So this is just a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping maybe someone can help.
A few months ago, as I was walking out of a restaurant, someone was calling me, and just as I was pulling out my phone, some drunken idiot ran into my spilling his soda all over me and my phone. I quickly dried it off, got home and let it sit for the next day or so. When I turned it back on, it wouldn't read my sim, and there was a very dark spot left on my sim card. Then after some cleaning, magically it started working again.
About two weeks ago, the sim reader suddenly stopped working again. Everything else works perfectly fine, except for the reader. I've tried cleaning it, flashing new/old roms, and nothing. So I'm back to my Razor. Which sucks.
Does anyone know how to maybe replace, or clean a sim reader?
Thanks
The easiest thing would probably be to just get a new sim card. Most providers will give you a new one for free and transfer it to the new one your number without any hassle at all. It's definitely worth trying that before you try replacing the reader itself. If replacing it is what you want to do though, try the post by Dharvey about his MDA being dead and you'll find a link to the service manual. I believe there's also a link to the service manual in the wiki.
Thanx for the input. I actually tried someone else's sim card with no luck. I also just took my MDA apart, cleaned out a bit of the corrosion I found, and tried running it again with no luck. I'm beginning to think it's probably a circuit/resistor problem, which I know I wouldn't be able to fix with my electronics skills, so I think I'm going to sell it and get a Tytn II
Anyone interested in my phone for parts?

I had this problem once. Don't know if it is the same with your MDA, but you just have to move the simcard a little, so it's exactly in the middle of you simcardholder. If I moved it just a little to far up or down, it wouldn't read my simcard, but if I put it exactly in the middle, it always read it. Try it, this should work! I also thought my MDA is broken, but now it works again!
It might be worth testing with a multimeter if any components are not working properly. Also check the joints for dry solder spots, they reguarly happen.
Hello, sorry for my english, is not the best.
I've BIG problem with my P3300. originally it came with WM5, after some time I got update from official site for WM6. Had WM6 maybe for 4 months, everything was just perfect while one day my HTC started do funny things like go off it self (white screen when using navigation). It was a once in a week. After some time it started to be like this few times in a day. I thought what I need to do hard reset. Did. Didn't helped. Than I tried to flash my phone to WM6.1. Phone went mad, was constantly switching off it self, screen just freezes and after that you even can't start the phone around 5-10 min. it just want do anything, even if you plug in the charger, indicating orange light want come up. Than I tried to flash with original WM5. Did that, everything was fine for a day, but after the day it went off, i restarted, and than gone wireless and screen started move to the left and to the right aprox 2 mm. When is connected to computer it want connect to ActivSync, it's coming up message: Can't find IP address, try to disconnect phone and connect again... I did manual configurations in network cards and computer, so when you're looking in network connections looks everything fine, but it's still not recognized by ActiveSync :/ Than i send the phone to recovery mode, connected to the computer and updated to WM6. Same thing, screen shaking, wireless not working, goes off. Is strange thing too, in aprox 24 hr memory is filled up to maximum - than is coming up the message: Storage is full, please delete some programs. :/ Hard Reset have to do every single day... Any idea what's can be wrong with my phone? Tried already a lot of things, no more ideas. I think it's software problem... :/
If anyone have any ideas please share with me... Thanks for everyone.
Anyone any ideas? Please, someone... i don't really wanna put phone in to the bin...
Its a hardware isue
Sorry, I have same problems and try same thinks, finaly I send to service and they say its a commone hardware error on electrical micro connections inside cosed by droping the phone down. Before I send it hangs up 2-3 time at day, now its hapen 1 in 10 day if I accedentaly drop the phone
Hardware issue
I think this is hardware problem..., I have some experience with repair HTC smartphones. Freezing, restarting, problem with screen..., GSM etc,,..
In all cases helps Hot air soldering station, find right chip or module (gsm , proc..) and reheating this.. A frequent problem is BROKEN tin joints BGA chips , after impact of equipment. .. sorry for english...
I'm facing the same problem with my old Artemis.
Since I upgrades, I gave it to a friend. It was working perfectly fine months now, until last week.
The phone keeps freezing, doesn't always boot, many times won't even respond to charger pluged in.
Randomly resoldering the board's chips, sound like a long & hard solution :/
Hello everyone, well, I will explain my problem, The Wifi in my Titan used to work great, but as it is a little old, it have some hardware problems, actually the answer green button doesn't works, but I have no problem with it, the real problem is that the Wifi switch don't want to work anymore, I now it because after some days after it happened, I open the phone, turn it on, and try the switch, it only worked with a very big preassure, but now, after some days, it's fully dead, I have allready tried using the 10 Buttons Comm Manager, but when I click the Wifi won't work, there appears the dildo-like image in the top of the screen but only about 2 seconds, and then it just go and the Wifi is still of, so I'm asking for your help, what can I do? Thanks in advanced.
Ah, I was forgetting to tell you that here in Mexico there are no service for any HTC because it is not usual to see here one of these excelent phones.
You won't get wifi to work if the switch is broken in the off position. Your only option is to get a new one.
My wifi used to work great until I upgraded the phone to the MR2 update. When it restarted, it would do exactly as yours. I would turn the switch on and it would keep the wireless icon in the top of the screen with no connection to a wireless network. I tried to go back to MR1 update but to no avail. I took the phone to Verizon and they told me the wifi chip must have burned outduring the upgrade and that it was not their problem and would not replace the phone. I had to go through insurance and pay $50 to get another phone.

