[Q] Question about clockwork recovery - G2 and Desire Z General

Please can someone clarify about clockwork....
Is it permamant like Amon RA ? Can it be accessed via pwer + home (or similar)? or do you do everything through the clockwork app ?
I didnt use it on my Hero so am unsure how it works.....
cheers

This is my first Android phone, so I don't know about Amon Ra.
But with Clockwork recovery, you can boot the phone by holding down Volume Down and Power, then that gets you into HBOOT. Then you can select the option to go into recovery, which takes you into Clockwork. Or from within the ROM Manager app you can choose to reboot straight into Clockwork.
I don't know if there's a key sequence you can use to go straight from power off into Clockwork, or if you're forced to go through HBOOT.

Not sure where "home" is on your previous phone, but holding power and the trackpad button put the phone into fastboot mode (with my engineering hboot, anyway).

oh ok, that home button
It's a capacitive button on the DZ rather than a physical button, so I presumed it didn't do anything at boot up. Though I could be wrong.
Edit - just tried it and no, it didn't do anything on boot-up

Id be interested to know if it does...at present i can boot directly to recovery which is ideal....it may be a feature of Amon RAs recovery and I know its early days yet for the Desire Z.....incidentley does anyone know if Amon RA is looking at providing a similar recovery to that of the Hero/desire ?
I find not having to use ADB ideal.....

You mean ROM Manager right?... No you don't have to use that app to use the features of the recovery,... but I did use it to do the initial install of the recovery.
Think Stevie has answered everything else yeah.

Don't apologise,.....
But yeah, its as close to Amon Ra as we gona get for now,... hopefully we will get a choice of custom recoveries in the future,.... everything was so straight forward with Amon Ra on the Hero enit.

Will the clockwork recovery still work if I uninstall the ROM Manager?

Yep, indeed it will.

[Q] I can't pass through "ClockMod Recovery". I am stuck, PLEASE HELP, I NEED YOU
HELLO ALL,
I USED THIS LINK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
TO ROOT MY MY TOUCH 4G PHONE AND IT WORKED FINE UNTIL I ATTEMPT TO INSTALL OVERCLOCKING SOFTWARE FROM>>>
http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/14/ho...ted-s-off-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-or-t-mobile-g2/
AND AFTER DOING WHAT THEU SAID MY PHONE JUST ACTED CRAZY/
EVERYTIME I TRIED TO TURN THE PHONE ON IT VIBRATES CONTINUESLY AND NEVER GETS TO THE OS. SO I LEFT IT ON FOR NIGHT LIKE THAT AND I WOKE UP IN THE MORNING OBVIOUSLY BETTERY WAS COMPLETLY DRAINED ( AFTER ALL THE VIBRATING BACK AND FORTH)
ANYWAYS, NOW IT JUST TURNS ON AND STAYS AT " MY TOUCH 4G SCREEN WHERE ITS WHITE AND THAT WRITING" IT JUST FREEZES.
IF I TRY TO HOLD VOL DOWN AND CLICK POWER BUTTON, I GET TO THE PAGE WHERE ITS WHITE AND FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET,SIMLUCK,IMAGE CRC MENU.
I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING IN THAT MENU INLUDING FACTORY RESET, NOTTING WORKS.
WHEN I ALSO TRY RECOVERY FROM THERE I CAN GET TO "ClockMod Recovery" BUT I CANT EVEN ACCES INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD, WHEN I TRY THAT ALL I SEE IS A BLACK SCREEN AND A HAT AND A BIG EYE UNDER IT.
THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING,
Step one, slow down
step two, turn off the caps.
Step three it's obvious that you have s=off if you have clockwork ROM on your phone.
At the top of your phone What recovery image do you have? 3.0.0.5? or a 2.x one?
thank you for responding, I have v3.0.0.5 version

as long as you do not have any errors on your recovery image about not being able to mount anything....to get your phone working you can do one of two things.
1)You can flash any Gingerbread based ROM either from Cyanogen(mod) or from TeamRoyal. Those all can be found in our Development section from your recovery image.
2) you can flash the PD15IMG and restore you phone back to 100% via the HBoot (engineering) screen, that can be found in our development section as well.
no luck
I get notting but a black screen with hat and eye under, everytime i try to choose anything from clockworkmod menu.I have adb installed on my pc and it regonizes my device , is there a way to reset the phone from there? maybe?

when you select something you need to select it with the track pad. If you use the power button you'll get the text will disappear.
the only way you can use ADB to flash stuff is if you have the engineering bootloader. If you just followed TheUnlockr's method then you do not have it.
i use volume buttons and power button to select it
oh ok now i used the mouse button select and i can select but now the phone is keep resrarting every like 10 seconds with a vibrate, nottting happens just restarting over and over. Where should I go next?
( remember fartest i can go is the "colockworkmod")

As he mentioned above, you need to use the trackpad buttons to make selections, NOT the power button.
If you can successfully reboot into recovery, just wipe the phone completely and flash a new ROM...

