Bell Froyo Release Date in Vancouver - Galaxy S I9000 General

I spoke to a representative at Bell, she said that Froyo will be rolling out December 6th through Kies. Don't know if this is posted anywhere else, just thought I'd let you eager Bell users know.

Thanks for the heads up ..if this is true let the countdown begin....

If our Kies doesnt work, we are pretty much screwed for the official bell update >_<

Never trust a Bell agent. I have an audio recording of an other agent which is 100% sure that the update will be out in November. In August, they told me it would be september.

Don't hold your breath on that one. Canada got the vibrant seemingly last. And the rollout for Froyo isn't complete in the other countries that got the I9000 before we did. Id' best guess the soonest isn't until sometime in the first quarter of the new year.
I'm thinking the failure rate after the update is gonna be huge. And Corporate wants their bonuses for a good Christmas season in terms of sales. That's why I'm saying Feb '11, after the Christmas rush & the January warehouse clearance sales.

If what you are saying is true...there is going to be some huge backlash. Especially after the post on facebook on the Samsung page which mentioned Dec 15th.

First, this is pure speculation, even more considering the post made by samsung.
First, the Froyo release is not following the same path as the release of the phone itself (having to wait after the others...) second, pre-release are already available trough test mode in kies, wich means the testing is ongoing pretty good as of now.
As for the bonuses part, in a big corporation like bell, their already given! Bell won't wait on that to give/not give bonus.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... Someone decided to crank up the old rumor mill again.
I bought my phone the day it came out on Aug 6th and have been weeks and sometimes only days away from 2.2 the whole time....

SD card failure is higher for the I9000M than the rest of the international members of this site. I know the polling is unscientific, but it does seem to indicate there may be a problem with releasing Froyo. I still stand on not holding my breath for the 15th.

Bell and Kies
You need to be careful with Bell. On Aug. 19, I got my galaxy and installed kies, as they told me to. I hit the 3 hour window when Samsung put out the corrupted update (according to the Samsung Rep). It trashed my bios. I called Bell and they said, it was my problem because it wasn't their software and they don't recommend anyone use it. When I pointed out I had an internal Bell memo instructing the retailors to tell customers to install it, and how to do it,(I still have it) I was told that was impossible, it wasn't their problem and to call Samsung. Then they hung up.
Needless to say I have not received any help from Samsung either, and the regional Rep won't answer my emails anymore.

And that's why I purchased the extra warranty coverage. $7 a month but I can run my phone over with my truck and still bring it in.

I was also told by a bell employee that 2.2 is coming in a few days.

I'm not in Vancouver (ottawa), but this morning no update through Kies.

Ya right...I'll believe it when i have it on my phone.

Just called my bell agent and he told me it would really be deploying by mid december. He talked to the samsung rep and they also received a official memo from bell stating mid decem ber. So don't hold your breath for today

Samsung Mobile already said Mid-December on their Facebook page.

Yeah, no dice here... Hopefully on the 15th, its a bit ridiculous really...

I don't see why anyone would get excited about this... BOTH of my Vibrants have died running 2.2. When this update gets released there are going to be a lot of dead vibrants

you had to hack your vibrant to get it on
that may have caused a problem. I would hope that bell will develop it to work on thier phone without the need to fool the phone and will have had ample testing to make sure it works. at least if it does not work, by putting the new OS using normal means, it will be up to \Bell to fix it.
sorry to hear you had so much trouble

Which companies are not jokes these days!
Why hasn't someone started a cell company who treats their customers properly.....
If you can offer them great service, prices and plans, the company would have it made!
no one would switch, they would tell their friends which would bring more business.
Corporations are a joke these days!!!
All they care about is your money. All people care about is MONEY!
We (the people) need to make choices "together" to be able to control the direction of these corporations.
if we started a movement here in Vancouver, with 1 million strong, we could make change happen.
Who is with me!

Looking like August 11th release date!

It appears that more evidence is showing an August 11th release date:
http://www.9computerstore.com/2010/08/06/sprint-samsung-epic-4g-release-date-and-features
They don't list a source, so this provides no new evidence for an August 11th release.

