Galaxy S EU i9000 work on AWS - Galaxy S I9000 General

I am on T-Mobile netwok for some months and noticed that I was always on Edge, so I want to use the 3G network.
The only solution is to change my hardware? or there is another way to do so?

Sell your Euro i9000 and buy the Nexus S

So you suggest I can go out now and buy Nexus S, give me the link... Are you willing to pay for i9000 what Nexus S costs?

The only difference is the 3G Quadband? I will have the same firmwares I have from my i9000?

The hardware is different. The i9000 does not support the AWS bands.
Only one that does, is the vibrant.
You're giving up a camera you'll probably never use, or you're stuck with edge.
Easy choice.

Thank you for the help.. or change providers...
But CDMA providers like Sprint are out of the question, right? Only AT&T?

I think it's more like $150-$200 difference without a contract.
With the Galaxy S you get a front-facing camera, as well as an unlocked phone without carrier logos plastered on the front - which alone might be worth it to many.
I also much prefer the large middle button on the Galaxy S, than the 4-button array on the carrier phones.
I understand the front facing camera and I much prefer the design of the I9000 but if I buy Captivate it will be with 2yr contract and I don't know if it is enough to justify the extra cash especially if I cannot upgrade to iPhone 4 and sell for profit.
If my Samsung Captivate is rooted the software on both devices will be the same correct?

Do you live in an area with 1900mhz 3g coverage? If not, you will be able to use only edge with the i9000.
I bought the SGS for AT&T because of the front camera, no AT&T tampering, and I prefer the SGS look over the Captivate. Also, I don't live anywhere near 3g, so I'm okay with just edge. But it did cost me an arm and a leg.
Is there a map where I can see 850 mhz v 1900 mhz I found one but it is old
A map would be great.
In my part of Los Angeles, I get 3G/H on AT&T probably 70% of the time, the rest is E.
well I decided to purchase the Samsung Captivate, but would still like a map in case I decide to switch within 30 days
It might also be possible for you to get the dumb phone data plan if you have an international version of the Galaxy S because AT&T probably wouldn't have their IMEI numbers... But then again, I'm not 100% sure on how they do their sweeps so dont quote me on this
Afaik you won't be able to use custom roms, becouse of diffrences that captivate has. So yes its worth to pay more...

where would one buy the unlocked international version?
Does it have all the features that are missing in different versions of this phone? Such as camera flash, front camera etc?
Bell Canada is getting this phone, but it won't have flash. Not sure what other differences it will have.

Is there a version of this phone that has all the features? Sounds like the Bell Canada one will be the same as the international one.
Most importantly, the international model is 900/2100 mhz only while at&t is 850/2100 mhz. So big difference in radios

I'm quite sure they'll find them-self most of their own clientèle using a Galaxy S will end up being the i9000m from their rival Bell
LOL
wonder if upload speed will be disabled like att model
also wonder why they didnt pick up the i9000m (better phone) like the bell version?

Yep, the big 3 tel companies pretty much have the market all to themselves thanks to the CRTC. No competition = crap deals for the consumer.

You have no freaking idea buddy. A few years ago we were paying activation fees which I believe were around $7. On top of that we have to pay for voice mail and caller ID, a package which you can get for $10-15 and which I believe is already included in US plans. Plus they make you pay to use tethering if you don't have a plan that's > 500MB and you also have to pay for the use of the front facing camera.
Basically the big 3 (Bell, Telus and Rogers) are huge shysters.
Edit: I think my old plan came out to around $50 for 350min + national 10 + VM and CID. That's a Telus plan with system activation fee and all that crap.
Well, I've already got an unlocked Bell Vibrant running on Rogers. Granted, buying it out right was kinda painful but I'd rather get the better hardware.
As for pricing, Rogers does have terrible pricing unless you've been with them for a while. Side note, if you're signing up with Rogers or upgrading, you have until September 30th to get 6GB data as a $30 add-on. The deal also applies to Fido.
why do you guys prefer bells i9000's over the captivate?
I've been waiting for months now for rogers to get the captivate.

you don't need to go to Bell to get the I9000M
you can unlock I9000M and use it with Rogers / Fido / Telus
i'm using it with Fido

the Captivate is crippled, the Vibrant is full feature just like the UK version I9000

I don't care about video calling at all, I can't think of a single time I would use that.
I would't drop $500 on a phone just to have it feel cheap, and have everyone walk up to me saying "is that the new iphone?"
LMAO it happens to me all the time, "wow is that new iphone" then i point to the big silver samsung logo and they are like "OMG what phone is that!"
is not having the front facing camera the only difference?
can the bell version (i9000M) still flash the i9000 firmware from the US models?
I believe the captivate is also missing fm radio, not sure though.

no we know it is a phone related thing i read some of the threads on it when i was thinking of getting one.. they worked around it with alternate kernels from i9000 but then the rotation and buttons were hosed up.. dont remember if they ever totally worked around it.. i think maybe with a custom kernel
wow! that explains a lot why the I9000M version is so popular down in the south
knowing Rogers they will have Samsung Lock down the phone so its hard to do anything with.. like root. try different roms.

