Hello,
I just got my Verizon Note 3 a few weeks ago. I am trying to install Cyanogenmod and I'm having problems.
I rooted my phone and I currently have Android version 4.3 and my build number is MJE.
When I go to flash a new recovery so I can get into the bootloader my phone resets and I get this message "System software not authorized by Verizon wireless has been found on your phone. please go to the nearest Verizon wireless store for help"
What can I do? I have tried this several times. I am pissed because I own my phone/compute "my phone is a computer" and I want to do what ever I want with it. The whole point why I jumped from the iPhone was I wanted the freedom of doing what ever I want with my android device.
Help please,
Thanks!

Unless you have the Dev Edition Note 3, you cannot flash a custom recovery and bootloader to retail Verizon Note 3. You have to do some research before you flash in Android world. You can try Odin with MJE image and that get you back. FYI you might have tripped knox.

So with my Verizon Note 3 there is no way to load a custom ROM? I'm stuck with retail software? I already have MJE loaded on my phone. MJE was already there when I bought it.

You first need to flash SafeStrap. Find it in the Android Development section. Then you can flash any of the TouchWiz based custom ROMs that you see there. Only thing you can't do is flash a custom recovery, and a custom kernel (hence you can not flash CM11).
This is why you should have bought a Developer Addition. Go here and read, this should help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543386 or here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483380

I have no idea what you are talking about. I started my post from my computer. Just because I am having problems does not mean my phone is bricked. I am replying with my phone now.
@bld you will need to Odin back to stock and then reroot. After rerooting you will need to install SafeStrap. It is based on TWRP and keeps your stock system safe while you flash away in other slots that you created. Unfortunately you are restricted to MJE based TW ROMs. Cannot flash CM11 via SS. There are a bunch of posts about how to recover and install SS. Hope this helps you out some.

Ok, let me make sure I understand all of this correctly...
Because I have the Verizon version of the Note 3 I can NOT install cyanogenmod even though Verizon is listed
The main reason for getting a custom OS is this. I HATE bloatware that I can't uninstall. I HATE how Verizon is blocking google wallet. I really want to use google wallet but I can't because Verizon wants you to use ISIS and that means signing up for their debit card. Google wallet lets you use any card but ISIS requires you to use theirs.
Thank you for the help guys...

What OS did you install with? How can I know what version of the phone I'm getting? Will it list it being a DEV version?
I installed it on 4.3 and yes on the inside battery cover it will say developers edition. But unless you bought directly from Sammy unlikely you will receive a dev edition. When I did an exchange on my Note 2 back in the day I manage to get a Dev edition as a repacement. Not sure if they were supposed to send it or was just lucky. Also I believe the Dev edition note 3 runs a different base and kernel version.

You can only buy a new Developer Edition directly from Samsung($700). However, they are on backorder, and only become available infrequently. Or keep an eye on eBay and Swappa.com(about $750 typically). They will show up there, once in a while.

Ask for a replacement? What in the world are you speaking of? No replacement will be Dev Edition, unless you have a fluke occurance like the other person did (which won't happen). You WILL get laughed at asking for a Dev Edition (and/or they won't even know what the hell you're talking about). You HAVE to buy Dev Edition directly from Samsung, or one privately from a person who bought it from Samsung. And I'm pretty sure you wouldn't even get a "replacement" of a retail edition.... If there's nothing functionally wrong with your phone, nobody is going to replace anything.
You'd know if you had Dev Edition because you'd pay an arm and a leg for it, as stated before (700 plus tax from Sammy, or 750-1000 on swappa/ebay).
The CM thread says it supports VZW because it supports Verizon Dev Edition, that is all. Not retail.
My Note 3 Dev Edition did NOT say Dev Edition on the battery cover either..... don't know that anyone's does... Only says it on the box, and in download mode info.
I feel like my head wants to explode right now.....

Ran a software update check this morning on my Rogers Note3, after my friend mentioned he got KitKat on his Bell S4 on the weekend. Sure enough, 400+MB update was available.
Servers were slow (both my home Wi-Fi and LTE were getting the same speed. Took about an hour to download). Install went smoothly and only took 2-3 minutes. And KitKat it is.
I'm using Nova Launcher, so the only immediately visible change is that all the icons in the status bar are plain white. Otherwise, I perused through the system settings and didn't see much that was different beyond the addition of a "Printing" option under Connections > More networks, and the odd change here and there. However, things do feel smoother and basic stuff like unlocking the device has no lag at all.
Just a quick note, also available for Telus this morning...

Am wondering. I am rooted with knox 0x0 on 4.4.2 using the mexican telcel rom form a cpl months back and the old modem from 4.3 mj4.
I want to get latest KK from Rogers while maintaining root. SO I cant do an update this way. Is there a way to flash just the modem and sytem files form this update ot get me to latest version of things without wiping all my data?
I'm just wondering. Why is it because Bell and Rogers note 3 gets KitKat that at&t note 3 gets KitKat? Not trying to be a smartass or anything but does one of them own the other or something?

I'm not really sure what you mean?
Bell, Rogers and Telus all use the same versions of most phones as what AT&T in the U.S. offer, as their networks share the same spectrum ranges. So when the manufacturer of a phone (Samsung) releases an OS update for an AT&T model phone, all four companies then have access to that and can tweak that update and release it to their customers when they wish. Typically (though not always) that means that all of the companies release updates to their customers around roughly the same time.

