
But then, I don't have massive issue running JH2... On a 6km run I got about 200m of "distortion", so it's only about 3% margin of error.

And now a double infinitive..
I hate bad GranDma
Mine is the worstest.
I just switched from a Vibrant to the G2X today. For those of you thinking of switching over you should know that it's buggier than a Tijuana whore house! It's so bad in fact that an entire thread has been started so people can list the myriad problems with it. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053737
Hell, mine is perfect, no issues..
Remember all the vibrant threads on issues when it was first released? Gps, buttons, signal, cheap etc...
The phone is a beast just like the vibrant despite all the issues it was said to have....
Most of the lil bugs it has is software.. I love my g2x I recommend it to anyone..
I like mine too and have no doubt that the problems will be addressed, either by LG or by dev's making custom ROM's. A RC for Cyanogenmod should be out in a couple of weeks. However if you read some of the posts on that link you'll see that the issues are a little more serious than crappy GPS or slow updates.
no problems here. battery life sucked at first but a factory reset + deleting battery stats fixed that.
seems like besides the LCD bleeding most users are having a good experience with their phones.
Yup I looked at the 2gx but recognized alot of QC problems and just figured I ll wait for S2........... nice to know my gut was right .....
The only outstanding thing about the G2x seems to be its speed, I checked it out at a Tmo store and yeah it's fast but only because of its dual core CPU and stock-like Froyo. I am running Vibrant with Master's Axura ROM and it doesn't feel that much slower than the G2x when it comes to running apps but the webpages opened faster on the G2x (due to its 4G antenna).
The screen quality was very blah after I got spoiled by my Vibrant's Super AMOLED. I am holding out for the Galaxy-2. Even Engadget gave it a glowing review and you know that's something since Engadget's usually too busy sucking Apple's **** to write anything good about non-iCrap phones.

Too true about Engadget. I guess I just got a phone from a bad batch. This one has every bug in the book. Crazy battery drain, random reboots, freezes when it goes to sleep. I can't even return it because I got it on the sly from my buddy that works at T-Mo.
OP, you sound suprised... Why?
Not surprised, just disappointed.

Google LG G2X
Almost all phones comebout buggy and there is a quick OTA to fix, I wouldn't worry about it they will get it right.

When I update multiple apps on the Vibrant, while an app is installing, my phone is completely unusable. Neither the HTC G2 that I tried for a week or the G2X so much as breaks into a sweat. I don't know what it is about the Vibrant that causes this. Initially, I thought it was the RFS file system. But even with Bionix and the Voodoo fix, an app install renders the phone unusable until it's complete.

It does not make sense. We all gonna get a new phone and Vibrant is the past (G2X is superior to the Vibrant in every aspect (THIS IS SO OBVIOUS) except for the Screen and ). Would you trade your G2X for a Vibrant ??? If you're kind enough to to that, then it is fine to compare G2X to our good old man Vibrant.

Actually those might not help. I forgot that I've been plugging my phone into the pc and out throughout the day.
Typed by Z using the Gingerbread keyboard.
Just change the filter to total since boot rather than unplugged. Sensor usage depends on how you use the phone as well not the same for everyone. If you're on the interwebs or youtube and rotating alot or using the phone the sensor for when to dim the screen, it will be much higher

Hey guys,
I know this was an issue on release, that was fixed, but now I notice (ec05 sfr, genocide latest) I'm having almost the same issues. Anyone else notice the upload test runs for half a second, stalls, moves a tad, stalls, and gets abysmal scores? Or is it just me. (No I haven't done a hard reset yet, that was my next plan. Just didn't wanna waste the time/effort if it was a known issue).
Sent from my pocket rocket
I have always had this issue on every epic rom I can remember. I don't know anything about it however...
3G speed tests have ALWAYS been twitchy and sporadic on the Epic. 4G looks like any normal speed test on a PC while 3G the needle looks like a feigning meth addict trying to hold a pen straight.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
While I agree they've always been wonky, I feel like it was much better back in 2.1 after the fix came out. I feel like it was never great but at least testable, and with results higher than 200kbps... maybe some devs could shine some light on the root cause of the problem? For that matter, anyone have better luck on the flakey gingerbread build that's been floating around?
Sent from my pocket rocket
Try the EB13 modem, or blame Sprint.
I have tried both EB13 and EC05 modems on SFR1.1 and did not notice a difference. I consistently get 80-150kbps upload speeds at home in front of an Airave (compared to 1600-1800 down). I can't really complain since my Epic is a pure "3G device." I did have it test at 600-800 at a Dunkin Donuts a few days ago which is a 1 in 100 shot it seems.

Lol, will try the eb13 modem, but I'm not trying to play a blame game. Just resolve an issue. And it's hard to blame sprint when I know I'm getting fairly good 3g down speeds (although my moms new thunderbolt has me seriously considering lte. 14 down 4 up...just waiting to see what happens when they roll out the caps...
