Hey there,
yesterday i was searching around the web cause of my battery drain (my hd2 was empty in <1 day).
Then i found an market app: Battery FU
What does it do? It simply disables mobile data connection, when the hd2 is in standby. after wake up the phone, the network is connecting.
now i lost 4-5% of my battery in ~4h in normal use.
Thats great!
Give it a try and post your experience.

It's called manual update. I actually prefer to sync apps myself, then to have them doing it themselves all the time. So to each, his own...
Thanks for the tip, Prexx.

+1, Agree.
Why should my HD2 update the latests news all the time, when i just look every 1-2h on it? Makes no sense for me.
When i want to read them, i open the facebook-app or whatever, update the news and read them.

Manual sync is fine for news, facebook, etc but for emails/Google Voice you want push notifications.

Definitely +1 for that. I rely on my emails too much to have to manually update them every 15 mins, but it does sound like for some it could be really good.

Improve Battery life with automated tasking!

I have struggled with horrible battery life. I tried everything from roms, radios, setcpu, registry tweaks, all builds on this site and still couldnt pull much more out of my battery.
I ran across an app yesterday while digging through some articles looking for a battery miracle and found an app on the market called tasker. It is an automated tasking app that allows you to set different variations for anything you could imagine on your phone.
I have only scratched the surface with what it can do. The link below has a simple GPS setup to get started.
It enables you to turn on a certain function (WIFI, GPS, Bluetooth) when you open an app and then allows you to close it once the app closes. No more forgetting to use the power control widget!
Hopefully this thread can evolve with suggestions and other setups to help save more battery!
Today I was able to get 13 heavy usage hours out of my phone. Before this I was in the neighborhood of 8-10 depending on usage.
Any suggestions or new scenarios appreciated.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing. This app is AMAZING!!!! (I didn't really get it for battery life, my life is already great, but it's so handy for everything and has so many options!)

Does Tasker support turning on/off 3G? I.E. could I set it to turn off 3G ad drop to EDGE when the screen is off, thus saving battery?
yeah.. it works awesome.. so many settings to config up.. endless combinations lol..
good stuff dude!
3g

Yes, you can set it to turn off everything when you turn the sreen off.
To do this go into tasker
Add new
Click Event
Click Display
Click Display off
Click Done
Click Plus sign in bottom left corner
Tap Net
Tap Mobile Data with the gear beside it
So the same thing but in reverse for Display on!
Along with this you can set a time profile to check turn on data every X minutes to grab your emails
New Time
00:00 to 23:59
repeat every x mins
add task mobile data on
It dues shut off APN completely however, I dont think there is a way, yet, to just shut off 3g. If anyone know a way please add it.
Hope this Help!
Looking for help with a profile
Need some help from the community.
I am trying to set up a profile that will work as follows:
Screen off > Kill all tasks using ATK
If I choose it as an app it loads the app but doesn't kill anything. This would be a great battery saver.
Anyone?
This looks like an excellent app.
Just a quick question (I've only ever installed free apps from the market )
If I pay for this app and validate/register it online using a Desire based android build, but then subsequently load a different build (maybe a nexus based one) will the app still install and work correctly?
Or will the app be seen as being transferred to another phone and refuse to work?
Thanks for any advice
Guys,
Please don't post warez or links to warez (see XDA rules).
Thanks

Current widget is fine (even reporting every minute, drain is negligible), as is g-mail auto-sync as long as the interval is reasonable say hourly or longer, whats causing issues with spare-parts?
how do you reduce the intervals of auto-sync, because I couldn't find this option on my dhd.
For spare parts, I was just asking.
I heard the stock sms messaging app drains a lot of battery too, so I am switching to Go sms and see if it helps.