I9000 With 850MHZ 3G

What I9000 models have 850 3g?
I know the I9000m does but what others?
i9000b and i9000t both 8gb internal instead of the 16 of the i9000m but both known to not have flash problems like the i9000m..
i picked up an i9000t at newegg. after sending in my i9000m for repair.. but they seem to be out of stock now..
expansys-usa.com has some of the i9000t in stock
yeah man, go with the i9000t, it's way safer!
newegg is back in stock and price lowered to 584.. can get 8% back from fat wallet also, and an extra 10 off for opening a perfered acct.
just reading about the different i9000 models available, how do i know what one i have? it says on the box GT-I9000
Thanks Guys,
This is a thread for people in the usa who want a unit with the correct radio in it.
As for me.
I have a ATT Captivate and i9000 base roms with the kernel (19000 Kernel) edited to work run better on the Captivate.

they are way over charging, the phone should be less than street, price, yet they cost so much more, and you still have to add TAX + Shipping on top of it.

I had no idea there were unbranded unlocked galaxy s phones with the 850mhz wcdma 3g band. The international galaxy s came with 900/1900/2100 3g bands which has the 1900 3g band for at&t.

diffrence between this and the i9000 galaxy S?

hey guys
just wondering what the diffrence is between the galaxy S fascinate and the galaxy S i9000 is?
i cant find any direct comparisons.
can anyone please help me?
The i9000 is a GSM phone. Fascinate is a CDMA phone.
The i9000 also has an FM radio, we don't

i dont care for radios so no big deal there
i9000 has a Front-Facing camera I believe.
From a bit of research (i.e. Googling ) it would appear that Australia's CDMA network was shut down in 2008, and the GSM network became the only option. A CDMA-only phone won't work on a GSM network, and vice-versa. There are a few phones that support both CDMA and GSM (such as the Droid 2 Global), but most only support one or the other. It would appear that the Fascinate would be pretty much useless in Australia, although the i9000 should work fine if it uses the same set of frequencies as they use there.

The Fascinate is a CDMA phone. In the US, it's sold on Verizon Wireless. It has 384 MB of RAM in exchange for larger internal storage and camera flash. The Epic is a CDMA phone. It's arguably the best out of all of the US variants. It has a slide-out keyboard and six-axis accelerometer and Front-Facing camera and 5MP camera with single-LED flash. It's sold on Sprint. The Vibrant is closes to the original i9000. It's basically the same except that it has no front-facing camera (although the space to add one is still there) and it has 4 capacitive buttons on the front instead of the original 2. It's GSM. The Captivate is the same as the Vibrant except it's sold on AT&T and, by default, can't sideload applications because of AT&T's stupid restrictions.
The only differences are as many before me have said : Its a CDMA phone, It lacks a front facing camera, and It doesn't have the same amount of internal storage as the i9000 (we do still have 512 megs of RAM, the system only makes 3 something available to android like with all of the S variants). In your situation though it sounds like you'd be better off with an i909. Its basically the 9000 with both CDMA and GSM support but its only for the Chinese market so it may be a bit hard to come across (Ive been hunting for one for the longest myslf to no avail)
What about the Samsung Captivate?
If i got one of them would i be going from good to worse if i sell my Galaxy S i9000?
Really want a NextG and can get a Captivate for $599 ( NextG version )
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Samsung had a gsm model on the market. Isn't that what TelUs in Canada uses?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
CDMA only works in the US. GSM is global. So don't worry about the features. make sure the device works on your network FIRST
If it's being sold in Aus it's probably the Telus Fascinate. OP, is the model # T959D (Telus) or i500 (Verizon)?
Both the Telus Fascinate and the AT&T/Rogers Captivate are GSM phones with the 850 band used for 3g down under. Only the Telus has HSUPA, though, so it may be slightly faster.

Not true. CDMA is in the US, Canada, and several countries around the world including Japan and even Australia, up until 2008.
However, with CDMA, there is no SIM card to switch and it's a ***** to switch networks and take your phone with you unless the new network doesn't care if you bring outside phones.
ok just called them up and its the TelUS version, so its the GSM version, and NextG will work
fascinate a good pick then after i sell my i9000?
also, they are trying to tell me this phone now

You can unlock it yourself. There are apps on and off the market that will do it for you. Also, the T-Mobile version supports both T-Mobile's and AT&T's 3G frequencies.
