According to PhoneArea a Verizon spokeswomen has confirmed that they will be launching the Samsung Galaxy S II sometime next month.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-confirmed-for-July-touch-down-at-Verizon_id19421
I'm sure AT&T will probably release it around the same time (if not sooner).
This is shocking...
"Although the phone will not be enabled for the LTE 4G network, it probably won't matter to potential buyers as the device has already proven itself to be speedy over 3G pipelines."
What's the purpose of launching a state-of-the-art phone that doesn't run on your state-of-the-art network? Hell, with EVDO, it'll be the slowest of the three U.S. SGS2 variants assuming it's Wi-Max on Sprint and 4G and/or LTE on AT&T. Why carry the phone at all?
Oh well, I don't even have 4G coverage here. By the time I do, I'll probably already be getting a new phone.
Also while I don't put much stock what an email from a Verizon spokesperson says, at least Verizon acknowledges the phone and it will at least come out eventually. I hope it really does come out in July though.
At least it will work on ATT's fake 4G HSPA+.
To work on Verizon's LTE would require a big redesign.

I thought it was supposed to be AT&T's first LTE phone? I read that online somewhere but can't find it now. AT&T was also supposed to be the first to launch so maybe the hold up is getting the LTE radio working. AT&T's LTE network is supposed to light up in a couple of weeks and they still have nothing that can run on it. Yet they're introducing a slew of high-end devices that work on a network that's outdated. Strange.
P.S. - Now that I think about it, it may be the combination of CDMA and LTE that prompted VZW and Samsung to skip LTE. That will still be strange though if Sprint's variant ends up being CDMA/Wi-Max.

Adding the LTE radio and chipset would probably require redesigning the phone. The current LTE phones are really big and thick.

Bad for AT&T but good for all of us who imported a non-branded SGS2. I assumed that AT&T's LTE version was going to make our phones (at least in the U.S.) outdated. If it ends of being the same phone with AT&T "enhancements" it makes our decision (and the price) worthwhile.
Excuse my ignorance, but what are the chances of the carriers making the phone better? I don't know how, just asking.
I don't know if i should just wait to see the differences with the ATT version or just buy the unlocked one now

Very close to zero. They will just add bloatware.
The only good thing is the subsidized price.

You guys need to realize JUST how hard it is to design and properly tune for LTE bands. I work in antenna design, and I can tell you it takes quite a bit to tune the noise down on the LTE frequencies. Add that to the fact that antenna real estate is already extremely tight in an ultra thin device like the SGSII (especially when taking GSM, WIFI, bluetooth, and GPS into account), the only way to get LTE in would be to have one/several of the other bands to suffer AND/OR make the device much, much thicker.
Until active antenna solutions are more readily available, this will continue to be a problem with passive antenna design, especially with small form factor devices like mobile phones.

Update: Sure enough, Mobilicity is also onboard, which along with Wind Mobile makes it pretty clear that T-Mobile-friendly AWS frequencies are baked in.
We pretty much knew it is coming to the states. The question is when. Hopefully not much will be changed.

Yup. The real question is the US gonna get the nerfed version. I want no part of that.
So is it going to be like the Galaxy Nexus where you could buy the Canadian version which was the same phone.. Will the Canadian phone be same but with the 1700 band or will there b differences?
---
To each their own.
I have not read anywhere that the international version, i9300, is a pentaband HSDPA phone. Also, GSMArena has it listed as a quad band so it will not work on T-Mobiles 4G network. It looks like if/when it does come to T-Mo, it will need to be a customized version.
Prob a customized Canadian version...
The good news is that Tmo users do not need to wait another 6 months till the SGS III comes out in Tmo
Any idea on whether this will have the same processor as the international version?
I'm betting it will have a s4 processor. I hope I'm wrong....

Mobilicity doesn't have LTE. we just have wait and see, what they do to the phone.
This just means a custom aws version will also be released. Doesn't look like the international version has T-Mobile hspa. So it will probably not come with the exynos CPU etc.

what's wrong with the S4 Qualcomn?
it;s as beefy as any of the new SOC, even faster than the nVidia Tegra
I personally would like the GSM NA variants to be as close to the international version as possible. Mostly because of the ease of porting custom ROMs. And I really do like my GT-I9100's physical home button. Hope that makes it over, but I doubt it (the NA models never had it, so getting one on the GS3 will break the design/UI continuity).
so how does one go about getting Mobilicity or wind mobile's gs3? bestbuy.ca doesnt ship outside of Canada. some carrier's website dont let you buy phone @ full price.

