[help plz] - Epic 4G General

look i know this is not the place to be posting this but im freaking out here and i cant find an answer someone plz help i just got the epic (switcthed from the evo) and my 3g speeds are horrible i did the new up date dk17 and put and now its so bad that im getting .01 mb wtf!!!! plz help

Try updating your Profile and PRL using system updates.

i did! i dont know what else to do i love this phone but danm my evo had way better speeds what else can i do?

on 3g i constantly get 1.5mbps download and im on dk17 so there has to be more at play then the radio.
::edit::
ok look you state you know this isnt the forum for this question yet you post in here and in general? making more topics isnt going to get more people to log on to help you with your issue

Try a different rom? Wipe 3x , cache and reinstall? You should have better results. Either that or wait for 2.2 to release officially.

Could you possibly be connected to 1x instead of 3g? I know with some epic ROMS including the stock ROM when connected to 1x the EPIC still shows 3g in the top status bar. Maybe try a different ROM

Umm.. Did you go straight from out of the box I.E DI07 to DK17? If so.. you may want to flash the DI18 modem before you flash dk17.. could very well cause issues i believe.

New Sprint Radio 2.42.00.03.10

I flashed this to my Eris and it seems to have faster data speeds and better reception.

i definitely wouldn't go flashing any 'ole radio just because its available for other phones. proceed at your own risk everyone...his boost could easily be coincidence. youre not gonna get that much change.

As long as its CDMA its good.

This radio works fine on the Eris. Still, use caution when flashing it and if your phone explodes don't spam the dev forum asking for help.
No more not being able to make/receive calls as of yet. Also it seems my wifi tether works now but may have been the new ivan rom that came out.
I recommend against flashing non-Eris specific radios.
Do it at your own risk.

It COULD brick your phone... I told myself I would never flash radio images when I gained root. I'm fine with roms and themes thank you very much.

Yeah, that's not true dude. Flashing an incorrect radio update CAN completely brick your phone. Flashing a radio update updates your SPL. If the SPL isn't compatible with your phone/kernel, it could very well completely ruin your phone beyond recoverable.
You're lucky, but for future reference, it's a really bad idea to go flashing any ol' radio update except one that's been tested and working with your phone and kernel.

so awesome
This is why I felt comfortable with flashing the radio...
The ONLY reason I flashed this radio is due to the fact that others did this with no bad side effects (so far). Also, toastcfh has tested other heroc radios on an Eris with no bad side effects (so far) as well as done some good research for us by flashing the radios and seems to be quite knowledgeable when it comes to them.
I'm not authorizing that you should go flashing "any 'ol radio" but heroc and desirec radios seem to be created with the intention of being used on Sprint and Verizon according to research by toastcfh.
toastcfh said:
now for the question about why some radios say heroc instead of eris...
the heroc radio are just that... heroc radios from sprint. its a cdma radio so it works the same as verizon radio. dont believe me?! do a strings | grep on all the radios and u will see they are all using both sprint and verizon logins and such. also as right now im running the latest radio which is the heroc one. everything works fine and its the one ive had best results with on both my Sprint Hero and my wifes Verizon Eris. although others may find better results with other versions.

Just make sure you know that just because it worked for someone else doesn't mean you won't find that underlying control signal some day.

No, only GSM carriers use SIM cards. Sprint is CDMA.
then thats wierd , i kept seeing that messege , i use the nexus lock and when it woke from sleep the error was there until i unlocked it

I believe that was/is a bug with the nexus lock mod. I remember when lwp mod first came out I tried it and noticed the sim card message. I have not gone back to that since so I can't be 100% sure.
well whatever it was it went away after i did a restore so alls good
Is anyone experiencing any issues with this one, I have flashed this radio and my 3G signal is not as good as it used to be.
I have 2 Eris' one stock (baseband 2.32.40.11.09) and one rooted with 2.42.00.03.10. The stock gets 4 3G bars with -70dBm while the rooted Eris gets 2 or less bars with -52 dBm.
From what I'm seeing, 3G speed is also suffering on the Eris with the newer baseband. Can anyone make sense of this?

yeah that's what doesn't make sense to me. the rooted phone says it has a better signal strength, but I'm only getting 2 3G bars (at most!).
I would like to test it but I am unable to find the original 2.32.40.11.09 radio image.
@above
metering has changed in more recent radios. aka bars vs signal strength is different.
soooo is this a yes or no go for flashing?
I tried this out, no noticeable difference in signal strength or speed where I am. Flashed it back to the newest ERIS radio...

Increase Signal?