I'd say that the sms app draining is just another rumor. And for the first post none of the listed drain much. My settings everything on (3g) and not current widget but battery monitor widget and the average drain when idle around 3-5 mA with occasional peaks, due to data transfer while syncing. Also whatsapp on and various other background apps. Oh and CM7 latest build.
i really hate gmail
it gives huge spikes..
Where I check my Partial Wage Usage with SpareParts
I am getting these items
Dialler (Most usage)
UID 10030
Android System
Maps
GO SMS
Messaging
Calender Storage.
How can I disable Maps and the stock Messaging app? I don't why they are there since I have location turn off, gps turn off. And I turn off auto-retrieve and notification for my default messaging app.
What exactly is Dialler? what does it do?
Can anyone help. My phone is burning insane amount of battery during stand-by.
Spare parts? I think it works ondemand basis. I think YouTube is another app preventing sleep.

I haven't found any way to do it, people say you can change it when you factory reset, but otherwise, you can't
Maybe Gmail uses push, so updated on demand... (just guessing)
yes, auto-sync practically is push mail, but there isn't an option you can change it to fetch intervals instead?
I can use the stock email app, but its so crap!
Anyone know any decent email client solution for android?

If there's some strange drain by maps have you tried manually closing it from the settings-applications while you don't actually use it? That should do it.
thing is I killed it using android assistant and they just start pop up again.
and I haven't even used it to begin with.

Yep, that's the problem with closing apps with task killers etc, if android thinks it should be running it will restart it
Titanium Backup has been preventing sleep on my phone recently for some reason.

Seriously if you use the "killed selected" option to terminate these processes it will just drain more battery. These processes will get restarted as soon as they are killed. That's the android way. I am already thinking dumping this function in my app - Android Assistant. The reason I let it stay is there are still some android 2.1 users and they need this feature.
If you are thinking about saving battery, root your phone and uninstall all unneccessary battery-draining apps
or use the normal way to save battery: turn off gps, bluetooth, wifi, lower screen brightness etc.(and these are also available in Android Assistant )
I un-installed maps and im good to go since i use Co-pilot
No problems with titanium backup pro

Ya, kinda' laggy.
The gallery is crap.
Use this:

The reason it takes ages to load FOR YOU is because you are using task killers that unload it from memory.
Each time you load it up, it has to fully load again, rather than instantaneously popping up.

I have to agree here. I read the "task killers are bad" article and initially dismissed it as "no way" but since getting my Play I have not cleared all my tasks and it definitely runs perfectly fine and seemingly faster than my other Android devices that I religiously killed tasks on.
That said I still run ATK for when I actually have to kill a task, ex:a program is stuck and won't even FC, or my email acts up occasionally and won't retrieve. I find killing the email app and then opening it again cures it.

I've found if I don't force close Gallery, its process will become a huge battery drain and my Play won't last a full day. That said, I do prefer it over Quick Pic, as it does run faster (for me).

Nope. Open processes do not drain the battery.
When you are not using them, the Android o/s freezes the process which eliminates processing power and battery power.
The only time an open process will drain your battery is if you are using a custom rom that doesnt support process freezing.

Problem is, when you go to battery usage when this problem occurs, Gallery does appear as taking up anywhere from 25-35% of the battery life.
Only a phone restart or force close of the app fixes the issue.
It doesn't happen too often anymore.

I have had my phone on this charge for 11h 28m and 46 seconds. My battery level is at 51%.
I have used the gallery today to show my work friends a couple of photos and a video. (about 30 seconds worth).
Gallery battery usage reports at 0.0%.
Something is wrong with your set up. The gallery works fine on my phone and doesnt drain the battery at all.
I suggest you are either using a custom rom that doesn process freeze the gallery, or you have an app killer that is killing the gallery.
I cant think of anything else it could be.
Hope you fix it anyway. GL
My phone takes a bit to load pictures too. I find that the droid in general needs a better way of shutting down unused programs. Too often do i need to restart my phone to get it working at top notch again.