You know, those other two threads have really gone off topic, and IF the Epic releases on the 11th, then a separate thread is warranted. But only time will tell, and one of us is going to be eating some crow, and if the Epic releases on the 11th, it will be you, and if it doesn't, I guess I am the one who will be eating it. I have had to eat it before, and it doesn't taste very well, so I hope I don't have to eat it again. You take care Radar 5.

I speculate that the 20th is the original date. Yet, competitiveness drove sprint and samsung to push for the 11th; so as to beat the torch and possibly the droid 2 to the market. Their endeavors were most likely spoiled when a software glitch of some sort was found. Now, they are frantically fixing the issue and may soft launch the phone on the 11th if said glitch is repaired, or can be made available via update a short time after (much like the evo). The 20th, is a solid release date, and allows Sammy and Sprint to submit the software fix to manufacturing. This is purely conjecture and my outright lust for this phone has driven my imagination to draw such a conclusion.
Again is total BS that I am spewing.
Give me a release date Sprint, or you may soon lose a customer you never had.

I know right? And I am one of those people that wants this phone so badly I have been blatantly dismissing all those September or later claims, but this is not good news, and is probably the most specific they have been since the "Summer" commitment.
I'm really not look forward to this.
They're probably just trying to get all the bugs worked out. If the epic comes out with a lot of bugs, some people might return it and go to the Evo. I'm happy to wait a bit so all the bugs can be fixed. It will come soon enough. I'd be shocked if it didn't come out in August.
I went to another Sprint store that had the Epic ad in the window. They are the second store to tell me Aug 20 is the release date for the Epic. But, they don't know the price.
I hope it has the same $450 price tag (or less!) as the EVO. If I decide to go for the Epic I could probably get $400 for my EVO, so $50 would be a great price. Plus I still have my contract due October 1st.

That posting is from an authorized retailer, not the corporate store on Walnut St / 22.
Authorized retailers seem to be the last ones to get new phones in stock, as I have experienced with the Instinct release.

Sprint looks to be making all their high end smartphones to be $450. However, I can say for a fact that the 20th is unlikely, and NOBODY knows a concrete release date yet, at least not in the retail end.

I hate you Samsung.

So they say the Galaxy S will sell 10,000,000 units be the end of this year. Let's just say they make $100 profit on each unit sold. That's what? $1,000,000,000. Now you're telling me that you can't even provide me with a simple update. I'll tell you what if I could afford to take this phone and shove it some Samsung exec you know where I would. I would love to blame it on Sprint but I can't because no other carrier in the U.S. has it either. This is the first and last Samsung product I buy mobile phone or otherwise. I am done......

Blame it on Sprint..why you ask? Froyo is everywhere in international markets and not in US because ALL the US carriers are slow...yes ALL of them...the international community always:
1) gets new phones before us
2) gets updates before us
Just cause 1 turtle is generally faster then the other turtles does not change the fact that the rabbits already passed the goal ages ago...
In reality if people were to flame sprint enough and not Samsung..Sprint could easily force samsung to update a phone even if samsung didn't want to...why don't they? cause sprint doesn't care enough and ppl blame samsung anyways so what do they care?

Canada, the UK and Australia just started updating in the last two weeks so it is not just in the U.S. that the release was slow. It is not clear who's fault it is but I blame both. If nothing else, blame Sprint for not communicating better and for not getting a better contract with Samsung for updates after the screw up with updates for the Moment and blame Samsung because even when they started to roll out an update in Canada, it started bricking phones and had to be pulled. 7 months after Google released 2.2, Samsung should be able to put out nearly perfect updates.

While the bricking is Samsung's fault it is not uncommon...HTC had quite a few bricks on the EVO and they pulled the upgrade...when they tested it theirs did not brick so they assumed it was fine and deployed it...once issues arose they pulled it..came back a week later with everything fixed...
Either way..can you explain how UK, Canada and Australia were able to do it by end of year and sprint couldn't?