If you navigate to "advanced" and select it will it give you a new set of options?
if it does try the "mount USB" and plug it into a computer and see if you can surf the SD card via a computer.

3.0.0.5 is only compatible with 2.3 ROMS.
use this to flash it
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...pdate_Guide#First_Method_.28via_RomManager.29
and you'll want to use the "from recovery" method.

Once you are done with the PD15IMG you will have to reroot your phone. IT will return it to a 100% stock fashion.
after you re-root the phone please flash the 3.0.0.6 to help save any confusion down the road.

The original 3.0.0.6 was made by option94, and you can flash it from your existing recovery or fastboot, so booting into a ROM is not necessary.

[Q] Clockwork Recovery Mod Stuck on Hat logo

I have ran AlphaRevX succesfully. I have pushed the CWR mod to the phone using instructions provided.
When I click recovery it loads cwr but whenever I click on any of the options the menu disappears and the logo just sits there. I can click the power switch quite fast and the menu just keeps reappearing and disappearing.
I am trying to get the su zip installed but I have obviously messed up something about the cwr mod tool.
Anyone have any suggestions?
EDIT:
I am officially a moron.
I got it into my head that you need to press power off to select the right option.
I started fiddling with the touch buttons and noticed they worked too. Then I clicked the track button and it selected the option. Ha.
Monumental error on my part. Must have pushed that cwr mod 4 times. Wasted an hour.

Thank you. One thng.... it says flash in recovery mode, how do i do that?
Plug the device into the mains, plug the usb cable to pc and device. Open hardware manager on your pc. Then hold the back button for 2 secs, then while still holding the back button hold the power button down for 2 secs, then keep holding the back button for a further 2 secs. In the usb section of your hardware manager a nvidia recovery will show up. The screen on the device will remain black. That is nvidia recovery mode.

So do I need not do it as I have your ROM for now?
Also... what is a nandroid back up and how do you do it?
nandroid backup is part of clockwork mod. It creates a entire back up of your current rom, to restore if a new rom flash goes wrong.

1. Press power button, Choose reboot into recovery or something like that.
2. When the screen turns off half way, press power button to turn off the screen completely. Once screen turns off completely, let the power button go. wait for 1, 2 seconds.
3. Then press power button until you see the screen is changed. Once you see the screen changes, let the button go. You should be in the recovery mode.
Most of the people using vega comes from android phone, so they are pretty familiar with the recovery thingy
Hope it works for you.

Power phone off , power phone on , once you see the magldr screen , press and hold power , then using volume buttons scroll down and select "AD Recovory"
If you can't get into recovery your recovery is probably broken. If you tried the above post and you can't get into recovery mode you probably flashed clockwork mod via rom manager (this breaks the recovery) or did something else to damage the recovery. Download the sd recovery method via this post and follow the instructions as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17068500&postcount=2
Can you boot into recovery now? Make a backup via CWM and reinstall CWM if any problem persists.

Check if your volume keys are working in clockworkmod, and if they are, flash a ROM of your choice.

nope the volume keys dont work at all strange as many people have had the same problem is there a way of flashing via sd i have downloaded roms and tried to use through clockwork via sd but it just seems to boot up normal :S????

If your volume keys do not work, download the image of a touchscreen-based recovery and flash it using flash_image in ADB or Terminal. (flash_image recovery <file-name>
You can reboot to recovery if your ROM supports that as an option in the reboot menu, or through adb command (reboot recovery)
can u suggest a touch screen recovery program ?

Did you do anything to the phone that might of caused it to stop working? On mine i opened it and saw that the button on the ribbon that's pressed by the key was moved and it wasn't pressing it (Had to put a tiny piece of foil and tape). When you press it do you feel it kind of click or it doesn't feel like its pressing the button?
the buttons seems to be pressing down ok im just looking everywhere to try a find a solution