My battery sucks lately. It may be since the last xloud update.
I can't get through a day just on standby. If I make a call or two it is dead before I get off work.
I use the task killer all the time and almost never use the gallery and don't use facebook. I do you Go launcher but it wasn't bad before the update.
Don't use the task killer. Install some scripts and custom Init. d scripts. Best way to conserve battery is to install juice defender ultimate

Last update had a bug which drains the battery.
There is a fix thread on the forums somewhere that explains why it is bugged.
You need to go to settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, network operators, then select manual instead of automatic.
The bug is basically that when you leave it on automatic, it will constantaly scan for radio signals whether you have a signal or not.
Took me a while to find out what it was, then someone else found a proper fix for it.
Can you tell me which forun and the thread title with those bugs?
Thanks for the Tip.

Exgange Push - Battery Drain

I have read a number of posts where some are experiencing severe drain like me and others that are not. I have tried KE2, KG3, KG6 and now KG5 all have been the same as soon as push is enabled on my work email exchange account with the stock email app, there is an immediate drop in the battery graph and the phone heats up, with the awake time showing as almost constant even when screen is off.
This drains my battery at around 10%/hr whereas with sync set to manual, I am only getting a drain of up to 1%/hr. Problem is I want to use push!
So, anyone who is not experiencing this - what is the trick?
Or will we see this addrerssed at all, but so far loads of updated firmware and still this problem exists with me.
You can't have everything at a time dude. Give up good back up if you need Push, or give up push to have the opposite
I'm having the same issue. Give up the Push? Come on now. As far as i understand we paid big bucks for this phone and want all the features to work properly. This is stock option and a must for everyone, how good is the phone when you cant have push email in this day and age. This is first android (SGS2) i'm having 2nd thoughts about samsung.

Sorry, but that's completely false.
I have exchange sync on PUSH and gmail on PUSH. Always had it on push, since my Nexus One.
Battery drain is very very minimal.
For example with my SGS2 running Cognition 1.31 I just got around almost 40 hours with light use. That's with Bluetooth and Wifi on for most of that time.
If your email push is eating the battery... try to reinstall the Email.apk to one of the other ones floating around here (for example I use one from 2.3.4 with exchange security bypassed). No battery drain that I'd ever notice, and I get decent amount of emails through the day.
Remember that you have to reinstall by deleting/replacing Email.apk in system/apps (need root).
I've always hated the stock email client. Pony up for Moxier Mail. You'll definitely be glad you did. I have push scheduled for 10hours a day and I drop 2-3% an hour. An hour after I get off work it switches to manual poll. Also limit the number of folders you're pushing if that's possible in the mail app.

That sounds a little strange, since chrome mobile allows FB notifications. Regardless, maybe allowing FB notifications in chrome is at least a possible temporary work-around.

I had Facebook on my both my nexii at the time, tablet and phone. on my tablet, it was never ever opened. on my phone, it used between 15-25% most he time, with very little use. on my tablet, for months it used 15-40% battery, again never ever opened nor set up. and I have family and friends that have Facebook installed, people who refuse to remove it. so I see how Facebook goes, first hand. I'm more than happy using their website.

notifications are a big part of it, but even just having it installed has made my devices run like a gimped weasel....it's a severe resource hog, and removing the app immediately clears things up. There is no way to deny it's the root of the problem when you see this happen on device after device, over the course of 5 years as an android user....sorry, but you are never going to convince me the app isn't the ultimate source of many many issues on peoples' devices.

Always has been a bad battery drainer. No idea why but one would think they would have had it rewritten by now. I despise FB and been far happier since leaving them anyway.
Hm... Removing Facebook app saves 20% of Android battery life but the REAL battery saver to do is delete facebook all together & get back 90% of your life. Think how much battery you'll save not staring at your phone for 6+hrs.
I don't have battery issues with the Facebook app, but I stopped its background sync, and I also don't have messenger installed. In general, social media apps are the worst battery abusers as they typically sync in the background a lot by default.

It looks to be true. I uninstalled the Facebook app and from the day 1 my SOT has exceeded 5 hours on daily bases. Before, with the FB app installed I would usually get something like 3 to 3 and a half hours of SOT.
Now I just use FB on Chrome and it looks good.
Oh and yeah, the N6 rooks
If you look at a logcat with FB installed it will show you the drain. It is one of the worst coded apps available