I ****ing will never buy anything Samsung again... also hope their kids die in a ****ing road accident and then the remains get eaten by coyotes, so they can't even have an open casket funeral.
But then again, that's just me.
I was looking at the shift also, then I saw the speculated off contract price. 50 bucks more than the epic but it's hardware isn't as "good" as the epic. One of the sites I was reading said their opinion was sprint waited on this phone too long and it's specs are mediocre. Pay 550 for a midrange phone? I bet 4g is the only reason the price is jacked up on this one. My opinion, that phone isn't worth how much they might sell it for. Way overpriced!
All my luck, I'd buy another evo and a month later sprint would have another top end phone to replace the evo. Oh yeah, if they have 2.1 on the shift, then that's another excuse for it to be a waste of my time. Notice how some of the names for these phones are just so easy to make fun of? Epic fail, htc shift (minus the f).

Yeah but big difference. Htc released the update just over 2 months after froyo was released. Samsung released the Canadian update 7 months after froyo and they still couldn't get it right.
Samsung also said that they released froyo to the UK carriers in Oct. And expected it to be released to consumers in early November. It didn't get released until mid December. Sounds to me like maybe their was a big flaw and it had to go back to samsung.
There is no way to know for sure who is at fault but I am going to blame both. I think the manufactures and carriers work together on these updates and they both have to share responsibility for the success or failure of their efforts.

But see the reason why the EVO was updated so fast was due to pressure from Sprint to be the first one...so while they both hold responsibility..putting pressure on sprint is 10x more effective then putting pressure on samsung...
see notice most people who give up respond by saying:
"thats it im not buying another samsung device ever again"
but no one is saying
"thats it im not buying another sprint device again"
Now true that other carriers didn't release upgrades either for their Galaxy S phones...but at same time..Sprint doesn't care if you buy an HTC, EVO or Samsung as long as your paying their monthly bill...
I just think the carriers need to be put under more pressure...lets take the moment for example...they said it doesn't have hardware for froyo..which is a lie because its 95% same hardware as Intercept and Transform...people complained to samsung to no evail..if people complained and blamed sprint...you'd see Froyo out the door in no time for the Moment...
In US carriers are king, and they are the ones that need to be pressured to get things done..
Meh, just do the ext4 conversion, and download the latest quantum rom. It's stable, fast, and overall just great. After you do this, you'll stop complaining about an update. I'm perfectly happy as it is, and in absolutely no rush.

Do you know why? Because us Americans are a bunch of whiny *****es who go into cardiac arrest when we find out that we have to pay more than $19.99 for a cell phone, need our hands constantly held and for whatever reason, expect that phone companies owe us the world. Ooh, also because for whatever reason phone companies refuse to implement bunch of features that GSM and CDMA networks support. Why can't I have two lines on a single SIM card like I had in Europe? I'm taking to you AT&T and T-Mobile. Why are we just now getting features that Japanese and Korean networks had years ago? Simply, there is no market for advanced phones here.

Frankly I don't care who's fault it is. Both Companies profit off of users buying/owning an Epic, therefore both should bust ass and get the update out. If I received this type of service at a restraunt... forget about it.
I talked to the Denver District Sprint Store Manager today nd he said he talked to his boss and got the reason the epic wasn't getting an update yet... Sprint ID. There are apparently integration issues, then it was removed, added, removed, yada yada. Apparently Froyo for Epic was ready to be released ota on the 26th but when push came to shove the sprint ID was having issues, so the update was pulled.
Not sure how true this is... but so help me if Sprint ID is the holdup... I don't want that **** on my phone anyway..