I'm not talking about the image of the signal, I'm talking about the actual signal. My Vibrant seems to be getting horrible reception in places that I normally get great reception. Is there a new radio or a setting somewhere that I can change? I'm getting almost no signal with 3g on, but decent signal with it off.
Thanks in advance.

Flash the JI6 radio, i get flawless reception inside buildings etc.
Is there a simple way to do this? Without ODIN?
Someone needs to explain the difference between 3g and edge.
I know that shouldn't make a difference, I'm just saying.

Yes it will. T-Mobile's edge network is stronger than their 3g network. They basically have two different networks.. unlike ATT.
Is the new J16 radio been packaged to a zip alone?
I would also like to see the JI6 modem packaged in a standalone update zip file. I'd love the update without installing a new buggy rom and I don't trust Odin, already bricked me once.
Bionix 1.5 comes with the JI6 modem and it is not buggy at all. It is very close to stock with minor tweaks for performance. I suggest you use that. I've been using it without flaw.

If people flash that rom or any other rom for that matter won't they still need to odin back to stock to receive updates and 2.2 when it arrives? I myself prefer not to mess with odin either after reading some of the issues on here. Its one of the reasons why I have not flashed any roms and probably won't.

1. Ppl who have rooted will Most likely have a 2.2 update with dev sprinkles the first few hours after they get the source which someone will dump after getting the OTA or maybe sammy will be nice enough to make it available upon the OTA release.
2. ODIN does more good then harm. It is the only thing that can bring you back from a brick. As long as you read enough & understand what you are doing before being flash happy then you will see how great the development is & you will enjoy its benefits.

+1 for the JI6 modem!
And yeah it's sort of a given that you will likely have to flash back to JFD to be recognized for an OTA...
Just keep in mind HOW OTA's work. They're generally pushed out in batches of phones rather than all at once. All at once would just be unmanageable. On balance those of us who do routinely use Odin will be able to get the version pushed via OTA quicker than most...primarily because we're an impatient lot.
Even as simple as it is on the Galaxy S phones to do (given you do your homework of course) experimenting with firmwares isn't for everybody...

Tell that to my hardware disabled Vibrant that had to get exchanged out because it couldn't be unbricked. Not taking that risk again on a hardware locked Vibrant.
As for Bionix 1.5, I'm using 1.4 but if I understand correctly the BT issue won't be corrected until 1.6.
For some reason with the J16...I'm getting more bars in NYC Subway systems.. I can talk even longer before it cuts off...I know ppl are jealous lol

Vibrant extremely SLOW!! 59 kb download and 100kb upload.. Youtube won't play at ll

Idk wat to do.. I bricked the phone once already tryin a stock kernel thinking that would help... I have a stock rom, and j16 kernel.. My youtube videos won't Load, and I have no idea what to do... can anyone please help? Im clocked right now at 56kb download with a full bars WTF!!!

Did you cap out on bandwidth? It happen to me so I got the famous text that said they would reduce my bandwidth because I was tethering too much. When I was reduced, I only had download speeds around 70. Otherwise via Odin re-load the modem using Phone tab. ji6 modem is attached.
I hope this helps.
I grabbed the modem file you attached - thanks!
How can I push this onto my phone? And can I put it on the phone without impacting my kernal and ROM?
Do you have more modem files?
U have to flash the modem. Man sounds like tmob cut u off. Did you go over 5 gig cap.

Via Odin. Use the Phone tab and just put in the .bin file.
aIfter my phone got the soft brick, I odin back to j16, put the pit file in the pit, and the j16 .tar in the pda.. It got me back to stock (which I was in originally when the speed initially dropped)... The problem never got resolved tho, still lagging
I haven't tried ur way tho, im gonna try out tonite if I can get on a pc
Btw.. I tried using rom manager to FLASH AXURA 2.04, and during the recovery, my phone couldn't install the rom, and yet again I lost everything.. good thing im backed up... 2nd time im back to stock, and my connection is still lagging
You went over your data allotment. Not much to it, you're not going to solve it. You need to wait until your cycle is over. Until then disable 3G.
You dun got capped, dawg.
Disable 3g, go EDGE only til the end of your billing cycle, and use more wifi next month.
Im going through same issues. I really hope its not because of Tmobile slowing connections down.i mean if its that slow wtf is the point of calling it unlimited web.when after 5gb its not even usable.bs

If you were downloading it using 3g then yes. But there's probably no way you can download even 1 GB worth of Apps in a month.
Ok do this is weird...t mo slowed my 3g way down after getting the text message. My plan restarts in 6 days, but all of a sudden today I have full 3g speed. Happy they gave it back to me early!

