hi guys.
i have a tytn II PDA.
i'm using it since 2-3 months and at the end i can says it is not comfortable at all.
microsoft has to work in the worse way it is possible every time.
not complete as a pda, totally uncomfortable as a telephone.
can u tell me if there are some roma or OS to replace the windows mobile 6 pre-installed?
i knew apple OS where the best one, is there something i can do in order to have a better pda instead of this microsoft trash one?
thank you.
Google Android?

thanks 4 the reply.
the site u linked is in duthc and i cannot understand some things.
looking around it seems android is still under development.
could you tell me something more?
tnx
No Other "fully functional" OS exists for the device.
just out of curiosity how long have you been using the device?
first month or so of using windows mobile is always tedious... but when you get used to it.. you wont want to go back (I got a nokia N95 and regretted it)

hi there.
i'm using the pda since 3 months.
by now i've quite stopped customizing it or "playing" with since i find win mobile set up quite messy.
i came from nokia smartphone series and found symbyan the best os for mobility ever.
fully customizable, fast, stable and above all build with "few clicks" philosopy.
with official win 6 rom, in order to reach a sub menu i have to dig into folders and tabs getting annoyed really fast.
start menu is almost not customizable, i cannot move links where i like, well they could have done a far better work insetad of that.
maybe changin rom passing to an unofficial one could give me some more satisfaction, but i'm not sure since the starting point is the same.
i hope i could explain myself at an understandable basic level ^^
sorry for my horrible english
bb.
Oh,now I get it. Phone people keep moaning about how Windows doesnt behave like symbian. Duuuh! Let go of your complete reliance on the d-pad(its a Symbian thing),you have a touch screen now,use it.

there are lots of things could have been projected better as iphone did, for example
WM6 in trouble ?
he, he, interesting post. I also spent a lot of time trying to simplify my phone interface. There are many great programs and tips on that forum. However, the first time I had an iPhone in my hands, I admitted its interface is 8 levels ahead of M$. Now, what we need is a fully customizable, fast and stable OS. Might be Android since HTC signed the partnership. Let's see. Anyway M$ got to react quickly otherwise they might be out of the game soon.

anyway, any hint to improve wm6?
i totally agree with you...
windows mobile is very complicated becuase it has all these extras that the average cell phone user will never even bother using....word, excel, ppt, etc. while business users thrive on these features.....
i am an average cell phone user but the only reason why i got the 8525 is because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot, but i wish the interface was as simple as a normal phone, maybe google android will fix this problem in the future =)
extra features do not make something complicated. complicated to you maybe. Very simple and easy in my opinion, besides, its near identical in operation and style to desktop windows, which everyone, even mac users are familiar with.
buying a hermes for just quick sms is like buying a a ferrari to get to the shops... should have bought a sidekick.
"because of the large qwerty keyboard so i can text a lot"
tests show that young fanatics could sms alot! faster then a good typist on a normal sized keyboard could type
they only one who could beat the young sms fanatics was freaky enthusiast old school telegraphs people
if a full keyboard was all the requirements then a nokia comunicator would prob be closer to fitting the need of a normal gsm user who just wanted a keyboard

Check out HTC home. you can add 8 programs to the quick launcher.
Or since you seem to be such a fan of the iPhone, why not install the iPhone interface for hermes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302739&highlight=iphone
or you can even look into the HTC touch interface.
I think thatif you look at thoes, they will help with your situaltion.
BTW, you should look in the TyTn/Kaiser forums for specific infomation to your phone. this one is for the older TyTn(8525).
Mate, go ahead and install Mobile 6! It is a lot better than the old WM5. Make sure you get a "cooked" version from this site, one with a built in HTC cube, HTC plugin etc. You will not fail to be impressed. Did I mention that you can use a 8 meg micro card for extra storage? Try doing that with an I-Phone!