Hey Dude where is my update

I have been following many several threads on this board and others about lack of updates for the Samsung Focus and other devices stuck (suck) with ATT.
Outside of the cellphone world, I am a Samsung Factory trained technician for Samsung Business Telephone Systems. My experience with Samsung over the years, has been, that even though Samsung produces some very compelling devices, equipment, they seem to be severely lacking of any effort to provide usable updates . Instead, would rather you buy the next big thing, commercial, industrial, military, etc. They are selling for today and leave behind any who are not willing to upgrade.
Got a clue where this marketing strategy came from?
The good old USA.
Samsung feeling infrerior, errors are covered up in the marketing babble.
Kind of thinking this may be holding things up a bit.
Are we waiting for an update from Samsung? Or is it an update from Microsoft, which has been delivered and is being "tested" by AT&T?
not waiting on anything myself

It is the carriers holding it up. There were a few MS employee tweets that said the first update (pre-nodo) was done in Dec 2010 but the carrier's were holding it up a lot.
I assume the same is the case for the second update (no do /copy n' paste). As far as I know Mango is already done too and they just need to work with mfgs to get it into customer roms for each model. Then of cource ATT will have to test it for 3-6 months...
According to some sources, the NoDo update will be out later this month for the AT&T devices. Whether that happens or not is anybody's guess.
May be Samsung specific

My experience has been that even whithin the same product line, different equipment levels may be supported, or not, though you need a different patch to make each version accesible to on going maintainence. Very fractured infrastructure is why I stopped supporting their Business Telephone line of products.
Your issue is with AT&T not Sammy I'm afraid. I've had my nodo for some weeks now. (Rogers, Canada)
Not feeling very comfortable with either right now

No complaints. Much to do about nothing though IMHO. Cut and Paste and thats about it..... Waiting patiently for Mango now.

new timeline for HSUPA update

I just got off the phone with a rep from ATT who followed up with a complaint I filed with the BBB.
This guy was a lot nicer then past CSR's that I've talked to in the past. He informed me that ATT is aware of all the problems that people have had with the Atrix and the Inspire, and that an update coming up Late April and EARLY MAY will directly address our upload speeds.
So looks like we'll probably get our update at the end of MAY. I should have known that ATT couldn't commit to a whole MONTH to get an update out. Ridiculous. Oh well, the longer I wait, the easier it will be for me to get out of this ETF if I decide to switch.
I don't want to believe it but I think its true.

So looks like we'll probably get our update at the end of MAY. I should have known that ATT couldn't commit to a whole MONTH to get an update out. Ridiculous. Oh well, the longer I wait, the easier it will be for me to get out of this ETF if I decide to switch.

You say end of April and early May, then say end of May........................which is it? Early May could be May 1st!
We also have applications out already for testing the next update with Motorola, and that will more than likely start this weekend, with the update going live next week sometime if the last update test was anything to go by. That update is rumoured to address upload speeds by turning on HSUPA.
Personally, I wouldn't trust anything coming from a rep. They are there to make you feel good, especially when it relates to a complaint.

thread starter seems to have confused himself.
End of April/Early May is only a week or 2........ which would coincide with the recent emails of testing new software update. I say this is good news!!

Sorry guys, I should have clarified... The rep said beginning of May, but when I said end of May, I was inferring that ATT wasn't going to get us this update by the new timeline of early May, and that we would actually get it at the end of May because ATT would *probably* keep pushing back the update.
It's AT&T... the masters of stringing their customers along while they drag their feet.
I don't expect anything from them in April.
The SOAK tests haven't even been released yet, so there is no time for that testing to be completed and still make an end of April release date.
Considering the likely launch of the beta test of the upgrade, if there are no deal breaking new bugs introduced, they can release the update for everyone before end of April. But when implementing new stuff you never know if you introduced new bugs until you start testing it, so I guess that's why AT&T gave you a two week window for release.
This is of course assuming the update beta testers will get is related to the HSUPA.
I was just at our local corporate store on an unrelated issue. When I mentioned the HSUPA cap and my X10 has 4+ times the upload speed of the Atrix, he was completely thrown and didn't look like he even believed me. I didn't bother asking about the upgrade after that.

you have to remember that:
A- he probably uses an Iphone
B- he is a salesperson
C- 90% of AT&T salespeople are cashiers, not salesman. Meaning, if someone wants an iphone its "cash or charge?." they wont bother trying to get to know Android

While they are certainly not what I would call Android savvy, almost every rep in our local store carries android phones surprisingly.