I just wonder if they actually believe people use all or any of their bloatware. if their products were in a store it would be already marked down and discontinued.
I unrooted my Rogers Note 3 with Kingo and managed to download the update file on my device. Once I began the install it failed and rebooted. Any ideas?

Me too!! I updated it April 8, 2014 and immediately after the update I got a request for SuperSu privileges. I’ve been with Verizon since the beginning and I love their coverage but I’m seriously considering another carrier. With locked bootloaders, their refusal to allow certain unlocked phones on their network, (Nexus 5, Many versions of Galaxy Sx, and the list goes on) and now this! Not to mention their egregious disregard of the Privacy Act of 1974 while collecting data for God knows who,(I’m sure the list is longer than we know). Of course I may be being cynical as I don’t know the reason for the SU request, but this app thus far, has served its function well without any SU permissions. I’d love to see some informed speculations on why this app is doing this.
I haven't gotten this, but I haven't updated. I'm running a custom ROM. Are you guys using stock? There is an Xposed Module called Root Cloak that you can hide root access from certain apps.
It's possible that this is a way for Verizon to see that your phone is rooted so that they can screw you over on any warranties.

I’m using a custom ROM and got the SU Permission request right after I updated My Verizon Mobil or I may have launched the app. I’m on a Verizon Galaxy S3 I-535 with … Alliance ROM Build 22. I change ROMs sometimes but this is the first ROM with this updated version My Verizon Mobil.
Verizon has waged war on all the rooted users!!!! If Ask Root user violation = true, lol. They're cutting into the ad revenue! No more forced adware, profits decreasing! Must force adware on users who buy their own phones!

I think we can safely say that Verizon doing this is not going to be something in your best interest. Probably nothing will happen now but I imagine they could use this in the future to single out rooted users. Big companies move slow, but almost always one can assume moves like this will only be a negative for us rooted users.

That is the code which was in the comments of that article. It does look like it is gathering rooted status as part of all your phone's info to send back to Verizon.
Whether hitting deny makes it return "NO" or not is confusing because I tried the command in the terminal emulator and when you deny root it does not return "permission denied" which is what it looks like is required to set rooted to NO. When I run the command and deny root it just gives no response.

This happened on my Galaxy S4 today. I denied it the first time it popped up, then a couple hours later I went to hang up after talking to my wife and the popup was there again - and it just so happened that "Allow" is right where the End Call button is! I noticed it right as I hit the button. Not happy.

Yes, it's legit. The directions are all in the dev section.
BTW, this is only for unlocked bootloaders. ATT and VZW just move along....nothing to see here.
You need to flash twrp and a custom kernel and then download supersu from the play store. Enjoy.
You can oem unlock(boatloader unlock) the T-Mobile version in dev settings and when turning it on it gives notice that protection features will not work when turned on. So guessing that yes it does disable Knox. Also guessing the OP rooted using a common root method and unlocking the boatloader

Now that we have root are a lot of you going to root it? If so, why? I usually root my phones to tweak them to get the best battery life and performance with custom kernels and roms and apps like greenify. But the phone performs great and the battery life is great after debloating. I guess we'll have to see what the developers come up with but I'm loving life so far without root for the first time in a long time.

This is a huge disappointment for me. Can't really live without root and Xposed, but the GS7 was looking like my next phone. Hopefully something is figured out but im not too optimistic.

Is that true? Has anybody tried that?

Not recommended for locked bootloaders, of which all US carrier versions are
The root situation right now is pretty much in Samsung/Verizon's hands. Our Verizon variants have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, the only root or twrp solutions right now are for exynos. Not only that but our bootloader is locked (currently no official way to unlock like HTC dev equivalent or something) and even worse (for prospects of rooting that is), Samsung utilizes Qualcomms secure boot and dm-verity. So any unsigned images won't be accepted and even if they are, dm-verity would make it so that any changes on the /system partition would boot loop your device. Seems like the only way we'll get root is if Verizon presses on Samsung (like T-Mobile is rumored to be doing) to get some sort of HTC dev type unlock program going.
I had Note 4 on Verizon for a year since release and it never got root. Im pretty sure it's still unrootable device.
I'm guessing this will be the case here.
Maybe there are devs working on this to exploit our phone: http://www.engadget.com/2016/03/22/google-warns-of-android-root-exploit/
Unless this is what we just got the security patch for.

As I'm aware that doesn't apply to marshmallow

Correct, we have kernel 3.18.x so it's already patched for us.

I still have my note 4 to this day and there's still no perm root lol. the s7 isn't getting it. don't get your hopes up. plus if you wanna keep using samsung pay, you'll never be able to root. I've stopped caring honestly. no ads with samsung browser and an ad blocker is sweet. if i need mobile Hotspot on my unlimited plan, I'll pop my sim into my old LG g2.

Foxfi works great with unlimited on S7E.
I'm sure you can always root Verizon version of the GS7 but no doubt you won't be able to flash any rooms on the device (just like in the past). But touchwiz has been slimmed down and a hell of alot less bloatware. Even with my past Verizon phonestore I never really found the need for a new ROM (although it would have sped up the phones quite a bit) but I found that just having root access is perfect, especially now a day's with the higher specs and reliability of Samsung devices. I wonder if SuperSU or KingRoot will work, they are the best one step rooting process without a pc.

SuperSU isn't a rooting meathod that works without a custom recovery, so no it won't work.
KingRoot users specific vulnerabilities that have been patched, so no it won't work either.
Error will be impossible without finding a way to get rid of dm-verify, which the only way to do that right now is a repacked kernel, which is not flashable because secure boot prevents unsigned flashing.