This again? The point is simple but you may not like it which doesn't make it any less unlimited though IMO. I consider it unlimited because the data never shuts off and you never pay overages either. I'm rather thankful that if I go over the "soft cap" that T-Mobile will not rape me with overage charge or cut me off like some other carriers do. As long as you don't use it as your primary ISP and use WiFi occasionally, I don't see this being an issue that often. I partially blame the people who tether(ed) gluttonously for this trend.
If your phone was unlocked would you be able to switch to AT&T 3G then your speed would be faster until T-Mo gave you your speed back?

if you had an ATT SIM card and data plan... sure.
I had this problem when flashing back to stock. Going into setting and status showed the signal was all over the place and would just drop often even with half to full bars. Had to reflash it a second time to clear it up but ended up just using Obsidian 4.2 and now things are much better. Signal has improved greatly too.

First post be nice.

So I'm running Kings Rom 7.3 its amazing. Only I'm having data issues, I'm only getting 1k. I haven't updated my radio yet. I'm new to this. I've only been rooted about a month. I did get the custom lock ring to work and I'm now rocking the blue skull. I can't do the ##3282# because the rom comes with a custom dialer. It really didn't bother me that much until I read the post below about the guy getting thrown off sprint for data roaming. Is it just that easy to update to the gingerbread radio? I know I've seen the link so I know I can find it. I also tried updating my PRL and profile to no avail. Any suggestions or is the 1K something I don't need to worry about. It would be nice to get 3g back. Thanks for any help
Stock sprint roms always show data as 3g or 4g. The 1x was added in so you would know what speed you're REALLY at. If it's showing 1x, then chances are you've been at 1x all along... you just didn't know it until now.
Thanks Bill. I appreciate it. I know it's the King's ROM but you did have something to do with the lock ring and boot screen mods? Right? I was tryna post in the Kings Rom thread but since its dev I'm locked out at the moment. I didn't want to PM the King cuz he proly has mad people blowing his **** up. I would love to thank him too. This ROM is ridiculous!!! Next step flashing the transparent task bar...
Also I flashed the new radio,PRI,and wimax from Caulkin's list. Still 1K. Thanks for the info Bill. I was more worried about data roaming issues from the post below of the guy losing his service. Every now and again I get a roaming notification that clicks off after a second. So I got a little scared
Thanks again you guys are amazing.
Thanks. Had nothing to do with the lockscreen mods though.. just some additional color theming and battery icons. Glad you like the rom. Keep an eye out over there... cool new stuff coming out later this week.

BB 67 Limited to 2 Meg

Title says it all, can't download faster than 2 MB/s, has anyone else got this problem?
Before installing the new baseband I could get speeds of 7 Meg quite easily, I going to try installing an old baseband on the new firmware to see if that fixes anything.
I tried searching but found no mention of this. (Found lots of helpful "use the search function" posts, do people realise that people using the search have to go though so many of these to find anything relevant.)
Update: Flashed .61 baseband and no probs, need somewhere with better signal to test the speed.
interesting....let everyone know your results

Plus, the phone tends to use the best connection available.
If H is available, why would it connect to 3G?
I can only get 3G and H ... It's drains pretty fast battery -.-
7mb/s over HSDPA/3G or WiFi? That is amazing if your down speed is that much, even in Percival from Highrule's guide to 3.5g, people were not getting anything close to 7mb/s down.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951765
That is amazing if your phone can handle those speeds over HSDPA/3G. Can you provide us with some screen shots and any mods that you did?
Thanks!
It might not if been quite 7, but was def over 6. The signal is so bad here I only get 56k modem speeds. Hopefully flashing the older baseband fixed the prob and I'll post screens next time I go into town.
I read a post from Z, if my mind don't fail, saying that baseband restrict for country.. is there any specific baseband for South Africa?

so far.. 61 & 67 work well in S.A.
Okay, since the X10 supports HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, I have no idea what Megs you are talking about.
Under perfect circumstances your max is 7.2/8 = 0.9MB/s, so I'm confused.
Obviously mega bits.
So no 1 else with this prob?
Tried in manchester (big uk city) center in 3 places and can't even get 2 meg now, but not far off.
Might try another baseband, prob go back to the 1 before I upgraded to .67 wish I hadn't bothered, caused loads of probs and the battery life and performance hasn't improved like many said.
It's your signal, no baseband restriction, maybe and just a would guess.....have you tried wiping your caches in recovery??

It's probably just that baseband in your particular area.