Well said. Sadly enough he carries the Inspire and I would think he would be aware of the data cap.
they can still make it by end of april..when they BETA tested 1.5.7 they still had less than a week release to general public..and this time it isnt a beta it's a pre-release so it would be a shorter turn-around
I have found the average ATT rep, whether store, corporate, or janitor, to be quite uninformed when it comes to "release dates" or "technical knowledge"...regardless of what phone they carry.
I wish people would stop believing **** until it actually happens. When the updates comes out, it comes out. I wish people would stop guessing and speculating on when it's going to be released. ATT sales reps generally don't know when the updates are coming out, the one guy I talked to didn't even know what rooting meant.
Patience is not taught at a young age anymore it seems.

I think they just need something to whine and cry about once we got speed they'll fall back on bootloader issue..Im not a att or motorola fanboy but I know crying in a unconnected forum wont change anything we ALL elected to stick with the phone despite having the chance to return it..and if you filed a BBB complaint they would have taken phone back after the 30days...so basically we all signed off on the treatment and agreed to endure by keeping the device
Amazing how someone will actually believe what a CSR on the phone says. They stick to the script, or make things up as they go based on the same rumors we all hear.

Haha, quoted for truth! I was messing with a rep the one day at a local AT&T store asking him when Android 2.2* would be available for the Atrix, and he said later this year, most definitely, then I asked him when 4G will activated and he said 4G is already enabled, which obviously he is wrong on both counts.
I left the store after telling him that the Atrix already ships with 2.2 and he should read up on the products they sell. I don't know how the guy was able to keep his job.. I can take a **** that knows more about phones than that guy. Haha.
**For the hard headed... I KNOW WE HAVE ANDROID 2.2, I WAS OBVIOUSLY ****ING WITH THE SALES REP!

Is that exactly what he said.... basically word-for-word? "Late April and Early May"? Uuh... if that's the case, then i think it should be more like "late April AND early May"... and less the way you put it. Am i the only one that noticed the "and" in between april and may?

So I think you're directing this towards me, let me just explain my stance here..
Yeah I decided to keep the phone after my 30 day policy expired, my choice to do so or not.
My BBB complaint wasn't about "when I'm getting HSUPA" it was more on the constant lies, shadiness, and deceptive marketing practices that ATT employees were running by me. Most of them were uninformed, and a lot of them were very rude. The CSR that called me today was the nicest person I talked too on the phone. Other CSR's would say I'm lying, or I'm wrong when I accused of ATT crippling their phone (when in all actually ATT did, and admitted to it, not in those words). And almost every CSR rep would say I had the "wrong data plan" and that I would have to discontinue my unlimited data plan for a 4G tiered data plan to access higher download and upload speeds. Some even said I needed a new "sim" when I did have the new 4G sim already.
So the way I saw it, ATT was trying to pull more money out of me and crippling my data by making false claims.
And that was my BBB complaint in a nutshell. Sorry, when I deal with a business I'm paying $100 a month for, I'd expect their employees to be educated in their companies products and offerings. And if they don't know, then I'd expect them to find someone that does know, instead of pushing me towards other, more expensive services.
okay end /rant.
Can't wait till this bootloader is unlocked!

no. I meant Late April OR early may. Didn't mean to be confusing

Phone ordered, has been delayed twice!?!

I order my unactivated AT&T 8GB model and its been delayed twice already, and no one at dell is helpful, they just try to get me off the phone and don't have any actual reason besides saying its delayed, and then in one spot it says "in production" and in another spot it says "in pre production" I ordered it on 8/28 with next day delivery?! and now its saying shipping date for the phone is 9/21 when you try to make a new order, so I'm wondering how I could even have mine before that even though it says delivery date: 9/13 (updated) from the 9/4 it was originally.
I also kept asking them if maybe the delay was from a mango software update but the non English speaking reps didn't even know what that was and had no idea. Do we have any solid evidence that maybe this is the case and this is why its taking so long?
Welcome to perils of purchasing a DVP. Guess Dell hasn't improved much since its launch.

