Att tab sideload question - Galaxy Tab General

Whats the best way to break the att sideload block? Will z4root cure this or are further steps required?

My Captivate days are fuzzy (July was a long time ago), but you can edit db file on the device to allow it, once you're rooted. Go dig around in the Captivate forums for more info, pretty sure that will apply to the AT&T Tab as well.

[Q] Rooted new tab. where to now?

I just rooted my vzw tab and i was wondering what i have to do to put a recovery or such to install custom roms, and what is the fastest rom for the vzw tab.
Look for verizon tab bootstrapper in the market (paid), it worked for me. As far as roms in my tab I flashed the only kernel available for vrz tab. Got 1711 result in quadrant.

and this does what? sorry for the noob question but i have searched the threads and the dev section is way too out of whack to find ANYTHING useful. and I don't have money I'm poor. I saw the manual way to do what the market app does but the links provided are dead.
The kernel only makes the tab be more responsive, faster. Download quadrant from market and compare your results with mine. As far as recovery I paid for the app because it did not involved any instructions typing. The bootstrapper converts your system to ext4 and you need this to put new rom or kernel in the tab.

I'm still confused. I don't want to use the bootstrapper because a lot of people said that it bricked their tabs. what do I do to put on a recovery, flash roms, and create backups
Brick is a relative term. If the tab gets turned off and I don't know where the power button is and I can't get it back on, then relatively speaking it is a brick to me...sadly a lot of times there is a very simple way to get past a "brick" state, but then the person does something rash like flashing a random rom with repartition and now have made it much more difficult for themselves to dig out of the hole they are in.
There are a lot of people getting stuck at the samsung logo on reboot...there is good information out there to get past this, and by now it is an expected result, but that doesn't stop someone from freaking out and doing something they shouldn't.
Look for cruiserbax instruction post in the CwM thread...its right around page 49.

thanks for pointing me to that post. now I have CWM 3.0.0.0 installed. Now does anyone know of a great starter ROM that i can flash right from recovery that is real speedy? my quadrant scores are crap(1030) even on ext4.

VZW Galaxy Tab questions

I have had the orig. Droid, the incredible, and now use the fascinate as my primary phone. I got the vzw tab in December and am shocked at how little dev there is for it. Do any of you see this picking up, or is the tab now just old news? I have not yet put any custom roms on it. (Still a little confused, and it doesnt look like there is much out there for verizon).
Does the bootstrapper app for 2 bucks work? The reviews are so mixed?
Anyone here think 3.0 will ever be ported?

I have a verizon tab and the bootstrapper worked great for me. I flashed boushh kernel and now the tab is much faster. Just make sure you have all the verizon stock software before you flash in case something goes wrong.

how do you flash verizon tab.. i want to make 2.3. thanks
yeah there never really was a lot of dev for the VZW galaxy tab, but those few that are doing it are making things a lot better for the rest of us, and we appreciate all hte work they have done!

My Verizon Mobile App just asked for superuser permission

Updated today, 4/8/2014
I tried to make a phone call and My Verizon Mobile asked for superuser permission. I denied it.
What is going on?
Same here. I didn't grant, and SuperSU timed out. Mildly disconcerting to say the least.

This is why I root and immediately remove anything Verizon related, I don't trust any of their apps.
Why Might this App Need SU Permissions?

Me too!! I updated it April 8, 2014 and immediately after the update I got a request for SuperSu privileges. I’ve been with Verizon since the beginning and I love their coverage but I’m seriously considering another carrier. With locked bootloaders, their refusal to allow certain unlocked phones on their network, (Nexus 5, Many versions of Galaxy Sx, and the list goes on) and now this! Not to mention their egregious disregard of the Privacy Act of 1974 while collecting data for God knows who,(I’m sure the list is longer than we know). Of course I may be being cynical as I don’t know the reason for the SU request, but this app thus far, has served its function well without any SU permissions. I’d love to see some informed speculations on why this app is doing this.
I haven't gotten this, but I haven't updated. I'm running a custom ROM. Are you guys using stock? There is an Xposed Module called Root Cloak that you can hide root access from certain apps.
It's possible that this is a way for Verizon to see that your phone is rooted so that they can screw you over on any warranties.

Galaxy Note 2 guy here with a mostly-stock ROM going on.
Same here, and it appears to be this way across the board for users.
I gotta make sure my girlfriend doesn't click 'Grant' on her S4. Could be bad news bears.
I'm using root cloak and it still found it.