is it possible to change the antenna on the sgs3 to make it compatible with tmo's lte?
Are the antenas in the back coverpiece? If so, I'd imagine it's possible.
Pretty sure it has more to do with what bandwidth the radio chip will support. TMO decided to go with an LTE deployment that the S3 can't/won't broadcast & receive on.

i got 2 questions...
1 - do you think that you can change the antenna on the s3 for tmo's LTE compatibility?
2 - do you think that samsung will sell nother version of the s3 to make it compatible for tmo's LTE?

haha they say there are no dumb questions but...
The AT&T version has support for LTE in the AWS band, technically making it compatible with T-Mobile's future LTE. However, AWS HSPA+ support is either disabled or impossible, so you'd be stuck on 2G for the time being, except in the areas where PCS refarming has already begun. I'm also not sure that the LTE radio is unlocked for anything but AT&T, even with another SIM, but who knows.

I'm using an ATT Note 2 and I want to upgrade, mainly because of the better RAM and ROM. But I'm confused by the choices and Knox and locking and all that.
I am going too want to root my phone for sure, and unlock to use on different providers.
Not to worried about the cost.
What's the very best version out there, in your opinion?

Since the LTE bands tend to be very different from one provider to another the differences are only relevant once you know who is your carrier - so you should probably look / ask in the OTHER Note 3 forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-tmobile
Also see this to get a start on the matter of portability (or almost complete lack thereof) among those:

Thanks. When I mean I will want to use the phone on 'other providers,' I really just mean the GSM-based ones like ATT/T-mo and overseas carriers. I understand that Tmo and ATT use different LTE bands, just hoping that there's at least one unlocked and rootable model that covers both sets of LTE bands.

Actually, the ATT and TMOBILE gnote3 cover each others LTE bands too. Infact, after unlocking your tmobile gnote3, achieving LTE on ATT should be as easy as popping in a sim card.
I think your choice would be between ATT and Tmo and I believe both can be rooted without tripping Knox. Even thought Tmo supposed to have unlocked bootloader, they use ATT rooted ROMs (since the name delavega root). Personally I would stick with the carrier: Tmo phone will give you Wifi calling, but only on Tmo network, so you can call home for free from anywhere in the world over WiFi. ATT is just beginning to test voice over LTE, no other US carrier has yet. And if you have call issues, are you going to call t-mo complaining their phone doesn't work well on ATT network, or you going to call ATT, that their network signal sucks with T-mo phone? And for example it would be difficult to buy new T-mo phone without at least some temporary t-mo service.

I do not have a lot of experience on the US market but my last link seems to suggest that the TMo version is 100% compatible with ATT LTE (and the other way around), so generally (given the much bigger bootloader freedom on TMo vs ATT) I would say that TMo Note 3 should be a good choice. It will also work on ATT up to the full 4G and worldwide for voice over normal GSM, maybe 3G in many places. Also that last link suggests that once you unlock it (which is IMHO rather inexpensive and worth it) you will be able to use (almost) any GSM SIM in the world.
always go for exynos. it's samsung's in house processor and free from all the carrier bull**** that marginalize the great smartphone experience and you get all the coverage and bands that you will need. ****ing sick of this 1% bull****!!
always choose exynos. if you choose the snapdragon, you made a dumb decision
You can't get the exnyos in the US. Even if you order it from Amazon or eBay you don't have warranty and you have to pay full price. Not to mention the that exnyos chip doesn't run games smoothly.

ah, **** there's always a catch!!
Just get whichever region you're from. No point importing a specific SOC, and then risk not having local warranties.
people often ask, why people write crap on the internet - now I know!!
Also half the major us carriers straight up dont work on the exynos.
That being said, if i purchase another samsung device it will be one with an unlocked bootloader. Whether exynos, or a snapdragon from hongkong/china, i dont know. But unlocked or bust
i dont get it, the s6 worked perfectly in the us, and still has great preformance due to the exynos chip, but now we are stuck with the slow 835 on some devices, and samsung wont make a much faster chip just for EU. thanks i guess

Details? I my research into bands showed that AT&T should work just fine except for band 30 which isn't a big deal since it's so new and limited deployment, by the time I see it in my area I'll probably be on a new phone.
I'm not a big gamer - clash royale runs fine on my Exynos S8 and VERY cool too. My Snapdragon S7 got hot as heck with clash royale. Battery life on the Exynos S8 is great from my experience.

Half the major us carriers use cdma. Exynos phones do not support cdma at all. At least one major us carrier possesses no gsm frequencies whatsoever, so you can not just use lte only as there is no way to register on the network without a cdma radio. You might be able to use vzw as they are pushing lte hard and i think have a way to register without cdma, but they also lock down what phones they allow on their network, so you may find they just say no altogether