Doesnt the iphone have 16 gigs
He meant 8 gigs of sdhc ram and if you factor in that you can have as many as you can afford then your software and music and video options are very near limitless

It's 2009 and the magician is kind of 'oldie'
there are phones that surpass it in performance.
I wonder, how many users are still there true to our ol'friend?
Still use mine.
Had it for 4 years. Never had a problem with it & still using the original battery.
Build quality was superb on this device, unlike the crunchy plastic Diamond/Touch Pro.
Only other HTC device to match build quality was the Kaiser.
I have recently sold my work Touch Pro & got my unused Orange Contract Kaiser out of it's box as the crunchy plastic fantastic Pro with it's useless front panel buttons were driving me nuts.
Long live the HTC Legends.

all the afternoon i wait for the Armstrong Linux to finish updating...
I have a 2nd hand one...
seems to be a tough bastard the magician, heh?
Mine is now used by my 9 year old son.
i sure would like to see linux on it for the vast amount of software available then...
I'm buyed second hand magician and I like it. The only problem is lack off wi-fi and non-working programs build for wm05/06.
I have Motorola MPx200 too.
I have bought it 8 monthes ago 100$ and now can't see myself whithout it

I have one 4 years old. Battery is giving problem now as the set resets at 37% of battery charge.
It is used by my wife now......

so there are still active Magician users...
I wonder how many would be interested in Linux on them?
and how good a linux could become on a mobile device?
maybe to start an other pool?
I still use it every day. 3 years old. No problems at all. I even don't want a new phone. In the beginning battery life was 4 days, now only 2. That is still more than today's devices. I will use it untill it breaks.
I have also used the latest Diamonds from my work but they cannot convince me. For navigation I have a few PNA's. The magician is only for PDA/Phone as it was designed to be. Rock Solid.
Cheers

not a hard thing to be ;-)
I'm also still using my Magician. And for months I was looking for a new WM fone. It isn't because my Magician is not good anymore, it's just I'd like to have one with a newer OS. I'm a tech-whore sometimes. But now as there is a WM6.1 rom for the Magician I don't see why I need a new "toy".
After more than 3 years of use, second battery and one case change (I dropped it, and it got terrible dents) it works fine for me. Actually I don't know if the battery I'm using is the original or the second one I bought, one of them died and they look identical.
So I guess I'll try the WM6 rom and get a case change for the 2nd time, 'cause I've dropped it again several times, and the batterycover doesn't fit as tight as it used to be anymore and it comes off from time to time causing my Magician to power off.
On ebay the whole 3-parts-case costs only 9 euros, including disassembly tool. 5 euros for a new touchscreen if needed and 15 euros for a 2500mA lipo battery on ebay. That's 30 euros for a "new fone", lots of fun and excitement changing the case myself, and my Magician serving me for 2 more years!
Hello!!!

You guys are failures. I think that pretty much sums it all up. Honestly i believe your going bankrupt in the next couple years, and i hope you do. People here at xda contribute roms (nearly perfect) for free . Keyword: free. While you guys refuse to even give us "Premium" Customers an upgrade to 6.5. Your customer service is simply pathetic, and the X1.5(X2) its going to fail, but hopefully it will sell good in Korea so you can give them SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 panel and Xtract 2 ( so inevitably we could use them) perhaps you should just make a special Korean version that shoots laser beams and is built from adamantanium. SE long story short I am disappointed in you, and so is everyone else with you. at least i think so.
That is all i have to say.
Please discuss or add on.
Amen brother! We are being treated like Second Class Customers even though we have spent as much money as any korean. It is wrong that we have been segregated in this way.
we bought premium device ,we got 3.class support (sometimes no support).
thanks xda for the support
come to think of it...almost all of us here bought X1 on the realease price compare to the price today...then the treatment is not fair...
maybe SE is a die-hard fan of the wonder girls in korea...
Korea
Not sure I understand the relevance to Korea, can someone full me in? Also, SPB Mobile Shell Panel 3.5, is there one?
Korea is treated a lot better than the rest of the world with updates and software, Also there is a SPB 3.5 shell available do a search oh if you meant panel im not sure but hope so
why is everyone complaining anything released in Korea can be found on the net and used on any region x1. the spb 3.0 panel works on any x1 and the xtrakt game was leaked long before the Korean version came out.
sony does not need to give a free 6.5 update on there year old product as they sold it with wm6.1 and never said or gave the impression that they would upgrade it.
if i buy a car and a year later they bring out a facelift model i dont get a free upgrade.
the only companies giving a free upgrade are samsung and htc, both said when they sold there phones that they would give a free upgrade.
also htc is not giving a free upgrade on the htc hd and that was released at the same time as the x1. they are only giving it on the products that was released a few months ago as a lot of people would have not bought them waiting for 6.5 to be released.

there is a 3.5 but not as a panel. which makes the Korean panel out of date already so dont know why people are complaining.