I’m using a custom ROM and got the SU Permission request right after I updated My Verizon Mobil or I may have launched the app. I’m on a Verizon Galaxy S3 I-535 with … Alliance ROM Build 22. I change ROMs sometimes but this is the first ROM with this updated version My Verizon Mobil.
Verizon has waged war on all the rooted users!!!! If Ask Root user violation = true, lol. They're cutting into the ad revenue! No more forced adware, profits decreasing! Must force adware on users who buy their own phones!
Froze that puppy as soon as I saw the update. Not so lazy that I can't use a browser to get the same info.

I think we can safely say that Verizon doing this is not going to be something in your best interest. Probably nothing will happen now but I imagine they could use this in the future to single out rooted users. Big companies move slow, but almost always one can assume moves like this will only be a negative for us rooted users.

You can go into the superuser app and block the permissions you previously gave.
Taken from a comment from http://www.droid-life.com/2014/04/0...with-3-widgets-randomly-asks-for-root-access/
TL;DR/WTF - Its checking for root by trying to execute ls as root. Its also pulling build information, debugging, model, and more
Mine did the same thing. Granted SU permision. The way I see it is I payed full retail off contract and do not carry warrantee so it don't matter lol
Galaxy Note 3 Stock Rooted Xposed
Galaxy Gear Rooted Null Rom
Suck It Nerds!
I decided I don't need the convenience of this app. Did a clean install of Alliance ROM and did not include My Verizon or any Verizon apps in the selectable options during Aroma installation. Thanks Beans for an extremely customizable ROM!

That is the code which was in the comments of that article. It does look like it is gathering rooted status as part of all your phone's info to send back to Verizon.
Whether hitting deny makes it return "NO" or not is confusing because I tried the command in the terminal emulator and when you deny root it does not return "permission denied" which is what it looks like is required to set rooted to NO. When I run the command and deny root it just gives no response.

This happened on my Galaxy S4 today. I denied it the first time it popped up, then a couple hours later I went to hang up after talking to my wife and the popup was there again - and it just so happened that "Allow" is right where the End Call button is! I noticed it right as I hit the button. Not happy.

[Q] Advice on how to Proceed with my AT&T S5

Hi Everyone!
I just got a Samsung Galaxy S5 (4.4.2) this weekend and was excited to start using it. I was disappointed with all the "bloatware" that AT&T decided to load onto the phone. I decided to root it and get rid of what I wanted, however I was disappointed to learn that there was no file available for my version of the S5 for CF-Auto-Root. So I would like some advice on how to proceed!
1) What options are available to me for in terms of gaining additional access (i.e. rooting / jailbreaking)
2) My work email requires encryption on the device. I was unable to root my old phone (S3) because the encryption interfered with the process and actually there was really no way to reverse the encryption! I can't delay accessing my work email indefinitely, how long before a root option become available? Should I wait?
3) ATT put something called "My Magazine" where the google now pane should be (left of the home screen). Will rooting the device allow me to put google now there instead of leaving it blank by disabling "My Magazine"
Thanks for reading and any feedback would be appreciated!
-Frozen
For some reason AT&T has no development threads. I'm curious as to know why.

Att and Verizon don't have root yet. It's a waiting game for it with no eta. There is a direct forum here, it's at&t Samsung galaxy s5.

Haha that sucks.

AT&T and Verizon have a locked bootloader, so it's going to be a long time before root. There is like a $17,000+ bounty for the first developer to achieve it for the S5.
My honest opinion, get rid of AT&T if you are serious about development, or you can get some unlocked phones that work on AT&Ts network.

Thank you for the informative reply! That clears up point #1 for me.
Do you (or anyone) have any advice about my encryption question (point #2)?
If its a long wait and I decide to use the encryption to check my work email. Will it be able to be reversed later?
Thanks,
Frozen

After root, where are my Sprint apps?

I bought my Galaxy S7 Edge a week ago and rooted immediately. I just noticed today that I actually don't have ANY Sprint apps on my phone. This is a mixed blessing... most of them are bloat but some I'd like to have, such as Voicemail (I have no voicemail app right now) and maybe SprintZone.
Is this normal for root users? Or was this because I didn't go through all the setups prior to rooting my phone?
Is there a way to get the apps I need back (or get them from Sprint)? Sprint's website wasn't helpful in getting an answer... and I would search more here on XDA but their search is down right now.

I need Voicemail. I probably want SprintZone. If I even knew what was supposed to come with the phone I may want one or two others, but the voicemail is the biggie.
I'd also like to know if my immediate root played a role in not getting the Sprint apps... for future reference.
Wait. I just "found" Voicemail... it was disabled. Several other apps are disabled, too.
I think I'm alright for a bit until I can figure out what I'm doing.
Most of sprints app are NOT in the play store but baked in the actually stock rom. You'll have to search around for the apk's if you can't find them on your rooted phone.

Many of Sprint's apps are downloaded as part of the activation process, so if you didn't go through that process, it would explain why you don't have them.