Same problem here. It seems to be more then just coincidence here. It cannot be that so many people are having the same problem at almost the same time experiencing the same symptoms.
We need to find out what is in common between all of us in order to find the solution.
I have searched in the past, with no luck, for instructions on how to dis-assemble the Mogul. Maybe the hardware switch can be replaced? (assuming you have the stomach for such things)

Disregard wrong post.
Well, finally after some research, without any results, I decided to work my self, so I disasembly the back of my Titan, rid of the useless swtich and build a bridge with a copper wire from the terminals and now it works perfectly!!
Of course the problem is that is it too dangerous and to be honest I don't recommend to do this, but if you try it, you will have to be prepared with a 10 buttons comm manager, because with every reboot, the wifi wil be turned on, I know that this is not a good solution, but here in Mexico there are not service for HTC.
So a few days ago, I left the US with my T-mobile G1, everything was working fine. I arrived at my destination popped in another sim card(not T-mobile). I turned the phone on and got an error on every single application that I had on the phone, everything from messages to camera to just about everything. So I decided to wipe my phone to factory specs and nothing. The error was still there.
So I replaced the image on my phone and now the error is gone, but the touchscreen still does not work.
I've searched just about everywhere I think and still nothing..
Does anybody have any ideas ?
Thanks,
could be a driver issue or hardware- hard to say without looking it over. I had a problem with my accelerometer and gps drivers, and even after multiple roms and unrooting/re-rooting it never would install. I sent it back to HTC and it came back with a message "reflashed"... (it was covered though, so it was a free fix minus the $5 shipping to get it there )
A few days ago, I bought an 8525 phone off my friend for $25. He told me that he only used the phone for a month, so it was practically brand new. I have been tinkering with it for the past couple days, using Wifi to download games and things, and it has been fine. The phone worked, texting worked, everything was perfect.
About two days ago, I accidentally dropped it about a foot onto wet asphalt. The battery fell out and the touch screen got a few drops on it, but I dried it all off, turned on the phone and tested everything; no problems from dropping it.
At some point later that night, the phone started having problems. It would randomly freeze every few minutes while in use, and I would have to take out the battery to reset it. Some buttons on the touch screen wouldn't respond at times, but then work later (the buttons next to volume, service and wifi or whatever). Then my texting and phone service stopped working. I couldn't get service anywhere that I walked, and the Settings button wouldn't work. I also tried to reconfigure the connection, but that didn't help.
I came home and found the phone I had previously, and I put the SIM card into it to see if that was the problem, which it is not. The old phone works fine with the SIM.
I don't know what the problem is, but there are a few things that may have caused it to happen:
-dropped it in rain
-plugged USB into a laptop that only turns on, but does nothing else
-maybe got virus from browsing internet on Wifi
-overheating (there was a point where the back was really hot after sitting on the USB)
-games/applications installed messing with system
Those are some examples of what I've done with the phone, but that's it.
Here is device info:
-Hermes 8525
-Windows Mobile 6 Pro
-CE OS 5.2.1948 (Build 18548.0.7.0)
-Processor: SC32442-400MHz
-ROM Version: Schap's 4.31
-ROM Date: 10/03/07
Sorry if I haven't provided enough information on the problem, I'm new to all of this stuff, but I hope somebody can help.
Actually, my problem has changed.
I attempted to put a new ROM on, and it seems I did something wrong. When I turn on my phone, it does the boot animation, and then the screen turns white and doesn't do anything else. I attempted to hard-reboot, but nothing happened.
I went into My Computer on my desktop, and the folder 'Mobile Device' showed up. I clicked inside of it, and apparently my entire OS is gone off the phone. How do I install a new OS?
I hope you had Hard SPL V7 installed or you will need to find your shipped stock rom.
If you did, great.
1. Format 2Gb or less sd card FAT32. Copy .nbh file of rom onto it and rename to hermimg.nbh.
2. Insert sd card into Hermes and boot into bootloader.
3. If you did everything right then follow onscreen instructions.
If you didn't & can't find your shipped stock rom, you are now the proud owner of a Hermes paperweight....
Instead of taking the battery out, there is a reset hole on the bottom near the IR port. Push in with your stylus.
I have the "No GSM" text showing up when I turn on the phone, and then it goes to the white screen. I tried to do the mtty.exe thing, but I couldn't figure out how to use the program.
I was going to try the fix that uses Visual Studio and Windows Embedded, but I'm pretty sure my phone doesn't have kitl (which I need to do that).
Most of the fixes suggested require using ActiveSync to connect to the phone, however, my ActiveSync doesn't connect. It knows the phone is there, but it can't connect, which disables me from updating the ROM.
When I attempt to flash a ROM, it says that the current ROM image on the phone is ' ' (just an empty space) and it asks if I want to update to the newer ROM image. It gets to the point where the progress bar appears on my phones screen, but as soon as it hits 1%, the whole thing fails and I get an error on the computer saying it could not connect.
Currently, I am attempting the method to fix the white screen by removing the battery for 20 minutes, and then I'm going to try the method that says to remove the battery and put it back in multiple times to fix the 'No GSM', but I'm pretty sure I messed the radio up.
@ultramag69 - I have an SD card, but I don't have a port or anything small enough on my computer to insert it. What should I do to do what you said?
Buy an adaptor, should only be a few bucks...
SD method is the easiest way to fix the problem BUT as was said earlier , you need Hard SPL V7 on your Hermes 1st.
You could also try putting your Hermes into bootloader, attaching it to the USB and flashing that way. Just make sure that "Allow USB Connections" has been unticked in Activesync on the PC.
At least you might be able to install Hard SPL V7 that way...