Exactly! LEAKED not OFFICIAL, I am not downloading many, many, many cabs on my X1 to make it slow just to do what the X2 does.
I want OFFICIAL UPDATES via SEUS just like KOREA, if they have something I want it to.
(damn I sound like a spoilt child)
I want it now wwwwwaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh wwwwwwaaaaaahhhhh!
the have done 2 firmware updates and there may be one more to come.
You still believe that, Ganondolf? And please...the software updates were minor bug fixes. Still no fast panels. And why the hell should we not get 6.5 when the X1 can run it perfectly.
Maybe the korean people get 6.5 Thanks for the nice thread opening post @clubx1
I don't care who gets the sruff as long as someone does lol. Don't hate the Koreans, hate SE. i really do not care who gets what. The important thing is that we would get it sooner or later as well, thanks to XDA .

i dont care if they dont bring out a r4 update as my x1 runs fast and smooth. SE have already said that there will be new panels for the x1 (dont expect the tileware panel). so what if the x1 can run 6.5, u expect SE to pay and give u it free because u want to be a cheap scape. if u want 6.5 buy a 6.5 phone.
and dont give me the i dont want a x2 because it has the same cpu and ram moaning. sony and i dont care. buy a x2 or buy a different make 6.5 phone or keep your x1 but PLEASE STOP CRYING AND MOANING LIKE CHILDREN.

Frakking true!
Im glad we are all sharing our opinions.
@ Ganondolf
I disagree with you on this case, the car example was horrible, im not asking for an x2 im asking for an OS. I dont understand why SE or HTC for that matter cant give 6.5 to devices that can handle it. Like i mentioned we have great cooks here and their roms are nearly perfect. What upsets me and many others is, if these guys can do it for free( or a beer ) and make an excellent ROM, why isn't SE doing anything for us? End of the day its a matter of principle, you cant treat you customers like s***t and expect them to buy your goods, and be happy with you. I wanted to buy either the X2 or the X3 but after seeing how they treat customers and their updates ( lack of), i don't think i want to anymore.
@ everybody else
thanks for the discussion, keep it going, the more opinions the better understanding we have of how the community feels about the issue.
P.S the Korea comment was satirical, since they seem to get the latest stuff i thought id throw it out there.
"i dont care if they dont bring out a r4 update as my x1 runs fast and smooth. Well, it runs fast and smooth. But for me panels are too slow, there could be more panels. Videos have to be converted before you can watch them on your X1. All those things annoy me.
Of course I will buy a 6.5 phone - that's absolutely not the point!
But to consider buying a SE again I want 6.5 as an update. This phone is an "experiment" like they said and I don't want to be treated like that. I will subscribe every attempt to get another update since I paid so much for that freakin phone.
If you think we are winer, fine, no one forces you guys to follow the thread. Just go to youtube and watch some videos instead of wasting your time here...

Do you know how the market (and the whole world) functions? If you need something, you have to pay for ot. If companies start giving stuff for free - what's the point of their existense? They shuld rename themselves "charities" or go bankrupt.
When you bought the X1, you got a phone (hardware) and an OS (software). Why would anyone give one of those things to you for free? Why should you get something, that you haven't paid for? It's another OS, not just a bug fix update.
Seriously, use your brain.