Indeed. Same thing when I bought my DVP too - delayed twice with no explanation. Although everyone was quite polite, trying to get progress information out of Dell was like trying to get blood out of a stone
Took over a month to arrive...
Part of the problem is that no one wants to help, they swear it will be shipped on a certain date and it isnt, and I have not spoke with one AMERAICAN person on the phone and its annoying, I tell them to speak clearly but they do not, seriously dell has the worst tech support or phone reps ever. Half of them only know how to do 1 thing and 1 thing only, I bet half of them at "Dell Mobility" support havent even seen the phone and dont even know what OS it runs unless its somehow in the order.
I got mine next day I was actually surprised.
That's weird. I ordered mine on Sunday, and it's being delivered tomorrow. Mine is T-Mobile, though. I dunno if that matters.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
it does say tmobile verisons are shipping sooner but I dont see why any version should be delayed this long. I feel naked with only 1 phone right now :/
It is my understanding that phones may see delayed ship dates due to Mango being installed on them. I believe that Dell may be one of the first to supply Mango to existing hardware.
thats what I heard and thought but everytime I ask a dell rep either via an online chat or over the phone they have no idea what that means
I have 5 ATT ones that keep getting pushed back. They were ordered one at a time over a month.. but it looks like they are all coming on the 29th now.. hopefully.
Got a few t-mobile ones in that timeframe and they came in pretty fast.
oddly all the ATT phones showed up today. So much for dell holding them to put Mango on
hmmm... well mine still hasn't shipped, even a rep on twitter said she was gonna try to expedite it, but no change in order status, one place it says in production and the other says in pre production. But also the weird thing is, one their website all they have are unlocked versions now with att or tmobile bands. The Tmobile specific or ATT specific versions no longer exsist so I wonder whats gonna happen to mine that was att specific just unactivated full retail.
It's my understanding that the reason for the delay is due to DVP being shipped with Mango installed and since MS hasn't officially released Mango update yet, they are waiting so that it would coincide with the release date. Then again, it may all be just speculations.
Ya well no one seems to know 100% and now my order has yet again been delayed to the 16th, this is the 4th delay. Dell support is garbage I want everyone to know and avoid them don't give them any more business!
I ordered a replacement under warranty on the 2nd and they told they were backordred to the 16th and to call back then to have it actually shipped out. I'm thinking they are basically holding everything back for Mango, at least on the AT&T side.
That makes sense. Means you'll get the Mango firmware without having to wait for AT&T's notoriously-slow 'testing' process.
Wondering if Dell are not explaining the delays because they have a non-disclosure agreement with Microsoft about the Mango release date. Otherwise, you would think they would publicly announce that phones were being held back to a specific date for Mango.
well more and more things keep saying that mango will be this week but I'm so frustrated that my phones been delayed for pretty much weeks now, I don't want to keep waiting, I know its a good update but I can do it myself.
I'm not sure how relevant my experience is to this topic, but I did place an order today for a subsidized DVP through Dell moblity's phone line. I got a English as his first language rep who seemed pretty knowledgeable. First I wanted to know if the DVP was still being subsidized through AT&T since it was no longer showing online, he confirmed that it was still $0.99 with contract for AT&T and T-mobile. I then asked if there would be any delay on the shipping (siting that I read some folks online were having an issue). He explained that there was a firmware update(not mango) that both carriers needed to approve and AT&T took longer to approve it than t-mobile.
Needless to say, my order has been placed as of 1PM eastern 9/12 and the estimated arrival time is 9/15, hopefully just in time for Mango *fingerscrossed*.
I just tried to place an order for an 8 GB model and the rep advised me due to backorders, it wouldn't ship for approx. 10 days. I chose to back out since I have an order for a 32 GB that keeps getting delayed (but I'd rather wait for) that is currently slated to ship around the same time as this one would have been delayed.