Perhaps? Perhaps what? Do you think SE got WinMo out of thin air?
About the paying for an official upgrade.
This is something entirely different and you can make a "are you willing to pay for a 6.5 upgrade" thread. Whining about not getting stuff for free and paying for the upgrade are completely different.
i somehow agree about the update to 6.5 - it's not a free one from microsoft, so SE would have to buy a second license for each phone...
but orelsi, do you think we got our money's worth back with the x1 in the first place? obviously SE did everything they should have done for the x1 for the x2 with 6.5, and they started doing that half a year ago. (THAT'S what i'm complaining about, i can see on my x1 now what would have been possible with this hardware!!! but not officially.)
don't forget, that's the other side of how the market/world works: it's a buyer's market. but obviously SE isn't interested in a good reputation as a smartphone-seller. but so what, not my problem.
Hi All,
I'm a big HTC fan and have had HTC phones for the last couple of years. At the moment i have the HTC Hero (awesome phone, best HTC imo (overall)).
But i'm due an upgrade and was thinking of purchasing the HD2. I've had the Touch HD and i was very very dissapointed with its lagging.
Do you think it's worth going for the HD2? Is there any lag at all? whats the marketplace like? any decent games? Ive searched and still cant make up my mind due to amount of positives and negatives people have experienced.
Or shall i back off for a few months and go for the X10 or HTC Bravo?
thanks in advance

I think the most sensible thing to do, since you have reasonable doubts, is to try and get a play on one. I know most stores are a bit "HDwhat?" at the minute, but I think you'll forget your doubts once you play. Just don't expect to type like a touch-typist within the first minute and you'll be okay
Maybe it's worth getting one on contract so you can return within their allowed time, if you don't like it?
i'm thinking of getting a HD on contract, test it out for two weeks.

I'll be honestly suprised if you send it back, but we're all different, aren't we! Personally, I can't see myself getting rid of this until something REALLY good comes out. (As long as I can upgrade to WM7 next year, and let's face it, with XDA we know we can do that )
I hope so. I dont want to be badly let down like the previous HD.

haha, i pay always.
I've found some decent games in the MarketPlace, and it's handy for getting free utilities too, like the facebook and myspace apps etc.. That way, when you've flashed your ROM, you just go to MarketPlace and do "install all". Nice feature!
Oh yeah - Slider. THE best game ever! I love it!

It's not that busy yet, but there's been a promising increase in the number off apps on there since it started. You've gotta bear in mind that it's still relatively new. Between XDA, Google & the MarketPlace, I find everything I want (usually).
thanks for this,

I'm afraid there isn't a definite answer on this yet. Personally, I suspect it will just work, as the hardware is there for the new software features, so the new APIs in WM7 should work with no problem. BUT, you can never be sure. Microsoft have obviously made no comment on this matter, so it's just conjecture at the minute.
I'll be suprised if it doesn't work with no (major or unfixable) problems, but we'll realistically have to wait till there's a ROM available to play with.

I've gone from the HD to the HD2. I've now got WM6.5 running on the old HD and it's a bit slow but I've always found the HD2 pretty fast. The only problems I've found is that the lack of stylus stops certain programs from working properly for example it's impossible to play scrabble unless you spend 10 minutes trying to place the tiles correctly! and I can't get bluetooth to divert all audio. Other than those points I'm VERY happy with the HD2. I highly recommend slideit keyboard it's simply superb on the HD2.
Hello Guys,

There is no and probably never will be a WM rom for the Wildfire. The wildfire isn't successfully rooted (A review version was but it doesn't work on retail) so flashing is currently impossible so I don't think you can unbrand it for now.
I do know Paul from MoDaCo is trying to root it but we will see how that goes.
Why would you want that? i am just curious.
I like to have it, because all my other phones are with windows mobile.
There are many more programs for wm smartphones...
But the next problem is, that in Germany all wildfires are sold out... it's very anoying.
I've searched for a good thread with android apps - but i didn't find one...
Does it have as much applications as for windows mobile?

I do not know how much the applications for Windows mobile has grown in the last year but I used to have WM 6.1 on my HTC Kaiser.
I find more (free and paying) applications in the android market then I found for WM.
Take a look at appbrain . com
@ s3ri0z:
i dont think so, that all the wildfires are sold out in germany. why i get one today in my vodafoneshop???
it is unpossible to flash a winmob rom to your wildfire. did you tried to run android on a windows mobile phone? its difficult to develop it and so to run it on an winmob device.
and than, the android only starts in windows. it doesnt replace it.
on android you wount get something like that.
Hey s3ri0z,
I'm German myself, so please write me a PM, if there are some problems with the understanding. I'll answer you in German then.
To your questions:
- There exist 100.000+ apps in the Android Market. This is way more then you can get for WM. I have to admit, that if you count all WM-apps together you might find more apps for WM. But most of the WM-apps are old. Lots of those were designed for WM 5, WM 6.1, etc. The only useful WM-apps are those for WM 6.5 and may be WM 6.1, but since Microsoft will launch Windows Phone 7 in a couple month, WM is kind of dying.
My phone is an HTC HD2 and this way I'm using WM-apps for a long time. With the possibilities of an Linux kernel, which was released by the dev's here in this forum, I'm now testing Froyo on my HD2. To be honest, I think Android is the future. It is in many ways better. It's faster, supports flash in the browser and has a huge development community.
- You can get a Wildfire at at least three online stores from now to tomorrow. Try idealo.de or other "Preissuchmaschinen", you'll find a vendor.
- The only thing, which really is a plus for Windows Mobile is the Sync. I don't wan't to share my private data with google. But even there is a solution. Look for companionlink.com and check the USB-version. That should solve all those problems.
Hello guys,
thanks for so many answers.
I looked an a lot of websites with android apps.
There are really many freeware apps - so it's ok to have an android smartphone...
I searched at idealo.com for the wildfire and bought 3 pieces at es-mobilfunk de.
At the shop the delivery date was 3 to 7 days.
After 3 days I asked for the delivery date --> they said it's sold out and I have to wait for an indefinite period... it's very annoying!
Hi there!
- WM has more apps - true. But it got near to 500.000 (for example) apps in nearly 10 years. Android got near to 100.000 apps in nearly 2 year. That means android grows and gets apps faster So why anyone would want wm on his Wildfire? I only missed TCPMP and Worms from wm.
All of the Wildfires isn't sold in Germany or I bought the last one

lol, fail comparison. End up the same amount/year in your case.
But, your point's right
Windows Mobile have around 50k working apps atm. and have been around for like 6 years or so. Android have been around for over 1 year know, lately the apps have grown like ****. It'll probably beet Appstore pretty soon.
But hey! Apps is not all, Android is the (according to me) best system around.
From what I seen of the wildfire in the 3 hours I have had mine it really would not do well with the new windows mobile heavy handed core, the phone is nice as it is and really does not need WM killing the poor thing

i completely agree. had wm devices since 2003 (tomtom was the killer app) but now wm is dying, wp7 will not change this, since as far as i heard it is not backward compatibility at all. this was my reason to go for the wildfire, and i have to say i really like this phone.

Yeah... Android has many apps. Maybe not as much as WM but still growing. In Poland all HTCs were sold out as well :/ but 2 days ago I managed to snatch one
Cheers,

Ever looked in Window Marketplace??? There is not much to download...
I also was using Windows Mobile 6.5 and now owner of the HTC Wildfire, honestly, i never want to go back to Windows Mobile! Android is so easy to use and much faster than (for example) WM on a Touch2...
What ever you need can be sownloaded on the Marketplace, and the best thing is...for free!
Dave
Never try torturing yourself. I've just escape from this hell
I used a Touch2 in a electronic market and i felt like riding a turtle after I used my lovely Wildfire. So WM sucks. I only missed the TCPMP and Worms but soon we'll get them
can i have a dual boot with windows and android in the HTC Wildfire ??? and heard that some applets arent supported due to less resolution of the screen… is that true ?? is that a major setback as far as Android market is concerned ??? and anyone tried FROYO on wildfire ???

1. No
2.Sorta, Some apps don't show in the market but you can still download them.
3. Froyo is going to be released sooner or later(Within 2 weeks the rumor goes).
I don't understand why anyone would want to use Windows Mobile over the Android OS. As point of princible to prove you can get Windows Mobile on your phone is one thing... To use it as your phone's main OS is another IMO.
